  1. Mbeki to contest ANC position
South African President, Thabo Mbeki has opened the door to serving another term as leader of the African National Congress (ANC) after elections this year.

This puts him in a strong position to influence the ANC’s choice as candidate for national elections in 2009, when he is to stand down as president.

Mr. Mbeki said it would be disrespectful to ignore the party leadership, if they asked him to stay on.

The question of who should succeed Mr. Mbeki has been dividing the ANC.

The ANC candidate would be the overwhelming favourite to win national elections due in 2009.

It is due to choose its leader in December, with deputy party president, Jacob Zuma and tycoon, Tokyo Sexwale seen as front-runners to succeed Mr. Mbeki if he does not stand again.

  2. Ekweba ati bali mujuba no tumuti? Ninshi talandileko na Gadaffi ngalimusova ko tu panadol twa malaria iyi yaisa.

  3. Do you guys see that Thabo Mbeki is trying to follow FTJ’s third term nonesence. What is wrong with african leaders? Why cant they just step down peacefully.

  4. SAGE, much as we would want to debate Mbeki’s third term bid, typical of selfish African Leaders who think they are small gods, this is a wrong forum. Ask Lusakatimes.com to open a new forum for that. Cominig to VJ being rushed to RSA, who is footing the bill? If it is the taxpayer this will be gross abuse of taxpayer,s resources. If,on the other hand, the Mwanga family is paying, I have no problem with that. This said, the government must improve health service deliver in the country. While rich politician can be ‘ruched’ to RSA and LPM can go to London, it is the common man and woman who are left in the limbo.

  5. Ba SAGE please help. Why did they take VJ for the coury to rule,if it was in the line with government to use taxpayers money, since he is out of government.I hope all the chiefs when they get sick ZAF will there to fly them to Lusaka and theN Zambian airways to fly them to South Africa on LPM taxpyers money. It is a leason to Mulongoti and others to stop taking other to court when there sick. Veron Mwamba/ Mwanga get well soon .We still need you to help the MMD in 2011.

  7. UNZA the governments policy on who goes to Morningside is very clear. any citizen qualifies to be evacuated to the south. But as we all know who you know that is what matters at the end of the day. Even John Solye ubwali (common un employed ) Zambians qualify for treatment abroad. The one million doller question is why spend more tha $10M dollars a year on evacutions yet in the same breth if GRZ spent Just half of the money they spend on evacuations. UTH would be at par with morningside clinic. for your information i worked both at UTH and morningside clinic before coming to the US. This topic hits the nerve because in whatever aspect you at Zambia from , You see ineptitude and mere lack of visionary leaders. I have said and i will say it again. Zambias problem is not luck of money, but lack of leadership.

  8. what has happened 2 v.j?i am in the dark is the stress catching up with him.resign from politics and explain to the zambians what is eating you up.
quick re`covery anyway.just hope you wont be treated like ftj

  9. Chandafkaunda – USA,
What makes this service to VJ a gross abuse of taxpayers’ resources? Educate us on that one maybe am missing something here. Emmanuel Kasonde, Mainza Chona, Betty Kaunda, Daniel Kapapa, Anderson Mazoka, Paramount Chief Mpezeni, late Chitimukulu, many private and public duty VIPs have been evacuated on emergency at GRZ expense. So what has been wrong with that ba Chandafkaunda – USA? VJ is a veteran politician, a seasoned senior public service officer, and senior citizen that has done even more than those cared for. His marks are there for history to appreciate. In the cold war, VJ served this nation well in foreign missions from Russia, UK, USA to the UN as Permanent Representative. At home he founded this country the Vanguard of national peace and security the current Red brick as its Permanent secretary and Director General. Headed the Times of Zambia and Print Park before serving in different ministerial portfolios. That said, doesn’t he surely deserve Government care in his needy times? Comparatively hasn’t VJ done more than most of those cited here for this nation? Unless you qualify your statement, I will take you as being too petty and sadist without History or facts.

  10. Paparazzi, while any Zambian citizen has a ‘right’ to be taken for treatment to any country, it must be after recommendations from UTH, and only if such treatment is not available in the country. What seem to be happening in Zambia is that politicians are rushed to RSA by family members, from their own judgement and then the Government, in its wisdom decide to foot the bill. From you list, it appears one has to be prominent or a politician to receive such attention from the Government. I know of ordinary Zambians who were recommended to receive specialist treatment abroad by UTH but the government played deaf. As Sage, # 9, pointed out if there is a politcal will on the part of the politicians or is it government, UTH can be improved to a level where we will not be spending colossal sums of money on foreign treatment. During KK era, it was not common for politicial not even the President to rush to RSA. In fact, there were alot of foreign nationals who sought treatment from UTH.

  11. Paparazzi, just because the system was abused un the past should not be an excuse for continuation of the vice. Sanity should begin to take root in Zambia. Why spend millions of Dollars on treating Zambians abroad when such monies can be put to improve health institutions in the country and bring them at par with those in South Africa. That is the only answer!

  12. #12 Chanda Francis Kaunda Jr, your points are valid but the person you are talking to (#10 Paparazzi) ni shushu wakwa LPM.To him common nonsense can tag pipo prices, selection who to go pa south or UK clinic for stroke or “chipuputu”. We have good doctors in Zed (except one man Dr HK)but we need equiptment especially in major Hospitals like UTH, Ndola, Kitwe etc te. Nomba ngatwakwata ama-equiptment nishi indukis will be saved nama evacuations te? I think #10 Paparazzi alandosa coke.

  13. #12 Chandafkaunda….I wish to support what you`ve just pointed out.I used to work at the top three hospitals in SouthAfrica. It was embarasing whenever we recieved top Zambian govt officials. We had Zambians working in all departments of the hospital namely,Lab,Phamacy,Radiology,Physiology and ICU or General wards(Nurses) taking care of these VIP`S at great expense in a foreign land.I totally applaud Prof.Mubanga Kashoki who at a time when he had brain tumor wasn`t for the idea of being evacuated at great govt expense. He insisted on the govt.buying the equipment needed for his operation and because of his influence the govt did that and now many other Zambians can benefit from that. Why can`t we just start doing the right thing and move our country forward.

  14. PAPARAZI, remove Mazoka on the list. He paid his own bills and it is on record that his medicals where paid using his BUPA medical insurance. No govt money was spent treating Mazoka period.

  15. Ba Joze, I already told you, your Kabbululu Kafupi fired me/us from Zed hospital for demanding that the hospital conditions be improved for betterment of our patient. only stupid Doctors would sympathize with criminals like Kafupi and those four bandits who were shot. Every doctor has his/her own calling. Mine is certainly not for crooks and conmen..

  16. Ba Joze 14# so you are back I missed. In Zambia we have a problem of outsocurcing everything is coming from outside. Remember you sold all the shops and you build Acades, Manda Hill which is south Africaá. Zambia Beweries you sold it to including the patent. So the circus continues. What have to know in the world economics this called economics growth exactly this sending patients abroad contributes to the grow that particular nation. As much as the lives of our politicians or lets say bapamwamba more important is so are lives of the many Zambians. All what we need to do to rethink and start rebuilding our national health sector before it colapses as if we have a civil war. Taking VJ south africa in person is not wrong when it comes to save life but the we should ask ourselves was the govt or who ever did that, he going to do it to an ordinary citizens if she or he was to sick from the same problem that has befallen VJ. We need to answer this question. I know the LPM govt has taken…

  17. #14 BaJose bushe ‘BIG’malaria nayo ku micita rush ku morning side? #3 Chapi naipusha? chituwo alishita ama ARV’s yaba contaminated with sewage water, kanshi yena malaria yaba politician kubutukila pa south?Iya BaJoze kumitwala ku E21? According to RUFQUA page 6 sub sect II says’Let us improve the medical deliverance in Zambia, its a right for every Zambian to be accorded better medical facilities irrespective of position, class, creed or race.No wonder Dr Simon Miti is always shielded from scud missiles fired by Anna Chifungulo, its issues like this which he uses to hold some clever click by ransom. We need to correct this perception #11 is alluding to.

  18. ctd.. normal cities for foreign treatment as far as India which is good gesture. The question is are we going to afford it in the long run. I think applying Management principles by our economists like Make of buy should start to apply. MBOs is a very good instrument of our govt and Zambia companies should start using to determine case. If we outsource everything the all the effort of empowerment of citizens will be useless. Zambia need second strategy.

  19. #17 wabwela,I was looking for you to contribute on the medical blog ‘UTH Dirty tricks’ your friends expounded including one experienced nurse , iwe kano fye ukupontela ba FTJ? Today I want you to educate us on ‘WHY IS HOMOSEXUALITY RIFE AMONGST WHITE PEOPLE’?what part of the brain is in reverse, iwe chi DR HK?Go into this research you will be a prof not lyonse you keep crying ati FTJ fired you, move on man, your ineptitude caused all those problems to you.

