Levy’s body to be taken to all provincial capitals before burial.

Share

Cabinet has extended the period of mourning for the late President of Zambia, Levy Mwanawasa from the initial seven days to 21 days.

This is to facilitate a smooth transportation of the body from Paris to Lusaka, Zambia and the taking of the body to all provincial headquarters to nine provinces before burial takes place.

Vice President, Rupiah Banda announced the funeral arrangements this evening in a statement posted on the State House website.

Mr. Banda said the decision was arrived at after a Special Cabinet meeting held at Government House in Lusaka today.

He said the burial has been slated for September 3rd, 2008, which would have been the late Dr. Mwanawasa’s 60th birthday.

“I wish to advise the nation that upon the body’s arrival at Lusaka International Airport, there will be a Guard of Honour and a Presidential Salute. The body will thereafter be transported to Mulungushi International Conference Centre where it will lie-in-state,” he said.

Mr. Banda further announced that between Monday, August 25th and Friday, August 29th 2008, the body will be taken to provincial capitals.

He said the body would be brought back to Lusaka on August 29th from which date it will lie-in-state and MICC until 2nd September, 2008 when it would be taken to lie-in-state at State House until burial ceremony on Wednesday, September 3rd, 2008.

“Close relatives, of the first family will gather at the residence in State House. Members of the public will gather at the Lusaka Show Grounds during the period of mourning,” he said.

Mr. Banda said those wishing to pay their last respects to the late President would do so at the Mulungushi International Conference Centre and in the provinces.

Dr. Mwanawasa died at Percy Military Hospital in Paris France, 15 days before he could turn 60 years of age.

He fell ill on June 29, this year while attending an African Union (AU) heads of state and government summit in Egypt.

The late President was elected as Zambia’s third republican President in December 2001 under the Movement for Multiparty Democracy (MMD) ticket and re-elected in 2006 for the second five year term of office.

He leaves behind a wife, Maureen and six children.

  1. All Provincial HQ, are you crazy! is that a family decision or cabinet decision, is this what LPM has left us with? The same cabinet that gave themselves hefy allowances in his absence!!

  2. 21 days makes sense. Seven days was not befitting for a man of Levy’s calibre. I still don’t understand why it’s taking so long to bring the body home.

  3. Amumuleke munene alyokehe. Taking the body to all the 9 Prov HQ for what? Dont you know that one moth mourning + the two months in sickness is big tourchure for Moureen and the Family. Ba RB mwayamba Nzeru zo chita plunder our resources manje. Cant we just burry and then forge ahead.

  4. Ala bushe kwaliba.? Are these people mad or what?….its an expensive venture and LPM needs to be put to rest asap with due respect…Another bad decision from cabinet….how can you have national mourning for 21 days and yet you have only three months to prepare to elect a new president….I PROTEST…please let our president rest in peace instead of “country trotting” him all around the provinces…

  5. It is admirable tht Cabinet has decided to send his body across the country. He was Zambia’s president, all the people need to pay their last respects. Well done cabinet and continue keeping the nation informed on the preparations.

I salute my fellow country men and women for the exemplary conduct thus far. We are trully showing Africa the way.

    God bless mother Zambia.

  6. what logistical problems are there to move the body from France?? And yes, 21 days of national mourning befits the sitting presidents death. And about burial, where will he be buried? state house grounds or where???

  7. Don-chi-chi these MMD guys are not ready they are strategically buying time hoping time will heal their problems. Nika gimik aka.

  8. He will be paraded in the 9 provinces just because they want to bury him on his birthday? if he had died in january we would have waited 9 months for september to come, 9 months of national mourning?

  9. Okaaaaaaaaaay! Here we go! Someone should be saying 21 days instead of 7 days of national mourning coz we cant have the body going round the country and there is no national mourning; it dont make sense. Now we see that when we blog there is actually some influence as 21 days is what we have been talking about along on this site.

  10. Did they know that this man was goin to die for them to say that this years budget will cater for the funeral expenses? And if yes how much was allocated to LPMs funeral? Those who follow paliament news pliz update me.

  11. That idea is rediculas!!, if i were Maureen i wasnt going to allow this to happen, or even the late mwanawasa himself wasnt going to allow it, why take the body to all provinces when it can be put in one place and those who really want to pay their last respect should follow it up, let the big man rest in peace,he already did his work, he visited all those provinces and now its his turn to rest and instead be visited. Besides, the government will spend too much many and the same cabinet will be the ones to benefit by giving themselves allowances in the name of escorting the body, wake up people of Zambia, let our dear beloved presidents’ soul rest in peace- concerned zambian

  12. Oh and cheers for LT for bringing back the sensible site else one would have been looking for a job as a motuary attendant coz they got fired from a job as a website designer

  13. is that the president to set ? Parading a corpse all round zambia ?. As much as i repect PLM and love him, he was not a king. This is just a way for cabinet to hoodwink zambia and spend more money. That is just too long. Lets get back to work bane. Is cabinet trying to trumatize the populance. The man is gone. Period. Like it is the lenin days in the sovet union.
    Another bad descision.

  14. As a head of state, pipo should follow LPM and not him following them.all those that want to pay their respects should travel to lusaka and do so.And we wonder why our economy can’t move forward?it is because of such senseless expenditure.Do these people think?whoever came up with this idea does not deserve to be in decision making positions.i think 7days national mourning was alright because the political parties need to campaign and people need to register as voters. Zambians need to learn that this is the 21st centuary and 15th centuart mentality is out.move with the times pipo. ala!

  15. This shows what a useless cabinet we have…thats the more reason they should go!!!! KUYA BEBELE!!!!…I am still in a state of shock by their type of thinking….GOD HELP US!!!

  16. What utter nonsense!
Parading the body in all provincial capitals indeed!
Wasting more money and time, and for what?
PLEASE, let the late rest in peace!
Burry the body immediately, so the country can move on!!

  17. Please bury this man.Since when was a chief taken round his village after he died? These guys are crazy. After cheating us for two months that he was stable and recovering now they want to burden us with provincial tours.Maureen please dont allow this circus. They want to put LPM in a zoo.

  18. We could have buried say three days after body arrives from France, and continued mourning for 21 days. But taking the body all over the country is indeed a creepy idea.

  19. #20 i presume you do not even know time neither do you understand money.Time in real sense my freind is the definition of what you have lived but not what is ahead of you. When Mwanawasa is put to rest we shall look back and ask ourselves did we do the right thing for a good president and money dear beloved is the product of confusion and it should not be the basis of our reasoning. You are in a harry to where?to what destination?what is it that you want to do that necessitate your hurriedness? Will the money which will be spent if reserved make you developed?will time if preserved make you progress now?

  20. this is a sheer waste of resources…imagine how much its gonna take to take the body to all those provinces…not to mention the allowances that will accrue to the many government officials travelling on ‘government duty’! levy is dead….we mourn him, but lets move on. besides, its very unfair to his family, whcih has been through too much already. this is probably another ploy by the ruling party to win sympathy from the masses for the upcoming election!!!

  21. #20 Anonymous, sometimes you contribute sence sometimes trash, who can you honor if you cant honor your own?
He is a sitting president please.Do you know how Kamuzu was burreid even after he had already left office?
    Be sensible.

  22. #20 Anonymous please.Mwanawasa was a republican president. Its not about the family. He was no longer an individual he was an institution. The president with executive powers is not answerable to the family. Why dont you research before you persomnalise your rational thinking.

  23. what a stupid decision, were on earth has such a thing happened,What sort of ministers do we have in this country don’t exaggerate just bury the Man pliz!!!!!!

  24. I for one would not want my dead body to be paraded everywhere. Can someone stop this madness. Why not just Lusaka and then a special burial at a specified presidential plot?

  25. MMD don`t use the body of our late president as a campaign too. Please remember that you are punishing the Mwanawasa`s family. Put him to rest the go out on your own compaigning. Besides its will be very costly and if you wanted people from all provinces tell the Provincial Ministers to send even 200 representatives from each province.

