Vernon Mwaanga dismisses early polls

Share

PARLIAMENTARY chief whip, Vernon Mwaanga, says Government has no intentions of calling early general elections because the MMD was constitutionally elected into power.

Mr Mwaanga whose position is equivalent to that of a cabinet minister said Government under the leadership of President Banda will continue with its mandate of running the affairs of the country until the MMD’s term of office comes to an end in 2011.

Mr Mwaanga said this in Parliament on Tuesday when contributing to debate on the 2010 national budget.
He said political parties calling for early elections are merely politicking and trying to agitate for anarchy in the country.

Mr Mwaanga said President Banda has performed exceptionally well, adding that he is optimistic that Zambians will give MMD another term of office beyond the 2011 general elections.

“Now, I have heard some politicians saying Government should call for early elections. Let me say this, we have no intentions of doing that because we were elected constitutionally and we will continue with our term of office until the general elections.

“So, as long as the MMD is still in power, the best is yet to come because even international investors have shown confidence in the way we manage the affairs of this country,” he said.

Mr Mwaanga said opposition political party leaders should resist attempts to transform into professional critics but offer credible solutions to the problems the country is facing.

He said Government is looking forward to a time when the opposition will join hands and work to alleviate the sufferings of the people.

“As a country, if we have to reach the desired level of development, all members of Parliament must join hands with us (Government) so that we can service and uplift the lives of our people, because if we continue attacking each other for political gains, development will remain adamant,” Mr Mwaanga said.

  1. Yes Bwezani has performed exceptionally well by being out of the country 16 times in less than a year. Yes he has done well by keeping people with tired brains like you Mwaanga still getting tax payers money for nothing. As far MMD still remains in power the best that we can see out you is more corruption and more scandals.

  2. If PF/UPND Pact takes Solwezi, there is a serious likelihood that there will be early elections because, the MMD MP numbers may reduce drastically making governance extremely difficult. Just wait and see. Some MMD MPs are just waiting to see what will happen.
    Watch this space!

  3. “Mr Mwaanga said President Banda has performed exceptionally well” PEOPLE, WHAT DOES ‘EXCEPTIONALLY WELL’ mean????? I do not really understand VJ.

Haazambia Mazabuka: Am with in this prayer. You see this Mwaanga at one time FTJ was forced to drop him from GRZ because the donor community felt that it was not right for a convicted(under KK) drug loard to do GRZ business. But like a bad penny(ngwee?) he keeps on bouncing back. All his contempraries are rich business people while he has continued on peddling lies for survival. What a shame.

  5. I think we are a society of self defeated armchair critics live on gossip baseless narratives. We raise allegations without logical or material evidence to support them. Just last week VJ appeared on Mwape [dot] com’s Diaspora Voice for a 2 hours talk s taking open questions live. Why didn’t you call and challenge him with your evidence that he rigs elections? I have just replayed his blogtalk show when citizens from around the world asked him and he articulated on all. Why didn’t you ask him? Maybe you should feature on that worldwide streaming blogtalk Radio show and tell us listeners about your allegations. I think Blogtalk Radios as Diaspora Voice have come as the best media for your likes to inform us the uninformed. Google and Call these blogtalk Radios for a talkshow.

  6. 7. The word ‘Exceptionally’ in this context means the same as the infamous ‘Stable Condition’. Seriously speaking VJ should have been a successful businessman by now!! But alas Wasted years!!! He can only leave on favours now. What legacy is he leaving??

  8. I have heard this phrase a million times from Zambians especially politicians, now by VJ and quote: “offer credible solutions to the problems the country is facing”. I know the man has very little education but he has over the decades learnt how to regurgitate political bombastic verbature most of which he has not a single clue about the real meaning, this not withstanding, I did not expect him to parrot this party cadre line too. It’s like “resign on moral grounds”, “presidential material” etc, only unintelligent party cadres with a narrow vocabulary sing such stale songs and by doing so VJ is identifying with his own.

  9. What doing well is VJ talking about, is parading oneself “chintako” (naked) with such loose skin and volumptous belly in Swaziland “pali bana sure doing exceptionally well? Maybe by Mwaanga’s standards, but them, where on the scale are VJ’s standards? One has to think very hard to find a “bader” or “worser” political leper than VJ. If he was a prostitute, and one he would have been had he been born with a crack between his legs, he would have to pay me a million grudas to even touch him> Besides, I think he is sick, I wonder what that pot-hole beside his head is, maybe where they drained brains and replaced them with akabwali!

  14. #7 Listner. Its a fact that VJ has played a major roll in swinging our elections in favour of MMD. This has been alluded to various petitions and i wonder on which planet you are living if you say are not aware of this man’s activities.

  15. Listener, #7, id.i_ot! why do use so many aliases? Your lines are predictable! Whosoever pays you must crying their skull out. Are you not ashamed? Do you find sleep in going against your gut feeling? If your soul is worth a cent, maybe your relatives, suffering at the hands of the people you worship. VJ is consuming our hard-earned money, the least he can do is comment on RB’s mediocre leadership.
I HAVE NEVER SEEN A PRESIDENT SO DULL THAT WHEN HE WAS BORN, THE DOCTOR IN CHARGE COMMITTED SUICIDE.

  16. Each time this guy talks, it is just about elections. Have you ever heard him debating about or providing guidance on tangible developmental alternatives the country faces (for example)? I mean real work!!!

  20. Bla, bla. VJ and others are what we call “stars”. Whether they will remain that brighter remains to be seen. Time will tell. You can fool some but you can’t fool every Ted and Dimitru! Instead of heaping sacks of coals at your feet, why not sow seeds of contentment? Posterity will judge you. Eccl. 3:1-3

  21. Mwaanga is preoccupied with Elections. I urge him to talk about education, social, agriculture, judiciary, mining and many other important issues
