We are not against Chinese Investment-Sata

Time Posted: January 16, 2010 1:46 pm

Sata and PF Cadres

Patriotic Front president Michael Sata has re-stated that that his party has never been against the Chinese investment in general.

Mr Michael said his party is only concerned with the conditions of service the Chinese offer to the Zambian workers.

He said that though Chinese investment could be encouraged, the investors from that country should respect Zambian laws.

Mr. Sata says that Zambian workers have continued to be paid low wages at the expense of the so called investment.
Mr. Sata also said in an interview with QFM that government should not be boasting about opening new mines.

He noted that what the government is simply doing is only recycling old mines and not opening news ones.

Mr. Sata further stated that if Luanshya Mine was sold on principle other than through corruption means, it would not have been changing ownership.

He has advised government to engage in proper management skills in the selling mines other than through corrupt means.

Going by what is going on in Zambia like it or yes Sata might be the next Zambian presidentby 2011, the MMD is doing everything to be voted out no compition no development nothing for the local people. In Kitwe instead of arressting the ones that killed the marketeer they went on and arrested the opposition just adding more fuel to the fire.

Judge a leader on what he is capable of doing for his citizens anyone will trained on foreign policy. If you knew how protective are some countries to its workers you should even commend Mr.Sata on this one. I only felt unhappy the way he became in motion when he was guest on VOA. Otherwise he has the interest of the Zambian people.

FQM is not a good partner for Zambia.

KAnsanshi mining has a benefit more than 2.5 billion of US $ !!

But.. but FQM accepted that Kansanshi mining give only 3 M $ dividends to ZCCM-IH !!

Why only 3 M$ for 20 % in a mine with benefits more than 2.5 Billion of US $??

FQM prefer to see ZCCM-IH without money…because FQM want more new mines with important stake in it.

giving no dividends to ZCCM-IH, zambia won’t develop mines alone…

FQM is not a good partner for zambia !

At least Sata has a vision for this country. Better than some individuals spending the country’s little resources on unnecessary travels around the world and day dreaming. Good governance of a country is all about a president having good leadership qualities and putting well qualified/educated and skilled people in right departments and ministries come 2011. In short, Sata stands a very good chance to win. I would advice Sata to take advantage of what is going on in western province and other provinces to explain to the peoples of western province for example, what developmental programmes/projects his government once elected will undertake.

    Good afternoon

Exploding the myth surrounding this man! Human beings are very funny creatures –

    1. Christ came to save mankind and yet mankind (his own people – the Jews!) betrayed him.

    2. Marcus Garvey fought for the Liberation of Black people worldwide and they sold him for rice.

    3. Patrice Lumumba, Kwame Nkrumah, Steve Biko…should I continue???

People just ask yourselves why the Chinese don’t like him when he is only after a fair deal for the Zambian people? Is it a crime to seek better conditions for the workers???

chinese companies in the region including botswana pay very little to there employees .the concerns of sata are genuines and are being systematic ally adressed in countries like botswana.the way the issue of the chinese and sata has been adressed in zambia, one gets the picture that sata is wrong .the biggest challenge in zed is that evrything is seen in a pplitical context .the chinese surely exploits workers in pay not only in zambia but in other parts of africa where they are .the solution however lies in our leadership to adress this and for sata to speak about it should be supported by any concerned zambia.explaining the economic might of china and it world position has nothing to do with the issue of a living wage.

Sata has always been clear on this issue. his concern is about the workers who earn slave wages. It is like on the ZAMTEL issue. Sata is not against the privatisation of the phone company but the process which is clearly dubious. On the Daily Mail, how on earth can Zambian entrepreneurs fail to run the newspaper company and yet AlaBee wants to offload it to his Kenyan friends. This is what Sata is talking about. Don’t misunderstand the man. And on the issue of him having been part of the govt then, the man was not the president. KaChiluba kale badribbler.

Let all Investors respect Zambians by giving them reasonable wages not the wages chinese guys give to zambian miners. #20: Well, I don’t think Sata understands himself either! He likes to be “man of the moment” too much. I am not sure if the problem is his limited education, but the man can not express himself clearly enough to avoid the concerns people have about him—-LOUD MOUTHED HEPOCRITY. In politics, WORDS and the way you say things (LANGUAGE) matter!! In my view, the biggest enemy to Sata’s political aspirations is Sata himself. Learn to be DEPLOMATIC.

Yes, his concerns about Chines and other investments in Zambia may be legitimate and shared by many Zambians, but the way he comes across when talking about these issues is, quite frankly, beneath someone aspiring to be President of Zambia. You can not insult and verify people and then claim you are being misunderstood. Are you kidding me!

It is easy for you to speak out without prove. Maybe you have been to Zambia 20years ago. Go CB and witness the kind of conditions of work and services? To make the matter even worse the govt doesn’t say anything against these cruel people instead the govt give orders to the police to brutalise its own citizens .

Mr Sata, does not understand even the legal framework of the country he wants to rule. He should first appreciate economics and gain a bit understanding on the role of govt in trade and commerce.

His time is long gone. I don`t think he has good advisors otherwise he wouldn`t be wasting his retirement package on politics. He can do well as a party chairman and not a Republican president. Let that young HH lead the pact, and him Mr Sata should just act as a pact mobilizer.

