Maiko Zulu rejects DEC appointment

Share

Zambian reggae musician Maiko Zulu has turned down a Drug Enforcement Commission (DEC) appointment as Anti Drug Use Ambassador.
The musician is currently serving a six months suspended sentence for possession of Marijuana after being arrested by officers from the DEC for being found in possession of 17 grams of cannabis.

Zulu says his rejection of the appointment follows intensive consultation with his family members, friends and his fans.

In response to his letter of appointment signed by the then DEC Acting Commissioner Solomon Jere made available to ZANIS in Lusaka today, Zulu said he ,however, remains committed to the fight against illicit drug cultivation, trafficking and abuse in Zambia.

Zulu pledged to partner with the Commission at various other levels in the fight against the scourge.

  1. Yaba ichalo ichi chabwafya. Why cant DEC employ other people who are more qualified than begging somebody with money to be on their side? Maiko cant join them because he is still taking the drug together with his wife

  2. Naine wine kuti nakana. Mwakako muntu( and for a herb which just grows in the wilderness), mwamusebanya, elyo panuma ati isa ube ambassador. So long.

  3. KaDoBo kaliba bwino but the users like abusing it. Do it moderately and you can see the benefits. Do not associate it with your sufferings or problems but with success. TULYA BAUNI MUDALA, so this guy has made good decision by not accepting cheap politics

  4. Them crazy DEC indeed. wat them do to maiko is not in Jahs favour. good he refused da appointment which is for free. free will ambasada nope i and i not for the idea.

  5. ANONYMOUS. I have just noted your comment(178 TETA ADVISES SATA). You ask how a criminal can give advice on moral ground. Well to start with I dont agree that MC is a criminal other wise he would have been mentioned at least in one case of the CHILUBA MATRIX. Remember even Chief Justice Ngulube and VJ had a “small” mention in this case. 2ndly would you refuse to heed a known thief’s warning that people are about to break into your house. Former prostitutes are the best to advise on the dangers of the trade. Ignore them at your own peril

  6. How can a drug user be an ambassador for an anti drug Organisation. I think Maiko has some intergrity by turning it down. Very few Zambians can turn something like that down. Eg DORA SILIYA, VJ, KATELE KALUMBA he list goes on and on

  7. He cant accept simply becuase he wont stop smoking, how is he going to advise young people to not do weed. When they gave him a suspended sentence they should have included that part of it means he will have to work with dec on these drug matters.
But again he is a ja man so what can you say at least he is not be hypocritical about it

  8. This “Zambian reggae musician Maiko Zulu has turned down a Drug Enforcement Commission (DEC) appointment as Anti Drug Use Ambassador… Zulu says his rejection of the appointment follows intensive consultation with his family members, friends and his fans ” is great stuff and big up Maiko Zulu.

It is slowly appearing that a lot of progress in terms of understanding one’s integrity is happening at home.

Let us all keep showing our current politicians of poverty by bootlicking how normal human beings ought to carry themselves in this life.

All the best Maiko Zulu in your commitment “to the fight against illicit drug cultivation, trafficking and abuse in Zambia” and your partnering with the Commission to help arrest the situation.

  9. Old habits die hard. being arrested once does not mean stopping altogether, the man is still indulging maybe after he has real consequences he might stop.Dec you are compromising him.

  10. The man is still frying his brain. I wonder if he has kids though. If he has then he is a very bad role model to his kids. There should come a time in a man’s life when he should say enough and look to the future for the benefit of his kids. He is not a teenager who is still experimenting. He is a grown a$$ed man. He needs to seriously kick his habit not for DEC’ s sake but for his own good. Grow up Maiko!

  11. The man is still frying his brain. I wonder if he has kids. If he has he is a very bad role model to his kids. Maiko is not a teen or in his early twenties to say he is still experimenting. He is a grown azzed man and should seriously think about kicking his habit not for DEC’s sake, but for his own good.

  12. Michael has more integrity than our current government leaders who have failed us so miserably, and yet they will not resign their positions – instead, they fight to stay in power and earn our hard earned cash which they do not deserve.Good decision Michael, and shame on our politicians who are so greedy that they fix high perks for themselves for just deceiving us, and deny essential workers the pay they deserve for educating the nation and saving lives.

  13. i cant!!!! coz im a drug addict, nalafundenshi abaiche ehh, teti fibombe.plus my wife and me we luv the weeeeeeeeeeed

  14. wataguan man ,oil and water can never mix,no matter wht comes, continue being a highrey man,and stand for yo jah rights

  15. Can someone with data inorm us whether now Minister of Education continued drawing her salary of Minister while she was under resignation contrary to any government regulations — something like 3 months after giving up the job?

Zambia is in need of honesty individuals whom kids or small children can look up to as role models.

    Prevention is better than cure.

  16. How can he accept the offer when he is sure that he won’t stop kadobo. Imwe ba DEC do think he is a mad chap?

  17. I don’t believe this cause Mr Solomon Jere is no longer with DEC. He was re-deployed to The Police Service by H.E. Presido. R B Banda. Mr Jere I wish you well Man of God. Keep on with the God fearing spirit.

  18. Maiko is not going to give up ganja, that’s why he cant be an anti drug advocate. At least he is honest.

  19. You cant force a man to be a role model for the youths, do you think the youths in zambia will say hey look Maiko is blazing so il blaze aswell, lol. The youths are frustrated by the system, alcohol abuse is even worse, they venture into these things to pass time. On Maiko his a Rastafarian, freedom of expression is what his excercising. Maiko im sure is got Doctrine (Bible) to support the use of the Herb and in his support. What i expected of him was to support and stand firm to what his beliefs are. Manje ma rasta bapa zed na nyama bamadya. Bless, big up, stand firm Rasta. peace and love

  20. This is stupidest thing the DEC has ever done. An ambassador is a representative of what is good and just on perception you don’t want MZ as your rep.

  21. This guy is a smoker of the herb. He definately can’t allow himself to jump from the frying pan into the fire. Wise decision Maiko Zulu

  22. Ala ba Solomon Jere muleikalafye ngatamukwete fya kucita mu office. Miko Zulu umonamwishibila teti asumine pantu achili alapepafye sana ibange. You can try me especially that am out of employment, I shall come running. Kuti mwakushakofye ka allowance bane.

  23. Foolish idea by DEC. They should consider appointing non users who has a clean record.. How can the devil preach the words of God?

  24. Its time to leave the man alone… The man represents love and commitment to the motherland and its under-privileged people… When he dies you’ll be the same nation giving long speeches in his honour as a true son of Zambia who will be sadly missed… Very few of your Zambian musicians or politicians, or indeed law enforcement officers have that man’s level of awareness and integrity. I h ope no one victimises him in frustration of his refusal.

  25. Irie brother Maiko. Marijuana is just a plant with multiple use. Found growing on King Solomon’s grave. Created by the Most High Jah. Then babylon and the system want to tell I and I that its illegal. Chant them evil governments down. Live up to your conscience. Rasta will advertise. Legalise it. One Love, One Destiny!

  26. Its Good Dr. Solomon Jere has been sent back to ZP Service HQ is Deputy Commissioner otherwise he was going to be messed up. DEC is a dirty place alot of guys have ended up being messed in terms of their career progression. I hope in the near future we gona have a cop who is very efficient as IG. The current crop are just chancers.

Maiko Zulu, that was good of u to reject the offer. Those same chaps wanted to mess u up. You are better off keeping of drugs, ganja etc.

  27. maiko has learnt one lesson from all this.pop the weed behind closed doors! good decision.you can’t preach against what you love, appreciate and use – the herb.