  20. Kuku 21# this doc dont listen how many times are going to invite him to contribute his kanongobilities to the far much touching topics. Tell him to sit like Leo not like Jumbo.

  21. Chandafkaunda – USA, all your explanations have not addressed the earlier assertion you made that evacuating VJ to SA is a gross abuse of taxpayers’ resources. It is of public knowledge that VJ has been unwell since the Mazoka funeral fiasco on national duty as President’s emissary to the Mazokas on that sad loss. The better informed public is aware that Mr Mwaanga has been seeing many specialized Doctors locally including eye surgeons at home and abroad. Have you made sufficient investigations at home on what has resulted into the decision to evacuate him? Facts are there for all to see. To say that in the past Zambians, public status aside never sort specialized treatment overseas is dangerously gross ignorance inhumane to propel in such a public domain with patrons better vested in the history of this country from diverse national roles. Unless you are just beginning to discover yourself with the history of Zambia, I take you as another Sadist with a lot of challenges to be useful in public life. Yes the reforms of the 90s have carried on the failures of the 80s in the Health sector, but that does not mean the Government denies its citizens specialized medical care where need arise. If you say that is gross abuse of public resources in VJ’s situation, then you are a Sadist period with whom I will have difficult to help attain the acceptable rational judgment level.

  22. Kuku, the statistics indicate that, there is an even distribution of homosexual in all races. The difference is how each race handles these perverts. The Whites seem to find it easy to come out of the closet and never to suffer homophobic attacks from society. The simple fact is that Whites are advanced socially than Blacks in this world therefore find it easy to express themselves including being Gay.

  23. #17 Dr HK, ngawali hard working doctor ngabalikucita reinstate the way they did to others. Even in football ka-player uwaciba ukukukunika icipa (ball) ba FAZ balamupata nangula apota te? Nomba imwe ba Dr HK from Balgaria mwapota no hesitation to show you red card. So, you are still mourning? Be a man ba Dr HK.
#18 mwaice Easy, thanks for soccer commentaries and dont worry but that Lunatic chap who smoked 1kg of dagga. We need more of that next time Zed plays.
#19 Kuku, thanks for being my customer wa tea pa iterz, Stuffnurse Astrida Tembo told me that “penze ba m’dala wapala banangula 6 cups ya tea, banakamba ati bankala ku Masala” I hope kuku ni tea wakole te?
RUFQUA page 6 sub sect II on BIG malawi symptoms is a shear waste of money kucita evacuation patient pa south.

  24. HK (16),
Go to ministry of Health registry and come back with comprehensive facts instead of advancing piecemeal records. On 2 to 3 times of the many occasions Andy went to South, we all know that Mazoka’s chattered flights were 100% paid for by GRZ. The return of his body from SA was also 100% GRZ paid including much of the expenses at his funeral at the family request. So what are you talking about in your remarks to Paparazzi’s listing? Not all of us are that ignorant on public affairs. The ministry of Health, Cabinet office and Auditor General’s offices has data on all such expenses made.

  25. Ka Easy.. What is so intellectual about VJ being evacuated to RSA hospital. I have real forums where I write and contribute to the medical field and humanity in genaral. If you are so smart as you claim. What do you know about life after death without quoting from the bible? Are you able to think beyond your limit??????

  26. #28 Dr HK, I think you skipped some educational levels in your life te? Your level of thinking is too low to be on this blog. Just go and increase stastical figures on abortion

  27. Kabaso, stick to what you know best cleaning test tubes. It is an open book that, On many occasion Andy refused Govt medical assistance. BUPA medical insurance includes evacuation for your information.

  28. #25 I want to know what causes that , is it in the brain or genes? Imagine that happening in Mungule, how can you treat such aboring act? You mean there is medicine to counter such feelings? Why has research neglected this area?Iam sure a remedy can be found? BaJoze your Tea room is advanced, that is what we want as local entrepreneurs, being in competition with those characters at manda hill, even the Irish ambassodor was there , she couldnt resist the aroma of Kawambwa Tea,and Munali coffee, your nurse Astrida is fantastic, I hope she is insured against abuse by people like Dr HK and paparazzi,She told me that you helped her with a loan to buy a personal to holder but on top of that you pay her mileage allowance, you are a brilliant employer, well done.but extend this facility to that brilliant watchman from Chipata-Muzakondwela Monse Banda

  29. #24 Paparazzi…Are you in support of these evacuations or not? You seem to be all over the map without making your position known.

  30. #28 Joze, I live in a civilized society which consider abortion as right of a woman. Therefore I am too civilized to condemn it holistically. Direct your energy to those scums who impregnate school girls, peoples wives and relatives who seek an abortion as a solution.
By the way, Research benefit a lot on these unwanted pregnancies.

  31. Dr.HK I hope this short sentences answers your question ” The only thing we can do is accept that death is only an interchange station between the two worlds” Scientfically proved no religous fanastism.

  32. This is a wrong doc 33# Dr. HK abortion should not be encouraged unless it carries health risks of an individuals. Ba Doc which medicine studies are bringing here. You are pipo who are promoting responsibilty and adoption among people.

  33. This is a wrong doc 33# Dr. HK, abortion should not be encouraged unless it carries health risks of an individuals. Ba Doc which medicine studies are bringing here. You are pipo who are promoting irresponsibilty and adoption among people.

  34. #33 Dr HK, you murderer, uncivilized, nasty with dirty hands to touch Holy and innocent patients. You are not different from Lucifer. The Book of RUFQUA page 7639 states that ” let people say what you are NOT your self” Therefore, I dont note any civility in you apart from being silly.

  35. Easy, thanks for an answer, though I would not limit it to two worlds…
If everyone was thinking like Joze, this world would have been a terrible place to live in. I compare Joze to the ERA of Galileo Galileo. Joze don’t celebrate yet, You are not Galileo in his era, You are the one who killed him.

  36. Ba Doc HK please can you just tell us how we can tacle the problems that emanenting the Zambia health sector instead of a bring arbotin rubbish. If your mother did abortion I believe you were not going to be on this blog. Be noble Doctor your civilised is a misleading.

  37. HK # 30,
I have been very clear and respectful for the dead: You go to the three institutions given in my previous post-MH,Cabinet office and AG office.Check through their records and then come back here with facts.Incase you are too ignorant i have all the data including the services of Mazoka’s emissary to Boma on this matter and beyond.

  38. Dr. HK thank you but I leave Ba Joze to answer you because I here to say knowledge and learn from us actually I have no time to attack others only if Iam attacked I do res´pond.

  39. #41, Kabaso, Respect or no respect, truth is better than respect. And We know you were not born to tell the truth by your environmental mutation. Don’t come here and claim to have privileged information which is non there. Emissary!!!!!, we know all that on state funeral publication..Zero information transmitted.

  40. Chapi (32),
I do not pride in evacuations but endorse them where prevealing situations prove critical and urgent to be handled locally. To that is the vulnerability of the patient at the hands of some politically contaminated medical personnel who often finish up their perceived political enemies. When American Ronald Regan was rashed to the Hospital following an assassination attempt, in his operation room he asked if all in the room and working on him were Republicans. If you are sincere enough, you should understand what he meant and why it makes sense to fly VJ to SA. Besides that, VJ is a veteran Service man of Greater national value to the existence of this country from time in memorial following preceding our independence struggles. He has this country on his finger tips.

    Ba HK (43),
Do your homework right.Andy’s chartered evacuation flights were state paid on 2 occasions including his body. Its wrong to go deep in these matters now that he is no more.Records are there for all.

  41. Paparazzi..The issue is why spend tax payers money improving morningside where 99.9% of the taxpayers will never go for treatment.instead of making a deliberate policy to invest in equipment and human capital in order to improve the situation in our medical services delivery. Governments worldwide have no capacity to run hospitals and other services like education etc. 2 weeks ago we where talking about UNZA. when you critically look at these issues the problem is the same. The common denominator is GRZ. In USA when you go to government hospital, it can take you more than 6 hrs to see a doctor. The service is as pathetic as in a third world country. But they have mitigated the situation by creating a government and private medical scheme where people who are insured can go to private hospitals and get the services they desreve. Here is the solution
We should pass a law forcing employers to provide medical insurance for their employees. GRZ should also pay medical insurance for its..

  42. As usual, the blog is lively! One day Zambia will actually be run by people of vision and compassion. Until then, the value of a Zambia’s life will be measured by how many government jobs he or she has held, not to mention how rich they have become at the tax payer’s expense. It is a sad indictment of what has become of what was once a good country to live in. The lunatics have taken over the asylum! #1 SAGE, I know this is not the right forum for your question, but there is no limit on the number of terms one can serve as ANC leader – remember Oliver Tambo. However, there is a limit on the number of terms one can serve as RSA president. Mbeki is not seeking a third term as republican president. The president of the ANC is not necessarily also its candidate for republican presidential elections. Mbeki can remain as ANC president, but the party will also need to pick someone else to stand as candidate for republican presidential elections.

