Rangers Relegated, Arrows Shoot to Second

Share

There was some late drama on the final day of the season but no whishes came true for either Power Dynamos or Nchanga Rangers.

Rangers longest run record in the league ended when they were demoted for the first time ever despite winning 2-1 away to Roan United today at Kafubu Stadium in Luanshya.

Meanwhile, 10-man Power lost 3-0 away to Red Arrows to see the hosts cement their second place in the final round of league games and secure that final continental club cup berth in the Confederations Cup next year.

Rangers go down after finishing in 13th place level on 35 points with Lusaka Dynamos who survived thanks to a better goal difference despite going down 3-1 away to relegated and bottom placed Green Eagles.

Rangers last win in the top-flight came after rallying from 1-0 courtesy of goals from Boyd Chanda and Kelvin Mwelwa in the 44th and 76th minutes respectively.

This is after Roan had taken the lead in the 27th minute.

And at Nkoloma Stadium, Power’s hopes of playing in Africa for the first time since 2003 ended in disaster when they were crushed three-without-reply by Arrows.

Powers downfall begun in the 25th minute when Laughter Chilembe was sent off by referee Cornelius Mwanza after an off-the-ball incident before remonstrating with the official who did not hesitate to show him red.

Arrows then turned on the screw with goals from Agrippa Mbewe who scored the opener in the 37th minute from a tight angle after some slapstick defending by Perry Mubanga and his goalkeeper Evans Mwewa.

Namez Macha scored a brace with two thumping strikes in the 69th and 76th minutes to see Arrows secure second place on 48 points and a return to Africa after their 2005 misadventure.

  1. #3 Anony, kapenta is rich in proteins and much better than french fries and greasy burgers, which only shoot up your choleseral level and jeopardizes your heart function.

  2. I do not even care now. I was born and bred on the CB. The time Kafupi sold the mines was the time Zambia should have stopped thinking about competing.

  3. Nine Chale I know you are not into medicine.

You are an African, and yes a black man. You can eat junk and never have a heart attack.

  4. #4. I share your views. I wrote to kafupi about the dangers of destroying the development of sport and the youth when he divided a football pitch at my former primary school and allocated plots to party cadres. We all now can see that the development of sport in Zambia will require a genius of a head of state. Can you imagine Nkana being relegated, Nchanga Rangers, Mufulira Wanderers, just what would one imagine about Zambian football. Kafupi and his tandem of thieves must be reminded about these things. He cost us the best footballers we have ever produced and has shown no remorse about it. Can we formally petition that Kafupi be prosecuted for destroying sports development in Zambia?

  5. #8 I was so much into sport though my mother never consented.

I remember going to tournaments in Kabwe from the CB as an under 12. ZCCM sponsored!

  6. Anony, I don’t have to study medicine to know that kapenta is good food. Granny used to “kwangula” it without saladi…delicious! Yanjani, never mind what it looks like. Nkhumba looks like it has a human face and is smiling at you.
Matworld, tatusebene iyo. Nchelenge is just a small part of the great Bemba kingdom.

  7. #10, it also took me a lot of time to understand the value of sport. A lot of parents think sports are useless but there is a lot of personal development one gains from sport. It is not just exercise but even the level of concentration required can train one’s mind and give them mental strength. Our parents always thought the only valuable thing was reading and listening to teachers. I am sure Kafupi who used to be a Power Dynamos supporter never understood. For him, it was an opportunity to be seen and criticise KK. Every time Kafupi spoke, he criticised KK even for very good things. Childish politics that earned him the presidency. What a country?

  8. Nine Chale you are number 13 and if you believe the bazungus! lol!

I was responding to your #3post. The bazungus will tell you burgers are unhealthy but trust me not for an African man, let alone black person like you.

You can eat junk day in and day out and never have a heart attack.

I bet you have been back home and people have come to you saying namwina elyo namukashika!

  9. Mbeba is a good delicacy. Kapenta too is good. The best of them all is vinkubala. Well, I eat anything irrespective of where it comes from. But honestly, we need to commercialise vinkubala – there is a huge market amongst my colleagues from all over Africa and some bazungus as well particularly in Holland. Can Sata lead the way? At least we can curb malnutrition. Sata and Chiluba, please take the lead. Do something productive. RB appoint Sata as the Vinkubala Business Development Director. Appoint Chiluba as the local Vinkubala Mobilising Manager.

