Veep accuses Catholic church

George Kunda
George Kunda
Vice President George Kunda says the Catholic Church has formed permanent alliances with some opposition political parties.

Mr. Kunda says it is sad that the church’s view on certain government policies coincides with that of opposition political parties.

The Vice President said this in parliament Friday in response to a question from Monze MP Jack Mwiimbu.

Mr. Mwiimbu wanted to get government’s reaction to last weeks pastoral letter from the catholic bishops that questioned the decision by Government to abolish cut off points for grade ten pupils.

Mr. Kunda said the aim of the policy was to ensure that more pupils attend secondary school education.

He also stated that in fact government provides 70 percent of the money used to run Catholic Schools in the Southern African nation.

The Vice President said although he is a Catholic, he does not agree with some of the pastoral letters issued by the bishops.

Mr. Kunda said the church should provide leadership instead of being partisan on national issues.

The pastoral letter has among other things accused the Government of being in denial over the prevalence of high levels of corruption and abuse of authority among its ranks.

  1. “Vice President George Kunda says the Catholic Church has formed permanent alliances with some opposition political parties.

Mr. Kunda says it is sad that the church’s view on certain government policies coincides with that of opposition political parties.”
This is not the first time such information regarding the Catholic Church is coming out. I remember watching the late President LP Mwanawasa making mention that there was a church which thought it has more importance than he GRZ in running Zambia – at a rally I think in Matero – in probable reference to the Catholic Church as it is the only one that has had an anti-GRZ stance mode in Zambia.
I hope our Catholic friends will…

    • On “He also stated that in fact government provides 70 percent of the money used to run Catholic Schools in the Southern African nation”, I believe this is a true and honest statistic by the Minister of Justice Veep George Kunda as I personally attended one of the Catholic then Secondary Schooll, but now High School I believe and so for myself how the GRZ is involved in the school.
I thus wish to advise the Churches in Zambia to take the stance of the SDA Church’s way of doing things like one person commented on the CB pastors sending a request to remove Mr Nchito from his position yesterday or so.
The church has nothing to do with our state Zambia as it is a separate entity.

    • I agree with you the Church can speak but the problem in Zambia at the moment they (Churches) have strategicaly aligned themselves with political parties this in a nation is not healthy. I kn ow for a fact that some ppl such as Sata are strong catholics and during the elections and befor they where campaigning for the party now what kind of holiness is that???

    • Does the Catholic population that live in Zambia belong to OUR STATE ZAMBIA? Are these Catholics affected by the policies made by the ZAMBIAN PARLIAMENT? If the answer is ‘yes’ then, the Catholic Bishops in there pastoral letter are calling the Catholic faithful in Zambia to open their eyes to the realities of life in the light of their one true shepherd, Christ. In short, the Catholic Bishop have merely done their pastoral duty.

    • Kunda should just respond by showing that there is no or less or more corruption. What is wrong with Kunda. He should be showing us as much intelligence as his education. But alas!! He is not as smart as I thought.

    • Maestro is absolutly right. The only Authority we have to learn to respect is the Godly one and not an institutional one like the catholic church.

    • |# 1.2 It will be important to remind ourselves of the world history. How was America founded ? Out of the persecutions in the catholic church. I love the Catholics ,I respect the Adventists I ,adore the scientists and despise fake politics /falsehood. We need to move forward if Rb has failed us it will be prudent that he steps down nothing lasts forever……..

    • Wiseman -reborn, allow me to congratulate you on your wise words. I too love all the catholics including their Pope. I also admire ourselves as SD Adventists specially the practising adventists and not necessary those who attend the SDA Church to warm seats – as they continue in sad behaviour after learning all the truths that the Holy Scriptures outline for all human kind. On the scientist, we do a great job and true science does not contradict the Holy Scriptures and the good Lord God our Creator and owner. Have a blessed day my friend and keep doing a lovely jolie job.

    • Its seriously not good as two times in a role is bad. I hope to read of the Catholic Church’s improvement on National matters in Zambia.

