Govt. releases K9.4 billion for road rehabs in Lundazi district.

Share

Government, through Zambia Wildlife Authority (ZAWA), has released K9.4 billion for the rehabilitation of three dilapidated government roads in three chiefdoms in Lumezi constituency of Lundazi district.

The three roads are in Malambo valley in the district.

Eastern Province Minister, Isaac Banda, revealed that three Chipata based contractors have since been identified and have already working on them projects.

Mr. Banda, who is also Lumezi Member of Parliament (MP), was speaking yesterday when he paid courtesy call on chief Chikomeni during his continued familiasation tour of Lundazi district.

Mr. Banda disclosed that out of the K9.4 billion, K3.5 billion has been awarded to Nakangeta Enterprises to rehabilitate Chikomeni-Mwanya road through Lukusuzi national park.

He said K1.4 billion has been given to Ansel General Dealers to repair Mwanya-Chitungulu through Luambe national park while K4.5 billion has been awarded to Shachitali contractors to on Chitungulu-Chama road via Kazembe.

He said the three government roads in Lumezi constituency, which were graded over a decade ago, will enhance tourism activities in the area once they were completed.

Mr. Banda said the ongoing road projects would also provide job opportunities to the local youths of chiefs Mwanya, Chitungulu and Kazembe in the valley area.

And Mr. Banda has advised ZAWA, who are the supervisors and custodians of the road projects, to ensure that the three contractors do quality and satisfactory work because government would not tolerate any shoddy work.

And Chief Chikomeni has commended government for rehabilitating the three dilapidated roads in the valley.

The chief said once improved, the roads would not only attract investors in the tourism industry but would also attract cotton merchants in the area.

Meanwhile, chief Chikomeni has appealed to government, through the House of Chiefs, to expedite the distribution of vehicles to chiefs that did not benefit in the last consignment.

He said the vehicles would make the mobility of traditional rulers easy when touring government projects in their respective chiefdoms.

  17. “Zambia gets 76.2 million euros in grant” lets hope the govt will put this to good use!since they have said 30 mil will go to poverty reduction:d/ Can you imagine the big things amounts like this can do if it was just properly prioritised? Lets hope people’s pocket’s don’t grow:d

  18. Just wait for a little more time, and you will see significant development all over Zambia. However, we should know that our national reserves are only at $1 billion. So government really has to survive on hand to mouth arrangement. This is why it is difficult to take measures the ways western countries take in the face of this global economic crisis. Just look at America, for example, injected $700 billion in one(financial) sector, when our TOTAL national reserve is only 1/700 of it.
So when I see singers talking about why Zambian leaders cant do what their friends in the West are doing, I also see some old all time opposition politicians singing, I simply pity our abundant ignorance.

  19. I agree with sata’s points on reducing number of mp’s,cabinet ministers, all these vice shani uko some are not needed and their salaries can be redistributed amongst civil servants :d:d:d/

  20. Mysterious bird disease breaks out in north Zambia

i take it upon myself to introduce new topics to LT since we seem to get 3 boring topics every 12 hours!!wats wrong these days LT no stimulating things whatsoever!**==**==**==

  21. Ok good now that is lovely, that road was so bad people risked being chewed by wild animals, believe i got stuck in that same road recently,

  22. I know that RB has great potential to deliver.
He is not like some opposition politicians who like singing and will compose an audio album for each small project they touch, they will release an audio album.
Rather, RB is not too talkertive and could be more of a ‘Man of Action’ than the self-aclaimed.
I am hopeful we will see more of such development projects coming up despite this global economic crunch. Let the new budget be in place and you will see much action.
I must also state and acknowledge some of the efforts the opposition referee, who acts as a reminder. What would be a grave mistake for Zambia is to think that since the referee knows football, let him be put as the striker.

  23. G BABY

I didnt see your question. To tell the truth my dear I have no plans for X-mas I will be just at home alone.i have bought myself 5litres of wine, hope it will keep me busy.G BABY iliko trick kono I have no friends here,Ku Church we are on break what a shame! So My dear I will be just be at home entertaining myself.

  29. Nyama Soya @ work atleast, but extend to other provinces as well otherwise you will snooze while attending church services!

  30. It’s good to develop the rural areas. This is part of reducing our dependence on copper. With the farm block coming up in Lundazi and if this can be extended to all districts, then Zambia has a future. Agriculture and Tourism are the way to go.:-w

  31. That sounds good mwe…Tar mark road or yamene yamazembe na mageleda so when Mr.Nbvula comes he washes away our roads ?Someone tell us

  32. Labour and Social Security Minister, Austin Liato said in an interview in Lusaka that calls to extend business hours were welcome but employers should look at alternative staff shifts.

