Katumbi praises government for constructing Chembe bridge

Share

Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) Katanga province governor Moses Katumbi has praised the Zambian Government for building the Chembo Bridge from local resources

He made the praise when he paid a courtesy call on Copperbelt Provincial minister Mwansa Mbulakulima yesterday.

The 30 member Congolese delegation was on the way to Sakania where Mr.Katumbi was going to tour some development projects.

He said the Zambian government should be praised for having built a bridge which would improve trade and the quality of life among the people of the two countries.

He said that Zambia should be proud that the bridge has been funded from Zambia local resources , which were a demonstration that African countries could  achieve their plains from local resources.

He added that the DRC government was determined to build a road between Kasumbalesa to Likasi which was a stretch of 400 kilometers;

He revealed that his government had already purchased the road rehabilitation equipment worth US$20million dollars which was in Lubumbashi, to be used to rehabilitate the road from Sakania to Lubumbashi when the rains were over.

Copperbelt Minister said both countries use each others territories when visiting other parts of their countries.

‘It was not strange that the Katanga province governor should pass through Zambia when going to Sakania because even me ,I pass through Congo through the pedicle road when going to Chembe constituency in Luapula,’ he said.

He added that he was grateful to the DRC government through the Katanga governor for the recovery of a Truck which was handed over to the Zambian government through the Chililabombwe District Commissioner yesterday.

He added that there was need to make a follow up on a Baptist church Land Cruiser which went missing but has not yet been recovered from Congo.

  1. Our govt should be engaging Congo on the maitenance of the bridge since they also use it. They should even be discussing the tarring of the pedicle road.

  2. This guy and his brother Katebe Katoto are business geniuses-he was unfairly tainted by chiluba but you watch how he is going to transform katanga region. If only we had zambians like him

  3. LT pliz check spelling on these things, I mean “pedicel road when going to his chembe constituency in Lapfuls” atase what is that?

  4. Ubuteko busuma zebige,i wonder if this guy would have made this trip if the late patrick was still in power, anyway politics and politicians never cease to amaze me though, what a development

  5. Chembe Bridge is one of the many achievements the Late Mwanawasa accomplished which Chiluba failed to do in 10 solid years! We owe this to him(LPM)May his soul rest in peace.

  6. Katumbi you are welcome, but dont just say thank our govt, you should also help us to put a tarred road mu pedicle,we want utuma go come journey. You should also talk to your pipo to stop harassing us pa border.I fail to get it why pipo in our african countries mistreat us Zambian, while we let them leave peacefully in our country.Zo-ona Zed ni ziko lamutendere.Nasty D I miss your Muzik man 8->8->

  7. I think Lt just quoted the original broken english the guy used, anyway it is not his mother tongue kapena sembe chiswaili

  8. seeker of the truth and justice

I agree with you. This man has a passion for his country,He told all the investors who have invested in Lubumbashi to put up good infrustrutures and good road before starting there business.Iam also told that they are now building a very big shoping mall mu lubumbashi.Zambia Calo cesu cant we do the same sure? 8->8->

  9. If Levy was to come back today and find Katumbi pa ZED alelya naka bwali kuti yazanda. To me this is just the come back of bakabwalala. Chungu is back, Katumbi has started coming soon he we become a major contractor to this govt. Anyway thats why this time PONYAX mapepo chabe nobulimi. Nalionaula sana money PABWATO. No more politics.

  10. Matworld, you are right!! regardless of his pityfalls the man tries to payback what he takes from his country, alot of people are ful of praise for his work in his country.Only wish we had people like him who will still remember were they came from….
These quacks in zed, they will steal and fail even to build a decent structure for the next generation to see. Just look at the structures in cairo road and you will wonder were our money goes.

  11. The last time i checked this Katumbi was accussed of having conspired with FTJ to loot this country of her meagre resources. I don’t know whatever happened to those allegations. LT please check spellings before you post your articles. This is unprofessional.

  12. Do we owe this man something? Why is it so much of him. I know what makes Zediams worship people (1)Inferiority complex (2)Poverty (3)Image building – if our records are in a mess so we want to put things right. This guy is just a governor what if it was H E Kabila?

  13. **==**==**==
katumbi is looking presentamble as a minister, now some of our leaders kuti wabutuka!!

mr katumbi sir,we apreciate your good looks and praises for zed, but please bring our money back, you know it

  14. Iwe #11, SEEKER OF TRUTH, Katumbi and his brother Soriano were paid US$20m by Chiluba for the purchase of armaments for Zambia. The US$20m disappeared and we never received a single bullet.