    • Hey, while I respect your point, Zambia is a sovereign Nation which the Catholic church run as a state and church from Rome MUST respect. I just wonder whether our Citizen Mr Milingo was handled properly hopefully at the request of our GRZ.

    • It seems you hate the Catholic with a passion . How do pick one item in the pastral letter and make an issue out of it?

    • Because the one item is in the news. I wonder how ignorant a person can be like this when the news is in front of his or her eyes.

    • Do do you really know what is contained in that pastoral letter? Are you aware of what has been happening in Zambia? Not what you read on the LT or post. You are not here what can you tell me? Are you objective or subjective.

    • Objective, I have only been away from Zambia for the past 5 to 6 months. I will be there in the next 6 to 7 months and so do not underrate my capabilities to gather Intelligence. The truth here is that the Catholics have their own government at the Vatican in Rome and they MUST respect our own GRZ in Zambia. Who are they to tell us to disband the NCC which was been enacted by law in Zambia, a sovereign Country, after the late President Mr LP Mwanawasa did his best to keep us Zambians on track to have a new Republican Constitution? The NCC is now LAW if you do not know this information.

    • Ba Maestro are you a mystery? The Catholic Pastoral Letter Did not come from Rome or Italy, It come from the bishop that are Zambian who live in Zambia. It doesn’t favour anyone but it is looking at the welfare of the list person who cannot even afford a bus fare from Chimwemwe to town. You might have issues with the Catholic Church but that should not make them be your worst enemies!!!!! In the advise to the government the catholic is not implying that they the of the State. You should not be a radical. Let the State prove the catholic wrong not by mere retoerics made by one VEEP. Is not the best of all He lies and he will continual to lie.

    • Ex Miner, I have not indicated that the letter came from Rome. Please, read my submissions. I hope the English Language their is simple enough for a Grade 7 failure to understand. This means that anyone who went past Grade 7 is expected to understand my postings. If you have more issues, please call again even on [email protected]. Have a good day.

    • Maestro, you are hallucinating. Your analyses are disjointed, illogical and infantile. The church has done a lot for Zambia, not least in curbing the corrupt use of power by Govt. Kunda is a corrupt guy – I hope you have not forgotten the Kashiwa Bulaya case. I would rather believe the Catholic church than Kunda and his friends. Whatever Kunda et al. do, they have only their interests in mind not those of the country.

    • Angel, I respect your opinion but be careful in this life and stop trusting in institutions but God our Creator and the posessor of everything in the Universe only.

  2. DAMN m not #1,anyway i think the catholic church is trying by all means to speak for the pipo of mother zambia.

    • This term of “speak for the pipo of mother zambia” is wrongly used and applied. The role of the church as shown in the Holy Scriptures ins not to speak for the people but to do God’s Will in providing guidance to all people to be found worth of entering Heaven at the coming of Jesus Christ our Lord and Saviour.
In terms of “i think the catholic church is trying by all means to speak for the pipo of mother zambia”, I have a mouth and hands to speak and write for myself and so I do not need to Catholics or anyother individual to speak or write for me.
I hope this meantality of this one or that entity “is trying by all means to speak for the pipo of mother zambia” MUST end…

    • Therwe is no need to turn emotional, my fellow Citizen. What is wrong is wrong and what is right is right. I am a Zambian and being in Europe has no competitive advantage for me over any Zambia. We human beings are all equal in the eyes of the good Lord good, having an equal chance to make it to heaven when Jesus Christ shall come again. No one has a comparative advantage as the Holy Scriptures clearly indicate all human beings’ state. Only those who will endure unto the very end will finally make it to heaven by God’s grace accoring to Matthew 24 verse 13, I think. So, relax and check your speed.

    • iam catholic and at the momment iam ashamed to be so.half of the people convicted of the Rwandan genocide are catholic priests.today in every parish you go around zambia you find an offspring of a catholic priest.three quarters of the catholic priests are dying of AIDS.so the so called bishops should put their house in order before they play holy.

  3. Is the Government willing to go toe to toe with the catholic Church? Do they know how big this Church is?

Why should the Catholic Church get involved anyway?

