  1. When is the burial? The whole weekend should have been declared a mourning period. That is Friday 06:00am until Sunday Midnight. No entertainment over the weekend.
May his soul rest in peace.

  2. Lusaka times- you story is incomplete, infact it is shallow- it does not tell us anything about who he was. When you say he served as minister of mines, you do not tell us when- was it during Chiluba regime of duirng the kaunda regime, you do not tell us his age and so forth.
May his soul rest in peace

  3. It seems there is an out break of national mournings! Chitala Sampa of all the people, come on this a joke! RB is a crown for real.

  4. The nation can mourn him without declaring national fimo fimo MHSRIP there is no work being done if the nation is always morning

  5. National mourning is about to lose meaning. We have more national mournings in Zambia than anyother country i have lived. MHSRIP

  6. What real contribution did this illiterate person contribute to Zambia? The truth is these useless state funerals are hurting businesses operating in the Country and are by and large unproductive. Where have you ever heard America or Britain declaring such useless state funerals? These men only deserve a minute of silence at some public function and no more. Don’t please the dead but use every opportunity to protect the living. RB – truelly a failure in leadership you are, shame on you!!!

  7. MHSRIP. However, i completely agree with the sentiments above. This is bad news for the already struggling economy. And I thought the old cemetary at Leopards Hill was full? I hope they don’t dig up my relatives!!

  8. How about just declaring a year of national mourning to cover all those that are on the way like abena VJ, oops! and others so that we do not have to keep declaring more national mournings as the year progresses…it’s just an idea.

  9. Stripper iwe!! People mourn everyday. So if you look at things there is no day on this earth that ends without someone kicking the bucket. I am sure that even will I write my sentence someone somewhere has died.

  10. you guys are totally heartless. MHSRIEP. i know people in zambia die a lot due to the HIV AIDS pandemic but also due to poverty but we shouldnt forget what some of these people did for Zambia. Mr Chitalu Sampa was a minister in the Chiluba days and also a something(or a fimo fimo) in the Kaunda days. The funerals do not disrupt the economy because National mourning does not mean shut down business. Mourn but keep working Lazy Butts!

come on guys, lets be real and show some compassion

  11. No malice intended, most of these old dying politicians would have slightly lived longer, had they quit from active and stressful political lives ….stress accelerates reduction in immunity , worst still if already compromised …..timely advise to old presidential aspirants.

  12. Iwe Jamaco, of course national mourning is reserved for those who have “achieved” something for the country and not every Jim and jack, like you and me. It’s just a suggestion to start mourning all those on the way in advance, so that they can also have an opportunity to mourn themselves, lol!

  13. Jazzie Jazzie @ #13, why are you surprised! LT lifts its stories directly from ZANIS; which is Zambia Information Services, which is therefore a Rupiah-mouthpiece. But above all, its so-called “reporters” have never seen the inside of a journalism school. They are half-baked civil servants who at some point in their career got a chance to send in a “story” to ZANA and it got read on ZNBC or something and voila! They are “journalists. And lastly, LT is also an MMD mouthpiece which does no factual checking on any of its stories they lift from ZNBC, the Daily Noise, The Times, and ZANIS – all of them state mouthpieces and their only sources of news.

  14. Observer @ # 2, here are a few statistics to help answer the question you posed: Former Defence Minister, Chitalu Sampa, died aged on April 14, 2009 aged 77. Former Social Democratic Party president, Gwendoline Konie died on March 14, 2009. Former Vice-President Lieutenant General Tembo died on March 7, 2009, aged 65. Former Cabinet Minister and Member of the Central Committee in the United National Independence Party, UNIP Bob Litana, died February 19, 2009 aged 81. Former President Levy Mwanawasa died on August 19, 2008, 15 days before his 60th birthday.

  15. CONT’D…Former Prime Minister under the UNIP government, Elijah Mudenda, died on November 2, 2008 aged 81. Former Finance Minister Emmanuel Kasonde, died on December 12, 2008 aged 72. Former Deputy Chief Justice David Lewanika, died on, December 11, 2007 aged 62. And how old did you say President Rupiah Banda was? How about King Cobra? See, it’s a question of age, as well as a bit of self-discipline and a sprinkle of luck! And don’t forget the string of chiefs that have also recently “exited”.

  16. Iwe Zambian minister in waiting, are you drinking? you’ve been blahhhhhhing for a long time, you go to wikipedia to research all those dead people’s ages and want to play smart here…kagone…..I am going to the strip club… your faithfully stripper!

