Voter turn out slows down in Lusaka

Share

The voter turn out has slowed down in most polling stations in Lusaka Central Constituency.

A check by ZNBC news shows that long queues that characterised polling stations in the constituency in the morning have disappeared.

And a team of SADC observer mission was seen going round polling stations in Lusaka, checking on the voting exercise.

Polling stations will close at 18 hours and initial results are expected on Friday.

Zambians are voting in an election that will usher in the country’s fourth President.

The election comes after the death of President, Levy Mwanawasa, on August 19.

Polling stations opened at 06.00 hours across the country on Thursday to enable the 3.9 registered voters to cast their ballots.

An early assessment shows that the voting is peaceful, with most polling stations recording a relatively fair turnout.

The polling stations will close at 18.00 hours and the first results are expected on Friday.

The Electoral Commission of Zambia- ECZ- has opened a center in Lusaka which will release presidential election results as they trickle in from various parts of the country.

ECZ Chairperson Justice, Florence Mumba, said the center is expected to announce the first presidential results by Friday morning

And a number of people in Livingstone have been turned away from polling stations because they do not have green National Registration Cards,NRCs while others have invalid voters’ cards.

Livingstone District Electoral Officer, George Kalenga says some people wanted to vote using photocopies of their NRCs or other documents like driving licences and passports.

At the Old Boma Polling Station the Presiding Officer, Owen Kashoti said one person was turned way because he wanted to use the voter’s card for the 2001 elections.

Meanwhile a number of people who have cast their votes in Livingstone are happy the elections are taking place in a peaceful atmosphere.

Others are however, concerned with the low turn-out of voters.

But Livingstone District Election Officer said the turn-out was high in the morning though it reduced later, probably due to the intense heat in Livingstone.

  1. Zambian problem! People in ma yard are busy watching DSTV and cant vote. When Sata is declared winner they will protest and ask how come? How do they expect to win elections if they dont vote and leave voting to hooligans

  2. #2 each moment i open the page you are not constructive?Did you vote anyway.
I have just come back from voting, low turn up and it is boiling hot in L/stone

Osa yopa Muntu Muzako, Chalo ni catu Tonse.

    God be with us.

  5. That simply means, people have now realized that there is nothing Politicians can offer, even if we vote for them, it will simply work to their advantage.

No vote or with Vote, there will be no difference in the economy, especially that HH can’t make it.

    Hahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh

    PABWATOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO

  6. Why is it that pipo who did not have voters cards were the ones making the loudest noise? Its true, the bee that makes the most noise does not sting. Tizaona manje ba bama BP

  7. Most pipo thot queues shall b in the morning in l/stone.Iam afraid after 14hrs it will b kafwafwa.this time around ,its even faster,1,is taking less than 5mins in polling station

  8. am also wondering where all kaponyas who were making noise have gone mayb they are in town selling plastic bags too bad baSata.Viva hh hh hh hh the only man with interllectuals following him

  9. Because of the low turn out, i believe the boat will sink, it’s sailors have abandoned ship when they are most needed.Sata should have told his cadres that big turn outs at rallies means nothing if they can’t vote!

  10. Where are my friends on this blog? Have they gone to vote? people like Maestro, we can loose HH but not you, you are such a good guy on this blog. Uka vota ubwere tikambe wamvera?

  11. The kaponyas went there early in the morning. But those working class people have decided to sit home and watch DStv. What shame for HH.

  12. THIS TYM VOTER TURN OUT WILL BE LOW COZ PIPO HAVE MOVED.EG THOSE WHO FINNISHED AT CBU, UNZA AND OTHER COLLEDGES IN 2006 AND 2007 HAVE RELOCATED MEANWHILE THEY VOTED WHILST AT THEIR INSTITUTIONS.IN VILLAGES PIPO HAVE NOT MOVED MUCH SO WE EXPECT ALMOST THE SAME TURN OUT..

  13. Us that belong to the real party voted as early as 6.30 i was 3rd and had about 200 pipo behind me . I pray that all those pals we where attending meetings with have all voted.out of the 200 am sure 150 voted for PF. for security reasons i wnt tell you,But i wish Sata all the best otherwise AM FIRED

  14. All the Kaponyas got so excited after the closing PF rally & drunk all night….. Nivi chakolwa. They are too tired to get up and can’t be bothered to vote since there won’t be free alcohol!! Wise citizens and the undecided, vote wisely vote HH.

  15. Let us understand the fact that people who attend rallies come from different places and we do not expect them to be crowded like a rally NO.On Sata’s rally there people from Matero,Chawama,Woodlands,John Leing,John Haward etc so do not expect us to vote at the same time.Mwenso uyo mwatampa.Viva Sata Viva PF
    Mwamukolooooooooooo!Pabwatooooooooooooooooo!