Mr Liato said extension of trading hours would enable businesses attract more trade.

Commerce, Trade and Industry Permanent Secretary, Davidson Chilipamushi, when contacted, said the ministry would soon resolve the issue to enable trading houses remain open until late hours.

Mr Chilipamushi however said he would give a detailed report after consultations with the Ministry of Justice.

Last year, the Ministry of Commerce, which was in the process of facilitating legislation to extend shopping hours,

  33. They say charity begins at home! I think there is potential for a nationwide improvement to be implemented slowly but surely. Remember its not too long ago Zambia started to develop and we had malls like Manda Hill and Arcades! RB is a very travelled and intelligent man, I can only imagine him wanting Zambia to be as successful as South Africa (for example) 🙂

  34. The level of idea exchange on this blog is too shallow.
The calibre of the bloggers is that of Kaponyas.
That is why I lough at their analysis whenever they attempt to analyse.
One of them was busy saying,

“People say PF is for kaponyas; where did PF get the largest number of votes? Is it not in towns where we have the educated? This is where we have doctors, teachers, lawyers, etc.”

I looked at the reasoning, I said to myself, “ignorance is very expensive; it can cost you even your integrity”
This person has no idea that over 70% of the people in town are uneducated. He also doenst know that we have no kaponya in villages. All Kaponyas are in towns; that is why PF ticks in towns.

  35. Sweet Thang

Thank you my dear,I will say Iam okay though ama great thinkers naba Ponta ati the site has been given to Dogs. How can someone talk like that sure. 8->8->8->8->

  36. matworld i was asking you if you are coming to zed during the festive season.you still need to find a church somewhere to attend atleast on christmas.5 litre wine sounds too good i guess it will keep you going.take care….

  37. I don’t think its for dogs! I think sometimes its hard for some of us who aren’t in the thick of problems in Zambia to comment the way we should! I was in lusaka three months ago, but it feels like things have changed in such a short space of time! DOn’t be discouraged mwana! I’m still here!

  38. Eish, ba Matworld, just keep the conversation coming, its always a pleasure talking to you guys! Where is Baby C today? I haven’t spoken to her in a minute!

  39. Pinkly hey love how are you? I’m just watching, i got upset a few days ago so i’m being selective about what i say! But i’m tickled by Rashid Jones and you! You guys are sweet man!! 🙂

  40. #89. Pinkly,
You judgement speaks of the level of your thinking.
Of course it will attract a lot of support from those of your kind.
Of course if it were a competition you would win because your class has more than mine.

  41. Matword

I like it, especially its hooves(trotters) its yammy! espcially over pumpkin leaves mixed with impwa! iwe! When you come, i will prepare a special dish for you, believe me not, you will be following me wherever i go! :o)

    Sweet thang

~:> this one is also nice especially over bondwe

  42. Fine

Dont be offended love. I didnt mean to hurt you, cheer up, its friday. I like stepping on people’s toes just to see their reaction.

How are you??? :* by the way am a grduate from cambridge university(UK)

  43. Pinkly

You are right, that’s my favourite as well,There is a Restraunt here we usually go to for supper, hey they prepare it :@):@)nicely,Have you tried its ribs roasted ones?

  44. #80. Fine. Your argument is neither here nor their. What calibre of people reside in the countryside? What I have personally failed to understand is how a sitting government can fail to woe voters in urban centres – which are composed of an electorate that has access to information through newspapers, radio, television, and easy transport. Why should a ruling party have its support base largely in rural area? Kaponyas are people who are not knowledgeable on issues at hand especially when it comes to the election period in this case. Their vote depends on who has given then chitenge, sugar, cooking oil, salt, nefyashala!

  45. Lundazi district abnd Malambo have been neglected for so long. This has been a long time coming!!!!

Besides Malambo is en route to/is in the South Luangwa National Park and better road access is required because it can be dreadful getting there by road.

Let’s not sink so low and start the tribal talk.

  46. #100. Pinkly,
It is not possible to be offended by what you said.
Words said can only offend after the source has been assessed and found fit enough to cause offence.
So I have nothing agtainst you, apart from my concern that you dilute the purpose and intention of this blog.

