The doubleheader junior international friendly series of matches has ended with Zambia Under-17 and 20 teams failing to maintain consistent form in their final matches today against their Malawian opponents.

The Zambia under-20 team lost 1-0 to Malawi a day after beating the latter 4-2 in their opening game while the Under-17 teams drew 1-1 at Nkoloma Stadium in Lusaka.

Atusani Nyondo’s goal early in the second minute of the first half gave Malawi a deserved with after their loss on Saturday.

The Under-17 teams drew 1-1 after Zambia beat their Malawi opponents 4-0 48 hours earlier.

Wedson Nyirenda’s team failed to stamp their authority over their Malawian counterparts who were unlike to go 1-0 down in the first half.

It took the Zambia Under-17 until the 40th minute to break through Malawi’s defence when Zesco United striker John Chingandu slotted in a cross from Lusaka Dynamos winger Tom Bakala.

Malawi restored parity in the 48th minute through Kelvin Mukandawire who blasted in a sublime long-range shot from outside the box pasted Kabwe Warriors goalkeeper Kelvin Musonda.

Zambia and Malawi were using the friendly matches as preparations for their forthcoming participation in the Cosafa Under-17 and Under-20 championship to be held in Namibia and South Africa in December.

  1. There is nothing as an easy group in football these days. Our team has to be in the best of form and take every matches very seriously, like their lives depended on them. We are tired of being second best. And to the Govt and FAZ, please we need at least two stadia for the games.

  2. The group is easy. Firstly, Togo is playing away because it has a ban. Swaziland and Eritrea are not as strong. It is easy we have avoided Ivory Coast, Nigeria and Cameroon. Togo are the weakest seeds. This is an opportunity!!!

  3. Zambian govt needs to wake up!!! England or Brazil will need places to camp b4 the tournament. You in MMD and FAZ are busy sleeping. Namibia and Angola will end up hosting these nations if Zambia does not wake Up!!! People in FAZ are too sleepy so much money can be made here and yet they are busy talking about issues that are not important. We dont even have a stadium three yrs b4 the event. Damn you FAZ and GOVT.

  4. I will say this time and time again FAZ is completely useless. They cant even upgrade their website regularly!! Shame. On Zambia’s group I do not think it is easy but I do think it is favourable.

  5. Its a shame that a “footballing” nation like zed doesn’t have not even one stadium of international standard 43 years after independence. Shame on you KK, FTJ and LPM and of course FAZ…..

  6. Group 11
    Togo
    Zambia
    Eritrea
    Swaziland

Togo need a great lesson. We have to start now and not later. Eriteris is a tough one and may cause upsets if underated. Win all games at home and away take 18 pts. Go Zambia!!!!

  7. This group is ok for Zambia especially that Togo will be playing all their home matches away from home due to crowd trouble whch characterised the last AFCON 2008 game btn Togo and Mali in Lome. This will be advantageous to us. Swaziland will be walk over. I dont know much about Eritrea. But these are unknowns in African soocer. As we have said adequate preparation is very important. In addition, govt and faz should sort out the stadium issue so that we dont play our home games outside of Zambia

  8. All matches should be taken very seriously because there are no weak teams in football nowdays. Its the so seemingly small teams that frustrate the so called “big teams” in the qualifiers like this one and make it very difficult for the favourites to qualify. Zambia should appraoch all the matches from this perspective.

  9. It all starts with a good coach and good preps.Stadia will not solve our problems for now, as we’ll not have them anyway apart wit Chinese help. And yes .. shame to FAZ, GRZ and presidents we’v had. What about gettin Kalu back to the bench and phiri+lwandamina as asists. Then draw up a good prep program for 2010, not Ghana 08, we are already late.Get the young boys under 20’s into the current senior team for all the preps (3yrs), wow .. I can see us playing Italy in
    2nd rnd.Oh .. dreaming as usual

  10. This is not the final qualifying group. Zambia and Togo are likely to get through to the next round from this group and that is the one that will be crucial. However we have enough time to prepare. That is time to get a QUALIFIED coach and get a business plan working for Chipolopolo’s goal of reaching the 2010 finals. If we fail then we should just admit we are failures.