  16. those who are still connected, keep on informing us on what is happeinig, abidjan people are greeting me with respect because of the good behaviour of zambians, “you are peacefull peaple”, there are saying

  17. Iyo, people who attend rallies for SATA’s opaque beer and most of them are still sleeping because they were drinking all night or they have lost their voter#s cards. Azalila SATA lelo. He thinks he can take Zambians for granted. We all know and he knows that he is NOT presidential material, why even try?

  18. voter apathy in the making. now pipo can no longer eat politics but who ever takes the day as president, this will be the shortest rule zambia will expect coz the economy is not in favor of zambia and all the best to all the 4 candidates

  19. #22 don’t comfort yourself most of those kaponyas are not registered voters all that noise they were making will go with them in the sinking titanic, shame on you ba PF! ifwe nipakuboko chabe viva HH

  20. there is no motivation to vote thats why dad was distributing sugar in katete. to encourage people to vote the government should give beer coupons after casting a vote.since we are a beer drinking nation you will be amazed at the voter turnout!

  21. Something is just wrong somewhere, can someone tell me where the crowds we have been seeing suddenly gone? How can you explain this vanshing phenomenon? Just that people come from different areas during rallies is not point enough. May be some one told them to stay at home. Hope its not the work of the RIGGING machinery. Even in Solwezi things are not the same anymore. And why tell the pipo they will find Voters cards at the polling stations but only to find nothing there as is the example at CBU? Florence Mumba. May this job befits a man. So far women have succumbed to inefficiency.

  22. The celebration is over ba PF it was a great 12 weeks thanks for energising the atmosphere but what counts is actual vote. Foward with the Nation congrats HE.R.Banda.

  23. Anso winangu mailo azalila, munzava ati munthu azithundila mukabudala kamukati, kapena ma BP yaza kwela, gazi zi za choka mukamwa namuma kuthu mailo, haahaaaahahhahhhhaaaa, zedians have lost hope, not even the church is offering hope.

  24. Radio Phoenix 1300hrs Sata says the election have been rigged.what does this mean conceading defeat and trying to incite people for violence. No ways to violence twakana may the best candidate win the elections

  25. I agree with Sharp Steve# 29

1 “people who attend rallies come from different places and we do not expect them to be crowded like a rally NO”.
2 There are many polling station
3 Voting time is spread over 12 hours
Lets wait and see how the day progresses. But we cant rule out the the fact that there are a lot of pipo attending rallies(MMD,UPND,PF & HP) yet they dont have Voters Cards. The candidate whose stronghold will display the worst apathy will lose out. Therefore interalia, lets analyse apathy by each candidate’s stronghold

  26. TOO MUCH TENSION IN THIS FORUM

CHINKOLOKO SICHENZE CHA WATER PROOF,SO CHAZIMA NAVI MANZI,CLIMB INTO THE BOAT,ITS NEVER TOO LATE OR YU DROWN!!!!

  29. Your RB nearly killed people in Lufwanyama – St Josephs mission and cant vote because they are in hospital. They were being ferried in a truck to attend a rally. Lesa apela mukupalamika!!!!!!!!!!!!

  30. Dear God, please bless our mother zambia and who ever is to be our chosen president. Please help us all to remember our moto of “one zambia one nation”. Irrespective of the results please help us as a nation to accept them, come what may and refrain from unnecessary acts.

If anything the onus is on us to make this a better nation.

To those with the rude remarks and comments I mean really. This is the future of our country at hand.

  31. mr Sata just wants to cause violence honestly how can he start talking about rigging when voting is still going on.I pity the man he alredy has a damaged heart he may just have another heart attack it’s only too bad because then there will be no LPM to help him.Bamudala bola panshi kutimwafwa.Viva HH

  32. Voter turn out slows down in Lusaka ”

WEEEEEEE WINA AZAZINELA MAILO)))))))))))))))) IT IS NOT ABOUT HOW MANY KAPONYAS FOLLOWED SATANA BUT IT IS ABOUT HOW MANY GENUINE SUPPORTERS FOLLOWED HIM))))

  33. sources coming in is that satas supporters have boycotted to vote, claiming he promised them brown envelops by yesterday but the man has dissapeared,RB IS WINNING WE CANT ALLOW THAT MAD MAN TO BE PRESIDENT

  34. #54 I agree with both of you, these people are just sitting in some internet cafe not doing a tour of the thousands of polling stations

  35. Just imagine a Zambia with Sata as a president . No way!!!! whatsoever, no way. Mwachepa sana ba kalumendo. Even Chiluba hasn’t voted for him this time. What do you expect? I know KK and his family did not vote for Sata, I did not vote for Sata, my family can never vote for Sata, my kaponya associates just laugh about his comedy, so just how many of you so called PF supporters without membership cards are you? At least MMD and UPND have their membership registers as a basis for their hopes, what about SATA? Voting for an individual’s party – no way!! Democracy at all levels is what Zambia needs and NOT autocracy!!

