Kabompo residents demonstrate over power blackouts

Share

blackoutResidents in Kabompo district conducted a peaceful demonstration against the continued erratic electricity power supply in the area.

The residents are disappointed that the Zambia Electricity Supply Corporation, ZESCO, has failed to improve supply in the district.[quote]

The residents, who marched from Musamba market to the ZESCO plant, demanded for the immediate shutdown of the generator and later matched to the District Commissioner’s office to air their grievances.

Speaking on behalf of the residents, Kabompo District Business Committee and Electricity Consumer Chairperson, Kennedy Samba, said the erratic electricity supply being experienced in the district has resulted in loss of lives because operations of key sections at the district hospital have negatively been affected.

Mr Samba also attributed the poor grades for pupils in schools in the district to frequent power outages.

The residents have asked ZESCO to immediately replace the generator with a new one within 14 days.

They also asked government to intervene in the matter and implement permanent measures to address the problem.

District Commissioner, Rebecca Mukuka, told the residents that concerns raised will be availed to relevant authorities for possible action.

  1. you people from that end deserve what is coming to you! you heavly supportd these thives into gvt and now you want to complain..no remain in darkness coz brining power to that end wont bring civilisation in those heads…nowander teta boasts of been the most interligent kaonde! remain in the dark! you dont want to change!

  2. The people of Kabompo are lucky in one respect. They have a natural resource. There is a hydropower site at the Chikata Falls on Kabompo River just 5 km from the Boma. Unlucky, they have had no politician with muscle. There is always a flurry of activities at the hydropower site with all sorts of nationalities visiting the site, the Chinese, Australians, Germans, Norwegians etc. when the elections are around the corner. The economic lifespan of a hydropower project is 50 years. Surely the K500 million spent on fuel every month can easily be recovered well within this period.

  3. Sorry mweee. Next time you’ll know who to vote. Mulatwi kala sana pansansa bakamushi. Naifwe tukamikala one day. Will stop you from voting.

  4. Those guys in Kabompo are better off than most of the provinces where some of come from. They have good land, cattle, they feed themselves. The way they vote has nothing to do with electricity. If you think NW Province is behind, go to Luapula, Eastern, Western then come back to write.

  5. They dont deserve to be insulted just because they voted for MMD. What do you think PF could have done to them had they been the ones in office? Think before you judge others. VIVA NWP

  6. Why do some people always jump to condemning people based on their region or ethnic group? Really which rural province or rural district in Zambia can be said to be better than the other. Some of my colleagues travelled to Malawi recently by road. And they have nothing positive to say about the situation in rural Zambia (pparently they passe through Southern, Lusaka and Eastern provinces). They talk about lifeless villages with badly thatched tiny huts. So don’t condemn, all Zambian rural areas are in the same boat.