  43. It`s so unfortunate that you`re able to view this using political lenses and needless to point out that it doesn`t hold any water.Your reasoning shutters any intellect because for you, anything that the MMD does irrespective of it being wrong, you seem to always find a reason to support that.Don`t you think that it`s about time you became principled and only went for something that`s right and moral.Kindly read my comments on #15.

  44. #45PAPARAZZI….It`s so unfortunate that you`re able to view this using political lenses and needless to point out that it doesn`t hold any water.Your reasoning shutters any intellect because for you, anything that the MMD does irrespective of it being wrong, you seem to always find a reason to support that.Don`t you think that it`s about time you became principled and only went for something that`s right and moral.Kindly read my comments on #15.

  45. employess. Parliament should also pass a law to create a medical insurance scheme which should pay medical insurance for adults over 65 years, the poor and kids below the age of 5 who have poor parents.Once you do that the cost of medical treatment will be borne by the insurance campanies (private sector) This will pave way for the proliferation of quality hospitals. and GRZ can concntrate on funding UTH which should also charge for the insurance companies for the treatment of insured members

  46. Why cant our Govt buy the medical eqiupments used to treat our people for what ever treatments they go for at the famous Morningside clinc.I fail to understand why we can not just make that wise move.there is a lot to be gained i dont need to spell it one by one we all know and the govt knows too.

  47. Simple fact of the matter: Zambia’s health system is so impoverished that we rely on Global Fund, PEPFAR and others to provide basic services. We spend $22-25 per person per year on health(including private companies). Tell me what kind of care that can give us.
Here’s the main question we need to solve: Buy the most health care you can from available public funds and treat everybody the same. With the option for those who want more to pay from own pockets.

Legislating company medical insurance is increasing costs for companies and they will resist it. Some are already doing it though.

  48. #52.That`s exactly what the govt needs to do.Buy the equipment and carry out the procedures locally. We`ve got qualified medical personel to handle the type procedures that are done in SouthAfrica. It sets us back when we have the Head of State flown out to UK just to monitor his blood pressure(BP).Sage is right about instituting medical insurance network were everyone who`s in formal employment must be covered. Our minds should focus on revamping the health sector.

  49. SAGE50# Why discrimination? Health Insurance should be for all. What we need is social capitalism system in health. Govt should create an Insurance scheme if want a concept now I can give them. They just ask me how to it. I have best solutions on health dont want to wait until 2011 we can start now. Sage we need insurance for everyone not like in USA. You pipo are not sick everyday. Private Insurance is not for Zambia as at now. This business it will reduce patients to products. This should not happen. Protection of citizens ´should be priority. I have a vision of a better Zambia after 2011. I hope by then the new constitution will be effect.

  50. The basic problem is inequitable access to health servies, where a few people have it and others dont. I cant see how employer based or private medical insurance is going to solve that problem. Health insurance for all needs money–double what we spend. So need to decide where the money comes from?

  51. SAGE….,brilliant idea’s,but Bro in Africa we have a different culture where we believe the govt is there to provide everything.
The culture in us has been of having most things on a silver plate, all these things were in place when the country was getting independence, but when our leaders mismanage our wealth and other stakeholders intervene other people confuse it with colonialism and imperialism.
To add on what you’ve mentioned,
Firstly, our tax base in the country is very minimal, and the spread of wealth is not even, therefore we have to increase it’s base, improve the tax collection system and improve the services of personnel and invest in equipment at the health institution’s.
Then shall we see an improvement in the revenue’s.
What happened to the medical scheme’s Sata introduced?
Lastly,we should create independent trust’s and boards for each hospital so as each can run on it’s own budget than await govt funding.

  52. Francis.. There is power in numbers. If the government had to say today they sale all the medical facilities to private sector and create an insurance scheme to insure the poor and un employed. everyone would get a better service and GRZ would save more than 70%. You see this is how it works. it would cost GRZ maybe $10.00 a months per insured person. The cost of treating someone with malaria maybe $250.00. But all patients dont fall sick at the same time. You look at healthy individuals between the ages of 16 and 50 fall sick maybe once every 5 years. So the insurance company will be happy with a guaranteed income of $5.00 a month. In this case GRZ will have no nurses and doctors to pay and retire. The cost of maintaing doctors and nurses itself can pay for all Zambians medical insurance. The new owners of the hospitals will compete for customers, hence excellent service delivery. The hospitals will buy equipment and employ dictors. This the way forward. forget communism.

  53. SAGE (46),
Refer to my earlier post where said i don’t pride in these evacuations but endorse them where the situation has proved critically necessary. There is no morality in lining up lives locally when experts advise that failure would empirically lead to loss of life. We cannot deny the fact that the existing health systems since the 80s through the era of economic reforms aside have been disastrous in General. Remedial moves are producing many privately run Hospitals across the country including Medical Lab Research centers. Hardly 2 months ago a friend of mine opened up a strategically necessary Research lab in Lusaka for the first time which will henceforth handle all the specimen previously sent to SA by hospitals. That is a positive Development I encourage. I have a lot of practicing health professional friends in Canada, Australia, the USA, the emirates and Botswana in the health industry busy making serious moves to run their own facilities in Zambia. That said, I don’t hold opposing views to your views that a diverse and efficient medical insurance system would enhance the capacity of Health institutions service delivery private or otherwise. If anything, that is where things are heading to right now considering the schemes Government has been fostering on its employees and those in parastals. But cannot deny the fact that like in Developed nations, welfare economics will remain the obligation of present and future Governments. Economic disparities of “the halve and have notes” will always be there come what may. But realize that reforms of Government take long. Governments are not like corporations. Look at the USA Government level of bureaucracy as regards FEMA services and their Government run Hospitals including the Military Hospital laden with rodents.

  54. Anyone who has studied geography Geology, Mineralogy its knows what pass or gap is. This word widely used in businss to explain a situation describes discovery of a market. RSA´s morningside clinic just did these they discovered this gap in southern Africa, Zambia is just one of the customers. The clinic is not government owned but its private. The services are good and its clean you recieve maximum attention and good treatment ask FTJ he will tell you.Its time we send students and study there meanwhile we start looking for money to buy the equipment. Are they paying our plunderers. We need our money Chungu, look at the way pipo are suffering. Just come back and pay Zambians are go they will forgive you.

  55. Morningside Medi-Clinic is a 230-bed private hospital, located in South Africa’s economic hub of Sandton and has, over the years, received many local and international patients. A prominent group of medical specialists complements the excellent facilities and professional nursing staff offered by the hospital.Morningside Medi-Clinic is one of the hospitals in the Medi-Clinic group of private hospitals. Medi-Clinic is one of the largest private hospitals groups in Africa and currently owns over 40 private hospitals throughout South Africa and Namibia.
Morningside Medi-Clinic offers local, national and international patients a broad spectrum of professional medical services, including:
Professional consultations by highly qualified medical specialists in a wide range of medical disciplines within well-equipped consulting rooms
Quality medical care in comfortable wards staffed by highly trained, professional and compassionate nursing, medical and other personnel
    Well-equipp….

  56. ctd..Well-equipped operating theatres staffed by highly trained and professional nursing, medical and other personnel
Excellent visitor accommodation is available in the form of hotels, guest lodges and bed and breakfast establishments in the area.

Continually striving to improve on its well-established reputation for affordable, specialised, professional health care in an environment of caring commitment, Morningside Medi-Clinic remains true to the Medi-Clinic group’s motto of being committed to quality care

Why cant the government ask even this clinic to open a branch in Zambia. We can cut flight costs and boarding and lodging.

  57. Here is the email of the clinic the Dean of UNZA must start now attaching students for pratical learn at this clinic. No time to waste we need to save lives. Tomorrow never comes. SAGE is that right or Iam just dreaming we dont have people who can implement these good ideas.

  58. EASY whats your point ? Chapi and myself we used to work at morningside clinic. Stop educating us on how equiped or first class facility morningside is. We are looking for solutions to bring Zambias medical system to standards.

  59. Paparazzi you really sound like a shushushu. My first point on the blog was to say even in the first world government run hospitals or institutions in general are run just as badly as the third word hospitals. But these countries have accepted that the government has no capacity to run hospitals. as a result they run less than 1% of hospitals. Our problem is GRZ is incompetent just like any other government yet they still want to hold on to running service delivery to people because thats how they steal.