I would advise that you refer to those companies by their names and not generalising as “Chinese investors.” China is a country that we cannot afford to damage relations with. When the rest of the world is looking at china as the major player in world economy we should not be seen to be going the oposite direction. Don’t expect huge salaries before you make huge profits. See what has been invested and what is coming out before your cry for huge salaries. For now our people must understand that half a loaf of bread is better than none. Chase those investors and we shall remain with our closed mines and not even half a loaf of bread. Lets develop together. It will take patience and hard work

We all know no country can survive without dealing with others but laws of the hosting country must be obeyed. # 44 YAYA, kindly spare us with real and well sounded based knowledge of employing someone to work for you and a company registered under the labour laws of Zambia. #16 ‘Akapondo’ – Surely, this not how an educated person writes, shows how shallow your thinking capacity is! I do not think you have any substance upstairs. No need to say all that rubbish. In future, I would urge you to contribute something meaningful to this thread. It’s not my fault if you ran into a rut. Be smart pal!

#16 Akapondo, You have made my day!! You are one patriotic Zambian and iam for every word on your 16th post. I don’t what kind of educated people we have on here. There is no way a well meaning individual with a sober mind can support this minion of the devil above. This moron will bring severe damage to the reputation of our country and inexplicable misery to the already miserable masses.
He utters anything that he small brains thinks abt and his minion dance in chorus without taking a minute to analyze his utterances. Shame on the post hypocrites who trying to present a goat as sheep even if its sound is loud and clear to those with functioning ears and brains. Time for the corporate world to come up with a paper that will compete with the post. Clearly the post has become a nuisance.

interesting reading .if sata was that dismissable.most of u would not be writting.no one is writting about godfrey miyanda.the reasons are obvious and personal.you are scared.very scared.but change is always scary .so dont worry somethig will come up for you .for now accept that MMD has failed .if MMD had not the failed the people ,sata would not even be in the picture.and you would be happier.the beauty of our constitution is in the democratic choice of our govt.and time is the referee.we shall shall soon be chosing ,who knows we might chose u again, though i doubt

You don’t need to be that smart to know Sata like many politicians will do anything to get into power. Don’t be so naive bene zambia – Sata doesn’t mean well.

It’s good that the PF UNPD pact has changed its stance over Chinese Investments. But this abrupt change of mind is really suspicious and I wonder his advisors know that Mr Sata is making a **** of himself. One just has to read past editions of newspapers to see how Mr Sata and his cadres have unleashed senseless poison on any Chinese Investments since 2006 to yesterday morning. China has now overtaken Germany as the largest exporter and will soon replace Japan as the second largest economy. Mr Sata thought China was a small country they could mess around with. A poor country like Zambia attacking China is really attacking the life line of our working class.

    #45, pafwenamwine:

I don’t have to character assassinate Sata, he is doing a good job of that himself. Sure, 98% of the current crop of politicians may have been UNIP or MMD members, but probably by the same amount, none of them think that foreign Investors are “Chinese Infesters” nor do they think Zambia can survive by re-nationalising industries that have been on “life support” since GRZ took over.

You, Sata, myself, and many others do agree that the conditions of service under which Zambian workers toil is unacceptable. But you can’t tell me these poor working conditions just pop up all of a sudden! Because that would be a big lie. That’s why I said Sata has been in politics/govt long enough for him to have noticed these “sins” long before now. Campaign gimmicks,…

    cont. from 67

….should have a limit. Not everybody have “selective amnesia” about the recent history concerning Sata. He will do well to constructively engage Foreign Investors than heaping insults (infesters) on them and expect no response in kind. God forbid, tomorrow he may become the president of Zambia and, trust me on this, he is going to need these same “Infesters” cooperation and support if he has any drop of “economics 101″ in his veins. And for people like you, pafwenamwine, to be blind to these facts is disturbing in itself.

The politics of populist appeasement that Mr Sata propagates are not good for Zambia. This man will say anything to appease the masses so that he can win their vote. A true leader would start by condemning the Zambian investment and labour laws which make it easy for chinese and other foreigners to exploit zambian workers. Sata was in both UNIP and MMD govts, what did he do to change these laws. To his blind supporters I say charity begins at home. How many of you pay your maids and houseboys a decent salary? Or is expoitation only a crime when it is committed by chinese investors? You expoit your fellow zambians and yet you can without shame condemn foreigners when they do it to? Shame on you! Plus zambians also live in other countries doing tamanga business, why shouldnt the chinese?

Honestly, someone speaks for the plight of our poor fellow Zambiana employed by these dubious investers, ati “boyo”! What kind of people are we. Invester occupying tu ntemba we should be left to the Zambians ati invester??? Ask the miners about the conditions of service they are offered by most Chinese investers.

Investment, no problem but not eating “masuku” over the heads of our fellow country-men.

Imagine, Sata gets robbed of an election and guess who celebrated the most? So called investers and foreigners…. kabili this is their play ground! Surely, doesn’t that tell you something? Yabaaaaaaaaaaaaaa!

MMD cadres of gone out of their way-where on earth could you go on public announcing to gang-rape a woman?-This barbaric behaviour should be brought to an end not sooner than later. Also it is unheard for the cadres to grap a gun from duty police officer. This is unexceptable, certainly it is total anarch. The culprits should be caged.