When I see Katumbi, I always want to throw my shoes at him. I think wee should finance one rebel group in Lubumbashi to chase Katumbi and get our money back.

When Katumbi arrived in Lubumbashi after Chiluba lost power, he told the welcoming crowd that he was from Johanesgurg. He never mentioned Zambia. That is Katumbi for you.

  15. Thats why Zambia is never considered a serious country. The change of administration should never mean change of principles. When Barrack Obama takes over from George W. Bush, Osama Bin Laden will still remain a No.1 wanted person in USA. Whats wrong with us kanshi!!!!!!!!!!! Chanikalipa, then LPM was a man!
    RIP (LPM)~X(

  16. How is this man related to Chiluba
    2. How is this man a zambian?
    3. How is he congolese
4 Where did he make his make his money from?
    5. What is his failed connection with the zambian/govt

Can someone please help educate us on these querries?

  17. Some of Chiluba’s relatives have roots in DRC.
    His Mother is partly Zambian.
His Father was Greek from DRC.
    His father was very(Greek) wealthy.
LPM did not want anyone to do with FTJ viz a viz the national plunder.
These are loose explainations but will help know MK a bit

  18. LT

My first comment is for you: For goodness sake, mind your english! What do you mean “Katumbi praise fimo fimo”? Check your grammer before you post anything. You mean out of the whole lot of you, no one saw this ommission? basopo!

As for Mr Katumbi, with Due respect ba governor, we are a nation that is still reeling from those “acts” committed by you and …You know who….
Fighting hunger is our priority, not bridges. We are not like those chairmen who prefer bikes to clinics (kwena fipuba filya)

  19. AfriQueen why do you want me to leave LT? Is is because I thanked Katumbi. This is 2009 no need to insult. Im not in a mood to say something bad. LEAVE ME ALONE. Iwe wine kuti walonga.

  20. Matworld

Iwe naiwe you are just praising anyhow!! Why? Pantu mufuma kumo? Awee mudala, there you are off side. We can even ask Zoe.

  21. Evelyn King

Dont let characters like that get you down. just blogg away my sister.

    LT

I wrote a message like this one to Evelyn. Why did you moderate it. any insults here? You have a problem.

  22. Katumbi can be praised for all sorts of what he has done but has neglected the most productive areas of Katanga. Kalemie, Nyunzu, Kongolo, Kisengo Manono, kongolo, Pweto and Kamina. The towns I have mentioned have minerals like Gold, Coltan, Copper and many more. All these minerals are being exploited by locals with no papers to mine and sale and there is no control as to who is doing what. The only problem here is that, there is nothing like you guys do in ZED when you want to engange investors. Here all we see are infestors. WHERE TO KATUMBI? PIPO have no jobs.

  23. LPM did a great job atleast he left a legacy. Congolese are very crooked people when he congratulates you just know that he is upto something watch this space this is the way they start. Next time you will hear he has been given a contract u know how we zambians are we forget easily and we are easily taken away. Now that LPM is died he is back kaa what does he want this time around,Zambians pliz try to be sharp not sleeping all the time.

  24. #40, Deja Vu, UNIP built the 4 kilometre bridge at Tuta (longest in Africa) in order to secure access to Luapula Province.

So even if the Congolese closed the Pedicle road, the access to luapula is already secure through Tuta.

As for Soriano (katoto) he was involved in the sale of Zambian Copper after MEMACO was dissolved by Fred.

  25. Hotchick

Despising the congolese in that manner will bring unnecessary attack on Zambia. Learn from the Nigerian case.

  26. ba Moze mulichipuba what has Evelyn king done to you. whom do you think you are. Uli mwana wandoshi. Musiye mwana wabene. Is this your father’s website. we shilu we.

  27. It’s true ba “Things fyapona apart”. The man is hardworking as we saw it in the FTJ era.
No leader pa Zed would use personal wealth to develop where they came from.I miss those PALEZ,IMBOWA,MACKEREL……….Chani oyeeee

  28. #52 NKOLE: Fair enough, suppose you are at Chembe from Mansa and you find that you cannot use the bridge are you going to go back to Mansa and the to Mukuku- hope you know the geography of the area. KK built the Mukuku becauseof the same problem am talking about. Or you are coming from Ndola the you find Mokamo closed, you have turn back to Ndola for Kapiri etc etc

  29. Katumbi may have been used by chiluba but Katumbi and his brother were rich before chiluba became president. One does not get to be granted freedom of the city of a major US city if one is a criminal and katumbi has been granted freedom of the city in Atlanta. His brother is the fourth major share holder in mercedes benz.If this guy was the mug that you have painted him why has Kabila appointed him head of Katanga?I guarantee you katanga will not be the same under this guys leadership.

