Be calm, Choma soccer fans advised

Share

Choma District Commissioner Mungoni Simulilika has appealed for calm among soccer fans in the area who on Tuesday took to the streets.

They were demonstrating against a move by the Zambia National Service command to relocate Choma based Green Eagles Football team to Kabwe following the team’s elevation to FAZ premier league.

Mr Simulilika told ZANIS in Choma that there was no need for the fans to resort to further demonstrations as their petition was receiving appropriate attention.

He said the soccer fans must remain calm and await the response of higher authorities who are handling the matter.

Some residents including prominent businessmen and civic leaders marched through Choma town centre and staged a peaceful demonstration demanding that government intervenes and orders ZNS command to rescind its decision to move Green Eagles football team to Kabwe.

  1. Yaba its tricky though it might be that they have more facilities which the team can use, especially if we are talking about stadium wise.In Kabwe there is a stadium which is just roting a long time, this is the stadium which was used by Kabwe united(ZCCM) and later Prison Leopards but I dont know what went wrong there, but the stadium is okey and be renovated back to the standereds its just that its in Kabwe,if it was in Lusaka it would be a different story.
Never the less the resident saporters have the right to demonstrate, they have saported the team throughout and have seen the ups and downs with it,they just cant grabe it away from them na na NO.

  2. I support the action taken by Choma residents. These fans have been supporting Green Eagles for years with the aim of seeing their team brushing shoulders with top flight clubs in Zambia. The dream has come true and ZNS decides to move the team to Kabwe. The fans feel cheated and betrayed. Pliz ZNS rescind that decision for the sake of soccer loving Chomians.

  3. ZNS must not take the people of Choma for granted. They supported Green Eagles all the way until where they have reached now. How can they wake up today and decide to move the team to Kabwe.? What is the reason behind this kind of thiniing. Green Eagles is not like some old copperbelt teams that have support almost accros the country. They will move to Kabwe and will find themselves playing to empty stadia with only supports for their oppenents. It does not make any slight sense at all. The country needs soccer to develop and with the team in Choma more young boys will get exposed and get inspired to play football.

  4. But sure mu Zambia mwaliba problem with our leaders iikulu sana! How can surely a Commander make such a decision? Football goes with fans and that fans can make or break a team. When is southern province going to develop if such a chance of people watching KCM league is not there. Let us not concetrate on developing soccer on Mid lands & copperbelt only but also other parts of the country as well.In fact some teams on the copperbelt like big names ” Nkana & Might” are poorly sponsored and their performance is not as it used to be.Therefore, if other teams in other provinces are coming up, that is a plus for the nation.Mr Commander consult before you make decisions otherwise we will judge you

  5. or rather your adminstration qualities from this all issue. To the people of Choma soldier on with ichivivu otherwise and make sure they give you what you deserve as you made the team qualify!

  6. ithink somehow we need to look at the availability of facilities. Is there any stadium fit for premier league games in Choma? if not then its a tricky situation.

  7. It’s really amaxing to see that we have commanders in zambia without brains is decision is totally rubbish how can a commander think in that way moreover has he got the right to do that for the pipo of choma?naseka maningi mudala uyo ali nobututu sana chipuba in shot!congrats to ZNS i didn’t know they are now in the premier league much respect for the club but bane i mean the soocer funs mukose teti bamipoke team bafwile balejokinga big time anso futi!

  8. #6 Zambia 1, ask yourself how the team managed to go into the Premier league. Where they playing their games from Kabwe? I believe they can make it even in Choma. Besides, thats where their true fans are!

  9. #8 you are very right….How did they make to the premier league. I see no reason to relocate the team. Its just a way of denying the fans their opportunity to see big teams in the area. When we talk about development of rural areas…it is simply that every development should be left to grow locally. This is very strange…. I realy support the fans…

  10. The HQ Command is very wrong to relocte the team. Football comprises a lot of stake holders namely players, supporters, officials and sponsors. The first two are what makes a team. The sponsors fuel the engine to run. This decision was to be taken when the team was in its infancy and amateur. Not when it has built a home and lifetime supporters you want to relocate. That shows that the HQ command does not know how to manage its projects. They are novices and do not appreciate the other stakeholders in the project. They are into themselves and do not care what happens to the team in a new area with no support. The command should be removed from HQ and be given farms to run. They belong there.

  11. i think if the choma pipo do some home work , they can sue the zns boss , they have a good case, and if they win than zns should give the stadium a facelift

  12. I find the decision by ZNS very foolish, its like being given a child to look after when the child has made it then the real parents show up and want to take the child away, these people have been loyal fans of this club, they contributed players from their community to help this side go into the premier league, now ZNS want to move the club, what are there reasons anyway? Stupid ZNS, talking of infratructure, at some point there used to be a team called Choma United, obviously they had a stadium, there used to be Zamcoal Diggers, they had a stadium, so what is wrong with Eagles renovating that infrastructure and n Zambia even Nkana Stadium, Arthur Davies do not meet international stands

  13. Such decisions are behind the falling soccer standards in our nation. In Kabwe there are over 4 big teams already. we need to take the game to other places also if we are to have a bigger population of players to choose from.
With a premier team in choma this will give interest to young boys in that area to take up soccer. ZAMBIA KAYAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA!!!!!!!!!!!1111111111

  14. In my thinking, it seems the commander was not just looking at denying the supporters what they have built but that, can choma provide the acceptable hotels, football pitches and etc for the opponents? In terms of travel time, it will always be quite a discomforting trip from e.g CB to Choma. Does ZNS have to funds to come up with a good Stadium in Choma that can increase revenue thru gate takings?

  15. Anonymous No. 15….tawakwata amano! how did they manage to accomodate the teams rom division 1 b4 qualifying for the premier? or u r saying premier league teams are so special that they cant use the same facilities other teams in division one used?…Think bro.

  16. how can you tranplant a seed which has just sprouted, and expect it to survive before it matures in a different climate possibly with no supporters except you and your family? mr commander if you are commander enough concentrate on your army we need you for what you were employed for, dont loose track.

  17. give respect to people of Choma. This club is not a personal property, if one is not happy about the infrstracture please improve it now. Someone is thinking of making big money in Kabwe, you must be a poor business planner to take your club to Kabwe. what has Kabwe got? it will be white elephnat to take the team away from Choma.

  18. There is no good reason for ZNS Commander to relocate Green Eagles to Kabwe. I support the residents of Choma to do what it takes to keep the team in the south. Why are the talking about facilities? They played 1st Divison games in Choma, no one had a problem with that. ZNS Commander, stop being big headed and listen to the people and supportters of Green Eagles football club for once.

  19. I think it is not a good idea moving ZNS to Kabwe. Choma people need entertainment to stay away from trouble. They have a stadium in choma which can be worked on. You can`t just relocate the team like the way people do with the cows. The team was groomed in Choma with the help of the residents. It`s part of corruption relocating the team.