  36. Indeed the low turn out of voters is saddening and my earnest appeal is that the next government works toward changing the mind set of most of our pipo because they have lost confidence in the government and most of its organs. That’s why i support change to curb complacence. CHANGE IS INEVITABLE PIPO!!!!

  37. AM NOT WORRIED ABOUT THE LOW TURNOUT. MOST PEOPLE I HAVE TALKED TO ARE SAYING THEY ARE VOTING IN THE EVENING FOR FEAR OF LONG QUES IN THE MORNING.

RB MUST FACE THE WRATH OF THE PEOPLE IN THE THEIR RIGHTS.
    THE VOTE WILL TELL HIM.

    RIGGING EVEN MAKE A DIFFERENCE

  38. RB IS NEXT PRESIDENT,NO DOUBT ABOUT THAT,THOSE KAPONYAS WHO WANT SATA TO BE BUYING THEM CHIBUKU WILL BE DISSAPOINTED

  39. #60. NANGU uilishanye shani. ufukame napanshi kuli LESA. AMAKUFI yamokauke. TAPALI ICHOBE BOI.

AND you wont even take a case anywhere. we have already voted him out.

  40. WE TOLD YOU CHAPS THAT THOSE KAPONYAS DO NOT HAVE VOTERS CARDS. MANJE MUZADABWA HHHHHHHHHHH A WINA IVI VI MA ELECTION.. YEMBEKEZANI CHABE. IT IS BETTER TO DEAL WITH 200 REAL VOTERS UNLIKE DEALING WITH 300 KAPONYAS…

  41. #58 be careful! you may be insulting the in-coming President. Don’t make me believe that you are still in the old days! What would you do if he went through? Come and praise him during his burial and add SC[MC SATA State Counsel]. Speak with your vote if you don’t like the Man. What i have come to understand is that PF, Heritage and UPND don’t insult nangu ukushobola umunabo ati apalana ne chinyawu.

  42. Lelo…lelo…lelo..lelo…ubwato bwaisa! Lelo…lelo…lelo..lelo…ubwato bwaisa! Lelo…lelo…lelo..lelo…ubwato bwaisa! Lelo…lelo…lelo..lelo…ubwato bwaisa! Lelo…lelo…lelo..lelo…ubwato bwaisa! 43. #68 IT IS ONLY YOU WHO DON’T UNDERSTAND THAT HHHHHHHHHH IS A REAL PERSON THAT THE COUNTRY NEED IN THIS ERA. I PERSONALLY DON’T CONDENM YOU FOR THINKING IN THOSE LINES BECAUSE I’M AN INTELLECTUAL AND I KNOW THAT YOU WERE ILL TREATED BY YOUR GRAND …GRAND FATHERS LIKE SATANA AND ALSO BECAUSE YOU YOURSELF YOU ARE A TRIBALIST.

  44. Yes I have done it! I have voted for the best candidate!

hey #4, at the time I was voting, the hooligans were nowhere to be seen. It was the people from “mayadi” who were the majority. Infact, its the hooligans who make noise when they know they don’t even have voter’s cards.

  45. the gud thing is you clowns #64,66,72and74 are not in the country to vote.where u fill the page writing pabwato@ #74 it does not make a difference bcos as i said b4 u are not in the country to vote

  46. #68, if you have voted for Sata, you will have yourself to blame should he win and then mess up this country. One can almost be sure of problems should Sata win.

for your own information, PF is the most tribal party with the majority of MPs comming from Sata’s tribe. Now Dan Pule has joined PF.

  47. #68 YOU NEED TO ANALYSE THE NEEDS OF ZAMBIA AND NOT JUST FOLLOWING THE NOSE OF GRADE 3,4,5,6,7 KAPONYAS. PIPO LIKE YOU REQUIRES WIDE THINKING ON BEHALF OF THOSE GRADE 3,4,5S FOR NATION TO GO FOWARD.
NOW TELL ME WHERE ARE THOSE KAPONYAS TODAY???? THEY DON;T EVEN HAVE VOTERS CARDS..

  48. Yazanda. Others even want to use 2001 voter’s cards illiko bad. this only works to the advantage of MMD whose members have not destroyed their cards. We already know who the president is going to be it is just a matter of comfirmation. man!! am feeling good about this.

  49. CALL BOY wat do you know about zed politics,u are in britain for crying out loud, all u know is wat u get on the net.

