Richard Sakala in the dock

Share

Former State House Press Aide Richard Sakala Thursday appeared for mention in the Lusaka Magistrates Court.

This is in a matter where Mr. Sakala has been put on his defence after he was found with a case to answer for abuse of authority of office.

Mr. Sakala who is jointly charged with a Lusaka resident, Nellie Mwila will defend himself in two other offences of forgery and executing a valuable security.

He told the court that he intends to call 12 witnesses in the case.

Magistrate Sharon Newa has set october 20, 28 and 29 as dates for Mr. Sakala defence hearing.

Mr. Sakala and Ms. Mwila were put on their defence after the state proved beyond reasonable doubt that they had engaged in the alleged offences.

And Magistrate Newa refused to grant Mr. Sakala’s lawyer an order to allow the court provide statements recorded from witnesses by investigating officers before the matter was taken to court.

Magistrate Newa said there is no authority which can allow the court to do so.

  1. mwakangiwa no lemba bwino ,lol!

  2. he was not smart…he seem to be the only plunderer who did not cover his tracks well…send him to jail for a longer period of time,,,to teach others a lesson,,,,
    viva sata viva sata

  3. Leave the stealing to us northerners. 😀

On a serious note, he must pay. We took so many steps backwards in the 90s due to bad national management and rampant plundering of resources.

  4. Leave this guy alone. Why not pursue Chiluba and other thieves with the same zeal exhibited on Sakala. Not to condone waht he did, but this is clearly messing with the little guy while the big fish continue to enjoy freedom

  5. Am a patriotic Zambian who believes in the rule of law. As for Sakala, the Zambian law is segregative, this man may be guilty or not guilty of the alleged offences comitted during his term in office. Why is Chiluba, Katele and Mwaanga and others left scotfree? It makes me wonder. The man has saved his term in prison. Be fair, Chiluba , Katele, Mwaanga and others are still enjoing theire freedoms.God help us. Am a poor former miner who doesnt even know any of these people, have mentioned but, only sympathetic of Sakala while leaving the real culprits free. God will multiply your sufferings, if you continue persecuting the innocent. Jesus help us.

  6. richard sakala. your history is powerful. has RB seen it. i think october 23, 1991 is coming a token k20,000.00. 2008 15 million. well sakala its a lesson. but i am praying for you brother. you have suffered for being in bad company.

  7. No 9. You are a poor former miner because this man you are trying to support.Let him face the music.Am enjoying it.

  8. #3, EVERY ONE WHO STAYED IN CHILUBAS GOVT UP TO 2001 WAS A PLUNDERER,INCLUDING SATA.THE DECENT PEOPLE RESIGNED AS SOON AS THE SAW THE WANTON PLUNDERER OF STATE RESOURCES.

  9. Its Sad that Sakala is behind bars, while Sata is free. He needs to be arrested. They all should be arrested including Sata.

  10. Sakala is not smart. He accepted to be used and took power to his head. This man thought chiluba would rule forever. He made himself the most powerful spokesperson ever in the office of the President superseding even the Cabinet Ministers. Let him rot in jail.. Time will come for Teta and Mulongoti for this scandals and bribery they are conducting on behalf of RB

  11. Breaking News – HH tipped to win. RB and Sata have paid to pay the VJ 10Billion Kwacha reging fees. He refused the Suger and Siga from RB and Sata respesct.

  12. 16, VJ rejected Sata’s offer of daga as settlement for rigging fees and Tonnes of suggar from RB-‘SugarDady’ being down-payment for rigging fees set for October 30 bye ellections.

  13. 17, You are right, Vj could only accept cash this time around. He rejected Sugar due to his diabetic disease and he complained none receipt of rigging fees from Mugabe, kabila, Mwai Kibaki Chiluba and Levy in 2006.

  14. BaSakala ngamwaliiba ninshi mwaliibafye,in life there will always be sacred cows, you are my friend.Allow the law to take it’s course. We need Zambia developed and not plundering the resources. You have been sorted out for stealing. It is a lesson.

  15. # 15 – you are spot on the way Richard Sakala used to conuct himself ! He thought he was untouchable. What went up has now surely come down – with a thud ! That being say, the law should be fair and if he is guilty and found to be, let him go to jail. If, he’s just being used as the ‘sacrificial lamb’, then it is not fair that Katele Kalumba and others have not been brought to justice

  16. He is not the only prisoner in jail. Tell us about Captain Solo as well. Not only one prisoner in the papers every day. Stupid gossipers, who have nothing better to do other than searching for others’weaknesses.