You big guys every movement you make is costly coz you talk of allowances, fuel accom, etc.Guys lets be careful coz ba RB and the group can groung zed financialy ine natina.

  26. This is absurd! I know we came to like LPM for his dedication to good governance. He did not become a god. What a waste of resources, or is LPM’s body to be used as a pychological campaign ‘tool’. Who is trying to gain political capital from this stupid idea.

  27. Lets hope these guys will not think of taking the body of our late president to all SADC countries coz balefimwena pama allowances.

  28. #28 Shut up! get real man,# 20 is more reasonable than your dirty crap ideal’s there are national interests at hand hear. Has much as we loved LPM it’s time he was put to rest as soon as possible you don’t understand politics these guys ain’t doing it in good will it’s a gimmick.Work up people.

  29. This is the best decision has made.H.E was the People’s President. He was connected with them and must be viewed by the same people. For the first time a seating president has died in office.A tradition and link with the people’s presidency is receiving its symbolicalic appreciation.

Thank you very much for honoring our president like this.

  30. Why are they torturing the chitumbi after going through pain before death.
Anyway, let them know that, it is not all provinces which voted mwanawasa, spare those from these seemly Satanic decisions.
Let LPM rest in peace within the stipulated reasonable time without risking maybe disaster at transportation.. Kuti yapona indenke on transporting tamwishibe.

  31. There will be body viewing in all the nine provinces? What a crazy idea, and who mooted it anyway? The family has been through enough grief and surely would like to bury their beloved one, so do most Zambians.RB show some backbone please.

  32. To be concerned about money as we give the people an opportunity to pay their last respect to their President is lack of knowledge about Government systems. He kept us in peace and has left us an era of prospering as a country.Multititudes of patriotic citizens and friends have the opportunity to pump in millions to supplement and GRZ constrains. If we don’t do it for our president, who are we going to do it for? Those who don’t approve this must appreciate diversity and take a break from it because we are here to give the people a chance to mourn their President.

  33. Nine provinces? Dangerous idea, let them take extra good care. We don’t want an accident that will cause more pain and sorrow. Icalo nachibipa shino nshiku.

  34. I would back what ever the family and the RB agree on Levy’s funeral so long it does not adversly affect other national interests. Am sure this applies to this decision. Godbless Zambia and her people.

  35. #40 prag. Its not so much about money, but remember in sickness there was always a reference to what is “zambian”, or “un-Zambian”, culturally; so now is this really Zambian? ukwensha icitumbi all over, or is it not simply about pulling a fast one on the opposition.Everything has been well, but such tricky exagerations will breed uneasiness. And anyone who critiques the idea, will be told its “unZambian”. Only the family can have a big say on this one now.

  36. Pragmatis, if you are being paid to moot this kind of nonsense Uko kwamene.Revise your facts. We don’t want to start criticizing levy in his death of what he did and not do. Let the man be put to rest, He has done his rounds and it is time to return to earth.
Dont try to make political capital or make traveling allowance of the dead. levy is dead and we shall miss him but not in all ways. I stop here.,,Levy was a good president..I have used good, and dont ask me..because his chapter is done.
Why make decision which will divide the country and send pipo to have negatives of the dead

  37. Country if sorrow can drive you to be plunders then better you resign. Taking the body across the country is a very big strain of resources. I feel its important that let his body be at Mulungushi for that time and later bury. Let us look for the future that every penny counts. Let us spend reasonably having t in mind that there are other sectors that are left unattended to due to the selfish politicians. If its part of campaign strategy to get a sympath vote go ahead.

  38. PLEASE LETS ALL BE REASONABLE,21 DAYS OF NATIONAL MOURNING IS OKEY,FOR A MAN HIS CALIBRE,BUT BODY VIEWING IN ALL THE NINE PROVINCES IS ABSURD!!THAT MUCH WE ALL KNOW,WE PRAYED FOR HIM WHEN HE WAS SICK,IT WAS GOD’S TIME AND THE ALMIGHTY TOOK HIM AWAY,TAX PAYERS’S MONEY WAS SPENT ON HOTEL BILLS,MEDICAL EXPENSES,WHICH WAS NOT BAD,CONSIDERING THAT HE WAS OUR BELOVED PRESIDENT,TAKING THE BODY TO ALL NINE PROVINCES IS NOT OKEY,THAT IS TAXPAYERS MONEY THAT WILL BE USED,REMEMBER,WE PAY A LOT OF TAX,YOU ARE THE SAME PEOPLE WHO COMPLAIN THAT TAX IS TOO HIGH,HOPE YOU SEE WHERE YOUR MONEY IS GOING,LET OUR BELOVED LEVY REST,LET US INSTEAD BUILD MORE HOSPITALS FOR THE POOR WHO CANT AFFORD TO GO TO FRANCE!

  39. This looks like Maureen’s confused decisions. Burial in Show grounds, dead provincial tour etc. Why not open a heroes Park to bury Heroes. We already have independence stadium which by burial of Former president may make more sense to our Soccer heroes. Show ground is prime Land. What will stop the next dead president to decide to be buried in statehouse…or right in Cairo road.

  40. HK # 44,
Your dissent is very much democratic just as the overwhelming people’s call to pay last respect to their President is democratic in all province.LPM was a people’s President and you cannot deny them the opportunity to view his body.If it is wrong people will not show up after requesting it.But ask your siblings to follow the coverage on TV or buy a video for yourself.Thousands will show up because they have ask for it.The death of a seating President cannot be like that of your and mine.Lets give the people a chance.

  41. Ladies and gentlemen, as much as we appreciate what LPM has done for the Nation, let us not torture his body to that extent. This is inhuman on the part of the Govt to also torture his family and maureen! Did they ask the family, especially Maureen to that effect? This is one of the most stupid ideas to have once again come out of MMD. LPM needs to be honoured by setting up a nice Presidential burial site which people can visit at will with the inscriptions of his acheivments over his life.

Just a question: What if something bad happens during the parading of his body? Mind you, we are not GOD, and anything is possible! May GOD bless my country and thanks to you people for being patient!

  42. HK,
Again you are picking things up in haste.Who said the body is being buried at the show grounds. What i know of basing on what one of our fellow activists on CC’s page, unless they change, LPM is being put to rest in Palabana, East of Lusaka.

  43. Pragmatist,

You see how life is? Nobody knows what tommorow will bring. See what has happened now, it is people like you that have taken this man to the grave. You have been campaigning tirelessly for the late LPM(MHSRIP) when many people advised you to tell the late man to slow down or even retire to save his life because of his health since you claimed to be close to him. You have been spin doctoring for the man even when it was not needed. It is crooks like you that have taken this man away from his family and relatives. I hope that you will get back to reality and change to perhaps save your self this time!
We should learn to be humble and fair at all times even in politics.

  44. awe bane natwishiba ba LPM kaba tushe muchibote.but the 1st family should rest imwe.almost 2 months of nursing then provincial tours. i think its too much.

  45. LPM was the last to command MMD in power! These guys are finished now as they can not read between the lines. They are very greedy chaps and will do everything possible to be in power.Thise time around, they can not pull a fast one, “mark my words”. They decided to increase their perks because deep down, they know that the last stroke of the Camels back has been broken – in this sense, the departure of LPM. All the increments were about, a final calculation of their gratuity after leaving office, and now it has backfired.

  46. I think most people are concerned with the resources which will be utlized during these 9 “tours” and the mind set which may ‘engulf’ Zambians during this mourning period (ie being non-productive at the expenses of country’s economy which LPM was working hard to mend). I trust our leaders and Levy’s family to make the most appropriate decision for the country, which LPM loved so much and died for. Therefore, I would love to believe that their decision is in the best interest of the entire country. Godbless Zambia and her people.

  47. Pragmatist..your family tree is confused.. it is all over the world news Levy to be interred in a show ground mausoleum which is being built..Are u buying time to complete it by shipping him across the country.