  50. you know how the ghetto is. There is no place were you can safely store /keep a voter’s card in a ghetto house. so naturally the guy with the biggest ghetto support will lose out . I did not mention any names.

  51. I voted at Chilenje Library at around 07:30, I must mention that I was dispointed with with low turn out compared to the voting we had in 2006 and especially that there were three big rallies yesterday in Lusaka.

After voting I went to Nyumba Yanga to see a freind and on my way I noticed 2 other polling stations, Chilenje Comm. Hall & Woodlands “A” Basic School, where the turn outs were equally poor in my opinion.

I think in my opinion most of the people who were attended the rallies are not registered voters, unless more people went to vote later in the day.

  52. we should try and put the right people in the office, they will look after our old parents. Since there is no retirement benefits in Africa and some young dont look after their parents.

  53. anonymous,u will be dissapointed.u are miles away from zed and you dont know wats goin on,just stick to your prime minister Gordon Brown

  54. Campaigns officially ended yesterday and why are some people still campaiging for hh? Today is polling to vote, forget about our political affiliations and join hands patiently wait for either His honour RB become President. If He doesnt make it then man of action should take over Micheal Chilufya Sata.As for hh let him join other job seekers.

  55. Todays turn is a reflection of what the political climate in the countryis all about. It is not true that bamu maydi are sitting and not voting because they were the first to cast their votes. Everybody relaises that this country needs to go in a particular direction and are doing everything to ensure that the right person comes to power. the only disappointnig thing is that Sata is claiming that the elections have been rigged. This was just after he cast his vote. No I am wondering whether that is not a scared man speaking. By the way where are all those people who were at the various rallies?????

  56. #91 These flags do not mean that one is where the flag is showing, LT has explained this several times. It simply means that the internet you are using has the main server in the country whose flag you are seeing. I am at home in Chilenje South near Shantumbu road using ZAIN (Celetel) internet facility. When I am at the office I use Africonnect internet and a Zambian flag is shown against my blogging name.

If you are in Lusaka I can even tell you what is on ZNBC, MUVI TV and MOVI TV period.

  57. chiluba, kaunda, nevers, BY, tembo, nawakwi, siulapwa, sakwiba, sichone, ngondo, even miyanda – it is not by chance that all these are on the side of humpty dumpty or RB. he has used public funds to pay dirty money to all these hyenas. they are nothing but shameless job-seekers. now, i ask, where will RB get jobs to give to all these sell-outs? NEVERS as a ‘pastor’ is the worst of them – his reference to God and the bible is in vain and outright blasphemy. he is worse than one who has never been to church.

  58. I was just upset at lilanda basic in lsk one of the electral official was drunk. But at least we ve a difference reduction in number leaves much tobe desired.Lusaka am happy only that drunk official who nearly started refusing voting at anyone at loggerheads with him.

  59. Dear LT blogers,i wish we could just wait and see what is next,4theres no nid to insult each otha! Infact pipo in de country are not wastg tym insultg and if we ar to promot peace which has bin our song, then lets continue to promot dat real peace of Christ instead of proving/atackg each otha.

  60. Like Sata said today I was also surprised to see the Army Comm , on ZNBC 19:00hrs,threatening that any one who would cause trouble, the army will deal with them instead of the Inspector of police saying that. I am not condoning violence but it looked strange because that was the first time I saw an army comm commenting on politics instead of the ministers of home afairs and defence.

  61. #102 some few minutes ago MUVI was showing different polling Stations. They showed Chiluba and his Wife were they voted. They Showed HH being intereviewed by various janournalists at Kabulonga boys. They showed somewhat better turnout in Chawama/John Howard than where I voted at Chilenje Library.

  62. EVERYONE IS MISSING THE POINT PIPO DID NOT VOTE IN MASSES BECOZ i many think its useless i for one support none of the candidates so just as well I am not in zed! so how many more are there like me? tho i think RB is really going to pocket money ahh just imagine how many brown envelopes he has unleashed…public funds…chitenges…public funds…i’m sure the bulk of his campaign has used up public funds so really u think he is going to take us forward anytime soon? he has been around since July what has he done really? except try to increase salaries of those ministers while teachers r paid peanuts n u want the standards of education to rise? hehehe very funny indeed!

  63. We told the PF Kaponyaz that they will diappear from this blog. Look whats happening before even the results are out.

  64. Imwe i votd, the queues were js lyk 2006,and wat makes u tink kaponyas are nt pipo..even wen they vote, its beta than nt voting.upnd hav a problem of lack of support, and nw thy are supportin. Mmd,no direction at al..weatha win o lose, its pf 4 us,and we are nt kaponyaz..i wish we cud see sum of u here..

