Division 1 Preview and Relegation round-up

Share

Chambishi and Nkana are both just one victory away from promotion to the Faz Premier League when they take to the pitch on Wednesday in their delayed Division 1 north week 28 games.

Top placed Nkana and second positioned Chambishi have been hand the opportunity to book their promotion with two games to spare.

This is after 3rd placed Prison Leopards lost 2-1 away to relegation threatened Konkola Mine Police in their Week 28 match played on Sunday.

Nkana lead on 59 points from 27 games played while Chambishi are a point behind and Prisons stuck on 54 points and can only amass 60 points in their remaining two matches.

Victory for Chambishi in midweek at home against Mufulira Blackpool would see Aggrey Chiyangi’s team make a quick return to the top-flight following their relegation last season.

Nkana on the other hand host Lime Hotspurs will be hoping to complete their first return to the Faz Premier League since they were demoted from the elite league in 2004.

And the race for promotion in Division 1 south is set to go to the wire with the only three challengers in the race for promotion from the zone separated by just two points going into Wednesday delayed Week 28 games.

Green Eagles lead on 58 points, while Riflemen and Nkwazi are locked on 56 perched in 2nd and 3rd place respectively.

Eagles await Livingstone Pirates, Nkwazi are away to Profund Warriors while Riflemen are at Chilanga Heroes.

Meanwhile, the four relegation teams from Faz Premier League are confirmed after Red Arrows made sure of their survival with a 5-0 win over bottom placed Nakambala Leopards who first to be relegated a week ago.

12th placed Arrows win saw them shift to 32 points while 13th positioned Zamtel on 26 points from 28 games cannot usurp them due to a vastly inferior goal difference.

The full list of teams that have been relegated are Zamtel, Forest Rangers, Nakambala (After two seasons in the top-flight) and National Assembly who ended a four year stay in the highlife.

  1. I haven’t heard anything from Faz concerning friendly games and camping for the National team before the Africa Cup.Nigeria just drew 2-2 with Mexico the other day, next the are playing Australia as part of their preparations.Senegal beat Guinea 3-1 over the weekend in a friendly game.SA is to play Italy tomorrow and Ghana is busy with friendlies.I know i might be speaking too early maybe Faz is waiting for the draw on Friday then the will move into action.
This thing of expecting the team to

  2. Cont # 3 perform miracles when the are not prepareed is history. We need to start arranging for games now and the players also need to know how much the will be playing for at the tournament before the leave.Wining bonuses need to be sorted out.Let’s motivate the lads by giving them good incentives.Iam sure the are companies willing to help Faz in these areas.I stand to be corrected i believe the coaches who took the U-20 to Canada haven’t been paid fully this is 3 or 4 months after the came back

    Zambia to camp in Germany
    By Diana Mutakafimbo

THE Zambia Soccer team will camp in Germany to prepare for the Ghana 2008 African Cup of Nations (ACN) in what will turn out to be the national team’s best pre-tournament tune-up since the 1994 edition.
Patrick Phiri’s squad will end its preparations with preparatory matches in Togo and Nigeria before flying into Accra for the tournament scheduled to begin on January 20 next year.
According to the programme drafted by the te

  4. I agree with Sibs, This is the right moment for frindly matches. What is FAZ waiting for? Come December, FAZ will be panicking and start arranging games against local clubs as part of preparations.FAZ should come up with a proper preparation plan now, otherwise history will keep on repeating itself.

  5. Born Rich thanks for the info this what we need. The team camping in Europe. But i hope Togo will have a full team cos the are out of the Africa cup.Are we going to play Nigeria or just clubs there thats what i want to know? Born Rich you contribution was not complete.

  6. Mr Born Rich, Iam sorry your dream for Kalampa to meet Zesco in the Barclays cup were dashed by Konkola Blades. It is good to hear that the squad will camp in Germany.

  7. Born Rich i have just seen the report in the Times of Zambia, on the team camping in Germany. The only thing i haven’t seen is a friendly game or games with other countries.I’m sure Faz are working on this.We not here to condemn Faz but just to offer checks and balances.I know it’s not easy working within Faz with money problems.I salute the Teddy Mulonga executive they have done their best under difficult circumstances.

The beauty about life is that it affords us another opportunity, most of the time. We still have a chance of meeting Zesco in the Charity Shield sometime in March/April 2008. If that does not happen, we are assured of meeting ZESCO on two accassions in the premier league next year! ZESCO must fall. We must avenge that defeat and show Zesco that the owners of the league title are back!!