The Government should stop sitting on one table with the church when discussing political matters. It is deadly!! It does not help the nation as a whole either. One you involve the Catholics then you may as well involve the baptists and others!!

It does not make sense to invite the Vatican to Zambia!! When political matters and Religion interact, then a lot of things go wrong!! Please call on someone to educate the people!! Otherwise we are at it bad.

    • On the SPOT. It appears that some people or entities are taking advantage of the ignorance and?or illiteracy of many Zambians.
I hope someone will surely EDUCATE my fellow Zambians. I will also do my part to educate all Zambian Citizens on the separation between a church and a state.

    • Maestro, could you kindly, explain what affects Zambian Citizens (state) and Citizens of Zambia who are Christians (church).

    • Anything that is catastrophic affects Zambians be it a worldwide event/phenomena or a local one.

    • Thanks Maestro-H. This ‘catastrophy’ is what the Catholic Bishops address in their Pastoral letters. The good education you and I received from the Catholics is to equip us to be better citizens. Seperation between Church and State is an ideal not a possibility. May be you can shed more light?

    • Jamaco, the Catholic Church like many Churches does not get involved in government matters. It only opens the eyes of its Congregation to see the developments in the country, political, economical, social, spiritual etc… anything that affects human dignity. I have known of times when different Churches in Zambia including the Baptist and SDA have spoken in one voice on matters affecting the people of Zambia.

  4. Mayo ba nshutila umwana wandi Chansa kuli ba SDA. Ok lets not finger point each each, some of u bloggers are tribal fye mwee

  5. These kind of statements get me riled up.George Kunda has no right to accuse the catholic church. The Catholics are the only people who have cried out on behalf of the injustices the MMD govt has brought upon Zambia.I’m not Catholic but I highly respect these Catholic Bishops who are standing up for the masses. Its not a crime to have the same opinion as the opposition.Besides only 40% of Zambians voted for MMD. Who will speak out for the majority60%. Mr.Kunda today you are vice president tomorrow you will not be. MMD has done nothing for Zambia but enhance the brain drain.

    • Are the Catholics having the same voice there in South Africa over the South African Citizens with regard to their government? Please, I do not need the Catholic Church to speak for me for I know how to speak for my slef as a grown up individual.

    • You will learn to respect Ecclesia Katolika one day. Ask Kaunda, Chiluba, and may more others. I guess this is an SDA Tonga man speaking.

    • You are on the SPOT. An SDA proud Tonga Zambian by Tribe as a FACT. Is there anything wrong with my rights as provided for in the Zambian Republican Constitution? Please, stop this tribalism you harbour for it is evil and not good for anyone.

    • The real saddist seems to you who is myopic and due to that you are failing to appreciate reality on the ground.

    • NEVER heard them standing up against the brutal Mobutu Sese Seko, Eritrea, Chilian Pinoche, German Hitler! In Eritrea today non-Catholic and non Lutheran people are killed but have you heard any word from the Catholic church?

    • Inonge my sister the three decades I have lived on planet Earth ,one of the numerous planets we have in the universe . I have learn t ONE thing ,think always think and think when that is done thrice then you are home and dry .I am in the U.K yet I feel home sick and am going home in Sept to enhance development.

    • Nice one and all the very best. I will be home too in September or October by God’s grace to help develop my one and only country Zambia.

    • It appears that your level of education has blinded you from understanding reality. All the best in your deception, for I will not waste time with characters who think someone can be tribal against a church. Please do a simple research on what the wird tribal means on google by typing “define: tribal” in the search position.

  6. I have to agree with the Veep on this matter. The government will do well to ignore these petitions & letters from these clergymen and pursue it’s own programm. We need to stay focussed on issues of national interest and not entangle ourselves in unfruitful arguments with the churches.

    • On the SPOT. Let us operate as mature people on the political front. Politics and church issues are clearly separate as evidenced by the Holy Scriptures. Anyone who can not understand this is a deceived character.

    • I agree. The only time politics mixes with religion is when a politician is religious. Thank God Christianity is not a religion.