  17. The Post is the best gossiper. It only has one agenda until elections; to decampaign Rupiah. One would think that M’membe is intelligent, only when he uses public shaming to sell his paper. His best targets are dignatories. He sells his paper when he can shame public figures. Name them: Kalusha Bwalya, Mwanawasa, Sata, Hichilema, Chiluba, Rupiah, Shikapwasha. Besides, he is one guy who can go against all olds to defame anyone for the sake of selling his paper. Good enough, he has an obidient class of hopeless Zambians who seek solace in his insults, not knowing that he is in business. An extra insult for M’membe makes him richer, But what does it make you. You die with his paper as your pillo

  18. let justice prevail! tricky dick thought he was above the law. we shall ensure that the current plunderers face the wrath! if you can not do the time, do not do the crime. always recall that God hears the plight of the poor. viva mob justice…!

  19. Eastern power Vs Northern power.how slow could Sakala get?i remember one time when he blasted everyone who was sitting on a tender committee including the D.G at that time Mr Mulonga, that if a certain company did not receive the tender to refurbish the burnt down Society Building everyone would get fired or sent to jail. Now see who is suffering?Sakala twalekweba, iwe ati iyo ba kateka opobacili

  20. The law must take its course. I do not care who and where anybody comes from…also, nothing like ‘he is a scapegoat’, the fact that there is premafacie case established is sufficient to purport an offense took place. Let the drums sound

  21. Leave richard alone, this guy has aleady done is time in jail, why pursue him further is it because is an easy target coz of his heritage,Try some bemba chaps now.

  22. These people were stealing in the name of the president.every who did business with them could not question they dealing as always were cheating that the president want this and that this is the issue chiluba is be accused of plunder

  23. If there is violin music playing i can’t hear it.
He stole from us,now he is wasting not only the states time but also its money.
Send him back with a longer sentence!

  24. To all the people with blind loyalty, this is what happens when your boss leaves office. Sakala(thats what happens when you take up a job you are less qualified for) thought chiluba will be there forever and became too confortable abusing his position or being used, now he is being prosecuted while his boss is having fun!

  25. #17 and #18 LUBINDA elections are never rigged check the zambian demographics. SATA Won CB,LUAPULA and LUSAKA DISTRICT(not lusaka province coz the province includes luangwa, lufunsa, chongwe, chilanga and LSK west). HH won SOUTHERN which has a population 3*bigger than luapula were SATA won.The MMD then got Eastern(highly populated, Northwestern, lusaka(exept lsk district),WESTERN,NORTHERN,came second in SOUTHERN and shared Central province with the other parties in addition to comming second whereever it lost. So who won my dear? Forget RIGGING it doesnt exist.

  26. Mwadya Mweka Daddy.Maybe your accomplice can keep you company.
Plead guilty and stop wasting more of the states time and money.

  27. mwaiche sakala you are victim of selective prosecution, you were in numbers but your accomplices are enjoying freedom, some of them are even in missions abroad. Plunderers/thieves learn something from this eastener chap.
    yalikosa

  28. These are the people RB is embracing already MMD has declared Kafupi not to a plunderer. we now know in 1991 it K20000 and now it is K15 million. i wonder how much Chishimba was given. say no to RB and his bribes

  29. SAKALA should surfer for being a plunderer and hindering development of the country. However, all the others who surrounded FTJ like SATA, SILWAMBA etc. should also be investigated and given an opportunity to face the LAW. Those who rejected plunder like LPM, E kasonde and many others resigned from MMD govt under FTJ, the others took part in plunder and can not be trusted.

  30. If anything this bugger Sakala and all the other plunderers should have been shot dead (executed). Their actions sent many people to their early graves.Plunderers deserve no mercy. The only lenient punishment should be life imprisonment.

  31. Hard luck Richard.Manje where are his accomplices.Richard did not do everything alone.Bene Titus Jacob Mpundu balikuti?

  32. Ubwato always behind time , Ubwato always behind in thinking , Ubwato always making noise, ubwato without water to sail on …

  33. HH SHOULD ALSO BE ARRESTED HE WAS PART OF THE PLUNDERS IN CHILUBA GVT. HE IS A SILENCE PLUNDER WHO PLUNDERED RAMCOZ AND JUST BCOZ HE WAS NOT CAUGHT HE THINK HE IS CLEAN! MASIPA AOOOOOOOOOOOOO!

  34. you know what every one the man did his time,so i think its about time they left him alone, and you so called zambian christians who are saying he should get killed i think you need to revisit your faith.i think the man did his time in jail and if we are a christian nation its about time they left him alone and deal with someone else coz there is many more that have not been touched. God bless mr sakala coz his done his part.