Hope we can “kalampa” some premier league teams in the MOSI cup.
    Good day.

  9. #8 Thanks Sibs-RSA
FAZ must however, convince us that they can come up with good (and even better) PLANS and EXECUTE them to the letter.
In the past, there have been good plans on the table, but when it mattered most, things have not gone as planned, largely because the people who were supposed to ensure that these things come to pass have not done so.
Viva Zambia – The land of my birth.

  10. The camping of the NAtional soccer team in Germany for 1 week is very very inadequate. This is just a proposal from the technical committee subject to approval by the FAZ. FAZ is banking on the Cosafa finals gainst SOUth Africa as part of the team’s preparations, which again is not enough. The team needs thorough preps. The regroupiing of the team on Decemeber 10 is also rather too late preparatiojns of the Team. the technicla committee and FAZ should work up and face realities. Organise ctd

  11. some friendly matches with some of the credible National soccer team and not just playinga division 3-4 in Germany. FAZ is rubish.

  12. With some quality players in the team, I foresee Zambia plying dismally once more due to poor orgnisation and preparations of the team. First round out!!

  13. It is good to know that the National Team will camp in Germany, but I was taken aback by what appears to be a short spell there. While I am aware that it is very expensive to camp in Europe for a long time, I am of the opinion that we could have asked for help from friendly countries that could have helped us stay longer. Remember this helped our game in 1994. This could be in our best interest because as you can see Nigeria and RSA are already doing that.

  14. I am so pleased of your concern for Local Clubs to have their own sites. That can be best encouraged by you fans by writing to them because sometimes FAZ is misunderstood of being too pushy and with so many pre-conditions. Secondary, some clubs are facing financial constraints and their sponsors may not be too supportive.

Any way, the suggestion will be considered and I will try to encourage the Secretary General.

We have been looking at the issue of regular updates on the FAZ website.

  15. Look there is no need to go begging from others. A well managed football association can raise money for the camping of its national team. You cant be begging other countries, begging your government, begging everyone. This mentality only leads to failure because you will have an excuse mentally even before you try. FAZ needs to prepare the team systematically. Not just hoping for games but planning for them.Sitting down and saying who should we play for good preparations

  16. #15. Chips, RSA
I understand your concern BUT i am of the opinion that your can do better on the your “First round out” attitude.

I am glad you are not part of the team that is going to Ghana 2008. Such attitudes are contegious and epidemic!!!!

  17. Why should the team camp in Germany during winter time, it does not make sense to me cause they will end up playing in-door games (7 Vs 7), which are useless. With draws on friday to consider I propose that Zambia camp in Portugal or Spain. Friendly games Vs the likes of Sudan, Egypt, Morocco, Senegal depending on the draws this friday should be arranged. Turkey, Isreal, Saudi Arabia, Japan, South Korea and China should as well be considered. I have a feeling Sudan will spring a surprise at ACN

  18. #15 Zambia will do better than last time, mind most of the players at AFCON2006 were playing in the games for the first time. My friend experience combined with the best youth players matters. Our National team had been changing a lot the last times we have qualified, look at history, every team needs players who have been in such competitions before, it has not been the trend for us. Zed will go far this team, last time mistakes were made, Kolala instead of Mweene. I will be in Ghana to support

  19. Guys it’s true we have a better team this time. But we need to prepare the team. The boys need to play at least 3 competitive friendly games before the go to Ghana.Guys like M. Sichone,E.Tana, the boys in Sweden need to be assessed in the friendly games.Lets play teams like Ivory Coast,Mali,Sudan and maybe one Magreb country. On Friday at the Afcon 2008 draw officials from different Football Associations will be present this will be the idea time for Faz to arrange friendly games.Come on Faz!

  20. I think # 15 Chips RSA, was saying if we don’t prepare the team enough we will be out in the first round. We all want the team to succeed.

  21. Just camping in Germany won’t be enough. There are still good teams in the southern African region who did not qualify to CAN 2008. why can’t FAZ approach teams like DRC, Zimbabwe, Botwsana etc for friendlies? Even it will require travelling by road, the team will benefit greatly and the technical bench will have enough time to assess the players.

  22. #22 The only players from Europe who should be considered are Moses Sichone and Andrew Sinkala (Germany), Isaac Chansa and Edwin Phiri (Sweden), Jacob Mulenga (France) and Chris Katongo (Denmark)

  23. #25. Iam sure you deliberately left Collins Mbesuma becoz of his seemingly poor performace, of late. Atleast, when compared to the Mbesuma of Yesteryear.