  60. Okay SAGE. The govt spends $13 PER YEAR, thats one dollar per month. That spells a recipe for bankruptcy for an insurance company even using your implausibly low assumptions on illness prevalence in the population.
    I think,
    a) Every child between 0-7 years needs medical attention for an illness twice a year (figure much higher among the poor).
    b) 10% of adults 15-59, suffer CHRONIC illnesses, so you need to factor this in,
    c) 40% of adults suffer one acute illness a year
    d) 30% of 65+ suffer chronic illnesses

As you say using the US, private health turns out most expensive!

  61. Francis .. I grew up in Zambia i’m 37 yrs i while in Zambia i had malaria twice i havent seen a doctor in 15 years this includes the 5 years in Zambia and 10 years in diaspora. my figures says $10 per month not pay year. If we go into details you are talking about HIV patients. these represents less than 5% of the population and there should be a system of taking care of this group. Coming to Kids under 5. I know they need constant medical attention and reviews should should still work. Your are also forgetting that all the employed should not not be on the government insurance. I’m talking a well managed system that is accountable and looks at the private sector as a aprtner in development. We have very few people over the age og 65 in Zambia. This group shouldnt be a factor.

  62. #58 SAGE.The idea of medical health insurance is good. The other point that needs to be considered is the life expectancy in Zambia which is about 37 years. This simply means that people usually fall sick and don`t nomaly lead healthy and long lives which would definately be a huge cost to the Medical Insurance companies. What can be done though is promoting healthy lifestyles such encouraging people to exercise. This is a common strategy being employed by major Insurance companies where they give their members access to free gym membership.

  63. Hi SAGE. Was the 10 per month a premium or cost?
If you tell me you were born in an urban area especially CB (where transmission was virtually zero at the time you were born), you can live with 2 bouts of malaria from birth to 27. That’s just not the reality of many other zambians who live elsewhere. You are just not an average zambian in that regard. If you need evidence on prevalence on illness, malaria, pneumonia and other illnesses, check the demongraphic health survey even for 2002. I will be very surpised you are right, ON AVERAGE.

I didnt mean HIV illnesses actually. But the general morbidity in the population is much greater than you suggested.

My fundamental point is, in general a public system is cheaper than a private one–for the same level of spending you may have. The US is a very unique situation to compare with.

  64. 1. The US has 4 times the population of Zambia of people without access to health care. I dont think that’s the sort of system we should be advocating for Zambia.

    2. Health insurance is just a system of how you organize financing of health care, it doesnt by itself bring in new money.

Lets face the root of the crisis!

  65. #70 i grew up in Kasama.the $10 is the premium which is the cost to the government per person per month. When you look at these figures dont look at the media. like #69 Chapi is stating that the life expectancy is 37. To a man on the street this means people dont live beyond the age of 37. But the reality is more than 30% of the population is over 37 years old. When you listen to the media you would actually think more than 50% of the population has HIV. if you listen to cnn you would think everyone in african has HIV. Yesturday there was an article in the post where GRZ was saying they have a total of 115,000 peopel on ARVs. If you take a good census you will realise that less than 500,000 people have HIV in Zambia more than half of these are working and take care of themselves well. When you talk pneumonia and chronic illness, you are linking people with these conditions to HIV. Because a normal healthy person does not get pneumonia or chronic diaharea. So its managable.

  66. Sage and CHAPI this is very interesting to have you people on the blog. Can you shed more light what made you instead live Zambia when you would have brought the Morningside clinic idea to Zambia- Any thise personal but it could be useful for the bloggers here to know why we are failing to have such facilities yet this clinic is private. I did look at the Departments they have and it is a huge many they cover almost all area. On the hand to answer your question. This cleaning is the only one of this nature in Africa that means to offers services like that in countries like Germany, India, Switzerland just to mention a few. Maybe you can tell why Zambia has no such a clinic when Nambia has one.

  67. i agree with you more than 43M americans dont have life insurance. The majority of the 43M are illegal imigrants and their kids. and these are the people who flood the government hospitals. as i said thats where you line for 6 hours before you see a doctor. Your #2 point is well explained and there are more than one way to solve the medical system problem. But apparently the private medical isuanrance system seams to be a more viable system of organizing the medical system

  68. We wish Mr Mwaanga quick recovery, although i must hasten to mention that he was very rough with FTJ’s trips to South Africa. Gentlemen let us have compassion on with each another.

  69. Francis.. Chapi and myself where in the same class at Evelyn hone. we studied medical lab. and migrated to RSA shortly after graduating. By the way my names is also Francis. 10 years ago we wouldnt be talking the way we are talking. with traveling comes exposure and learning. like my favorite preacher once said ” You wouldnt change except for the places you go and the people you meet”

  70. Point taken SAGE. Just check for me, Pneumonia is NUMBER 3 killer among children in SSA, as a single clinical cause of death. Only beaten by diarrhoea and some miscellaneous neonatal conditions (cant remember ref but it was in the lancet journal).
No necessary link to HIV. Pneumonia kills more kids in Senegal than even malaria, even if their HIV prevalance is under 3%.
I agree most HIV have proved exagerrated from Uganda all the way down. Case rested. Thanks.

  71. SAGE why are runing away you brought the idea of private insurance which not applicable in Zambia. You guys you forgot easily Sata had introduced this system of paying fees in Zambia when he was Minister of health. Until WHO had to move in to help this contributed also to the colapse of the system because you cannot change from one system to another and when it fails you abondon it. In Zambia we need to build on it will take years to have an effective if we are to privatise as SAGE is saying. We only have a working force of about 500 000 workers against a population of 10 million. Chapi dont dream the parents would minus money for food if we privatise our health system. Please differential between a service and a product. A product is a tangable good and it can resale it self. Service is untangable good it has be handled like a product. Please be deverse in your studies. In the 21th century one to a man of all rounder in understanding issue.

  72. Ba Joze, bushe Sage na Easy balafola to blog on Lusakatimes? Pantu they fill about 80 percent of any topic which comes on the blog. We know mwalinwa ink, but kulekelako abanenu. Sometimes, you just argue to each other, and end up getting out of the topic. Ba Joze landenipo pali Sage na Easy with their blogging. Limbi Lusakatimes ilabacekelako.

  73. Paparazi, Kindly let pipo air their views. It seems you are one of those we used to call Kachepa. Anything that concerns the govt and MMD you defend completely. Pipo are suppose to be given the rights to express their views.Bu kamucheka inchito shilapwa when there is a change of govt. Many pipo in villages are dying due to lack of good healthcare. For you Paparazi you can see the importance of investing those $ in hosp.Anyway Paparazi continue updating us with your shushushu ops.I wish VJ a quick recovery and may he remain blessed.

  74. SAGE (66) & Chitoba (82),
Your behavior pattern to those with divergent views of the political platform comes out to be more of confirmed terrorists than any progressives in the cyberspace. I have painstakingly read all posts here including those of paparazzi’s forthright views. All in all i failed to see any elements of your fear unless you have a predetermined mindset out of some dark world experiences. It’s a known fact that terrorists are very sensitive to any voice not in the legion of those recklessly disparaging ruling parties. I am not stunned by your labor to move this blog into another level of hatred and vicious battles uncalled for which one of you antagonists might get with much easy God forbid. If anything, is it a crime for ruling party members to speak themselves out? Is it a crime to stand on what one believes in? Who commits a serious crime between he who participates in free debates and the one that belabors to endanger the life of a fellow citizen (you call Shushu whatever)? Would those who feel they are being endangered fold their hands and let such dreams get away with it? I doubt it and bet my last ngwee. Would any of you be acting wrong to enter into vicious circles and prove yourselves who would be a casualty????

  75. • Chapi (48) , • SAGE (66) & Chitoba (82),
Reading your juvenile remarks in your cited articles above, I chosen to sympathize and ignore you unless others have time to waste time on beyond this blog. You have proved dangerously ignorant, petty and sadistic without facts to substantiate any insinuation therein. Refer to my posts # 11, 24, 45 & 59. I challenge you to point out the basis of your exposed desperation. How have I inhibited the freedom of speech among pundits? What principles have I compromised that you hold forthright? There are moral and fundamental questions there in my articles of which none has been answered. What kind of moral dualists are you that only spam such a domain with paradoxies and flip flopping traits? I am a very consistent and forthright pundit free from your worthless blind Group think. I communicate with a sense of the real world and not your fantasy. Read through my articles with freedom of mind without desire for popularity in blogs.I pray you henceforth attain an acceptable level of human decency and space for divergence. This Paparazzi is a free Global citizen you are bound to lamentably fail destroying come what may. I give you the right of way to try beyond where you left yesterday. I pray my dear brother administering it in the spirit of maturity will not allow the blog to go your fantasy way or share the blame.

