Republican President, Rupiah Banda, disclosed today that he would travel to South Africa this Saturday to attend the Heads of State and Government emergence Summit.

The President said he would brainstorm on the formulation and possibly consider announcing the new Cabinet after returning from the emergence Heads of State and Government Summit.

Mr Banda was responding to questions from journalists immediately after taking a photo shoot for his official portrait at ZANIS studios today.

“On Saturday I will be traveling to South Africa to attend the emergency AU Heads of State Summit, so when I return I will think about when to announce my Cabinet,” President Banda hinted.

He, however, reiterated his gratitude to all Zambians who rendered support during the elections.

Mr Banda was elected republican President in the October 30 Presidential elections following the untimely death of President Mwanawasa.

And President Banda says he is impressed with the manner in which the United States of America elections were conducted.

  16. I like his sober mind. We dont need a leader who is shouting everywhere and backtracking on his words every day. RB is a sober and very careful leader. Some people might think he is delaying because of their own anxieties. RB is moving at a good careful pace. The situation was going to be reasonably different, I believe, if at all it was the beginning of a new term, where you have new parliament and you need new cabinet quickly as you would not need to keep a vacume for too long. But government is working, cabinet is alive working; why the hurry is some people want to satisfy their anxieties? His cabinet will infact come as though a mere reshaffle, why panic instead of doing a good job.

  21. What then was the rush for being sworn-in? I thought it was for getting to work immediately. There is no sense of urgency in this man, mwe bantu!! Given the pressing issues that need urgent presidential and cabinet attention, I don’t see how any serious person will be deferring such an important task until he has thought about it. Presido RB thinking about what? What have you been doing all this time anyway? Look at the real President Obama. Just elected, not yet sworn-in but yet within 24 hrs he will start announcing his transition govt. Zedian leaders are incorrigibles. Ni bakalyafye bamambala.

  27. RB is delaying in appointing his new cabinet because he doesnt want to disappoint Mpombo, Teta and other minions who greatly supported him to his position. They now deep down their hearts that Nchito yasila on their part because of the family tree. The greatest challenge he has now is on the veep who will definately also, like him ofcourse, will come from nowhere amid tight expectations.

RB please the VIP should come from any of these Areas we need to maintain these strongholds for the MMD remember the Vision is 2030 middle income income Zambia.     The practice in MMD is that one who delivers a province takes the Vip position in this case He/She must come from one of the following provinces Northwestern, Western and Central. This is the only way we in MMD can retain our strong holds in these areas forget about eloqeuncy its time to work. All the provinces i have listed have capable made in abundance so its not a deficult choice. Remember Vision 2030 to make zambia a middle income economy so we must be in power upto then to execute this promise to completion.

Its true that millers are to blame for the high prices on the market.The problem is that the so called investors want to take advantage of the zambians by leaping more than they sore.we zambians are to blame as well,over dependance on maize meal as staple food has worsened the situation.We have a variety of food staffs in zambia and Africa in general but we dont know what to do with it.Cassava that we ignore in zambia as village food,in Nigeria a nutritious and palatable meal is extracted from cassava traditionaly and cheaply.WE ARE BLESSED WITH MORE FOODS BUT…..

  188. RB’s sleeping pattern requires urgent investigation. Decisions taken by RB so far indicate that he is still asleep, it is hard for RB to get his priorities correct.

PF) fan but I am thinking who in this Party can take over from Sata because right now from the way he is going on with the temper and all; he may suffer a fatal heart attack that may kill him.   190. the sooner y’all begin to accept RBB’s win the better so that we move on and prepare to oust the MMD in 2011 after all its only in 24 months which is a short time. The opposition should change tactics. Concentrate in areas where they lost. Period

  191. you can never satisfy a Zambian. You get elected as pressie you come into office with a bang it becomes a problem. You sit down to collect your thoughts so that you map out your work properly it becomes a problem. Try being pressie for a year…

    I don’t think RBB’s going to change anything but I advise to retain Dora Siliya (of Folotiya fame), Masebo, Chituwo, magande, namugala.

    Then RBB; Someone should lock Fred Mmembe up and throw away the key oin the Bermuda triangle. For real, he is dangerous even to us the PF supporters. H emay do more harm than good. Sata, Scott and Lubinda take note. Runaway from Fred and never look back.