However, i still feel Mbesuma should be part of the team that goes to Ghana. He makes a good bait. He is also capable of banging in the goals too. With him, alot of things are possible.
    Long Live Mbesuma!!!

  24. I agree with #26. Even if Collins is going through a scoring drought, he still has the potential to score and create havoc upfront. He should not be left out completely. Remember what happened in Cape Town, he was tightly marked hence creating more room for Chris to bang in goals.

  25. Justice your list European based players is fine but i agree with Born Rich and RN-Pretoria, Mbesuma has to be in the team.He makes a good bait and he’s a guy that can hold on to the ball. With guys like Koulo Toure and the other Big west African defenders who will be at Afcon 2008 you definitely need a guy of Mbesuma’s stature in the team.Never rule the man out completely he still can score goals i feel he might surprise come Ghana 2008.

  26. Mbesuma is a striker any team would love to have and there is no question about his quality. Remember quality is long lasting whereas form is temporal and I believe Mbesuma will come alright.

We have a good pool of players and we only need to give it a good selection and preparation to do well in any group in Ghana

  27. In the past Zed used to produce 4-5 quality players of the likes U-Car Chitalu, Zoom, Makwanza, Ackim Musenge in the 70s and the 80s we had Charles Musonda, Kalu, Jonston Bwalwa, Makika, Mbasela , Kazika, Effort, Kampabwe Gentile Mulenga. But this time we have only one player Chris Katongo capwa and Mbesuma is finished like Dabwito Nkhoma, Emmanuel Zulu.

  28. #31. Ba Joze
What Mbesuma needs, is for us to tell him that we still believe in him. I mean in his ability to deliver for Zambia. Mbesuma, may not be in his “tip-top” form but he is still an assert and he i capable of delivering when it matters most. Just in case you have forgotten, Mbesuma is the one who scored in the 1-all draw against Chad!!

Today you are talking good about Katongo, i wonder if you will say the same thing about him tomoro if he does not score in a few games.

HERE IS A POSTING FOR YOU. HOPE YOU WILL LEARN THE LESSONS

    ALLARDYCE PRAISE FOR GOAL-DROUGHT ROONEY
    [ Thu, 26th Oct 2006 ]
. . . for the way he is conducting himself during a barren scoring sequence. The England and Manchester United striker, 21, heads into the match against Bolton having failed to find the target in 10 games for country and club. While Allardyce is concerned that Rooney might break his duck on Saturday, he has nothing but praise for the player.

    SOME MORE LEARNING POINTS HERE

McClaren untroubled by Rooney’s goal drought
    2007-10-13 HKT 11:04

Football: England coach Steve McClaren says he’s untroubled by striker Wayne Rooney’s goal drought at international level. Rooney has not scored since Euro 2004 in a competitive game for England and has admitted he’s not shown his best form for his country for two years. However, he will partner Michael Owen against Estonia in today’s Euro 2008 qualifier.

    ANOTHER LESSON FROM HISTORY

    Rooney Frustrated At Goal Drought
(Goal.com) – England coach McClaren admits the player’s current bad moment of form with the national team: “But he remains a great player”.

Rooney’s sending off against Portugal at the World Cup quarter final that marked the end of England’s campaign has inevitably left its mark on the player.

Just ask David Beckham who, after his sending off against Argentina at France ’98, was tormented for months afterwards.

  32. #31. Ba Joze, Here is my point

Rooney ends goal drought in fine style, October 28 2006 at 06:45PM
    By Ian Winrow
Manchester – Wayne Rooney ended his 10-game goal drought in spectacular style with a hat-trick in Manchester United’s comfortable 4-0 victory against Bolton Wanderers which kept Sir Alex Ferguson’s side top of the Premiership table.
Without a goal since the opening game of the season, the England striker’s barren spell has been the subject of much debate but Rooney emphaticall

  33. #31 You can choose to build or destroy. The choice lies entirely up to you. Don’t say i never told you.

Long Live Mbesuma. You have done us proud. We are happy with your achievements. Despite your current “valley experience” we still believe that you can rise to the occassion and deliver for the land of your birth – Zambia. Prove that we are right!!!
    Chipolopolo Iyee!!!