    • It is very much ok to be religious. Governments and Laws are man made and so there is really no necessity of sharing the same roof with the church. Politicians should pry for wisdom from above and not worship the church. Again here we witness some ignorance. May God bless Zambia

  7. Following most comments that are ill-written, I would like to congratulate the Minister of Justice Veep G. Kunda for his “The Vice President said although he is a Catholic, he does not agree with some of the pastoral letters issued by the bishops”, as it indicates that he is a matured Catholic member. This is a position that needs to be emulated by all peace loving world Citizens.
Let us all learn to say yes when it is ok and say no when it is no for there are no gray areas between YES and NO.
So, it is now time to call a spade a spade and not leave anything unturn to avoid deception.

    • Because a Certificate is goo enough. What is wrong with someone who gets 6, 50%s for him/her not to be allowed to get into Grade 10? In case, you can’t understand what I just wrote, I will simplify it again below:
      English 50
      Maths 50
      Civics 50
      Environmental Science 50
      Religious Education 50
      Metal work 50
      Technical Drawing 50
      Bookkeeping 50
      Geography 48
Total 300 out of 600. Grade Full Certificate

Cutoff point 390 out of 600.

Now, write to me what is wrong with anyone with 300 not to allow them to proceed to Grade 10 because they don’t have 390?

Whatever you answer, I have no reason to bar such a full certificate candidate from proceeding to Grade 10 for he/she has…

    • Chambeshi Ex miner, where are you now. Has the simple truth overwhelmed you such that you can not respond to your confusion about Grade 9 cut off points? I have to prepare for the Holy Sabbath now and so, more later by God’s grace. I am now officially going on a sabbath recess until tomorrow evening. Have a blessed real weekend Saturday and not Sunday the week start.

    • NO CHILD SHOLUD BE DEPRIVED OF AN EDUCATION that gives him a means of livelihood. It is the responsibility of the state to provide enough classrooms and desks to educate ALL children up to the age of 16-17 for 12 years! People do not realise that selection on the basis of grades was inherited from the colonial masters Britain who had a class society. Kaunda should have built more schools to be able to educate every child who was 6 years old in 1964 up to Form 5!

  8. “Mr. Mwiimbu wanted to get government’s reaction to last weeks pastoral letter from the catholic bishops that questioned the decision by Government to abolish cut off points for grade ten pupils.

Mr. Kunda said the aim of the policy was to ensure that more pupils attend secondary school education.”

How could he say ‘the policy was to ensure that more pupils attaend Secondary education’ pupils could only attend secondary education once fee are made affordable and not vise versa. It’s true Kunda has stopped thinking. If what is saying will be supported then we will have half baked ‘graduates’

    • A G9 Certificate is good enough. What is wrong with someone who gets 6, 50%s for him/her not to be allowed to get into Grade 10? In case, you can’t understand what I just wrote, I will simplify it again below:

  9. Mr George Kunda, SC, Zambia is a democratic country with freedom of speech enshrined in its constitution and this freedom applies to the Catholic Church, period.

    • The Roman Catholic Church has no right to sp[eak. It is not a citizen of Zambia. Its members can do so, but we are not going to be lectured to by a body of people bunching together to produce a ‘pastoral letter.’ This is individuals taking advantage of a platform to air their personal views.

  10. The Veep is being myopic(if he isn’t already). If what the bishops said is in line with what the people are saying that does not mean they are partisan. Is it wrong for the bishops to talk about the welfare of the people? The Veep and his team should look at the message and not worry about the messenger.

  11. Kunda must learn that a church is made up of people (down trodden majority) who are able to see what is going wrong in the govt. Why does he feel haunted? Let the people talk man! Since not everyone can be given an opportunity to go to ZNBC tv or radio, someone must do it for them. The church cannot keep quite when injustices are being perpetrated in the guise of democracy!

    • Did Jesus our Christ speak out on the government by PILATE in his time on Earth? Does the True of God our Creator the SDA Church speak out on injustices or it gives only spritual guidance where necessary?
Let us do what Jesus Christ our Lord and Saviour did if we are truely and seriously Christians for Christianity is all about FOLLOWING what Jesus Christ did. What Jesus Christ did not do is not our business as Christians PERIOD.

