Share

Health deputy minister Dr Lwipa Puma says government has released K10.1 billion for the supply of drugs to health institutions throughout the country.

And Dr Puma says government will construct 40 health posts throughout the country at
a cost of K19 billion.

Government will also recruit 1,900 health workers in an effort to beef up the current shortage of trained manpower in health institutions in the country.

Dr Puma disclosed this  in Solwezi when he addressed health workers during his
conducted tour of North-Western province to check on health care delivery in the
province.

Dr Puma disclosed that government has contracted seven local and four international
companies to manufacture drugs among them the life-prolonging ARVs.

He noted that 27,200 drug kits will be ordered in the country in a bid to mitigate
the shortages of drugs in health institutions.

And Dr Puma has challenged health workers to go for HIV/AIDS testing to know their
status.

Dr Puma explained that those who test positive would be put on medication so that
they continue with there normal life and work.

  1. This what people in Zambia need is proper health care. Some people nowadays are scared to go to die in the clinics and hospitals due to lack of drugs and equipment. We hope that once the drugs are procured, they will not find themselves in the shelves of illegal drug store and ntembas.

  2. As positive as that may sound nothing from politicians is reassuring these days. Dr Lwipa as former director in charge of service delivery knows how bad the procurement system in in Zambia. The lag between release of funds and life-saving drugs reaching Lusuntha health post, Lundazi is 12-14 months. Somebody has got to do something about this problem.