  30. Ba Moze.

I know the the guy is a victim of Zamtroop funds, but we have to give compliments where they are due.Katumbi and Katele baleba but they also think of their pipo.Look at what katele has done ku chiyenge, unlike Chiluba aleiba alabako napa Musangu. So big man its not that Iam lumba lumba fye ni reality. :-j:-j:-j

  31. gentlemen, have u ever heard of rafeal soriano? this entity is also know as katebe katoto this character is a by far bigger fish than moses and he supposedly moses’ older brother

  32. I thot this was named after H.E Levy Patrick Mwanawasa S.C. third president of the poor poorly managed Republic Of Zambia.

  33. I thot this was named after H.E Levy Patrick Mwanawasa S.C. third president of the poorly managed Republic Of Zambia.

  34. #60 There is no company in the World called Mercedes Benz. This is thename of a car not the company! Can you please name the first and third biggest investors in ‘Mercedes Benz’. Honestly it will be disingenious of you to only know how to count from 2 to 2.

  35. Katumbi how are you? Katumbi started coming to Zambia when Levy was stil alive. This man has got money ka!he can pay all you guy here.

  36. You know this Moses Katumbi guy is a good conman.Chiluba used to brag that he is a fimo fimo Engineer, but this Moses, bakamba, swindled him in broad daylight in this presence while wining and dining together at State House (such are congolese).Look now ,he is back in Congo as govornor enjoying govt immunity from prosecution and even has the audacity to visit the country he looted and plundered, imagine. What do we do? enter into some secret deals and turn him into a state witnesss! My foot!.He is even walking scot free and pouring fake accolade on the current leadership.Anyway,it was a lesson, those who jump on the podium claiming to be the cleverest,History has judged, are the opposite.

  37. #60. There are only two listed black African millionaires on the African continent. These are Dangote of Nigeria and Patrice Mosepe of SA. If this guy was the second biggest shareholder in Daimler Benz he would have been a billionaire because we are talking of a huge coporation with a market capitalisation of nearly $300bn.

  38. #70 Tau fimo fimo

Spot on there friend! Am gettin confused as to where people are getting facts on Katumbi, his brothers and so on. If you go further than two, Katumbi or his brother do not appear amongest the top ten! I dare anyone to disagree with me here.
Please dont mislead us. We know more than you think. thanks again #70

  39. Levy ain’t turning in his grave,it is under his govt that Zambia realised he’s the most powerful Governor in Congo,he controls much of the revenue. He was elected by the people not appointed by the President, remember that congo has a decentralised system of govt so Katumbi is no Provincial Deputy Minister as in the Zambian set up not even Kabila can decide for him how he runs his Province remeber how he closed the border at Kasumbalesa & the zed govt went to plead with Kabila to no avail so Levy had to swallow humble pie & seek reconciliation with President Moise Katumbi,a brilliant & hardworking young man who is praised by every congolese for changing Katanga Province.

  40. At least katumbi has mentioned some developmental intentions…now our minister has said nothing developmental except …

“It was not strange that the Katanga province governor should pass through Zambia when going to Sakania because even me ,I pass through Congo through the pedicle road when going to Chembe constituency in Luapula,” and some vehicle recoveries!!! what an empty mind!

  41. ewee rare fimo fimo you are asking katumbi to marry you zambian men have you heard. please someone available who is a free atom to marry her.

  42. All of you guys questiong Katumbis elder brother Katebe Katoto-just google katebe katoto you will get much of the information of how he made his money

  43. #79 Seeker of fimo fimo

Information on katoto is all based on dirty deals and crookery! 😕

    Bloggers, goodnight and stay blessed!:)>-

  44. changing katanga my foot! typical Zambians praise Katumbi for nothing, what did katumbi say that deserves praise? He was just acknowledging the fact that his government did not spend a cent on building chembe bridge. I was in Katanga recently, just hot air nothing tangible, it is a typical failed african state with thousands of chinese abusing the locals. Actually the chinese there treat the locals worser than the treat Zambians. Please stop the disgusting Zambian trait of praising foreigners.