  12. Someone has to speak out for the ordinary people as political parties take a turn for the gutter and parliament becomes a rubber stamp. The wheels of democracy are badly corroded and judicial independence is slowly ebbing away.

  13. Ever heard the Pope comment on Bellusconi’s corruption? The Church of England IS the established Church of England. Its leaders are selected by the government and they sit in the upper house. They have every right to comment on UK politics. In Zambia, we do not have an established church. And when Zambia was declared a ‘christian nation’ (wrongly in my view) Chiluba’s govt did not have Roman Catholic christianity in mind. A ‘Pastoral letter’ is written to one’s flock. GRZ is not a flock of the RC. They have every right to comment as individual citizens but they should not hijack that platform for partisan politics!

    • That letter in not addressed to GRZ but to the Catholics in Zambia. It talks about social issues affecting Zambians. The government has no obligation to respond to the letter. Mind you the Pope in head of the Roman Catholic Church and not the Italian Church. They have their own leaders to talk about Italian social issues.

    • Splendidly mentioned. I wish others could see it this way .Vatican is theirs which got independence in 1929 to be a country within a country. Zambia is ours……….

  14. I dont understand the hatred some churches/individuals have against catholics. Remember their role in removing KK, 3rd term, HIPC. Some churches wil continue being mute but when called to go and sit where to get allowances they rush. I’ve been moving round churches and I can tell you that one bishop who is the chairman of one of 3 church mother bodies chaired the meeting in which they resolved not to participate in NCC but himself decided to attend. Where is the integrity/principle? You shall know them by their fruits. I shall be with u till the end of the world. >2000 yrs is not a joke. KK once said ‘mukendela pali rosary’, but God saw you threw. May God continue blessing you.

    • Did Jesus Christ our Lord and personal Saviour speak out against the PILATE’s government and King Herod in his time on Earth or he was mute on governance matters? Jesus Christ our example simply instructed us Christians, followers of Him, to give Ceaser what belongs to Ceaser and thats whether it ends politically. Jesus Christ’s role was to seek and save the lost AND NEVER TO FIGHT FOR SO-CALLED INJUSTICES by the PILATE AND KING HEROD leadership over Israel.
The moment all you lost characters on the role of the Church in politics will understand this simple fact, the better it will be for you.
May you all have a blessed day.

  15. Really the church is not supposed to be partisan, but the way the govt is running this country makes even the most neutral person to cough a bit. Mr Veep tell the big man in that chair to create employment

  16. Fellow country men and women. The Catholic church has been very consistent on governance and the welfare of the Zambian people. George Kunda’s statement that the government funds the church in its projects is veyr shallow and has to acknowledge constructive criticism.
The Catholic church is with the people on the ground throughout the country on a daily basis as compared to our politicians who are only seen when there is suppossed to be elections or bye-elections.

    • Give proof and statistics to your claims baba before using words in a terrible way like “George Kunda’s statement that the government funds the church in its projects is veyr shallow and has to acknowledge constructive criticism”.
I will be waiting to read them and comment carefully on them. To this end, I stand by the Minister of Justice G. Kunda’s statement that the MMD GRZ spends 70% towards the running of all Catholic Schools each year in Zambians and commend him for such a power data release.

  17. So many people call themselves catholics but they are just church goers. Some people that claim to be catholic are actually free masons. Catholics should also start screening those that claim 2 be members.

  18. I am not a Catholic but most of us who went to their schools will always appreciate their contribution to education in our country. It is this church that stands out when it certain wrong policies are being drafted e.g Abortion or euthanasia.Other Churches like the SDA and others only concentrate on unending arguments on which day is holy what to eat and what not to; women not to wear make up or trousers(I wonder how practical this is in winter) and having a holier than thou attitude. Now there are so many things I don’t agree with the Catholic church but as a learned person I give credit where it is due.