  48. “He who treads softly goes very far. We do not have to cheat in order to WIN, as there’s no pillow as soft as a clear conscience mind”. If these people really loved LPM, why did they against his initial disapproval of salary increments? This is pure cheating, a Cameleon and/or a green snake in the green Grass! SHAME ON THEM ALL.

  49. I propose, instead of taking his body to all the 9 provincial centres it be taken to 6 only. Southern, Lusaka and C/belt should be left out becouse they did not vote for him

  50. With the little wisdom they have, they want to use the body of LPM in campaigning! I can imagine them delivering speeches like let’s build on what LPM did, as they continue torturing and parading an INNOCENT BODY. Yabaa! I think, it’s high time creative and brainstorming minds came up to rise to this accassion.

I miss my beloved Country and it’s well represented. Fellow Zambians, read the writings on the white wall for the sake of our Country!

  51. Does ZAF have any plane in a condition to go to all provincial capitals? Uuuum. Another tragedy waiting to happen?

  52. For your information Rupiah Banda was born in Zimbabwe. There is a constitutional issue which need to be scrutinized before he qualifies to act as President or elected to be president This time we Zambians have to avoid Kafupi and Kaunda scandals.
As soon as LPM is buried, Rupiah Banda will be be revealed.
Is he LUPIYA or RUPIAH. R syllable..heheheheh..We have issues.

  53. realy i think all this is unneccessary!!!! why use up all that money??? ofcourse we have to pay respect to our president, but u cant tell me they planned his death in this years budget!!!

  54. #59, Zambian Minister, As Defence Minister, I can confirm that we have made arrangements to borrow a reliable plane from the Zimbabwe Air Force to use in taking the body to the provinces. After all, LPM and old Bob across the Zambezi were inseperable buddies.

  55. Ifthe body can be taken to Ndola, it can also be taken to Kitwe,Chingola etc.Take it to all districts kabali amaafu, amamillion namukwata.

  56. # 51,
That reveals it all that you have missed it altogether about public office leadership. To serve the people one gives up his personal life foregoing costs, fears or shortcoming.Even the man you have been campaigning to is not imortal nor immune to misfortune such as natural death, assassination, coup, accident or anything you think he is immune to God forbid. If you live in and with fear, you are not called to service. Look at the Military frontline i hope you served before.Combatants are deployed knowing very well of the survival probabilities. Not all in company come back the same no matter how advanced in hardware and skills your outfit is (USA wars case in point). We’re proud with LPM.

  57. Since the president is dead. Let Parliament dissolve itself to pave way for General Elections. The Acting VP is lame duck. He cant dissolve parliament, he cant fire anyone appointed by the dead. He can only call bye elections of the president within 90 days..of which the terms of tenure is not clear. If it is for complete 5 years then his term is out of synch with Parliament by itself which would force the an under tenure for th Presido ..hahahahahahahahahaha.
This is a messy. RB, MMD VWA.. We need a better constitution for Our nation . This is a big risk and the fools want to waste time parading LPM . Give us a break, give the man the burial and honour him with monuments if u want.

  58. Look at Sata with a serious heart break down, yet you his surrogates are pushing him in at a ponderous in magnitide risky level by going through what is to be one of Zambia’s most intensive and expensive countrywide campaign trail under heavy rains. You know that some places when stuck on canals for days you have no mechanics to rescue him or deliver dedical care yet you are counting. What i mean is that falling sick does not put one out of usefulness unless proved physicians tips you so if you are the principal to the employee.

  59. Looks like i will come back and blog in 19 days…a day before burial and after just to wind up LPM. Once again dont really give a hoot about him-just my two cents

  60. Billian idea Cabinet. Taking him to all Provincial HQs is the best you guys can repay LPM and the pipo of Zed. I know that the 1st family will not accompany the body during this tour, thats for sure. MYSRIP LPM

  61. HK # 65,
We fervently pray for you like any other parent wishing to have a decent child out of adolescence.I pray that you may transition in behavior from the wrong side of self conduct you are.Its like you are caught up in ventiful vitriolic lingo of *****s, fools and such obscenities. Its a sign of a dysfunctional background which you can override out of choice.Hope you are contemplating moving beyond bloggingstints. Then you gatta change and mature.Insults don’t build a tangible platform or opportunities.Self introspection & joining the civilized has dividends.

  62. Oh great Levys going on tour how wonderful. How is this suppose to help anyone?? Damn this country no wonder I left. You have to remeber no man is bigger than the country. He offered his services to the country he knew the stress involved yet he still choose to be elected. So I dont see why we should have to send him everywhere. He did his job and its time for him to ret so we can quickly move on elect a new presedent and continue on the road to prosperity.

  63. My heartfelt condolences to the Mwanawasa family for such an untimely loss.Zambia has lost a son who tried to bring sanity in public office.
My prayer is that the peace of God may rest on our blessed nation and that the Lord help us in electing a person of integrity and vision to take over the reigns of power.
LEVY PATRICK MWANAWASA,may your soul rest in eternal peace.

  64. Touring the country in a casket does not make sense. Prolonging his burial to 21 days is long enough stress to the family and nation. We can continue morning our president even after he is buried. Why trouble him touring the nation as if he will address us. Guys be reasonable and cost conscious.

  65. The truth is that Levy will be deeply missed. It’s a loss we can never replace. But the moving of his body through the provinces is a stupid move. Who ever thought of it must know it’s stupid. It will not achieve anything. I have never heard of it in any country, and it seems our cabinet does come up with crazy stupid ideas.
Ask yourselves what you want to achieve by this move.

  66. I am shocked how some of you Zambians think about the death of your president. Please mourn your president in a decent manner, infact it’s time to celebrate a hero’s life and you will never have this chance again in your life to give him the last respect. He is gone and give him his due respect once and for all. He served the country with all his energy and put it in your mind that he even got sick while on duty serving you people and all you think about is money. Why the hurry to send him away? My condolences to the bereaved family and to the whole Zambian nation. May his soul rest in eternal peace.

  67. After all the accolades that LPM has been paid about how much he did to turn the Zambian economy around, do you really think that this is what he’d really want.Abanensu in other countries when honouring their dead they try to remember their loved ones by what they stood by. Do you people honestly think this is what LPM would have wanted. I don’t think so.

  69. Eyo beta ati ama primitive politics aya. Now you are saying ati he did so much, so we should honour him by going round the 9 provinces? So are you telling me now that each time one of us loses a parent (who obviously did much more, my mother spent sleepness nights by my bedside when I was sick in hospital and my father would go without new shoes because I needed school fees) we’ll be taking their corpses on tour as an honour. this is just symbolic and has nothing to do with honouring LPM. Like Obama says, not wearing a flagpin does not make him any less patriotic. It’s what he feels inside. What do you feel when think of LPM?

  70. Iwe shocked malawian #77..What right do you have have to talk about our thinking capabilities..the best you could have done is to send your heart felt condolences, period!..and not to go further and comment on way things should be handled…the best you can do is watch and learn. After all what Zambia does Malawi copies..eg Third term bid, fight against corruption..Pasopo!

  71. Is LPM the only president to die? not at all, did the americans parade JFK in all the states before burial? its pipo like pragmatist who want each and every hard earned coin from the sales of copper to go into his never full pocket. It just shows how shallow minded these political menances are.
Why not just let it lie in state at state house or MICC for convinience? look at the costs tied with moving from one provincial HQ to another one. yet you say he was the peoples president? who says he wasnt? ala twalasebana nakabili pantu there was a time a dead body got involved in an accident along kitwe-chingola road in the late 80’s

  72. iwe chi #82, the malawain #77 has some sense in what he is saying…..lets mourn our presudent in a respectable way….not ma rubbish yamene mwamba okamba…..have sense in that big head of yours chimwayiche

  73. Opportunity to CAMPAIGN,CAMPAIGN,CAMPAIGN using a copse. Shame on you MMD.Levy is gone. Can you for once think for yourselves and not use a dead man for your selfish benefits. Its well known he was a one man machinery, now this? Not even the POPE was paraded in all places. We can bury him after 7 days and continue with the mourning for another 14 days. As for Maureen and the kids, they will be jet lagged to start provincial tours esp after nursing for almost 2 months.
Mulongoti, bwendo nshi wingilemo kanshi???? ni Zzzzz chaba shani?