  45. to all bloggers read the ascent of money by niall ferguson or if youre unable to read get a copy of the documentary; theres no man on earth whose made millions without a crooked deal and if you know any please let me know. its just that after a period of time those who reinvest the money are socially forgiven… that includes all the banks were we keep our monies….
    and the church ofcourse…..
    just dont dont a kwacha!

  46. Happy new year my fellow Zed bloggers!

This guy- used to live in Riverside Kitwe before he fell from favour with that corrupt Chiluba character! he was quite the womaniser!

  47. People the truth remains that Zambia despite its short comings, we are still better than Congo. We have systems in Zambia compared to Congo.

The greatest problem we have is we confuse talkativeness with intelligency, Plunderers with successful people. Public funds with personal riches

  48. My only concern is that our own politicians are corrupt. They easily get bribed. i would not be surprised if Katumbi was on business on our soil. He needed to visit what is left of Chani Fisheries etc. may be he even met FTJ. Dont be surprised if we see him do businesses again on our soil.

But what about the allegations connected to FTJ. Didnt the Task Force confiscate Katumbi’s ambulances and houses in Kitwe? What happned to Chani Fisheries? We need to be serious. Why visit Kasumbalesa now, after all these years. Just to pass thru Zambia?

  49. I ve worked, I am off for a drink then I ll touch home. Baby C, Zoe, seeker of the truth and justice, Matworld-Nice guy and indeed all those I havent mentioned its chao :-h:-c ~o)

  50. This CB provincial minister Mwansa Mulakulima is behaving like his friend in Ndola, the one who was Bribed by a similarly wealthy Tanzanian. This is how come we have fuel tanks constructed by the road side in Ndola. A foreigner came in, bribed a number of ministers and local councilors and constructed tanks that Environmental Council of Zed, Indeni, Zesco and ERB. Zesco was forced to move powerlines that had been there all the time. People, I tell you our politicians are so corrupt. This man once bought a suit at Manda Hill for a deputy minister he was going to meet in an hour’s time. True story.

The Tanzanian I am talking about owns trucks and fuel filing stations in Tanzania.

  51. #84 I beg to disagree with you. I know a lot of German businessmen who have earned a fortune simply through hard work & discipline.
I don’t know much about Katumbi but what I have also observed in African countries is that “big shots” like him have more following, are more influential and sometimes do a lot more, than some of our politicians. Isn’t this the reason why he also has something to say about the fate of the mines? (read the post).

  52. This Katumbi banned copper concentrate exports from Congo. Bwana Mkubwa has shut down and people have lost jobs because of that. Did the minister raise this isuue with Katumbi. I wonder wht our ministers are there for, if not for the people’s interests.

  53. #92 He took that action for the good of his people in katanga and there is nothing wrong with that

  54. How I wish Bwana Katumbi could engage his government to tar the pedical road since Zambia has built the bridge. This will help smooth travelling from Copperbelt to Luapula

  55. Katumbi like most stinky rich politician in Africa is yet another chancer who has made his fortune through fraud. Him and his causin kafupi collaborated in plundering the Zambia resources. Katumbi is a guy who has reaped where he did not sow but took adavantage of Kafupi’s presidence to turn himself into a billionaire overnight. Crap!!!

  56. You people in diaspora, don’t you at one time or another miss Zadian dish such as Katapa, ubowa, Kapenta wankwangwa, ifishimu, Chisense, Chinkamba, Kalembula na Chibwabwa mixed ne mpwa? :-?:-?:-?:-?

  57. #100 Shimapepo

Yes we miss them bad kind. be praying for us. The most precious thing anyone coming from Zambia brings us is exactly what you have listed.

Please set up an export business. We shall certainly buy your foods.

  58. Only Levy can stop me – Moses Katumbi
    By Webster Malido
    Friday February 23, 2007 [02:00]

ONLY President Levy Mwanawasa can stop me from coming to Zambia, Democratic Republic of Congo Katanga Region governor Moses Katumbi has said. And Katumbi said he was in touch with people like former president Frederick Chiluba, former intelligence chief Xavier Chungu, including some of President Mwanawasa’s ministers. In an interview from his Lubumbashi residence in the DRC last Sunday, Katumbi however said he had respect for the court process over anything related to charges against him.