  65. #102 Al Jazeera and CNN refused to cover de elections, but a gal working for BBC tell me seh dem ahready have reporters in Lusaka but dem only a go report in case violence breaks out. Top secret info. but Dread push it good, so she spill de beans…

  66. #112 YOU ARE RIGHT WHY IS IT THAT LT bloggers seem to think they are better pipo than kaponyas just becoz they are ‘well learned’.books aren’t everything, besides if thats what u learnt from sku that u r better than a kaponya just by reason of you education shows just how shallow you are. These r pipo just like you and me and they have a right to vote and their choice will obviously differ from your’s becoz you want to stay in your office n they want to get to a better place too so if they want Sata that does not make them inferior just like it doesnt make another inferior to want RB for ‘continuity’ the point is not to insult each other people vote differently in their personal interest

  67. Let us wait, the game finishes @ 16:00GMT. Wait wait wait. tomorrow we can blogg over the results. Unless you are Vernom then celebrate.

  68. Big up ‘112 and 118, how dem fi dis ghetto pipo so? Dem full up a false pride wid dem bagga Babylon education. Dem deny me bredren dem for simplicity but dem nuh know seh blessed are the poor…so Jah seh.

  69. HH is winning MULADABBWA. ANYWAY DREAM WHILE IT LAST. hA HA.hhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh sATA WILL NEVER RULE ZED BELIEVE IT BLOGGERS. MOST OF THOSE KAPONYA SUPPORTERS OF HIS GAT NO VOTERS CARDS.

  70. 118, THE ISSUE IS NOT ABOUT HATING KAPONYAS, BUT THE BEHAVIOR OF THE LEADER OF THAT PARTY IS NOT BEFITTING A PRESIDENT, FULL STOP. HIS LANGUAGE IS BAD, FULL OF INSULTS. HOW CAN SOMEONE TELL PIPO AT SOME RALLY THAT “SINCE I CAME HERE IN MPIKA, NO ONE HAS POLLUTED (ICISUSHI)THE AIR, IT MEANS YOU ARE HUNGRY”. THAT STATEMENT WAS UTTERED IN LOCAL LANGUAGE, HONESTLY DOES THAT PERSON DESERVE TO BE PRESIDENT,NO NO NO. THAT IS KAPONYA BEHAVIOUR AND WE CANT HAVE A KAPONYA IN STATE HOUSE

  71. Bane a man and woman were caught at town center, the man happens to be some MMD Chairman at town center with ballot papers in his trousers about to stash them in the ballot box……..he was beaten up and taken to central police….whats your comment people???? do we still expect free and fair elections?

  72. Its good the army commander warned some of these chaps. If anything mushili commandos should be on standby to handle those political leaders and their followers who were threatening blood shed over elections. There’re about 12 million zambians and less than 4 million are registered voters meaning the majority of zambians don’t vote! Therefore in the interest of the majority peace just has to be inforced at all costs.

  73. 112..zed politics is a carecature of the real thing…the kaponya mannerz as u say are the crowd pulaz, its charisma in a diffrent form….

  74. To be Honest, If HH won thse elections then you will see that the poor and lowly paid citizens of Zambia will be marginalised and reduced to beggers.
REASON: The so called intellectuals will completely exclude them from participating in National issues affecting them.
From what I have been reading here, the Majority of supporters seem to have avision of an elite Zambia, where not being educated is a major crime carrying a death sentence.
Every one has the right to associate freely and participate in the affairs of theiR state/nation without discrimination.
I URGE UPND SUPPORTERS TO TAKE HEED AND REFRAIN FROM DISCRIMNATION. LEST FORCES OF DARKNESS USE U TO DESTROY YO OWN.

  75. #112 and #118
thanx for puting in some sences into the brains of the srlf proclaimed interlectuals. these pipo don’t even understand that kaponyas have voters cards aswel and most of them are learnt except that thecurrent economy doesn’t have time for them.
DON’T FEAR go to the kaponyas and have an analysis to found out who are as learnt as you are. you will surely be ashamed.

  76. Use that education of yours as voices for the ‘Kaponyas’ and save them stop pushing them away.

    Dear bloggers
YOu wont be hearing from me again, Peace and love all Zambians with open minds and hearts.