  74. I think it makes no sense in parading the presidents body around all 9 provinces. What is the purpose of that? Does the first lady have any say in this matter? Please people of Zed stop this rubbish and let the man rest in peace.

  75. LPM was’nt a star – Zambia’s economic growth has all been fuelled by China’s insatiable demand for commodities and once again we have no plan for economic growth in the absence of copper. The current leadership has even less vision so much that they want to send LPM’s corpse around the country in the scorching heat of a planes cargo section. All efforts at making his body presentable will be melted away. Needless to say it is a dumb and expensive idea. RP will be happy to use LPM’s corpse as a campaign tool and for sure govt machinery is at his disposal. Let’s put our president to rest asap but there is no need for 21 days of mourning – Ekwebati ama Zambians bonse taba bomba?

  76. That sounds good though we have to know that those guys are buying time as they want to reach the voters eh.

  77. I hope the casket will not be opened in all these provinces, exposing the presidents embalmed body to bacteria from all those sweaty wailing MMD cadres and the rest.

If they make that mistake, the body will rot, God forbid and they will be forced to stop the provincial tours.

  78. There are so many way sof mourning our beloved pres, but taking the body cross country, it’s really an oversight, lets not forget that life goes on. We are a country in recovery, let us be realistic!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Zambia is still there under the sun.

  79. #77 Shocked Malawian, what are you shocked about? let the Zambians express themselves in whatever way they want.

Just because the majority say Levy was a good president, does not mean that it’s a consensus.

And when it comes to mourning….the body can be burried while people continue to mourn. What do you mean “in a hurry sending him away.”

Keeping the body around does not make any difference. The fact is that the man is dead period. WE are not Nigerians who can keep a corpse for a year, while raising money to give a person a “deserved” funeral.

  80. MHSRIP. he deserves a fitting funeral being the first Zambian Head of State to pass on. I hope cabinet has found a good location for the burial site for our Presidents, my concern is,whatever plane they use, should not be ZAF, otherwise we will end up having to bury more people. Is Zambia Breweries going to lower the cost of beer/shake shake during this time? I am asking since, it is tradition to drink pama lilo. But i feel for the family, the man should be put to rest instead of having his body moved from one place to another, again it gives people an opportunity to see him..dead..creepy..for we all knew what he looked like.

  81. Better they burial him and the mourning continues. Pipo parading the body in ALL 9 provinces is taking things a little tooooooooooooo far naimwe. What honour are you talking about? The family has been through alot in that 2 months he was down, nomba mubikipo na parading sure?

  82. Am surprised by what some apes on this site are saying. Whats wrong in taking the body to all provincial centres. This is zambia blood fools and these pipo also deserve to give their last respects. Lusaka cannot just handle the flow of human traffiC if the body was to lie here. In terms of security, the police would have also been overwhelmed.

  83. I’m worried about Tetamashimba…What’s wrong with that fool? His current utterances actually border on treason and should be treated as such. How does he suggest that the constitution be amended to allow RB to continue as president till 2011? He’s probably forgotten Minimie’s 3rd term bid, and how people rose against it. Up yours Teta.

  84. Hello Zambia, Mine is just to urge all of you to vote for a leader who is not going to die in state house this time around.

I guess what I mean is don’t vote for Sata, once he gets the stress that comes with being a President he will have another heart attack and die on us.

Let us vote for a young and strong leader, HH is the man.Zambian wise up, we do not want to have a reputation of having sitting Presidents dieing.

  85. I C trucks hired by MMD in all provincial HQs carrying MMD caddles to a mass rally in the name of a funeral with the casket of LPM as a campaign tool. I C everyone dressed in MMD Chitenge Materials. The speeches will all be MMD for continuety.

For your personal safety dont put on your party materials.Keep your identity to yourself. PF you are luck Im told you do not have vitenge.

Ba opposition continue sleeping MMD has started campaigning. And the program they put in place is the best for the purpose. KAYA I TELL THIS IS LPM ABUSE>

  86. Bane for those of you who were old enough in 1986, how was Samora Machel’s funeral handled? I was quite old but had no access to TV and radio at the time (mwa kaunda mudala). Meanwhile burial 3rd September, 2008 to coincide with his 60th Birthday, mourning period 21 days, elections on or before 17th November 2008. Yes Tetamashimba made that outrageous suggestion but again what can you expect from Tetamashimba, he is just trying to buy favour from RB as he is one of the two possible candidates MMD might float Magande or RB from what I hear.

  87. zambian lets be realictic LPM was the president of all the provinces, let each and everyone pay the last respect. He was a great man who deserve the best.zambia is not lusaka only it is made up of nine provinces.Lets not be selfish lusaka residents.

  88. HAs Magande’s mathematics gone beseck!!! What sense and logic is the idea of going round provincial centres ne citumbi????? Mwebantu mweeeeee, we dont have that kind of money. Doctors just called off their strike ati tulosheko bwino, manje mwayamba nzelu za umambala again. NoooooooooooooNooooooooo!!!!!! Come back to yo senses men!!
Let the body lie in state at MICC, we bury apo pene pa 3 sep, the we continue loshing for 21 days. we are a poor nation to afford the exercise as suggested by cabinet. Elyo after that we have elections. HOw shall we manage.???

  89. umungulu why complicate issues who is to fund all these expenses…not any president has died and all citizens had to attend his funeral…..what money does Zambia have to take a dead body from province to province….thats ubsurd….can we have the Mutati’s,the Magande’s,the Chitala’s of this world say something sensible am choking with anger so much because i can’t even doing anything about it……..
For them it’s politics but LPM will be buried and forgoten but we shall remain in debt they shudnt forget that we also have elections to fund……and a nation to run…huh
The so called international comunity is watching us…..these are outrageous expenses

  90. Let LPM rest in peace. The planned charade of parading the late beloved leader’s body in all the provinces beggars belief. What is the motive behind this hare-brained plan? Who ever is behind this has no respect for our late president.

  91. i was party to people who posted on the statehouse website that the body should go in provincial capitals to cut down on movement logistics for the people.moreover accomodation facilities wouldn’t have been sufficient if the funeral service was centralised.sorry to critics the president needs a befitting funeral, and may his soul rest in perfect peace.

  92. take him to all provinces? havent we spent enough already?
sounds like a campaign strategy. How smart though!

  93. #106 I would have thought it differently, everyone knows he was a national President, put up big screens in all province where people can gather and see the proceedings if you like, we saw this the time Diana died, and there is nothing selfish about people in Lusaka, this is the capital city and where the central administration is, so obviously all the proceedings are supposed to take place there. These are just my thoughts, it will give him more respect, let him rest quickly and as at least be cheaper for the zambians who he himself as a humble man would if he had a say in all this preferred a funeral of a servant because as he used to call himself not this granduer, King like occassion

  94. Chi No.106 ulibe Nzelu do you attend every member of your family’s funeral…..ala if you’re not taxed me am taxed enough….for what ???……to satisfy some power hungry *****…Nooooooooooooooooooo

  95. Bane,I told you that am not interested in knowing where you are writing from Canada,Chibolya,Matero,USA or your Bush London just write. In addition,Inform your friends the cabinet ministers, that I don’t want to hear that they spent 40billion on parading Mwanawasa across the country as they did during 2006 election(Lupando Mwape’s trip).Besides the road are bad,Tiba ponya Ichitumbi. Why don’t they just give us 5days holiday & buys a bag of mealie meal + 1crate of castle in honour of our president or subsidies the cost of fuel as a form of respect in the month of september. Then we will remember Levy in alleviating poverty.