    • #23 HOLA My brother ,It is imperative for a good person to state nothing but the truth.Never become emotional. Yes, leave matters of abortion and mercy killing (euthanasia) to the medics it has its pros and cons.As for the Seventh Day Adventists(SDA) Let the Good Lord Judge them. For your own information the late DR C. Matandico( Late president of SDAS in Zambia) was on N CC disciplinary committee. He did his work quietly with out pomp

    • On “Other Churches like the SDA and others only concentrate on unending arguments on which day is holy what to eat and what not to; women not to wear make up or trousers(I wonder how practical this is in winter) and having a holier than thou attitude”, arguments with whom? Secondly, what is the role of a Christian? Since a Christian is someone who follows what Jesus Christ did, then a true Christian is one who does what Jesus Christ did.
With this light, did Jesus Christ speak against the injustices the King Herod and Pilate did against the Israelites? No!
Did Jesus Christ only SEEK AND SAVE the LOST by showing them what was right? YES! So, is the SDA wrong in its approach on preaching?

  19. This VP is very outspoken. Why can’t he just let the president address all the policy issues?
Those of us old enough will remember that in the early years of the Chiluba/MMD government, this Mr Kunda was very outspoken and critical of the MMD. It was widely believed that he was pro-UNIP. Now he is VP to RB. UNIP is not criticising the RB government. Even KK is quiet. Do I smell a rat? You Chipata chaps, what do you think I am smelling?

    • Please, avoid bring in tribalism. Minister of Justice Veep George Kunda is not from Chipata or indeed an Eastern province person.

  20. Point on where is Mugungulu H. Mwaanga? When he heard rumors that was Sata was hospitalized in SA, he was rejoicing, He want s a tonga man to rule Zambia. I feel pity for him because he will be disappointed. The Catholic Church does not respond to childish people in government . May be he is defending his scolarship from GZR. Sorry you Stu** guy. Tonga d*g and SDA.

    • #25 Allow me to state this , Wars are fought in the bush /jungle and yet peace treaties are made on the dialogue table where there is a spirit of give and take . Insults do not build a nation .The Tonga guy you are insulting may be right now praying for you how paradoxical life is .

    • Nice one baba. I always pray for these lost self-perceived enermies of mine. I know that the devil has deceived them too much and so I pray for them to be unloosed from the hands of the devil by God’s grace. I have no hate on any of them but I only despise the devil who has deceived them. I love them too much because I need them to be with me and the good Lord when he shall have picked us all to heaven by his grace. I really hope that we all shall make it not by our capabilities but by God’s grace and help according the Book of Jude in the last two or so verses of the Holy Scriptures. This is my pray to all of them as the good Lord God instructed us REAL Christian to love our enermies.

    • This “Point on where is Mugungulu H. Mwaanga? When he heard rumors that was Sata was hospitalized in SA, he was rejoicing, He want s a tonga man to rule Zambia. I feel pity for him because he will be disappointed.” is utter rubbish my friend. Iwas not rejoicing but I made mention that the Undereducate is still need to give us his POLITUCAL JOKES which I enjoy for he is a JOKER and nothing else. This followed the PF political party spokesman Mr G. Lubinda who mentioned that the rumours that the Undereducate Mr SATA is in South Africa for treatment were false when those who know better has realesed data that the self imposed unelected PF Leader is under medical check ups.

    • On my wanting OR NEEDING a Tonga man to rule ZAMBIA as President what is wrong with such? Am I not allowed to have such a good intention by the Zambian Republican Constitution? Isn’t any TONGA TRIBE Zambian Citizen man a Zambian who deserves to aspire for the position of Zambian President?
Please, drop this tribal mentality that you have for it is not helping you one bit. It will only cause you to have a heart attack or stroke and a depression if you do not check the rate of tribalism you are moving at.
I normally wonder how the devil has seriously infiltrated some of you characters for you to fail to recognise that any Zambian of whatever background who qualifies to lead is eligible…