  77. #122 I follow this blog WELL ENOUGH to know that sata SUPPORTERS are said to be KAPONYA’S so this is not only in reference to sata himself, because he has a large following with the co boys bus drivers and even kaponya’s so its true i’m not confused about anything here I AM NOT a SATA supporter IN FACT i dont support any PARTY. U CALL SATA A KAPONYA N U HAV A BAD VIEW OF HIM so therefore to u a kaponya is indeed unworthy. so in the end it boils down to u thinking much less of ‘kaponya’s’ or watever kind of pipo fall in that category. N my view is if the ‘kaponya’s’ view is that sata shud be next prez let it be because u r not in the same social class so u will have different views

  78. #118.TRUE LIBERAL Why would one spend yrs in university if at the end of the day you would remain at the same level with a kaponya?Kaponyas are one of the main reasons we need to vote in power a good leader who in turn will reduce the number of kaponyas on the street by providing jobs so that they cease being Kaponyas and also introduce free education so that we prevent many kids from becoming Kaponyas! If you don’t think u will be better than a kaponya after graduating from china then give me reasons why u came to china in the 1st place.U’re not liberal.Dong ma?ni xie de duo shi fei hua le!ni duo da le?

  79. The presidential candidate with a big rural vote will carry the day. The candidate with farmers as supporters will equally do well. Rural people do not usually migrate. The person to be affected negatively most is the one with large urban support. Urban dwellers migrate from one town to the other and may not vote. Sata will lose dearly because he depends on urban support. Most of them have moved from lusaka and C/B to solwezi and livingstone. Kaponyas also migrate heavily and this will make sata lose.

  80. I hav e a frnd wth whom i cmplete grade 12 wth hm.today he is a bus driva..for those of u hu ko them kaponya, mind u he has bn to tht level of education, and im sure there are many more,so evn as thy suport their various choices, they hav ideals in their heads, and in case u dont knw, very few of the elite vote here, besides ,they are a minority..so dnt despise them if ur prefered cndidates cudnt conect wth them, leta on hav a chnce of getin their votes..

  81. Think

I do not know why some of you fail to think. Do you expect all people at the rallies to vote at one polling station? Please think?

  82. ha ha#122 sata is really a lunatic honestly how does a man of his age crack such a silly jock anyway am not surprised he’s got diarrhoe of the mouth.

  83. If the Son of Man wud come again in flesh to dwell amongst I and I today, he would probably choose to take Kaponya status and the “well-educated” Scribes and Pharisees would crucify him again!

  84. PIPO,lets think, how do u know all those pipo who are not voting are for pf.let me tell you something, all those few turn outs u seeing are for sata because they want change.
dont be judgemental, all those votes are for sata, mmd supporters know tapali ichabo,so its better they stay home.
    think pipo!
    natuwina kale,tamumfwile kanshi?
    pabwatooooooooooooooooooooooo
    VIVA PF!VIVA SATA

  85. #131 WILL I be better than a kaponya, maybe i will know more in sciences and some other areas because i have had the chance to learn it,n do u really believe that just going to school will really decrease kaponya’s? How many people finished grade 12 r on the streets and worse still how many University graduates r on the street? I may be more educated but it doesn’t mean that kaponya’s have no intelligence. THEY R SMART ENOUGH TO analyse what they think is best FOR THEM,of course not all of them are smart but u will truly be shcoked to know that many pipo get there out of circumstances beyond their control they may even have better analytical skills than u realise

  86. FRED MMEMBE MUST BE DEPORTED TOGETHER WITH SATA. LELO LELO BA PF. YOU THOUGHT YOU WERE CLEVER. NOW YOU HAVE TO PAY THE DEBTS YOU INCURRED ON CHARTERING THE COPTER. MMD 1 PF NOTO

  87. Every one get this straight, who ever told you that the description of kaponya only applies to the unschooled was wrong. people regard your behaviour as a kaponya based on your way of handling other people’s beliefs. Kaponyas will push an agenda whether it works for you or not and you usually risk being allinated if you do not agree with them. they will call you names and what not. They talk loudest even if they no least about anything. they think you are elitist when opt to stay calm and allow civility in resolving a problem. Its not that they are not schooled but it is a school of social behavior they subscribe to.

  88. HH is winning like or not.Its good that Zambians are clever pipo they are not easily carried away with wind.Zambians know what they want.

  89. #140.TRUE LIBERAL Pengyou,ni xiang yi xiang, hao ba?Why would one who is educated be on the streets as a kaponya in the 1st place?I thot u being in china wuld understand better that an educated person shuld not end up on the streets bcoz the greatest thing one shuld get out of being educated is 2 think thru a problem & difficult situation under difficult circumstances and then come up with a better solution than what an uneducated fella would come up with! The reason u learn all those hard calculus and difficult courses is to open up your mind to think differently from a street boy who has never been to sch.How can one be said 2b more analytical if such a one can’t analyse his own situation?

  90. Voting is usually a calm atmosphere but what will cause animosity is the counting and the results part of the Zamabia Electral process. Peace be with all Zambian in the interest of our beloved country.

  91. I noticed another strange thing from the PF supporters today. In 2006, the bus drivers made a lot of noise along Chilimbulu Road while the voting was going on. Today I saw none of them.

wina azalila. And for the old candidates, losing today will be a big blow to their carreers.

