Mungwi police nab four riotous pupils

Share

Police in Mungwi district in Northern Province are holding four pupils suspected to be ring leaders of the quelled riot at Mungwi technical high school on Saturday night.

Police sources told ZANIS in Mungwi that pupils were nabbed after a tip off from concerned residents on Saturday at around 21:00 hours.

The sources said the pupils were planning to riot and cause damage to some government offices which include the District Education Board Secretary’s (DEBS) office.

Police laid an ambush and intercepted a group of over 30 pupils but only nabbed four while the rest vanished in the nearby bush and are still on the run.

Teachers at the school are now living in fear of being attacked by the irate pupils.

The quashed riot was aggravated by the continued sit-in protest by teachers at Mungwi Technical High school, who are demanding payment of rural hardship allowances from the government among other allowances.

And a teacher at Musungu basic school survived by a whisker when pupils suspected to be from Mungwi Technical high school stormed the classroom where he was.
The teacher was teaching when pupils stormed the classroom with whips, threatening to beat him up.

  1. Leave the students alone. Govt is to blame for their woes.
Ministries pocket money meant for school supplies. If you ever went to a Trades School or Evelyn Hone, it was beans and cabbage at the DH because the money never trickled down to them. In the mean time Min. of Science and Technology officials bought new cars and went to Siavonga on Workshops.

  4. # 3 cabbage, kapenta and beans was really my “motivation” to study hard and change my life!I really hated that “menu”…..I guess it has turned out to be “one fool seeing the bucket of milk as empty while the wiseman says yes yes i have found something in which to store milk,so now let me go find+get some milk !

  5. Iwe FTJ you sound like tawayapo ku boarding mukulya chilemba nakapenta nefidoyo “dude its hard life you can’t justify ” blame the govt.Think about the hard earned cash parents spend.

  9. I was once at Mungwi – 1979 – 1983. I sympathise with the boys. “Boys will always be boys”. Please, release the boys from police custody and resist the temptation of expelling them from school. Instead counsel the boys and encourage the m to study hard and make sure they write their exams. In those old days the administration used to expel the pupils caught in the fracas. I did not agree and still feel that that method dammned so many of the bright student who unfortunately were un able to comple their year 12. Innocent parents will be the automatic losers for the action of their children

  10. Isn’t funny how at days schools its called “Demo” and at boarding schools its called “Riot”.