    • …eligible to be Zambian President. I respect the Undereducate Michael Chilufya Sata in his right as an undereducate and this is why I am encouraging him to sit for the upcoming Grade & exams this year so that he can have a chance to attempt sitting for the Grade 9 exams too if he passes the former.
This is what LOVE is all about. One of my aunties from the EASTERN part of Zambia told me a TONGA PROVERB “ZININI IIKUKALA, NJIIKUYANDA” and this is what I am doing in the Undereducate’s case. It will be great if he can go all the way upto grade 12 and stand for Zambian President in 2016 when/if he will have passed all the above mentioned exams including the Grade 12 one. I wish him the…

    • On “May be he is defending his scolarship from GZR. Sorry you Stu** guy. Tonga d*g and SDA”, my friend I am not on a GRZ scholarship. I am thankful to the Mr FTJ Chiluba (Hon. Doc., Malawi) and his MMD GRZ, following the KK’s UNIP GOVERNMENT’s ways, for giving me a 75% or so sponsorship to the mighty Univeristy of Zambia (UNZA) after I scored 10 points in my Grade 12 exams in best 6 subjects. From there one, I have been through 3 other universities across with world without the Government of Zambia’s support in any way other than according me a Zambian Passport which I deserve as a Zambian Citizen. I’m reatful to my family: late father, 68 year old mother, bothers and sisters for…

    • … I’m greatful to my family: late father, 68 year old mother, bothers and sisters for the un-withering support and financial scholarship including the governments of the various States on this Earth who have tirelessly given me financial support including the University I am currently attending and other organisations across the face of this Earth. It will be folly to fail to recognise the MIGHTY hand of the good Lord for His providence to me throughout FULL SUPPORT, studying and passing exams to progress. Also, I thank those who have written recommendation letters for me todate. TRUTH is there is great work achieved in working together and this is what has happened in my lifetime to…

  21. George “Red Lips” Kunda is just afraid of his own shadow. There is no need to be apprehensive about the established churches. What he is implying is that it is OK for those spineless born again churches that support the MMD to spit the venom that they do against those that don’t agree with government.

  22. Meastro, you need to draw a line between passing an exam and qualifying to G10. The cut off point is ment to restrct thye number of pupils going to G10 due to the limited places available. It is a fact that right now we, as a country, do not have the capacity to take all full G9 certificate holders to G10. In my view this was rushed, certain logistics such as infracture, learning resources and teachers should have been put in place to handle this. It’s like saying any full G12 certificate holder can go to UNZA regardless of the points.

    • Facts are facts and comments are free. You have a genuine point here. What are we supposed to do now as a nation ? Not toiling on partisan lines nor religious inclination ,but finding lasting solutions , anyhow I commend the govt for that bold decision , which has provoked people to think. Though this was LPM `s vision.

    • This “Meastro, you need to draw a line between passing an exam and qualifying to G10.” is utter rubbish my friend. A pass is a pass. For your own information, I have a lot of C’s on my UNZA transcripts as PASSES but I have come this far in my education career. On “The cut off point is ment to restrct thye number of pupils going to G10 due to the limited places available” and subsequent, why MUST or SHOULD we restrict people who HAVE PASSED to continue with education or force them to re-write a similar exam the following year when they deserve proceeding to the next level? Whatever your concerns, the MMD GRZ has dine a commendable jod in this move for unemployed teachers as already…

    • … Whatever your concerns, the MMD GRZ has DONE a commendable job in this move for unemployed teachers as already available to do the teaching task. On the infrastructure issue, our children can learn under trees or school hours can be increased to 20 hours to allow shift classes for everyone to learn WHILE THE NECESSARY INFRASTRUCTURE IS BEING BUILD TO ALLOW A HEALTHIER LEARNING ENVIRONMENT. I hope this is clear.

  23. Kunda’s reaction is normal esp if the matters raised in the said letter point out the underperformed of our government. It is not the last time people will stump there feet into their stomachs upon reading or hearing the Catholic Bishops Conference (ZEC) pastoral letter. Like St Paul in his letters, it is the Bishops duty to praise, affirm, challenge, advice their congregationon matters that affect the whole human person. Take it or leave it, the Bishops have done their duty.

