No need to fear Cameroon Kalu

FOOTBALL Association of Zambia (FAZ) president Kalusha Bwalya says there is no need to be intimidated by the 2010 Africa Cup of Nations draw because Zambia has faced Cameroon, Gabon and Tunisia before.

“I’m proud of the team to be at the Africa Cup because it is important. It is difficult to be at the last 16 because the road was rough. We have respect for our opponents but we will face them,” Kalusha said.

In an interview in Lusaka yesterday, Kalusha said Zambian football would only improve when the Chipolopolo lock horns with the cream of Africa.

Zambia in Group D will start the chase for the first Africa Cup of Nations title on January 13 against Tunisia and will face Cameroon on Januray 17 before wrapping up with a clash against Gabon on January 21.
Kalusha said the technical bench led by Herve Renard will look at the videos involving Cameroon and Tunisia.

Cameroon clobbered Zambia 5-1 at the 2008 Ghana Africa Cup of Nations while Tunisia trounced Zambia 4-1 at the 2006 edition in Egypt.

“The challenge is to go to the second round and pick it up from there. We want to compete with the best teams, best players,” Kalusha said.
On Gabon, Kalusha said the West Africans are a force to reckon with.

He said it has been long since Zambia was paired against Gabon on the continental stage.

Zambia beat Gabon 1-0 on April 9, 1995 in an Africa Cup of Nations qualifier at Lusaka’s Independence Stadium. Kalusha scored the only goal.

“It was an emotional match. It is good we are in the same group and we are looking forward to meeting them,” Kalusha said.

He also said Zambia earned respect from Algeria, Egypt and Rwanda who were opponents in the 2010 World Cup and Africa Cup of Nations qualifying series.

“Everywhere we have gone they have told us that Zambia was the best team in the group. We were better than Egypt, Algeria and Rwanda in terms of standard of play,” Kalusha said.

Meanwhile, FIFA has sent Kalusha to be an observer at the Federation of Uganda Football Association annual general meeting set for this Saturday in Kampala.

  1. Look whose talking now? Kalu/Galu whatever your name is should just quit! We are tired of losing! and I bet, we will be kicked out in the first round. Shame on FAZ.

  2. Lusha is right. The approach to a game should be that we can beat our opponents whoever they are. If you start playing reputations you lose the game before kick off like we did to Cameroon the last time. We can beat Cameroon although not with our current coach. He can and has made our boys start playing to a certain type of discipline but that is as far as he can go. He is out of his depth. We need a more adventurous coach

  3. Kalusha is the guy who had his 1st engagement party at RBs house on Roan Road Cnr Kudu Road back in the 80s. RB is practically his god farther.

  4. Right on Graet Kalu, thoze so called big teamz should not be given the impression we are going to Angola2010 to sight see. We will face them head on, like any other teamz in the World and the best team will carry the day. No past glory or failure will be uzed this time round, Group D here comez ZAMBIA!

  5. Abantu ba ku Zambia you are so petty and personal. The man is just giving his opinion and you are busy insulting. Just tell us want you think. He believes in his team just like Liverpool,Man u etc supporters. # 2 What type of a chick are you with such kind of languange. No wonder you were looking for boyfriends on the blog. Kalusha may not have perfomed well at FAZ house but whether you like it or not his is a true Soccer Icon.

  6. #10, inded Kalusha is a true soccer icon but dont you think that administration isnt his best strength? I think he’s had his chance (as coach and now as FAZ president) and what have we got to show for it? He’s had his chance and perhaps he should hand it over to someone else now

  7. Why are you Zambians so jealousy of your fellow Zambians kanshi??? Kalu’s statement is what should be coming from anyone interested in inspiring our team but it seems you like the language of our current coach who even when we were leading the group was busy saying “Egypty are favourites for SA 2010”!! Cut the attitude ba phycarlour!

  8. #11 . Its true that his administration hasnt performed well but he was just giving his opinion on our oponent. But we start talking about were he had his first engagement party, how he shuttles between Sandton and Pamodzi etc. Give him/us the reasons why we cant beat Cameroon.

  9. Hi, am a Zambian, am not so much of a football fan but I’ve been wondering for a long time which organization handles the National Team since I believe FAZ handles the under 10 League? Who exactly is this kalwisha kanshi and what business does he have commenting on the National team affairs??

  10. Kalu is just a ka silly, uneducated and spoiled brat. Why entrust such a strategic position which requires a certain amount of managerial education to this proud chap? The chap has no formal eduction and everyone is there allowing this MALABISHI to continue! Zambians only have themselves to blame. How do you allow a guy to live in SA and yet run your football. I thought that position was a full time job requiring full availability. No wonder you were watching while he was both a boss and employee at the same time! SHAME! By the way, who pays for his shuttling between Sandton and Pamodzi (good observation #3)?

  11. # Are you sure we can call a 45 year old man as spoilt brat? You sound so bitter with Kalu. Kalu may not be very educated but his credentials are good enough to lead FAZ. Just say he hasnt performed well at FAZ ,dont bring in other issues. And for your own information the position of President is not a full time job,the Secretary General is,so what do you want him to do when there is no activity and JHB is two hours away from Lusaka in case of urgent matters. Kalusha can not fell to pay for his flights bwtn JHB & Lusaka. By the way he lives in Bedfordview not in Sandton.