  96. Miss Zambia 2010 ati how? Indeed before long the whole allocatoon for statehouse would have been spent and this does not include the 40 ministers that will be following the body from province to province including the man hours that will be lost because of this exercise, and such kinds of things tend to affect the exchange rates, share prices, prices for goods and services etc, watch this, there is likelihood that the inflation rate for July, August will be in double digits.

  97. Good idea to take body to all provinces provided allowances are not paid to all involved in these movements. Government officials must learn to sacrifice during mourning time. Let them show some patriotism. May God bless Zambia

  98. #117 Ba kili, what benefit do you derive from body viewing? It can also be done on TV naimwe muletonotonkanya, luchelo chelo ulelanda ifwe bupuba what mo ekobwalailila?

  99. Believe me guys we are behaving like a very rich country and to recover from this exercise and I hope I am wrong. How was JFK’s funeral handled?

  100. How much will it cost a helicopter flight from Lusaka say to Ndola? US$ 10,000.00 at the most. so multiply that by 9 pronvinces, That works out to US$90,000.00. Then include security, other expenses. Realistically it is not worth spending so much when we wont change much of the fact that LPM is dead. Why not hold one day in the indepenedce stadium for every zambian to come over

  101. 21days national mourning…!i wonder wat time MMD will campaign….according to the constitution the 90days 4 elections started counting the second L.P.M -SC died….!so 90days-21says is 69days….and wat method is MMD goin to use to choose a candidate?they will settle down wen its a week before the elections…Presidency on a silver plate 4 SATA,R.I.P MMD and LEVY…

  102. I think RB and the entire cabinet have gone mad.why taking the body around all provincial HQs?i think bafimbwi are seeing beyond there eyes, already we have By elections ahead of us and the funds to facilitate the elections will be from within the current budget.i think that these guys are just trying to buy time and what they are doing is not what LPM would have wanted for zambia.

  103. This is nonsense and lack of respect for the dead. any way MMD just wants to reduce the number of days for campaigning. but be careful LPM had bad mashamo remember-we may just witness a mini gabon disaster -ndeke izagwa!!!

  104. I totally agree with the views of 118 that no alloawances should be paid to anyone during these movements. We can not afford to loose twice.

  105. As much as I am mourning over the death of our President, I however think that it will be a very costly exercise not forgetting other hidden costs such as lodging for relatives and members of OP. MY opinion is that the body of LPM should just lie in state in Lusaka and for those who want to travel to Lusaka they go to Woodlands Stadium. I know this thing has hit us hard but we must be level headed. Our late leader was prudent when it came to the use of funds as a government and in honouring him we should also do so.

  106. 111 Andrew Jeremiah, you thought it would cut down on movement logistics, but did you ever think that the expenditure of parading the deceased will eventualy affect the logistics of how average zambians leave?

  107. Its indeed a wise adea idea to change the mounring period to 21 days. It now makes sense coz there is no way that a head of state can be mounrned for 7 days. What I dont agree is the issue of taking the body to all provincial capitals. Why cant they just leave the body at Mulungushi International Conference Centre so that it lies in state there and all those people wishing to pay their last respect should travel to LSK.

  108. The fact is LPM is dead and the earlier proposed 7 days of of national mourning was enough.
#120 and #121 are very right.we must not forget that we a developing nation and we need to cut down on our expenditure.

  109. When a person dies, they dont feel anything. Think of your friends in other provinces, most of u are critising coz u r in Lsk and will have a chance to see him. Gud decision cabinet, he was a president for all of us.

  110. While it is well to tour the body in all provinces, let us be midfull of other side effects of this decision as reminded us by one writer above who refered to the pain Maureen and family have alredy gone thru. Bless u

  111. #132 I hope after that we have a strategy for incurring this expense, in the past funerals would last seven (7) days, but now because of economic necessity funerals have bee cut down to 3 days utmost and the cultural dynamics have changed. Anyway since this is a decisions cabinat has made, I will just have to watch because I can write as much as I wish but at the end of the day I would not have changed the decision by the cabinet. They will still go ahead without consulting anyone and spend my money without consulting me and manipulate the elections to stay in power and perpetaute their careless spending.

  112. Mwebantu mwee wat are you arguing about! Let LPM’s body be taken to all provinces for people to mourn especially those that had the zeal to travel to Lusaka to deliver their last respect. This is all way of mourning him. Yes we are a developing Nation I understand. Ifyuma twalufya nge Calo ca Zambia fingi sana ifyo batwibila abalepema nalelo (still alive, name them you know them!) , understand this, Levy is gone. All this argument is about cash. Man and Money are devilish. Lekeni tuloshe Levy, he has contributed alot to dis Nation.

  113. Why do we Zambians always complain about costs involved. We all need to remind each other that LPM was president of Zambia and that there is no set standard for program of burial of heads of state as it is not a common occurance anyway. Let the burial program suit the Zambians. Bravo! idea of taking to the provinces

  114. Fine. But what happens to Chipolopolo, as fas as I am concerned the game against Togo has not been postphoned, this leaves three days to prepare.

  115. If there accidents happen during the transporting of the body to Provincial headquarters(God forbid) who is going foot the bill the pipo who will be involved.

  116. #136 Yes he has “he has contributed alot to Nation”, but do you want him to take what he contributed with him becoz he is dead, after the burial the nation will be in more poverty than ever before.

  117. LPM was a great man and a leader Zambia and Africa will greatly miss but taking him to all provincial centres is not a wise decision. People can pay respect by holding prayer functions for the first family in various provinces. Zambians, we are christians and we should know that Mwanawasa is dead. Whatever you do to his body doesn’t make a difference to his status. Im afraid there is no wisdom in our cabinet. Such a decision can only be made by hypocrites. Its not too late to reverse it anyway because it doesn’t make sense.

  118. # 98, Totally in agreement with you. The MMD wants to use the body of Levy Mwanawasa to campaing because as a party they have no money to undretake the campaign cost.
THIS IS NOT FAIR, OPEN YOUR EYES ZAMBIANS AND SEE!
    SHAME ON THE PARTY

  119. crazy 127,the deceased was a head of state, his conditions of service are different with yours and mine.the cost of the funeral is .000 % compared to what we have so far spend.this is a state funeral therefore there nothing irregular about how much will be spend.allow me to borrow the presidents words,’he did not apply to die,but fate had its own agenda.bitterness will not help on this blog.those who dont want to mourn with the nation are at liberty but dont take offence.again MHSRIEP

  120. Cost or no cost our beloved President needs special rest after all the trivials he had gone through. Please Ba MMD let the body lie in State in Lusaka and organise Buses to ferry anyone from the nine Provinces. Ba Mama ba Maureen, please prevail on these so called Ministers and stop the rot. I am sure the person who muted the idea has never had a funeral very close to him. Epo mpelele

  121. #24. Neddy,my friend everything revolves around money,so you cannot say that Zambians can not reason based on money-you should go and do more research on fiscal policies.Lets put the man to rest in peace and not moving him around provinces.

#137. Hopekins / USA.naimwe bamudala nga you are living comfortably in USA just shut up and don’t talk nonsense about about costs involved.Maybe you are one of the guys who have benefited from scholarships given to you by corrupt leaders.

Lets put the man to rest in peace in has done a lot for us!

  122. #130 I agree we do not have the luxury of expensively, moving around a stiff all over as if that will bring it back to life

  123. Perhaps there should now be a set standard for burying presidents who die in office. This decision should take into account the costs as well as the strain such an exercise causes on the family. He was Zambia’s president, but he was also someone’s husband, father, brother, etc. I am also questioning the morality of parading his body in all the nine provinces. Where is the respect for LPM? It’s as though the whole exercise is being done to satisfy people’s twisted sense of curiosity… gawking at a dead body to have a sick satisfaction that the man is really dead. I feel so bad about this. MHSRIP

  124. # 120

The body of President Kennedy was brought back to Washington, D.C. and placed in the East Room of the White House for 24 hours. On the Sunday after the assassination, his coffin was carried on a horse-drawn caisson to the U.S. Capitol to lie in state. Throughout the day and night, hundreds of thousands lined up to view the guarded casket. Representatives from over 90 countries attended the state funeral on Monday, November 25. After the Requiem Mass at St. Matthew’s Cathedral, the late president was laid to rest at Arlington National Cemetery in Virginia.