  77. LEVY LEADS AFRICA LEADERS IN PRAYER

    From KASUBA MULENGA in Accra
PRESIDENT Mwanawasa yesterday led other African leaders at an African Union (AU) heads of state prayer breakfast meeting held at the Ghanaian State House banquet hall. Mr Mwanawasa, who moderated the prayer service, said African leaders had gathered to acknowledge the sovereignty of God’s leadership and blessings upon African governments.” We leaders of Africa who represent the people have gathered here to acknowledge the sovereignty of God’s leadership and blessings upon our governments,” Mr Mwanawasa said. Those who attended the AU breakfast prayers were Yoweri Mseveni of Uganda, Ellen Johnson Sirleaf of Liberia, Boni Yayi of Benin, Marc Ravalomanana of Madagascar and Pakalithha Bethuel Mosisili, the Prime Minister of Lesotho. The objectives of the prayer breakfast include to acknowledge the sovereignty of God over all nations of the AU and to invoke God’s wisdom and blessings.Ministers of Foreign Affairs Mundia Sikatana, Finance and National Planning Ng’andu Magande, Youth, Sport and Child Development, and Deputy Minister of Education Lucy Changwe attended the prayer breakfast.Others were Foreign Affairs permanent secretary Tens Kapoma, Zambia’s permanent representative to the United Nations Lazarus Kapambwe, Zambia’s ambassador to Ethiopia and the AU Patrick Sinyinza, Zambia’s high commissioner to Nigeria and Ghana Godfrey Musonda. And in a mediation and reflection sermon themed: “Transformational servant leadership,” Ghana Baptist Council president, Reverend Steve Asante urged African heads of state to seek authority from God.Rev. Asente said any leader who sought power from other means other than God, was bound to face serious dangers. He said the authority that existed among African leaders had been given by God and that any authority that was bestowed on anyone without people’s blessings could not go anywhere because it was not recognized by God.” Authority is from God. No one can give himself authority to rule Africans without it coming from God,” Rev. Asante said. He also appealed to leaders attending the AU summit in Accra to be companions of divinity and endeavor to fight corruption in Africa from its grassroots. He said African leaders should work hard to fight corruption because people were crying from the pain of poverty. Africa had abundant resources but greed among leaders had led to rampant corruption and high poverty levels in most countries on the continent. He urged the leaders attending the summit to critically reflect on the deliberations so that they could come up with decisions that would help the people and take Africa to God’s destiny.

  78. Paparazzi,
Understand this and ignore the desperate quacks: what we are seeing here is the typical characteristic of terror inclined trolls who have limited hope: Terrorists are scared with pundits who don’t sound rational and not sounding strong anti Government. To them such are Shushushus. They feel free in imaginary closed societies of strong and blind anti Government rhetoric of endless hopeless. They hate pundits found too conscious and rational in debates. Their fear is born out of personal guiltiness for many wrongs that someone got them in sight for eventualities. Little do they know that in the real world, there is no free society. What the world of interdependence wants is always achieved with much easy irrespective of cost. No Government would fail getting what is in its best interest. Rhetoric can never beat, delay or obstruct the mission impossible. That is wishful thinking among the blind and bitter heads whose time is up. Calling Shushushu those who speak with independence of mind from the popular views is neither a safe guard nor a panacea to altering the views they hate to read from rational citizens. That is the effort of desperation from criminals confused and idealess on what is cooking or what to do with those they have failed to destroy. If anything, Shushushus with decent education (BA or higher) coupled with special skills have a Global future with endless incentives and prestige in this interdependent world under threat of terrorists and dispute resolutions. They are good fits and patterned at any level any where in the world. They are jackals of all trades though masters of challenging missions. Many international and strategic institutes are headed by such people. Bush senior was President; Putin is heading Russia while many international organizations and multi-lateral institutions are staffed with such professionals. If one calls shushsushu just sympathize with their ignorance and desperate failure of silencing you. What we are seeing here is all nothing but a walk over for well vested and skilled citizens in escalation phase. Jealous and hatred has always proved the source of this blindness among some people denying them to see through their dangerous weakness and personal accountability in the vicious world.
To be a shushushu is a big honor to the world that is why no nation today exists without them.

  79. #86patron, he might as well have led them in a seance for all we care, thankyou!!

Papparazzi, don’t deny having used abusive language against others. We respect your views on VJ, but you should also respect ours, THAT HE BROUGHT THE NAME OF OUR COUNTRY INTO DISREPUTE WHEN HE STARTED SHIFTING THOSE DRUGS FOR HIS OWN SELFISHNESS, & not so long ago HE INSULTED OUR SENSIBILITIES BY THINKING HE COULD DECEIVE THE WHOLE COUNTRY – if that is what you consider is deserving of respect, you should be in cuckoo-land!!

Zambia has had a clinic/hospital b4 which would have been @ par with morningside – It was established by citizens paying into a private scheme & it caught the eyes of KK & his cronies – the appropriated it & degraded it to todays Maina Soko Hospital – built out of privated funds & taken over by shameless politicians without much of compensation for the poor members. Zambia is very capable of running a two tier medical system, it is already there, just that services are lagging.

  80. UTH is an institution we should “have been” proud of, & we “could still be!” That place has produced talent, that one can only dream of, if one were to roll out the alumni & where everyone is & what they are doing, you’d have a lump in your throat wondering why why??? Well, roll back the years, when they politicians would harp about how insolent the junior doctors were & didn’t hesitate to fire them, no one came to their aid. So they learnt quickly, to keep their heads down & how to get on the next plane out – medicine is one profession that is a passport to the world, people sacrifice their lives in their youth to study for 7 long years to serve & save other peoples lives even for a pittance as long as they can be appreciated & looked after. It is now down to the masses to get these politicians to turn the ship round, it is time people became proactive – People have to learn that to make MP’s accountable, you have to make life hard for them, hound them whenever you meet them..cont

  81. cont… make them feel uncomfortable to the point where they feel threatened, only then will they wake up & return to parly to direct prioritised spending for real developmental purposes. We are too timid with them, & only look at them in awe as they cruise around in the landcruisers! We have all experienced too much pain losing loved ones in these institutions, BUT it’s all in our hands, WE CAN CHANGE IT!!!We only have to mobilise & sensitise. MP’s need to really pressure MOH – the PS, no one should shield him, he should be pursued with the same vigour expended on FTJ.

  82. AUSTRALIAN POLICE NAB 8TH SUSPECT
Several nations aid in ‘fast-moving investigation’; most suspects are doctors

BRISBANE, Australia – Police in Australia have arrested a 27-year-old medical registrar over the foiled terror attacks in London and Glasgow, Australian officials said Tuesday.
State and federal police seized the man, whose name was not immediately released, at the international airport in the eastern city of Brisbane, where he was trying to board a flight with a one-way ticket late Monday, Attorney General Philip Ruddock told reporters in the national capital, Canberra. No charges have been filed yet. Ruddock said the man was not an Australian citizen, but declined to state the man’s nationality. The suspect had been working as a registrar at the Gold Coast Hospital in eastern Queensland state. A registrar is a medical officer, nearly always a doctor, who is qualified to provide patient care.” The individual concerned was seeking to leave Australia and I understand did not

  83. #91Veteran, we appreciate thats your territory, but shouldn’t you be posting this on your INTRA-NET blog???

BRISBANE, Australia – Police in Australia have arrested a 27-year-old medical registrar over the foiled terror attacks in London and Glasgow, Australian officials said Tuesday. State and federal police seized the man, whose name was not immediately released, at the international airport in the eastern city of Brisbane, where he was trying to board a flight with a one-way ticket late Monday, Attorney General Philip Ruddock told reporters in the national capital, Canberra. No charges have been filed yet. A registrar is a medical officer, nearly always a doctor, who is qualified to provide patient care.”The individual concerned was seeking to leave Australia and I understand did not have a return ticket,” Ruddock told reports. “The man is currently assisting police with their inquiries.”Ruddock would not say what the man’s alleged involvement in the British terror plots was, nor whether other people in Australia were under investigation. He also declined to tell reporters where the man had been heading when he was arrested. Police executed a number of search warrants across Queensland state overnight, including at the hospital where the man worked, but there was no sign that Australia was a possible target for attack, Ruddock said. On Monday, five doctors working at British hospitals were identified among the eight held in the failed car bomb attacks, NBC News has learned. Three of the five held in Britain are fully certified doctors while two are trainers, officials, speaking on condition of anonymity, told NBC News. Officers used heightened stop-and-search powers and armed response vehicles to hunt for anyone else who might have been involved in the plot, and police put on a show of force to bolster security at airports and train stations and on city streets.Hours after Scottish police announced the arrests of two more suspects in the Glasgow area, officials said Monday night that a man had been detained at an “undisclosed location.” They declined to comment on a British Broadcasting Corp. report, citing unidentified sources, that the suspect was detained in another country it did not specify. According to reports obtained by ITN, one of the suspects arrested in connection with the Glasgow attacks was the driver of one of the cars found in London tied to the foiled bombings. A British security official said earlier in the day that Pakistan and several other nations were asked to check possible links with the suspects. British-born terrorists behind the bloody 2005 London transit bombings and others in thwarted plots here were linked to terror training camps and foreign radicals in Pakistan.“We have asked partners overseas to check possible links and that work has begun,” the security official said, speaking on condition of anonymity because of the sensitivity of the case. Authorities said police searched at least 19 locations as part of the “fast-moving investigation,” which has come at a time of already high vigilance before the anniversary of the suicide bombings in London that killed 52 people on July 7, 2005.