  10. Stop talking about Vinkhubala, you are now reminding me of what the police did to me at OR Tambo Airport in february. They got all my groundnuts and Vinkhubala and threw them in the Bin.Ala It pained me such that I almost Manhandled them,

  11. Who are the current Nchanga Rangers players? Is it those boys I used to train with in the junior team at Whiteson stadium and drink shakers with? the likes of Boyd Chanda, Maybin Mwaba, Ziyoyo so called Dida, and many other duds. I told the boys to work extra hard if possible look for better teams, cause there was no future at Rangers. Too bad anyway. I just hope the guys wont just start drinking too much, Hard luck guys I’ll be home soon.

  12. Zambian striker Collins Mbesuma scored a brace for his struggling side Mamelodi Sundowns on Wdenesday night to propel the Henri Michel coached to a 3-0 victory over Maritzburg United.

South African midfielder cum striker Surprise Moriri put the Brazilians ahead in the 69th minute and 16th minute Mbesuma drilled left-footed (bottom-left of goal) from centre of penalty area (18 yards) to make it 2-0.

Mbesuma who was starting his first match since Zambia’s 1-0 win over Togo in September showed the former Ivory Coast, France and Morocco why he is should be his first choice striker when his scored his second on the night. The Luanshya born-striker right-footed (bottom-left of goal) fr

  13. Even if they commercialise Vinkubala, you guys won’t get them in your local markets. They won’t be exported cos RB’s gvt is already talking about banning export for ubunga.

  14. cos the Chines are running the mines and they don’t have time for football. They come to zed to make money not to spend money.

  15. Can you imagine how Dennis Liwewe feels about Zambian football? Every international match was a real national event country wide even the remotest area, everyone wanted to have a two band radio to listen to Liwewe’s commentaries when the KK XI or the big teams were playing. I do recall waking up at 0500AM to go to the stadium in order to secure my favorite gate D seat when the KK XI were playing. We would seat waiting patiently until 1:30 when the KK XI properly guarded would come for a warm up and at 2:30pm Dennis would announce the line up. And then the main man KK would arrive to the applause of the whole stadium. Those were times. A good farm was spoiled by a useless Kafupi. Shame!

  16. Kalampa surely did not deserve to go down, they put up a gallant fight through out the season. But for the 3 points docked, they would have ended the season on 36 points. Handing the abandoned game to the opponents was enough punishment – docking points was a bit over board.

  17. Too bad for Brave Rangers!! This team is based right in the HQ of KCM. Wonder why this company couldn’t pump more money in this club but opted to sponsor the league. Its like a rich father who decides to sponsor Children in his community neglecting his own children in his house

  18. l would like to take this opportunity to advice Copperbelt Energy Mgt to remove people like Eddigar Mvula in the mgt of sport at Power as he is applying old mgt styles. The game with Arrows was a serious match & had to be taken and prepared with caustion. The camping period should have been extended to move away some players who would fall prey to bribes or induciments, the conduct of players should have been closely watched. The coaches should take a leaf from late B Bamfuchile’s mgt style of players.Players should have been phycologically prepared. The team Power was playing is a lsk team which was to enjoy home advantage and looking at the seriousness of the game, there would high chances(next)

  19. Owee ba Nkana naba Rangers muleke ifyongo, its not the end of the world organise yourselves, naimwe ba Roan improve noti kumuchila wa table

  20. #Cont.33,of match officials being bribed.Eddigar should stop making unnecessary statements to the public on :
    a)The Stadium
    b)Mgt of players
Eddigar we are very upset, we will can and cage you,you such people who are bring the game of sport down,Copperbelt Energy Mgt should remove this person all else we will raise. The Chairman of Power seems to be weak over this man who can’t even grow maize how can he grow grass on the pitch. The isue of the stadium, improper mgt of the team all contribute negatively on the team, shaem on you.The reputation of Copperbelt energy is nothing to go by with such individuaLs.Lets caltivate in the community if we are to stand and build a better Company.

  21. Sad turn for RANGERS,am sure all soocer loving fans are wondering what happens to TANA now.Two things,he continues playing for Rangers and he is guaranteed a regular place at rangers in div 1,does it do any good for a player of TANA’s calibre to play div 1 football more especialy that he is one of our top defenders in the country, the other possible option is for him is Power or Roanie, but again maybe he wont be guaranteed a regular spot and might end up losing his current form and consequently lose his spot ku squad.Power Dynamos should be TANA’s best option, more especialy that there is fodson kabole a coach who natured and groomed him at Blades and later Rangers ,though staying at RANGERS i

  22. a disappointed kabwe warriors fan. Warriors have just given it away this time around. The just ended league was theirs…..

