Lands Deputy Minster, Nasim-ul-Gani Hamir, is dead.
Mr. Hamir died this afternoon at University Teaching Hospital, UTH, after a short illness.
Secretary to the Cabinet, Joshua Kanganja, confirmed the death of Mr. Hamir in a statement in Lusaka this evening.
Dr. Kanganja said Mr. Hamir was admitted to the hospital this morning and passed away around 16:00 hours.
Mr. Hamir was until the time of his death MMD Chitambo Member of Parliament.

MHSRIP, does it mean by election fever is back in zed politics? I’m sure the man must have been Zambian to be DM. Serenje is /was MMD strong hold but will MMD return the seat?
Reporting in Zambia is very basic, the author can’t even mention whether the late had a string of illnesses or its a sudden suspecious death considering that the late was deputising a sensitive ministry. We, the readers are left to guess what might have happened instead of getting the full story in the article. ZANIS journalism must improve!!

This ‘died of a short illness’ is just a perpetuation of stigma. Why not just say that someone has passed on? Of what consequence does this type of reporting have on the general population? How does our knowledge of someone’s cause of death help the deceased or indeed the family of the deceased? I think the nature and cause of a person’s illness should remain a preserve of close family members and/or friends. Death cannot and should not take away an individual’s rights to confidentiality as enshrined in medical jurisprudence.

He was a nephew to former Attorney general Ali Hamir. The Hamir family has been in Zambia for many years and they are Zambian. In Serenje the Hamir’s are a household name. In 1991 another uncle of the late Deputy Minister was the first MMD MP for the same seat. He was an upcoming rising star who was very proffessional. He was born in 1965. May his Soul rest in peace.

A husband, a father, an uncle, a nephew, a son, a brother, a friend…all of these are but a few of what this sweet soul is…what a shock, we his family are shaken by this tragedy, we pray that God blesses him with peace, we pray for patience, strength and unity at this time especially for our mother…Uncle Nasim’s Mother, Our Grandmother…and his wives, his son, all his brothers including our dad and his only sister and all other members of the Hamir family including friends. He is best described as a generous loving soul with an open heart to everyone that never hurt a single soul…may he rest in peace forever…This loss has greatly affected all our lives . My fellow Zambians, let’s put apathy aside. We must practice One Zambia One Nation. this is what makes Zambia tick. The fact is that if you are born in Zambia, you are a Zambian. This should not be questioned. In particular #8 and others, understand that we have many more Zambians to come bearing foreign last names. The bottom line is that they are Zambians. This man wholeheartedly stood for an election with intent of wanting to help run the country. He was legimately voted into office and has been able to serve though shortlived. What I am saying is that we must grow up and act mature. America has a now a president whose last name is not English but Kenyan. What do you get out of this #8?

He served the Nation and his ailing mother was also looked after him – He married twice due to his own reasons and did not have illegetimate affairs – he must be a good man – he has answered to his god now let him Rest in Peace. I cannot believe some of the comments. Do we have shame? Zambia is a Great Nation and it greatly unfortunate we have backward conservative minded people who embarrass this great progressing nation! They are the ones who lag our Nation behind. My Family have known the Honourable Hamir family since Zambia’s independence days which they patriotically gave there all. You cannot question their allegiance to Zambia.
Anyways until recently I used to deal with Hon Nasim Hamir,he spoke Nyanja and Bemba fluently. He was a very successful professional yet modest man. His nature was very modest and kind to all around him.

Before he even came into politics he went out of his way to support all those around him whether it be family , friends or even total strangers. He built a well for locals get water from every day .He built a Prayer provision and I understand was building another one too. He found any excuse to employ many people- I once asked him why he employed so many people he said to me “how will they survive otherwise” , He even donated a vehicle to his local constituency. All I can say they aren’t many people like him ,Zambia has lost a great one .Honourable MP Nasim Hamir ,Deputy Minister of lands may you rest in peace you will be greatly missed, he was a treasure to Zambia .May god make it easy on those dear to you, Rest in Peace , Your Friend !

Nasim ul gani kaka, was my fav uncle! He loved everybody! He was so kind n so smart,so swit!he gave such gud advice!we realy al deeply mis hm,we al lost a very gud person,he was da back bone 2 tis family,allah make us strong!it is very hard 2 loose a person dat we al love alot…he loved hs work n hs people n especial hs bilion $ son!. although my favourite uncle passed away for people he is dead bt for me he will always be in my heart no matter wat he was a good man and i pray that he is happy wherever he is and im proud to be the late hon hamirs nephew he served chitambo well im proud to be a HAMIR…
