Masebo orders land audits

Share

Local Government and Housing Minister, Sylvia Masebo has directed all the 72 local authorities in the country to carry out land audits to ascertain the land belonging to the councils.

Ms Masebo said that some councils have developed a tendency of allocating land which does not belong to the council to members of the public.

She observed that this had led to double allocation of land which is increasing causing rangles among citizens.

Ms Masebo said this in Kapiri Mposhi district when she held a meeting with the council and other stakeholders.

Ms Masebo’s directive comes in the work of complaints from some Kapiri Mposhi residents who paid the council for land which belongs to Zambia Railways.

She has since directed the Kapiri Mposhi district council reimburse the 25 residents who had each paid the council K5 Million for the said land.

“ I warn all councils to desist from getting into trouble with the ministry of lands by allocating land which does not belong to them to members of the public;” Ms Masebo said.

She warned councils to desist from allocating land to which belongs to the ministry of land and other private individuals.

Ms Masebo said the Minister of Lands has the power to revoke any council from  allocating land should they be found allocating land illegally.

She said councils must heed to the advice from government by avoiding illegal allocation of land to members of the public.

  1. Spot on Sylvia, you know how to do your job, campaign for Bwezani we need him to continue from where he is. Wish there could be more graduates in Govt.

  2. MMD has no land in zambia but they are always giving out land to their supporters. The council are not even involved very much.

  3. Congrats Sylvia. At least with an audit in hand, Sata will know where to start from. It will be clear who has bought what in MMD and their cohorts. Clever gal! Just know which side of the sea the storm is sailing. U know the clock was last refueld in 1996 and the watch attendant left the podium.

  4. Madam Masebo the solution here is DECENTRALIZATION.Some of the council leaders do not even have a say in the issues because you politicians are always getting into their way.

  5. #4 i disagree. these so called council leaders are the first to allocate themselves land and then try to sell it on privately. they are the main causers of this problem. try buying a plot of land in zed and see if the title deeds do not originate from some council guy.

  6. Madam # 5.You see the fact that verfication of the deed can only be done in lusaka makes these council guys to make fake deeds so by the time the so called land owners try to use the land they are not the only ones claiming title to it.

  7. whatever the case.MMD or PF councilors call the shots on land allocations. Ask those in Ndola who applied for land in Mitengo. they will tel you that the land belongs to politicians. sad state of affairs. but who cares this is zed from vigilantes, venders desk and now caders are all untouchable.

  8. Mrs Masebe ,is she not the minister of local GRZ and housing ,correct me here is there not a minister of lands if there is then mrs masebo is herself encroching on some other ministers turf .

  9. Madam sylvia you are an iron Lady, one who does the right thing whether it costs the party popularity or not. This country needs such people like you.The problem is that most of your fellow politicians are not civilised so your efforts are a drop in the ocean.PLIZ campaign for RB COZ he’s the only one with a big heart. HH and Sata are both tribalists !!!

  10. #9 is a person with parochial intermitent delusions that are incosistent with progressive aproach to Zed’s solutions. Who is a tribalist mtch? Didn’t u hear that RB got noticed after campaigning for Levy in Eastern Prov? Sata hot more votes in lusaka and Copperbelt and Northern including Central. RB and Sata, there ‘s no basis for comparison becoz Sata is in proven delivering ranks where RB is just an infectious oportunistic old and tired chancer.