  23. #10, is that why you’re such a success now? Your mother is always right…if you didn’t listen, you’d have been playing football in Division 3 wearing tackies.

  24. Too bad for Nkana & Rangers’ supporters us we are even used. ‘Mighty’ Mufulira Wanderers’ Supporter. Its for better for worse baba nangu bakaye mu Division 4, ni ‘Mighty’ wandi I will die with Mufulira Wanderers **==

  25. Hey fellow bloggers

I have Decided to Change my name with immediate effect. Reason being, there is another person on this blog who is claiming to be Baby C. Only God Knows why. I love my Nick, but i have no option… Sorry my dear bloggers.

To the fake Baby C, you can go on and have that name, I don’t care. But ulichipuba!

    Ba Moze welcome back.

  26. too bad bravo i realy miss those days aylo twaleya kugabi staduim to the likes of zifa nkoma, “skadi” ackson shimbala nama tampo yakwe may the soul rest in peace kwena chakalipa ba rangers echo mwachita.

  27. Ranger nga talipo bonse ni ba ngwele!!
iyo kwena bol yapa zambia nayipwa MANJANJA MU 1???
NO wonder we have a POOR NATIONAL team if i was home i would go watch division 1 footbal!!=))

    Ba soko eee o yaye!!:((:((:((:((:((

  28. CAN SOME ONE GIVE US THE BEST REASON WHY WE SHOULD HAVE AN ASSOCITION LIKE FAZ IN THIS COUNTRY, ZAMBIANS IN DIASPORA:Mule-umfwafye ifintu fyalipena pa zambia, BUSHE MWALYUMFWAKO ATI KWALIBA NE TEAM LYA BOLA ATI ZESCO?: IT’S A HIGH TIME THAT WE START ACCEPTING SOME OF THE OUT COMES IN ZAMBIAN SOCCER, BECAUSE EVEN KAPAMBWE MULENGA USE TO DRINK CHIBUKU BUT THE PERFORMANCE WAS EXCELLENT, LOOK AT THE TOP SCORER IN THE LEAGUE, 13 GOALS THE WHOLE SEASON AND YOU THINK THIS COUNTRY CAN HOST ALL AFRICA GAMES, GO TO THE WORLD CUP, TURN INDEPENCE STADIUM IN A MODERN STADIU….IT’S A FAR FACHED DREAM, LET’S FORGET JUST CONCENTRATE ON COSAFA!!!

  29. Its very sad. 20 yrs ago,the Table would have been upside dwn with Nkana , Rangers the top two. The performance of the mines in the recent past have had negative impact on soccer.Sponsorship for most CB teams have been on a low if not, just running on charity. No proper investment for the future.I remember the likes of Gilbert Mukumbo, Manfred Chabinga,G Mulenga,it was a real beauty to watch Rangers against the likes of Alex Chola, Peter Kaumba,Emmanuel Musonda. One could easily state the probable line up of any CB team. Cureently its tol difficult for me,worse the National team.We need to go back to the drwing board, idntify potential talent ,nature it-ensure dispine ensues.

  30. Do all of you bloggers know why Zesco has won the league for two years running? It is because it is the best sponsored team in this country. This is the reason why they have even won the cups. For Nkana, they were the best sponsored those years and they were winning. Now balalila fye ichimbala na tobomutwe for breakfast what do you expect? So sponsorship of football is poor countrywide. People with money or a lot of companies are not willing to spend a lot of money on football. This is the reason why mining team are not as good as those days.

  31. Am a Ndola resident and am happy to see Zesco as champions for two seasons and they will continue wining until other teams improve there sponsorship.

  32. Nkana have to be burried in the lower division for their misconduct. We dont want wrestlers and kaponyas like Nkana supporters.
Too bad for Rangers,it is a disciplined team and hope they wont rot in the lower division.

  33. Sure Brave Rangers sure! Ba FAZ you have heard FIFA announcing yesterday that it will help clubs that are financially broke. Please quickly send a financial SOS to FIFA for Nkana, Mighty, Nchanga, Roan,so that our football can be revived. Hurry this is no joke.

  34. Also I think demoting four teams is a bit too much for a 16 team league. FAZ should change these archais rules. Ku Engalande there are 20 teams.
