First Republican President Kenneth Kaunda has strongly condemned corrupt activities in government ministries, saying corruption must be fought and defeated, otherwise there is no future for Zambia.

Dr Kaunda was referring to the recent corruption case where a senior civil servant and many other juniors in the Ministry of Health have amassed wealth amounting to over K10 billion illegally.

Dr Kaunda said this at the Lila fundraising Golf Tournament at Lusaka golf club in Lusaka today.

After inaugurating the tournament the former President also teed off the tournament, which has attracted various businessmen in Lusaka who are participating in this fundraising venture.

The tournament, which attracted about 150 participants, is expected to realize about K50 million to assist the vulnerable members of society.

Dr Kaunda, a former active golfer, encouraged other golfers after taking off time from his busy schedule to attend the fundraising golf tournament.

And Lila Golf tournament Chairperson, Jessi Kumar, said this is the biggest charity event this year, adding that the last one was in 2007.

Ms Kumar said the participants have a mandate to finish projects targeted for Dec 2009, hence the need to sponsor the golf tournament.

Lila is an Association of Indian Ladies which looks at humanitarian service to the needy, especially those in remote areas.

  1. #4 kk may have had dictatorial habits n spent too much money on liberating our neighbors however, the advantage of dictators is that not many people are brave enough to steal from them, u think those days civil servants could engage in that, my friend consequences were unknown, look at Rwanda, pipo fear kagame sooo muchj, thats y they r developing everyone walks on their toes trying not to offend the top dog. Perhaps africa needs some level of dictatorship to develop??

  2. BA KK ALA MWALITUSHITISHA LILYALINE MWACHITILE ENDORSE RB AFTER AMIPELA AMA KEYS YA BONDI YENU IYA NEW. YOU KNEW VERY WELL THAT THIS MAN WAS NOT ABLE TO DELIVER BUT YOU WENT AHEAD AND MADE THOSE PRONOUNCEMENT NOW LOOK WHERE WE ARE. RELIABLE SOURCES ARE SAYING THAT THOSE CLOSE TO RB HAVE BEEN SAFEGAURDED IN THE SCAM AND OTHERS HAVE BEEN SACRIFICED. THIS IS WHAT WE GET IF THE HIGHEST OFFICE IN THE LAND WANTS TO BE INVOLVED IN EVERY ACTIVITY IN THE COUNTRY. I WOULDNT BE SURPRISED TO LEARN THAT EVEN HIS TWO SONS ARE INVOLVED. ALA NAFIBOBOKA PA ZED. NEMIMANA NOMBA TWALA SAMPWISHA BANE.

  3. It really makes sad reading , how heartless some people can be . People are dying for lack of medicines in our Health institutions , Health workers work under very difficult conditions , and those selfish BIG BELLIED MONSTERS have stolen so much money , and others keep on going in and out of South Africa. Super Ken is Healthy and he goes to UTH for his checkups , He has confidence in our Doctors . There is too much corrruption now , what is the way foward? which Leader will save our beloved country ?My Heart bleeds .

  4. Impressive, but I am wondering how the fundraising golf tournament somehow had to do with the 10 Bil. ZK corruption money loss.

To the fundraisers, all the best and keep doing what is good for Zambia and Zambians.

  5. I did not insult anybody , is somebody at LT a confidante for the LOOTERS? i ONLY CALLED THEM BIG BELLIED MONSTERS !

  6. LT, SHOULD I HAVE TO REMIND YOU EACH TIME I POST A MESSAGE. CAN YOU KINDLY DISPLAY MY PREVIOUS MESSAGE. NANAKA NAIMWE BANE.

  7. Thank you super Ken, We salute sir for the many wonderful things you did for mother Zambia and our good neighbours. The discipline you instilled in your ministers hence minimal corruption during your error.
    One Zambia, One Nation………

  8. We must fight the Devil’s advocates the way Kaunda, Nkumbula, Chikamoneka, Kapwepwe and all the others fought British rule for the country to be back at pace.
And once the Devil’s advocates are ousted, we will cart them off to prison in the hearses they purchased.

  9. some pipo should not say anything because they themselves abuse government money more than anybody else.Iam happy the government is cuubing down these malpractices but lets leave the issue into the hands of the judicial authorities to finish the work. This corruption is a seekness which will never be eradicated if we do not provide essentials for our pipo. And its a pity that its the poor who are always affected by the wrong acts of such pipo.

  10. In KK era if you were seen to be living beyond your means , it did not take long before the law visited you to account for your new found wealth. At least this kept thieving to the barest minimum. Now civil servants and politicians want to outdo each other on who stole the most got away with it. The “kafupi clan” speaks volume.

  11. Some of you people in the diaspora your fathers stole money during the KK era, reason why you migrated to go to school in the early 80s. Thank Go your fathers survived the drag net!

  12. For those who are interested in mature and informative discussions, there are three excellent interviews on zambiablogradio dot com featuring in separate sessions, Former Minister Ngandu Magande, the great Dennis Liwewe and Faz President Kalusha Bwalya.

  13. Zambiablogradio is conducted by colleaugues in Canada. They featured Chibamba Kanyama 3 weeks ago. It was a great show!did not know we still have communists around in Zed; some guy in SA!did not know the private sector shaping Zambia’s economic policy and not GRZ any more!

  14. Maestro ,I think it is time HH agrees to join hands with PF other wise ,why joining politics if you are not ready to sacrifice your wealth?IT IS AS GOOD as quiting the game because evrybody knows that he will still be No.3. So who should come down NO.3. OR NO.2 ????

  15. #25 i feel its MCS that should join hands with HH. Why should it be HH and not Cycle Mata? Be reasonable nimwee!!

  16. 25 kunu greetings. Firstly, thank you for shouting for help to me. Secondly, I am not a UPND official neither am I a UPND member nor president HH’s representative on LT or elsewhere.

Anyway, on your “Maestro ,I think it is time HH agrees to join hands with PF other wise ,why joining politics if you are not ready to sacrifice your wealth?, tell the Undereducate Sata to disband PF/Sata political party for it was formed after the mighty UPND. Also, PF has not structures while the UPND has structures including members.

In terms od democracy, UPND has been having elections to elect its leaders while PF is bent on dictatorship by one person.

On another note, PF is going nowhere becos of the clause on educational qualifications.

  17. 25 kunu, as for your “IT IS AS GOOD as quiting the game because evrybody knows that he will still be No.3“, which everybody are you writing about? Are you a false prophet or a NG’ANGA.

Learn to behave or use correct English Language. If you missed English Language classes please go back to school.

Therefore, I ask you to take “#25 i feel its MCS that should join hands with HH. Why should it be HH and not Cycle Mata? Be reasonable nimwee!!” by 26 Mwanawasa seriously.

    Have a nice day.

  18. A very appropriate condemnation from the Great KK.Zambians should remember that in the old days there was the Leadership Code and institutions like SITET that tried to curb or deter corruption by government officials.
However,Kafupi a.k.a FTJ and his crew had other ideas with their so called “new political dispensation”.They trashed the old UNIP policies but unfortunately it paved the way for what is happening now in the government.

  19. # 25 & 26. Ifima political parties ifi filefwaikafwe ukuficita dissolve fyonse! Nangufwe ukukwatafye cimo. Ba KK kwati bali right nangu batuletelela ku basungu. Why have the multi party situation if they are not different. Elyo palasti tukambafye mobb justice ngatabaposeleko amano bakaamba. Ifipondo nolafikaka futi na futi? Aaaala!
