Vehicle knocks down13 roadside traders

Share

AN angry mob on Sunday evening burnt a vehicle at Chililabombwe’s Mine Market after it sweved off the road and ploughed through a group of thirteen people who were later admitted to Konkola Mine Hospital.

Chililabombwe District Commissioner Timothy Musonda told ZANIS in an interview that the driver of the vehicle lost control and hit into the 13 people who were trading on the road side around 19:00 hours.

Mr. Musonda said the incident upset the on-lookers who pounced on the seemingly drunk driver and beat him up before setting the vehicle ablaze.

He said the mob became riotous and started throwing stones at vehicles but the Police moved in and restored order. By press time,  five of the accident victims were discharged from the hospital.

  1. It’s a lesson for those who trade by roadside. They don’t know a place called “market”. Let them learn. It is sad that pipo were hurt.

  2. terrible development. Why do these chaps drink and drive?hope the condition is stable for the 13.
    police lock him up..

  3. Sorry for the innocent victims. The driver should be jailed. Those who stoned other vehicles should be punished as well. Why stone the innocent. This is lawlessness by the drunk driver and the stone throwers.

  4. pipo dont fear cars these days! others even want to be bashed so that they can have money for capital in terms of compensation not realising that they could die and not get the so called capital. The laws shud be stiff on both parties driver and pedestrian as well. in most cases its the driver who is penalised forgetting the dangerous footer who puts the motorist and his passengers at risk in trying to avoid these incosiderate pedestrians.

  5. People should learn to be serious with there lives, how does someone go to an extent of trading by the road side? I hope they have learnt a lesson. Just drive through Lumumba road in Lusaka with heavy duty trucks, some people display their back in the main highway.

  6. This is in chilis where mmd won. So you mmd stop that uncalled for behaviour. Yes the both the driver and people selling were wrong but you cant stone innocent people. shame on you mmd cadres.

  7. The 13 pedestrisns should be charged for careless trading while the driver should be charged for careless driving.

  8. PLEASE PEOPLE LET US GO TO THE MARKETS,YOU KNOW UKULI ISUMA TAKULEPA IYOO.EVEN IF ALL OF YOU GO TO THE MARKERTS WE WILL STILL BE FOLLOWING YOU TO BUY .THE PROBLEM IS CREATED BY YOURSELVES BY BEING DIVIDED, OTHERS SELL IN MARKERTS AND OTHERS ON THE ROADSIDE, IF YOU ALL IN ONE PLACE THERES NO PROBLEM WITH US COMING WHERE EVER YOU MAY BE

  9. Its like all of you guys have been away for long. It is so conjested in the evenings with all these people selling along the roadside where their saftey is not garanteed. As much as it is sad but it also saves as a lesson to the traders. I know times are hard back home but the risk they undertake is too much with all these careless drivers around.

  10. How are you guys criticising the traders? Were they on the actual road? They could just as easily have been walking by the side of the road ala

  11. ANY UNRULY BEHAVIOUR IS ASSOCIATED WIT PF : THESE ARE THUGS,KAPONYAS WHO HAVE EARNED THEIR LIVES THRU SELLING SWEETS ON THE CORRIDORS,ROAD SIDES ETC.BASH THEM AND CAGE THEM TOGETHER WITH THE DRUNKEN DRIVER.

PF IS STINKING PARTY OF VIOLENCE.IT MUST BE BANNED,SATA ARRESTED FOR TREASONN.

  12. #17. There is indeed an element of truth in the profile of the majority of PF supporters as kaponya types. The country needs to be very careful with this group of people. They must be re-educated & get integrated into the mainstream of good citizenry. If not, we’re courting the Ivory Coast senario under Gbagbo.

  13. How is the syllabus at our driving schools.Do they include defensive driving as well? Because what I know is that “WHEN YOU DRIVE DON’T DRINK AND WHEN YOU DRINK DON’T DRIVE”. If this driver was drinking he should have given the vehicle to a friend.and should have avoided all these problems he has created for himself. Oh no! He must be a Bemba. These Bembas have no paddling schools mwe bantu.

  14. Somebody has just informed me that PF were planning to protest against this driver but when they discovered that he is a Bemba they are right now marching towards the police station to bail him out. And it wont be difficult because about four or five police officers have already received some bribes.

  15. about bribs something must be done.pay he plice well and the will avoid bribs.mwi ba tumpika ba kapokola by giving them money.it is their duty to protect as.ni ba malonda ba chalo.

  16. Another NEWS item jst recieved is that PF cadres are demostrating over the arrest of the driver after news went round that he is one of there own.

  17. Reliable sources say that the driver was is a reknowned PF cadre who thought he was driving Ubwato. The vendors are also PF cadres who were cheering the the driver until he pranged the ubwato into them.Passersby other Pf cadres decided to beat thier fellow PF cadre shouting ”Amaka, amaka, ” eventualy they set the ubwato ablaze. The matter is now an agenda item in the PF central committee meeting.

  18. hey guys i want to warn you to be xtra careful this festive season from the pangs and druken drivers becoz spare parts for models like you are hard to find. seasonal greetings to you loud mouths, provocative and amazing bloggers. guys you are simply wonderful

  20. PEOPLE OF CHILILABOMBWE SHOULD BE CAREFULL ON HOW THEY REACT TO CERTAIN ISSUES ,THEY ARE FORGETTING THAT KONKOLA STADIUM IS HOME GROUND TO THE ZAMBIA NATIONAL SENIOR SOCCER TEAM FOR ALL INTERNATIONAL FOOTBALL ENGAGEMENTS.SUPPOSE FIFA DECIDES THAT THEY TOWN IS NOT SAFE FOR FOOTBALL MATCHES, WE SHALL END UP PLAYING IN SOUTH AFRICA ,ZIMBABWE ,MALAWI OR TANZANIA FOR ALL HOME MATCHES, AS THE CASE WAS WITH TOGO WHO WERE PLAYING IN GHANA,-BWANA DC TALK TO YOUR RESIDENTS ,THERE ARE TOO MANY STONE THROWERS IN C/BOMBWE.TRADERS SHOULD ALSO AVOID SETTING UP TUNTEMBAS TOO CLOSE TO THE MAIN ROADS ,LUSAKA IS EVEN WORSE.

  21. ala. this driver should have been beaten more than he got. You plough through my sister or brother? i will follow you and fix you. they should have tied him up and humiliated him in town by dragging him naked with no bamba na matako panja. what if those people had died?Ni galu ya banji yamene he chita vya so? Chipuba chabe mwe

  22. # 1 & 17