  92. #144 Anonymous. Good point.
Actually i think that being a kaponya is some kind of culture that some adopt in order to survive. Some are quite educated right but to survive and fit in, they adopt unruly behaviour. Without that behaviour they cant make money. No parent wants their child to be a kaponya so it is not good to be a kaponya. Some were pretty descent guys when they left G12. Kaponyas need to be helped out of that situation. Of course education brings sanity as it develops the mind and jobs bring respect. What we need is education and jobs. It’s not so much about money as there are many low paid people who don’t exhibit kaponya behaviour.

  93. #140.TRUE LIBERAL, Bro lets be honest here.Do u really believe that Just finishing G12 is enuf 2 secure one a gud life?Lets be honest, most of those pipo u say hav finished G12 and are on the streets didn’t do well at G12.I hav many friends who finished G12 wit me and are on the streets and most of them got very bad results.I’m yet to meet one wit six points who is on the streets as a Kaponya. If one has graduated wit some degree and has ended up on the street as a Kaponya then such a one is not educated in the head despite holding those papers but I can assure u that a graduate might hav difficulties finding a job but thats a temporal problem & can’t make one end up as a Kaponya.

  94. the boat is sailing pa plot 1. Akhulu Mpuno and Kafupi milimuchibe. Makali one is going to be President. Pabwatoooooooooooooooooooo

  95. The other thing is that kaponyas get into a state of mind where they kind of cut themselves from the rest of society, like rebels. With that they think those are those us are us, that the rest are on top of a mountain while they are down below. That gives them a militant spirit. They rage war at anyone – man, woman, child, innocent people. They call you boss in one word the next moment they insult you, and you haven’t done anything wrong. Now to have that behaviour in State House is serious. Look at Mugabe, he used to be cool but now he’s a Kaponya to some extent. Expect anything when he opens his mouth.

  96. Also let us not forget those who dropped off at G7 and G9. Actually there are more who drop off at this level than at G12. The proportion of those who reach G12, let alone Univ or college is so. So the majority in Zambia have low education, a breeding ground for kaponya behaviour because they already feel left out. This subculture is a time bomb, just like street kids. They grow up alienated. Our Govt needs to seriously plan for these two groups or else they will aim to share the national cake, by whatever means possible. Even the wealth of those with jobs – cars and household goods. May be even clothes from your widow.

  97. True liberal & Anatola..the china fellaz..i’m enjoying ur constuctive debate..At present i seem 2 b siding with true liberal for his well thought out comments thus far..keep it cumin fellas..Nimen juede shei ying le??

  98. Pipo even a country lyk USA wth al those universities and coleges,nt evry 1 has gne tht far in education..we cnt hav a society wth 1 clas..zed politics cn not js strive n the so called elite or intelectuals…kaponyaz are very useful in society…

  99. Thank you Zambians from Central, Copperbelt, Eastern, Luapula, Lusaka, Northern, Northwestern, The Southern and Western Provinces for voting wisely. Together, Yes we have done it. The end.
Special thanks to all LT bloggers especially those who did not insult anyone. PF cadres, it was great noting how focussed you were: the ‘pabwato’ thingy by you was constant and it normally made my fellow HH supporters lose hope time-and-again until I would boost HH supporters morale. MMD cadres,it was a good run with you too. HP, sorry but try again to put up a good support. As for my fellow the UPND’s HH support base, it was great meeting you and participating in a noble cause to develop Zambia together.

  100. Anonymous your description of Kaponya is apt. Great stuff there. Its nothing to do with school and qualification but BEHAVIOUR BANE!

  101. I’ve always been amazed by the so-called “educated” not only on this blog, but in Zambia. For some reason, they tend to associate their education with intelligence, and even elections! I’ve seen so many here call others “Kaponyas” and link that group of people to a particular political party. Strangely, it is the uneducated in this country that are in the majority and at every election since Zambia’s independence, it is the same “uneducated” who have turned up time after time to vote – as we have been told 80 per cent of the voters are from rural areas in every election.

  102. #160 so are you surprised that we have bad leaders and bad decisions? In most rural communities people are easy to please satisfy their needs e.g fertiliser and you are a great leader for the educated things are different. they will think about agriculture in broad terms, education , industrialisation etc. If education really does not matter then why did you go to school and why do you send your children to school? its already explained kaponya does not mean scorn on the less educated but a name for the uncouth and unmannered guys.

  103. Cont’d…So what’s your point in trying to put down the so-called “Kaponyas”? May of you so-called educated are the very ones who are too proud to go out and vote, but the first ones to cry for democracy. Id1ots! Whatever the outcome of today’s elections, you all deserve what’s coming to you.