It would be easier to create an economic union first before a united political state of africa can be even considered.let the leaders work out tariff free arrangements for goods across the continent.eventually people too will move between regions thereby increasing integration among peoples. At the moment(as christians) we trade with muslim countries but are we comfortable living among them and according to their rules.only years of barrier free trade will create a commonality between the different ethnic regions of Africa.political unity at the moment is impossible as each region has it’s own distinct political culture. The leaders should just work according to the principle of “continental integration through trade”. the closer we get to this the more feasible the currently impractical ideal of political union will be!!!

  88. Lets respect the others, the sick and the healthy alike. Its a fact that about 16% of Zadians balikwata akashishi, VJ and Kafupi are just among the prominent ones, its absolutely normal given such a high prevalence for these fellows to be unlucky kasishiwise.
Sending them abroad however is a waste of money given that there are many others in their position who have to go only as far as UTH. where is the justice?

  89. #95 stop putting these world news pa blog, all you can do get into sky.com/news and you will find all the news, dont appear to sharp, everyone is as intelligent as you are.

  90. #84 PAPARAZZI.I think you`re not serving LPM and his Demagogues well on this blog with the shallow spin you keep offering.Try and learn a few lessons from arguably the best spin doctor on the planet in the name of Karl Rove.Even though he currently has his hands full, I`m sure he would be more than willing to give you one or two tips on how to go about this kind of business.

  91. Comments about V.J on this blog have been intresting, some educative and some dishartening. Gentlemen,we should be by now in zambia and or as zambians gone past the stigma towards sick people and who says V.J has what some of you are calling ” big malaria” ( Hiv/Aids i want to belive),unless one of us on this blog is a doctor attending to him, we should not jump into conclusions but rather wish the man a quick recovery and a better health, V.J may have had done some unpleasant things, let him be the one to answer those issues when his time comes wether to G.R.Z and or to the almighty. As to who is paying his bills again we can not conclude that G.R.Z is paying, unless somone has info regarding that, even then we need to understand that he as a zambian and veteran has right to better medical services, lets remember that back in the day even poor mambwe soko was taken to south africa for better services.Yes we do need our own better medical serivces as to avoid such situations.

  92. Che #101, if the diagnosis is established, VJ might even help in bringing down stigma if he did come out openly about his condition. Again this is only up to him, infact he may not even have “big malaria’, of course that would be against conclusions made on layman observations which are often correct in Z .
Fact is GRZ is paying, just read any of the govt paper or ZNBC site.

  93. It’s intellectually challenged imbeciles like “Anonymous” who have no balls to even put their names to their contribution who want to turn this forum into something cheap and dirty.
If a disease is running high in the population and a lot of innocent women and children are being affected everyday what good does it serve to victmise individuals? GO CHECK YOUR IQ!

  94. Shapi # 100,
Some of us broadly experienced bloggers have found you disgracefully pathetic, blank minded, cowardly, visionless, democratically chocked, cheaply malicious, unprofitably envious, provably shallow minded and crewlessly cornered in your final rounds without strategies to break off those found with sober divergent views. You are a troll without moral conviction, courage or decent workable strategy. You have proved the like of one or two trolls we had on “ZOL” in the run-up to the 2006 tripartite elections the MMD won. We witnessed them pick up helpless sticks when challenged and exposed on their lies. They went on threatening to engineer deportations on opponents that challenged them out of pure ignorance that their opponents carried seals of clean legality in the Diaspora. Instead, the opposite was true. The opponents had fine data on vulnerability of the dreamers of deportations and baseless death threats for their imaginary enemies found anti opposition. On escalation, stunning critical data started running in the blogs. Then only did the impulsive dreamers realize how vulnerable they were in that evil route of self destruction. My free advice is that you consider reflecting and coming up with workable strategies to curve Paparazzi out of his forthright punditry. The route you have taken of maliciously calling him shushushu is not winnable because those are the Guardian of national sovereignty carrying unregulated rewards and prestige. Even then, you will never have any pinning details or facts at hand to adjudicate on. If anything, many of us patriotic pundits have found you too childish and ignorantly a pathetic danger to self. I mean you are a non strategy proven mercenary / terrorist to our sovereignty besides being an immediate danger to Sata’s PF whose party I have closely proved you troll for in vain. Good lucky in your hope of self deceit.

  95. #101che, we have no problem in him as a zambian being sent abroad, as it is every zambian’s right( A special fund was established in the early years, to cater for specialised treatment for serious & complicated medical ailments for which THERE WAS A GAP IN MEDICAL EXPERTISE – & NOT CAUSED BY THE MERE NEGLECT OF MEDICAL INSTITUTIONS BY INEPT POLITICIANS – BUT what we are against are as follows:
1)The preferential treatment given to politicians to source this fund as compared to the ordinary citizens for simple ailments such as a cough, or dysentry, etc etc!!
2)A Medical board should sit & decide on each individual case before being evacuated(Being admitted to UTH isn’t the criterion for evac,& doesn’t necessarily mean a board considered the case!)

Politicians haven’t earned themselves a special right in this case, if anything the have lost it, so those arguing for, really have no basis – simply claim you are VJ’s fans, there is no harm in that – ku shifta tu powder!

  96. I hope and pray that VJ has now given him self in full
God.Let him forget about all the wrong things he did during 2011 elections. My advice to Katele Kalumba is
that, let him drop from that position, because Kalulu tapusuka i mipwaibili and umukulu tapusa akebo.Ask prof Mapmpa Mutonga at UNZA on this two bemba saying.
89% of our govrnment leaders spend only 4 hours in they offices and most of the time is spent on seeing Dr’s.How can work m in offices move like this. This leaders in top positions should be paid per hour.Just go to one of the pravate clincs and see how many hours they spend there for beds reast in day.Take your bed rest in thr offices so that you can sign our papers okay bosses.

  97. Veteran, we are desparately seeking a bed for you in our famous hospital along great East Road, don’t be afraid, you will be fine when you are discharged, probably in time for xmas!!

  98. #104reading between lines Veteran and Paparrazzi is one person, and dont be so shrewed and hard hitting at Chapi, I see no sense in your attacks, Let Chapi say what best suits and continue with best suits, to agree to disagree does not resort to name calling, your are offside. If you are an MMD stooge just stick to your beliefs , like I do over FTJ, no one under this blog will take that away from me.So for the future desist such kind of blogging its for the little minds not a man of your standing? Why is your pressure so high? Eat some Mango leaves and you will be fine?

  99. Before you chat anything about VJ, please be aware that VJ is more than your average guy. This man is well respected world wide and has always been at the right side of the law. His diplomacy is well documented. For heaven sake, the man is 68 years Old and still counting unlike some of you trollers who wont even reach that age.
We need to save VJ so that he can complete his book about Zambia from independence to now.
Meanwhile let us continue agitating for improved Health care by investing into our Local hosipitalss and creation of specialist clinics which can both be for high profile paying characters and sponsored operations

  100. #109 Dr HK, do you know that it is ease to smear you with feaces and difficulty to get rid of the smell te? That what VJ has done to his life.

  101. 107#bauze what did veteran do to go to chinama Hospital? Iam just curios. Ba Chapi stop fighting on the blog. If you to fight use cbyer warfare. Not war of words.

  102. Ba Joze, You have reminded me of the Lumpas ‘LenshinaZ’, they used that formula to stop bullets from killing them.
You are right, Ba VJ has led an extraordinary life..The man is complex and lived many years ahead of many Zambians…Being an former operative of some higher powers and who knows even now. He boast of people like Mumpanga senior among his friend…Even that smear and stench could not stick on him.
Ma broke Yaba VJ, sima-broke monga Yaife Ba JOZE.

