Kalaba Was Not Factor In Zesco Utd Loss

Share

Wedson Nyirenda has disclosed that midfielder Rainford Kalaba’s absence was not a factor in Zesco 2-0 away defeat to Al Hilal on Sunday in the two teams Caf Africa Champions League game.

The Zesco coach said Kalaba was never part of the game plan and that his team just conceded silly goals against an Al Hilal team he said wasn’t too highly rated.

Kalaba has been an influential figure for Zesco over the last 15 months but and inspired the team to its first ever Faz Premier League title last season.

He missed the game in Sudan due to injury and also limped off in Zesco’s last two games against Roan United in the league and URA of Uganda in the preliminary stage return home leg of the Caf Champions League.

Kalaba is also expected to leave for Portugal shortly to negotiations over a potential transfer with Superliga team Sporting Braga.

Zesco meanwhile are due back in the country tomorrow Tuesday at 11:00.

They will host Al Hilal in the final return leg on April 5 in Ndola and must score three unanswered goals to make a dramatic qualification to the second round.

  1. #4 why is that, may you please explain to people like me here overseas in the States. What makes the players not useful season after season? Thanks

  2. I said it last time that Zambian clubs will go no where once they start facing north african or west african clubs. Even buffaloes stuttered against highlanders of zimbabwe to a 1 all draw at home. Shame. There is a lot to be done in local football.

  3. Thats why you need the leadership of kalusha to help build the game as it used to be in his youthful time. However durfur boys desreve the win becoz they capitalised on two mistakes by the defence and goal matters not how well you play.

  4. Why is wedson refusing to accept that Ka-Kalaba is an influencial player in his team….see how many times the Chap has help or saved zesco`s A**.Lets face facts and accept realities about the coaching standards here in Zambia…they realy are Bad!!!!

  5. #8…Ba Heptor what are trying to say, what could have kalaba done in that match in football we dont depend on one person.

  6. Zesco should solve first the power black out problem. Now this problem has extended to their team. The team will also continue having blackouts.

  7. As we all know that football means working as a team and not as an individual but its important sometimes in life to praise or give positive feedback when somebody is doing fine to motivate them to do even better than before, as studies says a well motivated student performs well than a less motivated one. What happened to Katongo was really good and i guess it will motivate him, they worked as a team but an outstanding player was recognised. There is a good way of giving advise or negative feedback in such a way not to reduce somebody to 0 or demotivate them. Thanx.

  8. Zesco is a one man show. Rainford is the pillar of Zesco. He may have not been able to win it against the Al Hilal but he certainly would have made a huge difference. Zesco won the league because he was both the season’s best player and top scorer, and all that from the midfield. Very few mid fielders can make it to such heights. Only the likes of Cristiano and Ricardo Kaka can attain such heights.

    Give credit where its due.

  9. #1, I don’t think Kalaba is going for trials. I believe the team (Benfica) has already decided to sign him.

Secondly, I don’t understand Coach Nyirenda’s comment. Football is indeed a team sport, but individual players contribute in different ways. If he is non-factor, why is he still with ZESCO? This sounds all too painfully familiar. Coach Kaumba said the same thing after omitting Kalaba and Clifford Mulenda for the Ivory Coast game!