  125. Why should he go around the Country as if he was ONLY a lusaka president and yet before assuming office and the 2006 elections he was moved around the Country, it will be less costly and also create party royalty by moving him around the country to enable all Zambians he was president of pay their last respect and also see him just as they saw him in a rally when compagning.

The problem is that we ZEDIANS what to condemn everything even thinks we cannot reason about, if the inverse had happened people where still going to say why hasn’t the Govern moved the Body around after all it is not everyone who can manage to attend the funeral in Lusaka.

    LET US BE POSITIVE THINKERS!!!

  126. Chill countrymen levy is gone, the nation needs to give him last good bye,I mean the nation not lusaka.he was agood

  127. lets be realistic and burry the body. Accordingly to traditional, elders has it that dead people see. LPM wouldnt like this ideal of taking the body to all provinces. You never know, anything can happen, accidents and the like because he might not like it that way. other people are emotional, PB (STROKES) lets not cause more shock in people’s life. May the God almight control the situation. Peace love and joy. AMEN.

  128. You can’t compare this to when he was still alive and campaigning. He is not campaigning now. He is dead for crying out loud. Why can’t those people for a change follow the corpse where it will be laid? It will even be cheaper and more descent. Nikubavuta chabe ba Levy kwamene mufuna kuyamba kuchita. It’s not like those people in provinces can’t make it to lusaka. Think straight. Let the man rest in peace please…Shaaaa

  129. BUSHE ICHITUMBI CHABA PRESDO TACHAKABOLE by the time they return back to Luska considering the inadequate morturies we have in Zed.

  130. Seriously people are we backward or what? this is myopic thinking. Please let the man rest. Anyway i think its a way for MMD to try and organise themselves before the campaigns begin

  131. This thing of flying around is not a good idea. He should have been in-state for two weeks to allow citizens from across the country to pay their respects….

  132. With due respect to our leaders is this the dignity and decorum with which mourn late Levy?Levy leaves behind young children and a widow who are going to be tormented by this whole ordeal. To be honest what is being suggested is a horror.PUT LEVY TO REST WITH DIGNITY.Save him from undue indecency and curiosity.

  133. FREE ADVICE- BUY ALOT OF DEODORANTS REMEMBER THAT MAN HAS BEEN ON CHEMICALS FOR THE PAST 4 YEARS SO KUT ANUNKA PIPI

  134. People lets be real and not making funny decisions. Why waste time and money parading a dead person in all provinces.Mind you thats a big budget. He has done a lot but parading him across the country is not the only way to show he represented the country. Its the first time i have heard somebody holding a senior position in the world has been paraded across his/her country.
Anyway, more circus is yet to come.

  135. What ufwiti nonsense. Can’t they let the man rest? Parading his body in a refrigerated truck? Or will it be a refrigerated aircraft? Or will the coffin be moving by itself? Christian country indeed…

  136. are they going to make Maureen & the kids follow the body in all provinces …ichifuba kuti chalepuka kukulila mwebanthu!

Umu fyashi …zebige! nga bamuleka fye ku Lusaka till burial day. Why not use big screens placed at strategic public places in all provincial centers for pipo to watch the daily proceedings from the screen…

  137. Just wonder which people made such decisions. From my traditional point of view, it is an insult to do what is being planned.

It is just a disgraceful way of honouring a dignified late President.

I sence malice behind such a move against the first lady.

  138. Much as LPM was a hero, that’s going to be inhuman to do.lets bury him in honour.we can’t dispute the fact that he was a patriotic Zambian but this !!hey!! I don’t condon it…are you trying to buy time so that your colleagues don’t campaign?

  139. I for one as a NGONI would never have assented to such an idea.

Yet, I am mindful of the various cultures of Zambian people and if this is representative of their culture, so be it.

But to be honest, I would have never crossed my mind that such a thing could even be considered.

  140. Pragmisti..Unlike you, I see things in my own eyes and process the events with an independent mind, You are a paid cadre, and programmed to sing all tunes ,for your crumbs of bread.
It is only foolish, warped minded individual who can try to hijack a solemn situation to mint money from the national treasurly without regards or decency for the deceased.
Remember, this is all unncessary whatever justofocation you make. We know the MMD and the family tree is confused. You invested too much on the sickling president despite some advise from senior statemen including KK. I stop here..people should be responsible for therir own decisions and behaviour..i am, I have no apologiesand wont pretend

  141. coming to think of it, it will really hurt Maureen and the children cause that means Maureen will have to be at every district where they will take the body coz if she is not there people will say she is not escorting her hubby in death but when when he was alive she always escorted him.

They Ministers want to finish the money allocated for the funeral coz they know just having the funeral in Lusaka they wont spend much.

  142. i agree with number 20. this is pathetic. how can you disturb a body to that extent? i advise there just let the mayors represent the town.

  143. The time has come.
    Levy is gone
levy has done good for Zambia, offcourse, we pressured him to do so.
He was our better president, maybe he was riding on the past foundation.
Chiluba was our worst president, but he also laid a foundation to make us more aware of our potential
Oh yes Kaunda laid the foundation, but he is not blameless.
    This country will continue.
levy is dead, and oh yes he is. levy thanks for the works you have done..
but I seriously condemn the tranportation and display of your remains all across the country.
This is total disrsct for your humility and humbleness.
These pipo, they pushed you to death..They are even pushing more in your death..to where I dont know.

  144. 21 Days is too much wee! After he’s burried the country shud move on.
9 provinces of zed with a corpse.Kuzionesa uko

  145. y r we wasting resources surely???When a person is dead then that person is simply dead.U can bury him in an expensive casket but that doesn’t mean he is better than someone buried in as reed mat.y do we make funerals expensive for nothing.

I have great respect for the decesead president and will owez adore him but lets not waste resources anymo.

  146. A DEAD BODY TO BE TRANSPORTED ABOUT AND DROPPED IN DIFFRENT

PLACES FOR 21 DAYS IS SO DISHOUNORABLE.

AND WE ARE TALKING ABOUT A HONOURABLE LATE PRESIDENT!

  147. I DONT THINK THERE IS ONE SINGLE NORMAL PERSON WHO WOULD WANT HIS BODY TO BE MOVED ABOUT FOR THAT LONG IN DIFFERENT PLACES.

COULD SOME ONE PLEASE RESCIND THIS DECISION.

  148. We bury on the 3rs of September what will we be doing for the 5 days after that coz 21 days ends on the 9th. Tricks tricks tricks

  149. On second thoughts,I retract my earlier statement after thinking so hard…why don’t you se a chopper and get to every district.E.g.Livingstone would be quite far and expensive for a poor villager from Gwembe so the best is,pass thru Choma town,Monze town,Mazabuka and so forth.Kasama would not so central for northerners and so pass thru towns..its somehow a good idea so that evry zambian participates and feels attached to their leader.fellow countrymen, let’s reflect on this!

  150. are we going to take every president’s dead body all around the nation? Just televise the funeral to all provinces and districts

  151. my grandfather was an honourable man..clearly i feel he shud be exuhumed so that we can go to all the provinces to honor him properly!!!

  152. #159 That is a very mean thing to say the dead. Please respect the dead regardless of what their condition has been. You are the same people who stigmatise the HIV+ people. Shame on you!

  153. This is wrong and humiliating to levys family. Why take levy’sbody thru out the country,,let the man rest in eternal peace,he has suffred enough plizzz.

    Zed think twice abhout this

  154. Why shld MMD apease a dead man? who do they want to hoodwink that they rilly luved their leader by taking him round the 9 provinces at tax payers moni? farewell levy….

  155. This is MMD trying to use trumatizing tactics on the nation and cabinet hoping the pipo will forget about the salary increses they whant.
Gang of pathetic thieves. They what to steal in the morning, in the day, in the night and even when you are dead.