  24. Ba bishop ubuchende among ama fathers nabuchilamo you should also address all this issues amongst yourselves.it’s a shame that in our houses we are keeping children whose fathers ni ba father ku church.also homo sexuality amongst missionaries also address this issue and please also caution your flock against blindly following sweet talks from politicians whose chequered past you know even if they are catholics e.g sata.muposeko amano

  25. It is regretable that such evils are going on in the church. But I do not agree with you that the church follows blindly to politicians “sweet talk”. I must let you know that the catholic organisation is made up of intallectuals such as economists, doctors, political analysts, engineers etc. and when a comment or observation is made on any issue, it means it has been extensively analysed by these experts. Remember the catholic supported FTJ and the introduction of multi party politics in Zambia, but later condemned his “style” of presidency. The church will support what is right and just (eradication of poverty and illiteracy, free and fair justice system etc).

  26. I dont think this is the only way in which the gorvenment can ensure, that more pupils attend secondary school education! Why not build more schools especialy in vilages where puplis walk almost 2hrs.My Lord Bishops dont wory we shall maintain the old system in our schools.Mr.Kunda it doesnt mata whether the gornment is funding catholic schools, the issue at hand is to promote quality education to the future:doctors, teachers, lawyers, ministers, pastors, bishops, priests,MMD,UNIP,HP,FDD,PF,UNDP,(leaders) of zambia

  27. Kunda when you say the church should not….. i dont understand the point behind!!!
Today you are saying the church should just keep shi and 2mro the same mounth shall be opend and say we are thanking the catholic church for working together with the government in alleviating poverty in the counrty. For your information Mr.Veep, the church dont support things any how!!

  28. some pipo on this blog hav realy shokd me,eversince i discoverd LT, they have been through out attacking Sata as uneducated one and today they are suporting the ideal of promoting lazness among pupils!!! mmm, aikona koma nadabwa!! Is it bcoz the contradiction came from the Catholic Church??

  29. Former Vice president Christone Tembo has died.
General Tembo died Friday around 14 hours at Lusaka’s UTH.
He had been admitted there for the past one week.
General Tembo wa vice president under fredrick Chiluba and before bthat served in various ministerial positions.
Before joining politics, General Tembo was army commander.
And PF MP Given Lubinda has continued denying growing rumours that Michael Sata has been flowwn to South Africa for emergency treatment

  30. Dear Vice President, you and i are churchmates. we’re both CATHOLIC and we both attend the 11am mass at Mary Immaculate Parish. I’m shocked you have insulted the catholic church whom you depend on for counselling. you disgust me and from now on i shall not give you or any of your security detail space in front of the church. infact, you should not even come and pray there anymore cause we’re all sick of you and irritated by your intimidating bodyguards. they make us feel uncomfortable during mass. i’m sure Father Walker and Father Sakala are in shock as well. They work so hard at the parish and you utter sheer nonsence like this? Shame ba Veep!

    • Iyoo shikulu mwikalipa. Bishops write to share the church’s teaching, to raise questions, to challenge Catholics to live our faith in the world. They write as heirs of the biblical prophets who summon us “to do right, and to love goodness, and to walk humbly with your God” (Mi. 6:8). We write as followers of Jesus … ‘Peace be with you Offended Catholic’. Kunda is our brother and the fact that he is talking tells you that the Pastoral letter has a message. MP Mwiiya did well to raise this question…Parliament is talking, the better.

  31. Well I am a Catholic and was educated in a Catholic seminary at secondary level. My former classmates, schoolmates and I are massively contributing to the development of Zambia in various capacities including govt. Our education was NOT funded by govt. Even if it were, should we keep quiet when we are unjustly treated by our benefactors? That is CORRUPTION!We want the entire citizenry to be educated, but removing the cut-off point at grade 9 is NOT the solution. It compromises the quality of our graduate.Build more schools, provide a better learning environment.Catholics NEVER want to be Head of State or indeed VP or the like. They enlighten & highlight injustice, & are HIGHLY EDUCATED themselves