  103. #104.PAPARAZZI(now calling Yourself VETERAN)Let`s focus our energies on something productive.Let`s desist from name calling when we run out of counter arguements. Our health care system needs to be revamped and not trotting to airports to see off our sick leaders whenever they are getting evacuated for medical attention.MEDI CLINIC the owners of Morningside Clinic have been contemplating opening up a similar hospital in Zambia because of the number of patients they keep receiving from Zambia. You don`t tell me that, there`s no money to invest in our health system when we always find money to waste on unnecessary bye elections and these costly evacuations. The question at hand isn`t wether VJ,LPM or even FTJ deserve any medical care at govt expense, I think they all do but within Zambia.I`m sure we do remember how well the mine hospitals used to run and if we could have built on that the current health care problems we`re experiencing could have been avoided.

  104. Paparazi,You are broad minded person but in some cases you are so shallow minded coz when anyone challenges you, you opt for abusive language. There is no need of all sort of abusive language. You are living in the fantasy world grow up. it’s time to show some form of respect to other contributors on the blog and this is what makes educated pipo different from those who can’t reason.
Veteran I know you are paparazi also grow up no one on this blog believes in terrorism neither in any voilence act that will endanger our pipo.We are peace loving ZAM ZAMS and well educated with excellent jobs. I pity for you guys learn to show respect, behaviour breeds behaviour. Shushushu is just for a joke and you can’t take it personally. Remain blessed

  105. Ba VJ nabakota fye. Why spend millions of dollars on one person when UNZA lecturer as well as student balefwa nensala ati gov. taikwete impiya. Where do they get money to evacuate “abakote” ku south? Lets be serious gentlemen.

  106. Mwaanga is alive – Mulongoti
Information Minister, Mike Mulongoti has refuted stories circulating that former Information Minister, Vernon Mwaanga who was taken ill to South Africa, has died.

Mr. Mulongoti said the story is false and baseless as Mr. Mwaanga is alive and under going medical treatment in South Africa.

He wondered where this story was coming from because Mr. Mwaanga’s son, Vernon Mwaanga junior confirmed through Lands minister, Bradford Machila that his father was okey.

Mr. Mwaanga was taken to South Africa, Saturday aboard a Zambian Airways plane bound for Johannesburg after an illness.

He was earlier admitted to UTH Intensive care unit.

Efforts to get a comment from the Ministry of Health spokesperson Canicious Banda failed.

  107. Wazakaza Ng’uni dies in crash
The Police Commanding Officer for Lusaka – Wazakaza Ng’uni has died.

Mr. Ng’uni died in a car crash, near Kabangwe on the outskirts of the capital.

Inspector General of Police, Ephraim Mateyo confirmed the death of Mr. Ng’uni.

The funeral of Mr. Ng’uni is being held at his Kabulonga home.

  108. Mr.Mwaanga is indeed alive and progressively recapitulating.Hardly 4 hours ago from my time of this post, VJ junior his son in periodic updates, text(SMS) me with the progress report that my dear friend evacuated from the UTH intensive care on Saturday is progressing well.VJ junior knows better our enduring bonds with his father. Over the years he has proved without change to be very mature and reliable. He would never misfeed me on the status of his Dad.
So, VJ senior is alive and responding well to the medical care in SA.

  109. #122 Ba G.B finshi mulefwaya twishibe?what is your purpose of writing? We are not interested in your personal friendship with VJ, its immaterial, all should have said is just to confirm that he is alive like #120 has done.Grow up and dont be a chancer.

  110. You are very right “Kuku”. Ba G.B is just a chancer who wants to associate himself with VJ. Just be yourself mr G.B.

  111. I am at pain with some behavour. What would be the motive of a sane person peddling false messages of death for a fellow human being hospitalised? Who doesn’t get sick? How can such a person ever find goodness and mercy in his personal life? To the Mwaanga family at home and abroad, we commit the old man to God for his will to be done. Mr.Owen, thanks for your assurance and please sacrifice to encourage your friend’s family. They may be old and strong, but Good friends are pillars in such times. I have faith the old man will pull through.

  112. I find it difficult to wish VJ quick recovery mwandi,i just dont care wat happens to him.cha kota chimudala let him rest atase.
Wazakaza its bad he’s gone b4 he apologised to unza students for callin them disgruntled

  113. “Mr Wanzelu” please you should have a human heart. Put yourself in Mwaanga junior’s shoes, how can you feel. Gentlemen, lets be sincere to each other. We know mwaanga has done many wrong things but this is the time to reconcile and forget about the past. May I, at this point, wish Mr. Mwaanga quick recovery. Alibifya twalishiba but tuli bantu tufwile ukukwata uluse.

  114. Wanzelu (126) is a sadists who doesn’t know his personal condition either. What can society expect from such? All the civilised and decent people, we have a task to help him out of his crisis.

  115. #127-129 what is the difference between VJ and FTJ? You want to imply that despite their misdemenours one deserves more sympathy than the other. In life its good to be human because of dignity of others.Leave Wanzelu alone, he has his own facts about why he is saying what he is saying.Dont push him to the wall

  116. There are no facts or basis of that sadistic mindset. He is just a “brainless primate”. No one has ever wished FJT death but legal justice.

  117. My sympathy goes to the family of the late Wazakaza Nguni and to the rank and file of the Zambia Police Service. Mr. Nguni was a Police Officer par excellence who rose through the ranks. A product of the “old school”. He worked for a long time in the City of Kitwe. He was at one time a Constable at Mindolo Police Station in the 80’s and did a lot in stopping crime and black marketeering across the road in Chimwemwe Township. He was renown for drilling (“Pelete”) junior officers under his command. It was once rumoured that he gave FJT a very excellent salute in Kitwe which earned him a promotion and transfer to the City of Lusaka.

  118. #131 your reaction and feelings from Wanzelu’s comment is what other people get when you talk ill of FTJ,not you but many others on the blog, what Am I saying, its always good to be morally upright in life and always have the feelings of the other person in those shoes. It doesnot pay to be so heart hearted in real life.#127 has concluded well in his comment and that is what the spirit must be in Zambians not the carnibal behaviour we are seeing nowdays.Iam glad Patron you have learnt something out of Wanzelu’s comment

  119. M.Daka, how are you my dear? there will be a cabinet meeting today at Mukuba, are you going to make it? We need to discuss this Africa Union government.Bajoze will be there,so let me know well in advance so that transport to pick you up from the airport is on time.

  120. Condolences to the Nguni family. We have lost you at a time the nation needed you most. Just last week you talked of helping painting the all Police Stations in accordance with Make Zambia clean campaign. If not mistaken you just introduced Zambia Police Interectuall unity is you said was going to combat Palagarism and copy right of products. I remember saying that this subject is not yet introduced at the Univeristy of Zambia. So you had a vision for the nation. Mr. Mwaanga I wish you also a quick recovery but remember your home village Mwanabiya they are behind in development. When you get do something for this peace since now you are no longer in active politics.

  121. #134, Kuku Mukwai, I am doing fine. Cabinet meeting? I am sorry, I will not make it to Mukuba due to some other commitments I have. My apologies. By the way, are there any proxy forms for voting purposes.

  122. #136 Too bad because this is your area of expertise,Yes you can send in a proxy, this is critical because we are being taken for a ride in joining worthless unions whose benefits are imaginary.I will email you the proxy forms.Minutes will be communicated to you or may we can do the web cam, I will ask Easy to speak to Judge Chinyama to give us the one they use between FTJ and QC Smith,I gather its more secure from hackers like Paparrazi and Veteran.
Condolescences to the Wazakaza Nguni’s family, this man brought sanity to ZP, he will be greatly missed.

  123. We wish VJ a quick recovery and back to good health.

I am deeply sadned at the tragic and untimely death of Wazakaza Nguni. He was the epitome of what a policeman should be. His demise comes at a time when sanity was almost being restored to a city like Lusaka.

I remember Wasakaza a long time ago in Kitwe as a nonosense policeman. I come across again many years later in Lusaka around five in the morning when he was doing a roadrun on the road from Lilayi police training college.

Condolences to his family, the police and the many ordinary Zambians whose lives he made a bit safer from criminalty.

I am touched by his death

  124. #137. You never cease to amaze me with your ingenuity, I will wait for your email. I am sure you have heard that “Tricky Dick” an FJT supporter to the core, like you, has spoken. Any taking on that?

  125. Has Dr.Chituwo picked anything on this debate over health infrastracture in the country and what needed to be done. Kuku# before you leave Masala please make you enquire from the PS. Make appointment and see him personality. Tell Ba Joze to keep on fundraising because time is runing out his friend Abama has taken the lead. I hope next time he will inform us how much he so far raised. Boss Kuku# Sata yersterday asked the removal of Katele as chairman of ZCID.Pilz send some journalist to confront LPM on arrival from Accra over the CC.We need an answer and if Nguni is becoming an opprtunist let him be sorted out by IG general Mateyo who he needs to is charge him of purjery and insurbodinate. The proxy forms are secure and you can get them anytime. If they delay go to Mumba Malila he has some pending for house plunders who run away to UK.