  156. mmm this is queit a good guesture for our late president.he will be visiting even places he never visited when he was alive.
sad that he will be in a casket.the idea of taking round the country is good but the other way it is not serving any purpose.our ministers will take advantage of this to finish money in our country coz they will demand allowences at the end of the day.

  157. You fools what are you talking about? along the line of rail you did not vote for Levy. Even those around State House you didnt, why not accord us villagers to pay the last respect to our beloved levy. MMD please dont use this as a compaine move.
The man was a Republican President so it is befitting to extend the mourning period to 21 days, how many days did we mourne Samora Mashel?

  158. LPM was a great leader in zambia, africa and the world at large.why is it that us people in africa we want to do things in extrems.we are going back and forward, why should we spend like that tomorow we will need to live and develop our country but it like we want to give remains to our late president.i am saying this because our ministers are now chewing the country’s cofers……may our president LPM rest in peace.we will remember his great works

  159. LPM(MHSRIP) was used when he was alive and even when he is dead the same people that used him when he was alive want to use him again to campaign. Will RB and the former first family be with the body in each provincial center? Won’t the acting President just collapse as well and won’t this move just add stress to the wife and family? This is a campaign strategy, to most villagers it will just confirm that MMD is finished. I can imagine the angels showing LPM what kind of people he surrounded himself with, crooks of the waste kind. The angels must be showing him just how he was used and how his body is being used in the name of paying him their last respect. Maloza ba MMD!!

  160. Congrats LT for bringing back the blogg we know. I feel that the move to take the body to all provincial capitals in Zambia is good as it will enable everyone in the country side to pay their last respects to our fallen hero. People are only appreciated once they are no more, Levy you tried your level best & sure enough u could not please everyone. Even if your family tree always let you down, as an individual you did humanly well. Hamba Kasle mfowetu, take our greetings with you. Greet all the Zambians you find wherever it is that dead people go. Rest in bliss for you r at peace

  161. #185 and 162; because of your cocerns, Cabinet has decided to hire a ZAMBEEF truck to make sure that LPM is not burried as game meat but as fresh from the farm or is Paris

  162. I for one don’t support the idea of parading the dead in all the provinces. Yes, he was a patriot, it doesn’t show respect to the dead in my opinion. How does he rest in peace when his body will be dragged in all provinces. Rest in peace my man. You’ll be remembered for the good works.

  163. mwebantu mwe which tradition are you using by parading LPM all over the world….its very untraditional not zambian to parade the dead…BAlevy nganamwishiba wht des pradalaz are plaining nga mwabuka…
Lets stop des please…MMD DONT CAMPAIGN USING THE DEAD>>GOD FORBID…

  164. Watch out!!! The chemicals there have put in that coffin will contaminate our beloved Zambia. This can easily spread another disaster for Africa. who knows what these dodgy West are thinking, careful mwe bantu’nse.Namisoka don’t get closer to the box.

  165. MMD DONT CAMPAIGN USING BA LPM BODY IT WONT HELP YOU….MMD JUST PREPARE TO FACE SATA MULETINA WHAT…YOU THINK PIPO SHALL VOTE FOR YOU WHEN YO TAKE HE DEAD AROUND>>>

LETS BURY NOW THE EALIER THE BETTER COZ AM STARTING TO LOSE PATIENCE…DAYS ARE NUMBERED..

  166. Money aside, going round the country is just a mad idea. Yes he deserves a state/ presidential funeral. The country has already been in a state of sorrow for two months, yes his passing makes it hard for all that have been praying. He has already been thru alot, his family, even worse. Am sure every country man will agree, that deferring his internment is really not a sign of respect in this instant. The initial plan of laying him in state in Mulungushi for a number of days, burial on the 29th, is the most sensible. To allow the rest of the country partake in the event, giant screens entail a reduced logistical operation, but achieving a reasonable end to the problem of being all inclusive!

  167. If he was a notorious criminal, I could have agreed so that all people see him that he’s dead. You don’t move an honourable man’s body like that.

  168. Guys balekeni, Chibanda chabavuta! What will happen is at the end all is we shall carry out an audit of what went to the cost of sickness and funeral expenses[properly supported by documentation] and what was actually disbursed as miscellaneous expenses and allowances to individuals at Ministry level, statehouse and national level. Then we shall do a forensic audit of what each individual who received those allowances was actually doing or involved in i.e. if indeed it was contributing to the healing or proper burial of the late “Chibumba”. People will have to account.

  169. i think its a waste of resources to parade the body around zambia, its just a way of campagning for the next MMD president, watch out u *****s

  170. 197 your thinking is so low.. get a life or a brain transplant, coz obviously yr little brains are not doing u any good. rest in peace levy.

  171. WHEN WE REQUESTED FOR HIS PICTURE WHILST IN FRANCE, MULONGOTI WAS THE FIRST TO SAY IT IS UN AFRICAN AND NOW BECAUSE YOUR JOBS ARE IN DANGER YOU WANT TO CAPITALISE ON LEVY’S DEAD BODY.

SHAME ON YOUR DECISIONS, MAY GOD BLESS ZAMBIA. AS HE DID WHEN MOSES WAS GONE, SO SHALL HE PROVIDE A JOSHUA.

  172. Provincial Hqs or not, we just hav to mourn our Leader afterall he brought the fight against corruption and new policies which we hav to implement ourselves from now not talking too much. We are adeveloping nation mind you. Lets be called big!!!

  173. Iwe sure, bazaba body yaba LPM ba Katele Kalumba pa laptop yawo.PLS,DON’T PLAY GAMES.Let the man rest. So…pls tell me sumthing.Yamene iyi body…iza yamba ku yenda by aeeyyyyaaaa or by Mazhandu???Pls!GET REAL for crying out loud!

  174. I agree with you my sis 197 please go back to bed and come back refreshed your brain needs that rest. Katusheni mayo trust in the Almighty thats it.

  175. iyi yena nimakali….mmmmm yaku yaku yaku ukukampena using ichitumbi kwena mwalisela ba MMD.tmupanba uyu muleleta muchalo

  176. Its such an embarrassement to outsiders listening to this NONSENSE at a time were Fuel has become so expensive even here in developed countries USA,Canada, Europe everyone is tightening their belts to save. ALAS, Zambia seems to have it in abandance such that parrading a Corpse in 9 provinces means nothing and after burial fuel costs will sky rocket and no one will account for the gross misappropriate of much needed funds to survive the day after burial.Life goes on after LEVY remember that. Why do you want to empty the coffers over I dead person and remain without like fools after. There are 12 million survivals to think of.I know he was presido and deserves best burial but pls ABASH PARADE.

  177. Bane,,,he has also left me some stuff for your own info so PLS!!!I hope not only the chldren fron statehouse are benefiting….u beta look at my kids too!!!I hope u know what I mean.

  178. Netx President should cover himself by providing in his will no parading across the country of the body upon death.

  179. LPMS WANNA BE Girlfriend.. y dont u discuss yr little inheretance with maureen.. thats if she’ll be interested to listen to share it with u. honestly i find you so sickening i feel like throwing up after having my late lunch.

  180. Blackburn Rover 220. stop embarasing yrself with your ignorance. LPMS body will be heavily embalmed, not from st.anns or uth.the body can go for months without any odour.

  181. Is a title such as LPM’s Girlfriend appropriate or do those initials stand for something else. How about if you were a widow and someone used your late husband’s initials?? Fellow Zambian women please take pride in your womanhood.

  182. Stop using those initials and dnt pretend that he was your whatever, mambala eeewe. You letting us real ladies down.Behave yourself. this is not a joke, NOSENSE!!

  183. MMD can do whatever they want to LPM’s body but they should know that they are just wasting their time and tax payers’ money. What is so special about a dead body. A person is only a celebrity when they are alive, once they are dead they are no different from any other corpse. Guyz whoever is responsible for this will be made to account for their actions in the next govt. Watch.