  34. #33 Born Rich

Football is career based on delivering and once you can’t then you are rebelled as a finished player and forgotten. I do believe you remember Jack Chanda how he used to dribble but he never used to score until Ashios Melu replaced him. So Born Rich, football nowdays is based on scoring if you’re a striker. I still think Mbesuma is finished faster than the 35 goal record he has.

  35. #19 Born Rich, I think you did not get the point I was driving at. My point is that having a lot of quality players in a team is not guarantee that a team will perform wonders. Wonders can only be achieved if and when a team prepares adaquately. Even Brazil would suffer at world stage if it does not prepare adequately. Looking at the tentative training programme that the Technical commitee is putting forward to FAZ, the duration of the training is not enough, considering that most of our

  36. so-called profs are not featuring regularly for their clubs, except for Cris, I am yet to hear of Isaac in Sweden, much as I appreciate that AFCON offers a different ball game altogether. ZAmbia has had quality players at the last editions of AFCON and what has been the performance like? I call a spade, a spade. I am not losing hope of Zambia not doing well, if anything, Zambia as always has been an underdog and that is where the team needs to spring a surprise!I have always been optimistic.

  37. Guys which teams do you think Zambia would be grouped with? My guess is as follows:

    Group D
    Ivory coast or Group C
    Zambia Egypt
    Namibia Ivory Coast
    Sudan Zambia
    Namibia

  38. Sorry, I meant this. Group D Ivory Coast, sudan, Namibia and Zambia. Or Group C Egypt, Ivory Cost, Namibia and Zambia.

  39. Mbesuma is a good striker he has scored more goals for Zambia than Katongo although Katongo was the first to go to the national team and he is going to the Africa cup because when selecting players is based current and past not the future form and since mbesuma has been there for zambia before, he will definitely go to Ghana and I do not even know where you start from to say he is finished. What is finished?

Remember that Mbesuma has played for 4 foreign clubs and been top scorer for two.

  40. Mbesuma is a good striker he has scored more goals for Zambia than Katongo although Katongo was the first to go to the national team and he is going to the Africa cup because when selection of players is based on current and past form not the future form and since mbesuma has been there for zambia before, he will definitely go to Ghana and I do not even know where you start from to say he is finished. What is finished?

Mbesuma played very well against South Africa so what is finished?

  41. WE NEED MBESUMA AT AFCON 2008 FULL STOP. How many goals has Jacob Mulenga scored in France recently? Can you also classify him as FINISHED??

  42. Why not wait for Saturday for the draws. They are 16 teams and we see which one. Zambia is capable of beating any team if you they work hard. What I have not liked is the camping in Germany starting from the 28 December. This will not help us because at this time of the year Germans are on holidays starting from Xmas there is not active football. However playing Togo or Nigeria before the CAN2008 is brilliant idea. Born Rich greet Gluco.

  43. #47. Justice, Denmark
I appreciate that, but it also depends on the technics one uses to help these guys “grow up”. Do you know that Rooney was given captainship in some games to help him “grow up”?
That’s how different our collegues think! And they get the results!

  44. Easy # 49 The team will camp/spend time in Togo and Nigeria NOT to play Togo or Nigeria but to acclimatise to the weather which is the same as Ghana. Easy Faz are yet to arrange a friendly game for the National Team.I am sure the working on it,lets give them a benefit of doubt.
Though we don’t have enough time.

  45. Wayne Rooney last scored for England in 2004 but still the English fans believed in him. I the last two games of the Euro qualifiers, he come through and score. We should continue beliving in Mbesuma. As a striker, it is not always possible to score but it is the contribution that the player makes to the team on the day. The negativity that I read from some fans on Mbesuma is ridiculous and unispiring. I am not saying we cannot criticise, but do so with a view to build a player, no to destroy!

  46. #47 Born Rich it is not that I hate Mbesuma as a person, it is his conduct that is a problem and it is something that has put his progress at a stand-still, if you know what I mean. Look at Mwaruwari, the lad is working hard at Pompey. Mbesuma needs to be serious, he is not a child any more. He is a goal getter and as such he has to put his act together before it is too late for his selection will not be based on history but his present form. We need to worry about our players as true zed fans

  47. MBESUMA is not finished. Godfrey Ucar Chitalu was at one time considered finished about 1974 he was left out of the team at the Afric cup of Nations. Later Chitalu regained his form and went on to become the best striker this country has ever had. It was because the fans in Kabwe and Kitwe where he originally came from believed in him………
