Educating women is a sure way of curbing abortions-FAWEZA

Share

breastfeedingForum for African Women Educationist in Zambia (FAWEZA) has called on stakeholders to supplement government efforts aimed at empowering women in the country.

FAWEZA National Coordinator Daphne Chimuka says many women have resorted to bad vices such as abortions because they lack the resources they need to care and fend for their children.

Mrs. Chimuka noted that most women and girls abort their babies because they have little or no means to take care of their babies.

She observed that abortions are mostly a last resort action of a desperate woman as no woman would want to abort their baby.

Mrs. Chimuka said although abortion is morally wrong, many women find themselves in very difficulty circumstances.

She explained that it was for that reason that FAWEZA is insisting on educating the womenfolk to ensure that they are empowered for them to properly look after themselves and their children.

Mrs. Chimuka said in an interview that educating women is the only sure way abortion and other vices can be curbed in the country.

The FAWEZA National Coordinator said through education, women will have the information and knowledge on how they can avoid unwanted pregnancies as well as how to take good care of themselves.

She said education is the key women should have that would help them make informed choices even in very difficult situations.

Zambia has in the recent past experienced an increase in cases of abortions as can be evidenced by reports in the media.

  1. I second you Daphne Chimuka, though this is not the major reason why abortion is practiced. to some pipo its just a habit, they cant do away with what is against God’s will.
I believe abortion is highly practicised by the learnt. they will give u a reason that they still want to attain a PHD if asked why they have aborted.

  2. yea, this will definitely stop women from opening their legs anyhow, because they will be occupied with other better things. like work or school!

  3. #3 Fashion Ploice, that is the more reason why GRZ should be applauded when they made a policy that removes barriers such as the grade nine exams. Some politicians and the some clergy were just making noise without having to look at the benefits fo such a move. It would certainly keep the girls busy from mischief since they will have a target they will be aiming for -eduaction. Apart from that, there will be an aspect of economies of scale from which we’ll have increased literacy levels thereby having a people who cannot be easily influenced to vote just because they have been given chibuku or vitenje but they’ll have made sober and informed choices.

  4. No. 3 women will never stop opening their legs as long as an animal known as man still exists. Some men are so selfish and influential when it comes to sex that they do not care whether a woman is busy or studying; all they do is always to obey their small tools.

  5. I think it is the other way round. Legalising abortion can pave way for women’s education. Women should not be subjected to underhand methods but shou;d be free to terminate pregancy and persue their dreams. Yes prevention is the best method, but not all women are able to prevent pregnacies rape more especially marital and date rape being the major causes of unwanted pregnancies.
