Livingstone city to get face lift

Share

Livingstone Municipal Council has embarked on a rehabilitation exercise of old infrastructure in the city to turn them into modern ones.

The exercise is aimed at improving sanitary conditions, changing the face of the town to a better one and improving the revenue base of the local authority.

Livingstone Member of Parliament (MP) Sakwiba Sikota said in an interview with ZANIS today that the Municipal Council has identified Lubuyu market and the old Civic Centre as the first to be rehabilitated.

Mr Sikota, who is also a councilor, said Libuyu market will be rehabilitated and turned into a modern market while the old Civic Centre will also get a face lift.
He said the rehabilitation works that are in phase one will be done with the help of the local authority and government under the Private, Public Partnership Act.

The MP could however not disclose how much the project would cost but expressed optimism that the revenue base in the city would increase after the rehabilitation works because people would be willing to pay higher fees.

  1. This is wishful thinking, desirable the work as is. Please count the cost and Identify the one who will carry the can should the project not go ahead. Zambia must avoid passport style fiascos!!!!!

  2. Livingstone, the once beautiful town where I was born now a sorry sight caused by visionless and useless politicians. It was more attractive during the colonial era.

  3. How can a city have a Municipal council and not a city council.
Please LT guide us. Howver this type of workmanship should be encouraged.

  4. Women should take a leaf from this story. When things are not going your way, maybe you need to “re-launch” yourselves!! Get a facelift!!

  5. FTJ has apparently donated his $8 million for Livingstone facelift. This is firsthand information from the post newspaper for tomorrowz headlines

  6. WHY CANT THE PRESIDENT GET A FACE LIFT BEFORE LIVINGSTONE. HE REALLY NEEDS IT.. MINISTRY OF FINANCE CAN YOU SET PROPER PRIORITIES PLIZ

  7. Went to school in Livingstone some years ago (Hillcrest Senior, fimo, fimo). I wonder how ‘Stone looks now. That city has the potential to ‘WOW!’ people if only leaders can realize the benefits of “BEAUT”. Beautiful cities all around the world attract capital investments, tourism, and high profile visitors who have CASH to burn. This is the kind of thinking and world-view that distinguishes leaders from copycats. Even just simple pride in building world-class infrastructure that can outlive a leader should give these politicians a kick in the pants.
I HAVE NO IDEA WHY ZAMBIAN LEADERS CAN’T SEE THIS—-it is not like these people have never been to beautifully-built and well-run cities around the world—-oh my GOD!!!!!