  126. VJ must have been quite ill, it is at this point when those who want to be FIRST to report death create rumors. I am certain my memory saves me well, even FTJ had a similar rumour when he was really bad.Yes and Mazoka at one point..
    2 bad for Wazakaza loss.

  127. 37 church members hospitalised after drinking.Munkoyo.kuku what is all this in your town coming from Main Masala? How can one sell poisonus roots to make Munkoyo. Mwitapa kula ipaana bane. God forbid! We need you as voters in 2011 for true democracy.

  128. What type of ailment is VJ suffering from?Is there any official position and not just the “Big Malaria” rumored arround on this blog. Please give us an update of his current state of health.

  129. Chapi # 143, you are one of the guys that have fueled this blog with this diagnosis you made on V.J having ” big malaria” how dare you turn around and ask us again. You guys need to be a lot more mature, V.J is as human as you are don’t rejoice cause somone is sick. Am sure they will notify us in due course on what his ailment is.keep un open mind.

  130. Can someone please give us an update on how VJ is feeling? We wish him a speedy recovery and Gods healing on hand on him.

  131. #144 .There`s no need to be emotional here. What`s wrong in me trying to finding out VJ`s ailment?Mind you he was evacuated using my money as a taxpayer.I have a right to know how he`s doing.Humanely speaking it`s in times like this when we put political affiliations aside and unify in wishing him a quick recovery.May the almighty grant him good health.

  132. Chapi # 146, do you mean to say you’re one of those chaps that blow their own whistles if you’ ve helped somone? Dear friend you are not the only one paying tax in zambia, no doubt you have a right to know how he is doing, but its unfortunate that you have to remind us that its because of your tax that V.J was evacuated .I wonder if you don’t tell your next door neighbor every time you help another neighbor about the time you gave them salt.Unification is important in times like these, not slumming and reminding people of what we have done for them,V.j has contributed imensley in the political scene in our country, he deserves a little respect.

  133. #147 You puppets of VJ you seem to have a problem, who tells you when some one did well cannot be sick? Are you crazy? Its the modality at play which we are against.Neglecting our own health service and developing others at our expense. How much money has our govt paid morningside? How much is a CT scan? VJ or no VJ the system is just foolish and irrelevant to modern management principles.Have you ever heard of the 7s model of excellence?Go and read about it and stop boring us with your irritability. Is VJ a God who cannot be talked about otherwise? suppose its big malaria what will you do? Absolutely nothing so there is nothing sinister to enquire about one’s ailment, even you if you have big malaria contact Chituwo for those contaminated ARV’s, dont feel shy, one day Dr sondashi will bring in a vaccine

  134. Shapi is a parody unfamiliar with moral credence. All you wasting your time with that Shapi-monster, your wisdom will never make sense to it. Society will always have such retards come what may. We are in a world of diversity.Roll on with real people equally here.

  135. Chapi#48,with all the respect to you, insult me in which ever way you want but, i think i just told you facts that got you all emotional, that comment probably defines who you are such that now after seeing the monster in your mirror, you want to discredit others.Secondly me revealing my identity to you wont make any diffrence , how many people on this blog use alias’ , for all we know yours could be an alias ,therefore its imaterial .A
Am sure i have a right to doing what i want and use whatever name i want.Learn to respect people.

  136. Shapi is an ape, a family class member of monkeys, with strong ties to those descended from fish where vision is a challenge to retain with age.

  137. Wamene iwe patron # 129,i dont care wat VJ feed u with but really his not my role model,to me yo idol is just a crook without principles, sick o not sick.I understand bigots like u,am not tryn to be morbid but yo dogmatism is just appalling,u seem to take pleasure in yappin yappin typical of charlatans ata wamene iwe

  138. As alway happens, when a thread becomes this long, it always degenerates into this, no surprise that it brings the “ape” out of us all!!

  139. I had a niece from the village in Mazabuka who developed skin cancer (she was albino) in 2000, and the docs at UTH recommended that she be evacuated to SA. GRZ even footed the bill for accommodation and upkeep for the mother to accompany the girl to SA. These were ordinary poor folks who could not even afford transport to Lusaka in the first place, and we had no connections whatsoever in the circles of power. Unfortunately, my niece did not survive. I know for a fact that ordinary people are evacuated on a regular basis to SA and even overseas! Its just that those do not make the headlines, and medical ethics prevents UTH from giving the details of all that they do. Otherwise that would look like cheap publicity! But I do agree with the sentiment that if GRZ invested all that money spent on evacuations and medical expenses in UTH, they would assit many more people than is the case at the moment.

  140. #155 it is always good to be a good parent.Zambian leaders have displayed some bad parenting in their activities.Of course there will be exceptions but it should not be an in thing for a certain class of people.Bad parenting, I mean its like you have children and your kids are ever in your neighbours yard to watch ‘A’ team because you as a father has failed to empower them with a black and white TV, what would your neighbour think of you? In the mean time you as a father is ever smartly dressed, buying helicopters ,4 corner shoes, going on trips with a high man level ensemble but cant afford a black and white TV, is that normal?

  141. Kuku 156# What 154# has outlined is a reality of the Zambian situation. You comment codially right parenting is big problem in Zambia some men clobber their wife because of food. The husband in some homes will eat the biggest share living the children to suffer from Maltrituttion. Sometime the woman will even support, this is the way we have been living. We need radical change to enhence new direction which will benefit society not individuals. Really our hospitals used to be good, this evacaute snydrome is still very young. Can you get the statistics of how many pipo has been taken to SA for treatment. I remember the late Chona Mainz using this Tonga phrase ” Choolwebwe bacako lukumbilila lujazya milomo” I was asking my what it implies- Begging is not good, it better to have your own things.

  142. #157 mwaice being Proud of your status is paramount in life. That is why everything we import from RSA comes with a logo ‘Proudly South African’that is good for the country, no one will ever make you proud except your inner soul.Easy when you invent that ATM which will be remote controlled from some distance we shall be the happiest nation on earth and we label it ‘Easy with Zambian ingenuity’, that why mwaice when look at leadership we need visionary leaders who can interpret things, bench mark with other nations and apply great innovativeness like Obasanjo did to his $39bn debt. And yet Zambia with less than 10m accummulated $7.2bn with nothing to show for?

  143. Big kuku# you are great analyst and you world trends dispite being Ndola. I wish you were GRZ right now people of Ndola would have started benefiting. Trade Marks bamudaala means alot. Die you know that Aspirin is a name of some white man. Nangu the loved mercedes Benz its named after someone the dauther of the invent of the car. Big Iam doing alot I hope you have heard about contactless technology. It will roll out in Europe this year the test was successful in Malasiya in 2005. That is why when I come to Zambia I want to help my beloved nation. I have learned a lot. Big one guy he asked me about our pots we use to cook nshima. He told me nothing has changed much since stone age. He told me to start thing on those lines to improve the cooking pot because you achieve two things no more chiteme system and you reduce climate changes. I dream of this invention everyday and nite. Mudaala for the first German scientists have managed to separate the gene that cause HIV and they killed it.

  144. Kuku#158, I have said time and again Zambia should move away from a borrowing nation to a lending nation. I asked one economist at ministry of finance how we can break away from borrowing, I tried to give him hints how to go about it instead totally refused and said its not possible. You can have a wise president but if his advisors have inferior imaginations we cannot go away, that why when say come 2011 I will be understand in my home area for leadership. Be it as DC or MPs I file nominations. I hope you are also thinking the same at Mindolo and Mine Masala.

  145. Kuku and Easy, I share your opinions. I thin this is a good forum to exchange ideas, especially for us in the diaspora, about what can work for Z. I would like to appeal to all you peace loving sons and daughters of Z to moderate your language on this forum. We do not even know the people we write to, but some of the stuff I have read above are filled with bad language, and invective, that I think belongs elsewhere.

  147. #162 Chiller Kuku is a man of integrity and wisdow. I have find him too be a liable person. Looking at his contribution you have not doubt he has a shoulder to lean on. His ideas are viable and he has motivation for young pipo. If real we can utilise such gathering exchanging ideas instead of pourng insults to each other definately the president will have no worry when he will be leaving office in 4 yrs. I have as well seen your other contributions they are geniune. I love Zambia and I looking forward to be there and contribute in th development directly. One factor I have learned is in diaspora no matter what you remain a foreign unless you become a Billionare like Bill Gates no will look at you. Home is the best. We have pay back to our nation.

  153. Unquestionably imagine that that you said. Your favorite justification seemed to be on the net the simplest thing to consider of. I say to you, I certainly get irked at the same time as folks think about issues that they just do not understand about. You controlled to hit the nail upon the highest and defined out the whole thing with no need side effect , folks could take a signal. Will likely be again to get more. Thanks
