Jarvis Gives Verdict on Esther

Share

American boxer Terri Blair’s coach William Jarvis has saluted Esther Phiri’s courage in the ring but has some words of advice the for boxer.

Blair and Esther found-out to draw in a gruelling 10-round match-up for the vacant WIBA light welterweight title at Mulungushi International Conference Centre in Lusaka on November 28.

“Esther, as far as skill goes, is not there,” Jarvis said. “But she does have a very big heart in the ring I can tell you that.”

Jarvis said he was satisfied with the draw adding that his fighter was a bit slow after the long-haul flight from the USA last Wednesday.

“I thought It was a great fight last night (On Saturday), both fighters fought valiantly and I would like a chance for a re-match.”

Sadly, Jarvis and Blair will not get a chance for a re-match in the coming six months.

Esther instead is now scheduled to fight Duda Yankovich (10-0-1) of Brazil who held the light welterweight title until injury forced her out of action last June.

The Esther-Yankovich showdown is set for May, 2010 at Mulungushi again which will stage all of the Zambian boxers home fights for the foreseeable future.

  1. LT, check out please. You may have removed by mistake a posting analyzing RB and MMD’s.
Put it back or offer an apology.
Is this incompetence on your side?

  2. I totaly agree that Esther lacks skill. She is just resilient. What do you expect if her trainer is a failed boxer. How can you impart skill that you never had and never considered to show case.

  3. In other words Jarvis is saying that his american boxer is so bad that she can’t even beat a boxer like ester who has no skill at all!Congrants ester for drawing a match wihout skill!

  4. #2 Ubutu ubwingi pa LT. Big Mule you are embarrassing us. The Story has not been removed. LT has just put new stories. Scroll down and you will find the story or better still search for it. I think it is incompetence on your side for failing to learn how to scroll down and offer an apology to LT

  5. Who is Esther’s trainer. What did he have to say himself? Or herself.

In any case, I hope Esther will get some good wealth out of all this life of boxing. Is she making good money?

  6. What is this Jarvis chap saying. If she doesn’t have skill, why did his boxer fail to beat her? Esther just needs to work on her defence, especially on offences targeted to the head. She opened up for too many of those and nearly got knocked out! Let’s hope she’ll have a cleaner fight and clear-cut victory against the Brazilian! Go Esther…

  7. It is true , ester fights with no strategy. Boxing is about strategy….what formula you will use to beat your opponent. You should also guard your head, but ester always leaves her head open. She really annoys me always and I wander if her coach has not noticed that. BWANA ANTHONY MWAMBA PLEASE TEACH ESTHER TACTICS OF BOXING….not fighting like a log.

  8. I would advise Esther to retire while she is still ahead. Let her seriously consider child bearing now. Those body punches she is absorbing will just damage the ntwenu!

  9. I hope the advise has been heeded as Esther needs skill and stamina. My personal opinion of the fight is that Blair won it. She needs a trainer who is exposed to latest boxing technics and I believe with Mwamba she can’t get that.

  10. Considering that she only took up the sport a few years ago, I think Esther is a good boxer. However, she is not yet the best in her category and the public has been hoodwinked into thinking she is the best simply because her opponents have, in the past, been cherry picked by her promoters. This happens to many boxers. In the UK, Ricky Hatton springs to mind. The guy was a world champion who mostly fought in the UK against mediocre opposition and won all his fights until he faced the best in the business (Mayweather and Pacquiao) who destroyed him. Terri Blair is a world class boxer and Esther’s next opponent is even better.   I hope she trains as hard and as smart as possible for her next fight. She has a long way to go and is still young enough to improve.

  11. People, Lack of technical skills in the trainers and inadequate facilities also contribute to the poor performance of our boxers and others sports, perhaps, If Ester is given an opportunity to train in those countries with skilled trainers and equiped facilities, Esters performance will be greatly enhanced.

  12. Esthers fights are staged managed!!That peter cott0n who promotes these fights is behind this scam.Let them enjoy the loot for the time being, but one day they will be exposed..
the whole thing just sacks!!Someone has clearly lost and then you declare the fight a draw!!Nowonder the hall was half empty.People have lost faith in these fights.

  13. anthony mwamba is a leach, incompetent trainer who himself is failed boxer trying to enrich himself.the gal has made money let her go to skol n get married period.she has no skill