  47. =)) matworld and pinkly! You guys make me smile, talking about all this food is making me soo hungry! I have a really nice recipe for rib and pork chops! But i agree Pinkly ~:> and %%- (they don’t have one for bondwe – four leaf clovers taste nasty) and i love love love (~~)leaves with nuts and chillies!! – YUM!! Pinkly nice job with school! Keep up the good work! Keep representing **==

  48. #102. Agenda for Zambia
Majority in town are kaponys and this class of people they simply hear information but they dont understand it.
As a result they are easily manipulated by politicians that are crafty.
Those politicians who can fight for ‘third term’ today and tomorrow they will tell I was not among them.
Now what happens is that Kaponys, cant connect between what is said today and what was done today.
This is what I mean by failure to understand though having the ability to hear.

  49. Sweet Thang

Thanx my love. You know, i spent sleepless nights, no playing, no fun whatsoever, for about 4years just to get this ka paper. Thats why, i want to have fun, this time around. serious contribution will come after 3months or so… :o)

    I missed this one%%-big time

  50. Sweet Thang

Please send me the recipe ^:)^^:)^^:)^.i love cooking so much,I started cooking at the age of 10.we only have one sister in our family, and My bro-in-law got her so early so I started the kitchen job at a very tender age. When I cook,oh!! the food testes like it has been prepared from Heaven by the angels. So please send me the recipe through [email protected]

  51. matworld I’ll send it to you! Esp for the pork chops! I lived with Jamaicans when i first came to the UK so its for jerk pork – its delicious and tender! Try it for Christmas lunch and let me know! I’m making it too, but of course they’ll be Sima, beans, ~:> too!

  52. #107. Fine. So the whole country is composed of Kaponyas in the final analysis:- those that were hoodwinked into voting for the MMD because of sugar handouts come from the rural population and the other group which gave the opposition the vote largely due to misinformation comes from the urban areas.

  53. Ba pinkly, sweet thang naba matworld whats this cr@p about food when the title is talking about road rehabilitation? Send each other your tuma emails and talk about not wasting our time nefya bewelewele atase !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  54. Shinka Manyela – sweetie its friday! besides we want you to eat well pa christmas! Sorry bati awe kwena i commented but the topic isn’t very exciting! pls forgive us, on the basis that its friday and its almost christmas
    :*

  55. # 114. Agenda for Zambia,
So for you, if someone in the village receives chitenge or sugar from a politician he becomes a Kaponya?
I would love that you understand the meaning of the word ‘Kaponya’.
Villagers were not voting merely on the basis of recieving items, not at all.
Villagers in Southern province voted for HH, do you mean HH gave them items?
Villagers in Northern and Luapula voted for SATA, did SATA give them items?
Villagers in central, eastern, western, nort-westen, lusaka rural voted for RB, did RB give them items?
So you are telling me that all the three politicians missbehaved in these respective villages where they won, righ?
I think you analysis needs expansion.

  56. Shinka Manyela

Awe naimwe ze biggy, you have just come so first go through all the comments that’s when you can go on and attack us,coz we have contributed something pali topic.dont be so upset my dear.

    Sweet Thang

Thank you I will try the recipe, though two of the ingredients have comfused me.

  59. Why is this worthy of news??? It is like congratulating a bus driver for driving a bus. Governments are expected to have an operational annual maintenance plan for rehabilitate roads. The fact that this is news worthy, tells a story. The story is that there is no annual road maintenance plan.

very soon we will be congratulating people for breathing!!

    Let us get real, hey!!

  60. Zig Zag Chimfwembe

Awe dont do this,my ribs will crack :-j:-j:-j How can you appreciate someone for breathing.

    Thank you.

  65. As useless as this story is so are most of the blogs. Putting money in a useless place called eastern province just cause its where NYAMASOYA originates from. I hate how this province is always backwards. Some bastards from this province kept KK’s money for over two years after he was embarassingly defeated by FTJ. Now they are being rewarded for voting for the dull sleeping presidents of theirs. Hope the roads can bring easy movements so other people from woken up provinces can go and show these backward people how to live.

  72. Some bloggers are so predictable! I knew when I saw the headline about the road being built in Lundazi that some people would have to play the tribal card and say ‘why is he only putting a new road in Eastern province’. When are we going to move away from these kind of politics – so juevenile and so backward. If Banda had appointed cabinet ministers mostly from Eastern province then people would have something to talk about. Lets wait and see. If the coming projects are all in Eastern province then we would be justified to question the president’s integrity but for now it is too soon.

  73. HE SHOULD HAVE STARTED WITH THE CAPITAL CITY. ESPECIALLY THE “INTERNATIONAL AIRPORT” THEN THE TOURIST CAPITAL……..MUCH, MUCH LATER ON, KU LUNDAZI. KU BATUTU.
