TIZ says Zambia has improved on its anti corruption record

Share

Transparency International Zambia, TIZ, has revealed that Zambia has shown marginal improvement in the fight corruption.

TIZ Executive Director, Goodwell Lungu, said the positive achievement in anti corruption crusade could be seen through Zambia’s shift from the 13th to 17th position on the world corruption perception index.

Mr Lungu, however, said alot more effort was needed from stakeholders to reduce further, levels of corruption in Zambia.

“Zambia has showed an improvement of about 0.2 per cent and has moved to 17th out of 60 corrupt countries on the Transparency International ’s corruption ranking but a lot needs to be done especially in the public sector,” he said.

“We wait to see how far the current administration will go in the fight against corruption because we believe the fight that the late President spearheaded should continue,” Mr.Lungu said.

Mr Lungu observed that the absence of a legal framework to back operations of the Task Force on corruption has to a larger extent negatively impacted on efforts to combat graft.

“The Task Force lacks legal mandate that’s why Government should consider creating pieces of recommendations to that effect,” he said.

  1. 17th position in the world is a shame.

There’re no serious pronouncements from this administration on fighting corruption. I dont see these rankings improving further.

Plunderers have become more vocal now than in LPM’s time. The court sessions are just dragging on.

  2. People are no longer scared. Simple! RB chose (as is always with Africans) to start his own war-Promoting tourism instead of carying on with MMD`s dream.

To be honest I would rather fight corruption than promote tourism at the moment. We needed a very strong foundation and then build on that. But then again I am not a president. :d

    Nine Chalel-). Congratulations.

  3. Nine Chale! Sony Eric, Rashid

we need to come up with another manual in germanish! This is too much!I was once a champion now its a thing of the past .

    South Africa
    Cape Verde

Note:Zambia is not even in the top 50

  6. The fight against corruption is good, though we need to tackle the causes too. Lets look at both the effects and causes of corruption. :-??

  7. Too marginal too change anything but good enough for a start. Zambia still remains one of the worst Foreighn Investment destination areas because of high premium risk the country has been recording. I

  8. 3RqU, sorry for not greeting you today. how are you? We want the big fish not tung’onotun’gono twe bamanga yai.

  9. IT SEEMS AS THOUGH LUNGU MAY LOSE THE PLOT OF BEING THE VOICE FOR THE VOICELESS SOON.
DID SOME ONE MAYBE VISIT HIM WITH THE INFAMOUS BROWN ENVELOPE SO AS TO TONE DOWN.
JAILING MUSONDA AND SOME TWO FORMER ARMY TOP BRASS IS NOT AN IMPROVEMENT.

I KNOW OF PEOPLE WHO ARE GETTING THE NEW PASSPORTS IN ONE DAY AFTER THE CHITE HAS EXCHANGED HANDS AND THE AUTHORITIES KNOW ABOUT IT AND ARE DOING NOTHING OVER IT. WE ARE STILL A LONG WAY OFF.

  10. This is PERCEPTION, in other words it is not objective. We are very negative about the way we talk about ourselves and our country. Ask a Zambian what his salary is and he will give you his so called ‘take home pay.’ Even those who are so well off will never say ‘I am doing very well, thank you’ but ‘Ah! Things are difficult but we are surviving!’ Ask, ‘Mwalila?’ Answer: ‘Tafimoneka’ or ‘Ni wankhumba iwo!’ We think if we do not get a job it is because of corruption. Corruption is everywhere in the world, but there is no objective way to measure it. We may feel there is more in Zambia because we are just too negative.

  11. #30 Pumpy, Kabwes help is going on wel wel.I jus confirmed wth Mwamba its all true and also seen Kabwes photo.Hes nt tht bad at the moment so the sooneer wwe help him the beta.

  12. Just Received:
A Chinese court handed down the maximum sentence of life imprisonment on the dairy company chairwoman whose cover-up of tainted baby formula resulted in the deaths of six infants and sickened more than 300,000.

A man who sold 600 tonnes of the industrial chemical melamine, which was mixed with milk to increase falsely its protein content, was sentenced to death while an accomplice received a life sentence on charges of endangering public safety. :d

  13. It is not correct to say poverty is the cause of corruption, corruption and lack of knowledge in leaders and those holding public office are the causes of corruption. you would not be poor if the nation’s resources are managed intelligently and honestly. those out of employment would easily fall into a government social safety net and earn at least a basic standard of life. this happens in Bots Namibia SA etc.there is not a time in life when we will not have the poor. Poverty wiil always be there but the levels can be managed through INTELLIGENT and HONEST leadership.

  14. cont 36. For example how can a guy who is president of a nation and gets everything free of charge while earning a kill of tax payers money loot the tresuary because of ‘poverty’?

  15. 33. VOTE RIGGER
Good observation, nkani yo mang’ana mang’ana niyo bvuta. The problem we have in Zambia is we like to be other people other than ourselves thus we are always comparing ourselves with others. Sometime back i interviewed a young engineer who wanted me to recommend a salary increament, when i asked why he wanted a pay rise he said because thats what his friends were getting elswhere. The chap could’nt relate his wage to his input. So gentlemen forget what the minister, the president or what your freind is getting. look at at yourself, what do you bring to the table? Determine your own value based on that.

  16. Passing no 5 from the previous no 10 does not necessarily mean that you have improved.
Other people may have done worse and so your overall 60% score as compared to when you were No 10 with 70% does not represent and improvement in your abilities.
I hope i make some sense inregards to the TI Index.

  17. May be the countries previously below us have become worse or this is day dreaming. Man do nt you see how profitale the road block has become?

  19. This Transparency International Zambia sounds like just another corruption tool. How about an independent impartial observer or adjudicator gives the green light that corruption has improved. For all we know maybe saying corruption has improved is just another way of saying the corruptors have gotten smarter and are harder to cathc

  20. 13th to 17th to 1,000,000th…who cares?away wioth this beauralcratic bulls**t and get to the grassroots where corruption is implanted in people’s heads! :-l:-l:-l

  21. The agricultural sector in zambia can be revamped with the help of SA policy specialists. Setting up new and efficient fertilizer plants in zambia by SA can boost the sector. However, this can only be attained if the Zambian people consider a memorundum of understanding with South Africa. The zambian gov. can consider several options like; allocating land to South African investors, allow 45% ownership of state-owned-farms(if any)by SA Investors, help restructure the agric. policy and agro finance. You cant depend on one fertilizer plant. By the way, whats the population of Zambia?

  22. There is nothing to write home about!!! Zambia is still in the top 20 bracket. corrupt guys must be sentenced to death or to life imprisonment when they are found guilty. This will be the only way corruption can be reduced tremendously. Otherwise the anti-corruption crusade will remain an exercise in futility.

  23. That is a lie, corruption in this country is at it’s pick, wait for the approaching recruit for zambia police officers, only relatives and those with money will be considered, the just ended recruit for ZAF personnel was even worse.Who is giving these statistics.Coming to interviews at Chainama college of Health sciences, poverty stricken school leavers have even stopped applying to the institution.