  184. This is a good idea for the Zambian people to give their president the last respect because it can not be possible for all of us in the country to travel to Lusaka for the funeral. May God confort the first family and our mother Zambia and may his soul rest in peace.

  185. MMD parading a corpse may not work to your advantage. Be careful Zedians are not very comfortable with bodies. You may just scare ours out of voting for you. Let the dead rest in peace, you would not like your body to be displayed to the masses who are living after you are gone would you? Be very careful how you go about all this.

  186. The goverment has just made a plan to steel funds, where on earth has this ever happen and where are they going to get the money coz in the 2008 budget there is no any location for funeral funds, whats up men!!!

  187. Iam sure all of you who have been busy condeminf the govt prog. of taking the body in the provincese are all lsh dwellers.Be objective in life please!!!!!!!!!!!!!If you happend to have been living in chipta, you could have apprciated the whole plan.laern to think about the needs of others b4 you condem anything. To me you all sound like the mmd ministers who ahve been crying fro increment. shame on you Zambians!! Its no wonder we dont have any proposed presidental candidate upto now.Coz most of you are cant reason properly.WAKE UP ZAMBIAN PLZ!!!!!!!!!!!!

  188. having read some of the dull comments so far. i could discern that we have wannabe comedians on this blog. let me tell this for free. any ***** who is makimg fun of our bereavement should go and watch his/her parents making love. i beleive this would be funny enough not these silly jokes you are putting up here. why cant you reflect the mood in the nation. whether you blog to your death about the need not to parade LPM in provincial centres, the fact is that this has already been arranged. next monday the body in Kasama. so you jokers throwing nauseating jokes do what i have advised perhaps when you narrate what your parents were doing people would laugh.

  189. even minibus drivers have shown a lot of maturity. just take a drive around town and you will observe that cars and buses are driving with full beam. this is how it should be. honestly how could you be so heartless and say the corpse will be smelling. ask yourself, havent you lost a loved one before. sorry for using insults but i thought i could pour out my anger by annoying others as well. its called anger management.

  190. The government will receive this year around 450 Million US-$ from a whole new tax packet for the mines (raising of royalities, windfall taxes, etc.)which were NOT BUDGETED IN THE 2008 BUDGET. Maybe the election and the burial tour around the country will be financed with this money. Or is it again foreign donors that will have to pay for the election?

  191. Guys, this is now distasteful. Have some respect. This LPM’s girlfriend has no morals. I cannot believe if you were his mistress you would be blogging not that I’m even believeing anyhting that you’re saying. I would’ve thought if someone dear to you had died you would be mourning…obviously not. Please let’s have mature and intelligent dicsourse, not shabby uneducated mutterings. I’ve never worked with a funeral director but I have been tomany funerals where people have died abroad and the casket has been open for body viewing. I’m still alive. I’m not feeling LT anymore It was fun at first and also humourous now some people are just talking crap. Have a good weekend.

  192. #17 i totally agree with you, this is the most rediculous idea i have heard ever scince Levy’s death how can Maureen even allow it.The poor Man alraedy suffered two mouths leading to his death. Why should he be subjected to more suffering even in death-taking him around the country. This is an idea from the old school(most likely initiated by RB)thats the problem of being lead by grand fathers.Let the body lie in state for two days then bury next week as earlier planned.

  193. RB should put himself in Levy’s shoes-would he want his corpse to be moved around the whole country ?????????? i don’t think so.I beg to be corrected-Levy was watch tower and they don’t believe in worshipping the dead because thats what this will turn out to be,if we are not careful they will keep changing the programme.the Levy i knew would consider this absurd-we are bereaved yes-lets bury him in a dignified manner whoever wants to pay there last respect must travel to lusaka-those who can’t travel can watch the whole procession on t.v.

  194. pragmatist, you are the reason am homesick.ever had of sampling ? at least 95% OF THE BLOGGERS on this topic are against this idea.It beats me that you keep justfying yourself. you are now upsetting me.mulibe chifundo mwe bantu to his family especially his young children.

  195. As much as we are mourning we should think as well. 21 days is just too and taking the body round the country is not a good idea. The body can be shown on TV and everyone will see it. I personally ve never Mwanawasa pysically when he was alive but, seeing him live only when he’s died not so good.

  196. A very neutral view. Seems those that are opposed to the idea of taking the body to all provincial towns win since they are many. However, i personally will be happy to pay my last respect to the president no matter how much it will cost. There are ways of reducing on costs, say people volunteer to escort the body and we avoid making it a mandate for certain office bearers to avoid certain costs which will drive some people. The only fear i have is that our power hungry and crooked MMD buddies are definitely going to take advantage of the situation for campaign. MHSRP

  197. Awe, this one thumbs down….21 days is okey but the issue of
provincial towns, kaya? IMF& others are so perplexed how much $$
we are willing to shovel after all the expenses, for some i agree the prez is entiltled, yet country trotting is some nw a
luxury at the expense of the poor tax payer………………

  198. I feel for the first lady, is she really also up for ths crap?is it a show off to the world tht zedians no how to mourn ooh plz 9 provinces am sure even our big man whre ever he is he saying tht now i have left fools in zambia, his soul wants a rest .balefwaikwa amano coz as far as i can see tabakwate nakungu a drop.

  199. 21Days is ok to mourn our late president but taking his body around the country is not good.He was unconscious from the time he collapsed till his death so why not leave his body to lay in state at mulungushi conference center till the burial day and all those who want to pay their last respect can do so in Lusaka.lets us not use the ax payers money carelessly when the man needs to rest now.mhsrip

  200. But ndiye ku funta uku ehhh,Pliz God help us,yes 21 days is cool NOT doing “round us” with a coffin with a highly respectable man like LPM(MHSRIP),PLIZ HELL NO! its unhead of,am sure the gimik is to fill up thier Personal pokets no matter how deep the are in the name of funeral expenture,PLIZ, pliz,we dont want hunger to strik zambia after all this…Shaa!!!!!

  201. The question is, are they going to allow all the Jims and Jacks to pay there last respects or it’ll be for the apamwambas??

  202. pliz we can honour the memory of our great president by giving him a state funeral in lusaka, seat of govt.it is hypocritical to take body on country wide tour.let it lay in state at micc and all can give last respects there!
and u #159,u have no soul!u must be a relative of the plunderers being persued!

  203. Mwebe bene Mukuni, are you the ones who made this preposterous decision? Unless Levy himself wanted it that way, which I doubt, it is ridiculous. If you want to attract sympathy votes for the MMD Den of thieves (except Levy), why are you making such a fuss about HH saying he will run?

  204. Let us mourn levy with the respect he deserves.Taking round will not mean anything unless its the start of MMD campaigns.Lusaka would have been the best place for all of us to mourn and pay our last respect. He was unconscious from the time he collapsed till his passing on so why trouble him again worse more using tax payers money.let him rest in peace please.

  205. Eh Eh Eh eh Umupamba !! nshamonako, I citumbi chiya mkutandalila abantu? thats bad luck to all those provinces.

  206. I am happy that the body will be taken to all provincial towns, which is part of the mourning for the Head of State.I would want to hear that our beloved man be buried at State House, just like Catholic Bishops/Pope.

  207. I think that that taking the body round is a poor decision. Who ever consented to this is shallow. Will someone think of the children and family? I knew the late President and doubt that he would have consented to this were he alive. The whole idea in my view is disrespectful and unacceptable. I shudder at the thought and hope that suitable risk assessments have been taken to mitigate any possible mishaps. Do you know that the pilots can be traumatised as well??

  208. Its just a compaign strategy. Barclays have even oppenned an account for donations……….UUUuuhh….. Parading a Dead body and open an account??? on what account??????????

    …………tiyeni tu tonto kanyenyepo…..!!

  209. I’ve been exploring for a bit for any high-quality articles or blog posts on this sort of space . Exploring in Yahoo I ultimately stumbled upon this web site. Are you positive in regards to the source?|What i do not realize is in truth how you’re no longer actually a lot more well-liked than you might be now. You are very intelligent.