  17. May the soul of Mr. Sampa rest in peace, and pray for the family to have courage and strenghth in this trying moment.

  18. Zambia Minister -in-waiting: I have been trying to find out what age former presidential aspirant Chama Chakomboka died. He is not listed on Wikipedia. All that I can remember is that he died in solitude.

  19. I honestly think only former/serving presidents, vice presidents and prime ministers should be accorded state funerals. With all the UNIP and MMD chaps now dying enmass, we are soon going to find ourselves in perpetual moaning until another lunatic like Chiluba ascends to power and declares Zambia “The Moaning Nation”

  20. Condolonces to the family and friends. In time of death it is important to give respect to the departed one, no matter the character. Nevertheless, the declaration of a nation mourning should have a special criteria coz most pipo misunderstand it. They simply abundon their duties, especially civil servants.

  21. Imwe bane, the Late Chitalu Sampa was an icon in the Labour movement. If anyone cares to know there has been no labour movement in Zambia that surpassed the crop of Chiluba, Sampa, Walamba etc era. We have Jokers like the current ZCTU president Loenard Hikaumba who is an MMD cadre and Sikufele of the Numawu masquarading as Unionist today. Let the man have a State funeral and please do not close your Tuntembas during the period of mourning as you are free to do your business. By the way do you know that Hikaumba was the 16th undeclared presidential aspirant for the MMD when Levy passed on?

  22. Ala ba Chitalu bafwile balecula. I uded to meet the man in an old van he could be among those who did not plunder in chiluba’s regime. He will also be remembered for turning down an appointment from the late LPM as deputy minister of Defence with the reason that he could not accept anything lower since he was a cabinet minister in Chiluba’s govt. MHSRIP

  23. input! its chitalu sampa and because you don’t the name and shamefully you can’t spell it it does not mean we can’t mourn him. by the way when were you born? MHSRIEP

  24. I just dont feel sorry about a death of someone over 70yrs, he has lived his life and should therefore rest in peace. there’s is no notable loss to Zambia at the moment because of Chitalu Sampa’s demise, thank God national mourning doesnt mean NO WORK

  25. Iwe 20 ‘The People says’ it just good manners not talk ill of the dead. In any case the old man did alot for zed. Have you forgotten that he was one of the top ranking zctu officials Kaunda locked up repatedly while fighting for your bally ‘s better wages. You have a short memory. HOW OLD ARE YOU? May be 14.

  26. people of zambia stop praising people when they die, praise them when they are alive to solidarity and apreciation not when they die. not fair

  27. Too bad. MHSRIP. He deserves a state funeral looking at his distinguished service both as a trade unionist and a politician. I for one was not his admirer but looking at what he achieved he deserves this your national mourning. And pipo it is not right to talk ill of dead pipo – atleast by African traditions.

  28. 33, 34, Zambian Minister-in-waiting, while I do not wish anyone death President RB Banda is aged at about 73 years old while the PF leader Undereducate MC Sata is about 72 years old. The average life expectancy of a Zambia is at 42 years old.

I am however aware that any one can die at any time. At this moment in time, I have a 50% chance of being alive in the next second or so while a similar chance that I will die in the next same few seconds is 50% although I am just below 30 years old in age.

Therefore, let us learn to utilise our lifetime on Earth in a very useful manner. Have blissful day you all.

  29. you heartless people like jamaco and stripper imagine it was your father.mwembulwa mano mwe.how old are you growup

  30. I agree with # 13 be LT please update us who dont listen to Zed News and only headlines in the paper especially the post and dont touch the other papers at all

  31. May his soul rest in peace.C.S is one of Zambia’s cleanest politicians. He really deserves a national mourning.Mwasebenza ba RB.Condolences to the bereaved family.

  32. Fangless “Cobra” should not use this funeral to settle old scores with FTJ.This moment must be applied to reflect on what the deseased stood for and not brining out old differences simply because support was lost to another party.Come on Mike be real.

  33. 66 TOLO SIMUSOKWE, the Undereducate has shown that all he is interested in is politicking about anything even a funeral of a former noble Zambian life in the name of Chitalu Sampa. Very sad indeed.

  34. MHSRIP. I guess its a generational change taking place in Zambia. The ‘old players’ are living us, it is time for the younger generation to fill the vacum.