  104. #162 we are speaking the same language. because the ‘educated think they are to smart for politics and call it a dirty game. when voting they seat back and watch from their TV’s . Let them face it! But the fact that you are uneducated does not mean you have to behave like a Kaponya! you can be uneducated and behave in a civilised manner..

  105. Lt you are in Lusaka and you cannot report about lusaka elections and the kaponyas who made noise yesterday and only to report about a far town L/stone. What do you fear about HH. shame upon you

  106. #164. Teti, spot on! On one hand they want the educated to run for political office on the backs of the uneducated; while on the other hand, they are unwilling to get of their fat you-know-what to go and cast their votes. If being uneducated were linked to bad behaviour, we wouldn’t be having the contemptible behaviour we see every year at the University of Zambia and other so-called institutions of learning, somne of them even called “higher learning”!!

  107. what do you expect? cadres generals isaac chisuzi and eliad mutwale have been threatening soldiers and now the nation.

  108. It must be realised that in attraction of objectivity the person who is to carry the day is the one with structures and sober support.

  109. I cast my vote on HH…..
I had a chance to go into town and a lot of the call boys were still in town nursing hangovers…. i was going for the fingure

May the best man win… Lusaka central

  110. All those criticising Kaponyas, remember that circumstances make people who they are. No one was born a Kaponya, or a hustler but they are forced to do so because of the rough life they face. In Gernman they say “Things remain the same while people are different”

  111. Folks I cannot seem to see any reason of you voting for octagenarians! That is the reason why the Government civil service requires that you retire at the age of 55 years. Messrs Sata and Banda are above the retirement age and should recoil in the comfort of their retirement. There incistence on running for public office shows one flawed thing about their character. Take heart countrymen, we shall be liberated one day soon!

  112. The ship has already been turned away from South Africa and Mozambique. The Chinese vessel was said to be bound for Angola but the US is reported to be pressuring port authorities there and in Namibia not to allow them to dock. The ship, which had been anchored off the port of Durban for four days, was forced to move on Friday after a South African court refused. Despite reports the ship was heading for Angola, but Angolan Ports Filomeno Mendonca said the vessel had not asked for permission to dock in Angola. This ship has not sought request to enter Angolan territorial waters and it’s not authorised to enter Angolan ports,” he told local radio. A South African military spokesman has said th

  113. #114, hey man ,you the maan… pushing all those pretty tings… do us a favour and stop telling us about your sexual exploits and go for VCT… you might be transmitin somting more than the info you tink you getin

  114. Chisuzi is not a cadre he had information that some people wanted to do a ‘Kenya’ . And on the other hand did you know that in Zambia a new President almost automatically means a new army commander? So whether he speaks or not he will either be fired when sata wins or be kept when RB wins. He has no option.

  115. Pa bwato!!!!!!!!!!!!!!Aye kona ….Si ti funa under 5 nthau yake si ena fike. Twatotela bro’s sis for voting peacefully.. Tu le chetekela ati ba kulu mphuno ndiye ba tuteka chaka chi no. Pa Bwato

  116. Final boarding call for the titanic at owner’s risk overloaded with insults, kaponyas, axes and about to sink. I repeat boarding at owner’s risk!

  117. Things in Lusaka are the same as last time (2006); PF leading about 3-1 in most places. Like Kabwata PF had more than 600 while MMD and UPND had about 200. Munali was 400-something with RB 119.

  122. #11, ndalumba kapati. #36, a word of encouragement to all, in 2006 while studying in South Africa during a similar election result anxiety period, I congratulated Mr Micheal Sata for winning the Presidential election way before all the results from all constituencies came in. However, it so happened that Mr Sata lost those elections terribly where by he got 29% and late Former Zambian LP Mwanawasa won with 43-6%. To this end,I learnt my lessons. In Bemba, they say “ukutangila tekufika.” Remember,a similar thing happened to late Mazoka in 2001. My former history teachers used to say “history repeats iself.” In light of all this, I urge all Zambians to keep cool and wait for the final results.

  125. ITS NOW TIME PF AND UPND POOLED THEIR RESOURCES (VOTES) TO DISLODGE MMD. THIS IS THE CALL FROM EVERY WELL MEANING ZAMBIAN WITH INTEREST AT HEART TO DEVELOP ZAMBIA. WE ZAMBIANS ARE HUMBLY ASKING BOTH PARTIES TO BURY THEIR HATCHETS AND JOIN HANDS. WE DO NOT WANT MMD/UNIP AGAIN. THERE IS TOO MUCH POVERTY IN THE COUNTRY WITH ALMOST EVERYTHING. TO PUT IT SIMPLY, PF, UPND PLEASE PUT TOGETHER YOUR VOTES AND KICK OUT MMD. THANKS.