  12. We will bash Cameroon, Tunisia & Gabon with our boys who bashed North Korea. Wait and see our strategy. Kalu keep the sprit of Zambia high. No one is bigger than us in this continent. We need result on the table. Zambia has never qualified for the World Cup, WHY then should it be an issue?

  13. Thats why we have so many wizards in Zambia…..so many jealousy Zambians! The guy is rich whether you like it or not and there’re so many wise rich Zambians who own or rent homes outside Zambia so why the hatred about Kalu living in SA?Kalu has enough education, skills and data in as far as soccer administration is concerned. The soccer world governing body are busy utilising the man and his own people are busy despising him, strange people!Muli ndoshi!

  14. I don’t understand the thinking of these brood of vipers with chicken memory. What manner of hatred is it that makes you see black even were it is white? Why do u hate Kalusha pasionately? He may have his weakness but he has done a lot for the nation and deserve respect from all of us. You don’t have to like him but you have no right to insult him and question where he lives as if u provide for his family. He inspired confidence in the youngsters after our national team perished at a time when others like Charles Musonda gave up. All his friends perished but he didn’t give up. Zambia is the only country which shits on it’s heroes.Learn to make your points in a civilized manner unlike dwelling on personal issues and insults.

  15. #18 Dob, So what if your Kalu has alot of money? Who does he feed no one but YOU and his relatives. We need actions and not words or someones wealth to lead FAZ, the Kalusha boy is self- centered, you may recall the 2006 Africa cup of nations that he coached, the chap could see alot of mistakes exhibted by the then goal keeper in the name of Kolala, he could not do anything and kept Kennedy Mwene on bench till the last match against South Africa. I have no personal hatred against him but he imposed himself to become FAZ President with a personal agenda @ heart.

  16. #21 Kalu imposed himself to become FAZ president? Didn’t know that but I think u need to check your facts again.Everyone has their own failures and successes(if there’s such a word) but to suggest that Kalu is a failure is far from the truth. We need to start being comfortable with the fact that some of our fellow zambians have lots of money and are much more wealthy than us.I find the mentioning of Kalu having a home in SA totally irrelevant to the topic at hand.Someone’s saying Kalu is uneducated?Kalu’s education is even higher than some of the govt ministers we have.Kalu finished high sch with a Sch Cert. While he was abroad he did a number of courses in his field of interest and the guy has a Diploma. He’s uneducated? If its not jealousy then lets be fair.

  17. Why should we always take ourselves to be weaklings??? There’re no weak teams at this level of competition – including us.

  18. It is like hoping to pass an exam without a single day of studying, Kalu just keep getting your money as FAZ president, Zambia will not win in this group, who are you fooling?

  19. These are words of wisdom and inspiration which our boys have been lacking. Nice words coming from the global soccer icon. It’s really not fair to be talking about personal issues concerning Great Kalu. I am sure people around the globe who visit this blog must be laughing at us. Looks like we have poeple with NATURAL HATRED for Kalu. Give the man a break. Look at how FIFA and SA2010 are using him nicely and conviniently. FAZ prez is just a small hat t. The only people you expect to find at football house are full-timers like the GS and media officier. . Does it hurt you if Kalu shuttles between Msanzi and Lusak more that you travel between Ndola and Lusaka? Remember he is an ambassodor. Do you know he is the longest personal to have lodged at and in room 412 @ Pamodzi. Bola panshi ba…

  20. No one has hatred for Kalusha. People want RESULTS, period. He is being paid for organizing football in Zambia with winning. He was very much praised by all Zambians when he was a player bcoz he was delivering the required results. As an administrator he has failed to perform so tax payers have thr right to speak out. Cameroun is stronger because they dony entertain poor administrators and coaches who can’t deliver the much needed results, WINNING!

  21. Paper Hitler* IF KALU WAS A HERO ONCE, THAT’S NOT REASON ENOUGH TO BRING DOWN SOCCER OUR COUNTRY’S NUMBER 1 SPORT: GET THIS Y’ALL KALU-WORSHIPING BIRD-BRAINS: HE HAS FAILED! ; AS COACH & AS FAZ CHAIRMAN AND IF HE WAS AS PATRIOTIC AS YOU FIGURE HIM, HE SHOULD HAVE RESIGNED LONG AGO! NOW BEATING THE CAMEROON, GABON & TUNISIA IN A TANDEM IS WISHFUL THING: A LUXURY ONLY FOUND IN FOO L’S PARADISE..I GUESS THATS WHERE YOU BASK!!!

  22. THis is a giant with a pea sized brain indeed. He is just ranting without any rationalisation behind his puke! yaba I hope he stays in New York and doesnt come to foul our air down here!

  23. here we came .ba kalu bamudala .ni go zambia.simataa simatta has many followers for obvious reason, but the people chose u.we shall win today and if we lose hard luck.after all it is a competition with no known winner
