Mulongoti commends Zambian Engineers

Share

Government says infrastructural development plays a critical role in national development.

Works and Supply Minister Mike Mulongoti said this last evening in Lusaka when he officiated at a cocktail hosted by the Association of Consulting Engineers of Zambia (ACEZ) .

Mr. Mulongoti said despite the country having a few consultancy engineers in the industry, government is confident that they can do a good job in infrastructural development because the engineers in Zambia are among the most qualified in the world.

And ACEZ outgoing Chairperson, Henry Musonda said the engineering sector has continued to face a number of challenges, among them being financial constraints which make it difficult for engineers to meet the high expectations of the public.

  1. I am suprised that we have Zambian consultants in engineering. With all the shoddy buildings and roads? What consultancy do they offer? To cut corners?

  2. h a h aaaaa ah mulogoti.I can’t comment.
zambia is only country in central africa without a modern building. We don’t have even shoping malls which a person can like.

  3. Its true zambia might not have the best structures in the world but that should not be blamed on the engineers. I am an engineer myself, though specialized in Aerospace, but i think i can speak for my civil engineering brothers and sisters. Engineers are not politicians whom you expect to go out there and start displaying what their plans for the a city are, nor do you expect us to push the governement to do what they dont want to do. Zambians have not put much effort in improving the engineering profession, all we hear about is the Law Association of Zambia. If the government started listening to the advise of the engineers, cities and towns in Zambia will improve. But what this government

  4. does is abandon the Zambian engineers and bring in the “specialists” from abroad, some of whom might have been in the same class as I here in Canada and probably graduated with a D average! And after all this and more, why should the public put blame on the engineer? Ministry of Works and Supply has good engineers, but all those are left out when consultancy work is needed. Situation like this lead to the tribunals of the Dora Siliyas of this world. All that RP saga was done in the name of “specialists”. so fellow bloggers the advise is given to the governments but its always ignored by ministers like “Mr know it all Mulongoti”.

  5. I had a similar discussion last night on the importance of recognition of various professionals as partners in development. Do not blame engineers , do not blame physicists , do not blame bio-scientists, not blame computer scientists, do not blame natural scientists , do not blame the doctors .Blame the mentality that has has failed to comprehend our vital role in Zambian society. our primary role unlike criminal lawyers is to ensure vitality of life .. we do have families yes and finances are important. The expensive house , car, hospital bills that lawyers enjoy come from our brains ,that they can not do …. the list is endless

  6. Yes at least we can start having publicity for the works and contribution the engineers are doing. Now the politicians and law makers should strengthen this wing to the level of LAZ we have now experienced people like G Beene in govt please organise meaningfull functions for EIZ and ERB we will do exploite for mother Zd, also look at the renumeration of Eng.. that will attract young developing students to be encourraged. Have a functioning website as well.

  7. True zambia has best engineers in the world seconded by zimbabwe. The number of zambian engineers in south africa is 918, australia 401, uk 350, usa 550 else 1000plus these r fully baked engineers 4rom unza. Govt shud do something 2 have them bak especialy structural a gud namba hav improvd the sa roads n r now on the xpres train the gau train. Its a pity we dont new infrastructure wen our servants r fully xposed.

  8. Actually most of the good ones have left the motherland. the best in the world? hmmm! i have seen some of those subsea tunnelling guys who have skills unriveled even by our wildest imagination pa zed. You should also see the others in high rise construction and petro-chemical Not that indeni incompetence endless. Truth be told we could be top notch in class ( Although you should see the Zimbos) but the exposure is lacking in our engineers. So lets call our boys back home to run the show where the locals can learn. plus kick those monkeys out of govt and begin to appreciate learned leadership because its the only way out!
