Final Score : Zambia 2 - Gabon 1
FINAL SCORE : Zambia 2 : Gabon 1 as Zambia earns quarter-final place at the Africa Cup of Nations.

Zambia are through to the quarter final stage of the Africa Cup of Nations following a 1-2 win over Gabon in their final Group D match.

Gabon needed only a draw with Zambia to secure their spot in the quarter finals, but things did not go as planned for the team that entered their last match as group leaders.

Rainford Kalaba put last-placed Zambia in the lead after 29 minutes, and James Chamanga made it 0-2 three minutes after the hour mark.

Excitement returned in the final phase at Ombaka’s Nacional Stadium, as Fabride Do Marcolino pulled one back for Gabon in the 83rd minute.

But Zambia held on to their lead to add three points to their account. Zambia, Gabon and Cameroon all have four points from three games but Cameroon and Zambia have the better goal record, leaving Gabon empty handed.

Zambia face Group C winners Egypt in their quarter final encounter.

  1. Very well done boys. Lets go all the way…..bring the Africa Cup 2010 to Lusaka!
Now let be get down to eath and throw in my 2 cents like a true Zambian Soccer fan! I think we should have scored atleast 4 today!!! Also, HR needs to re-think his tactics when Zambia are in the lead. In modern day football I think it is very risky business to simply drop deep and congest the box and just clear the ball. All in all a Great day for all Zambians!!!

  2. Yipolopolo aisha basa, welldone lads its time the copper bullets aim at gunning down the pharaohs its been a minute we whooped them, we behind u now and always

  3. Katalina where are you? we told you we are winning- This year , we are going with the cup to Zambia- ala chalinakale please- Thanks-

  6. We finally beat Gabon…If we were not to qualify to the semis, Zambians should be proud of having beaten Gabon…remember Diramba?

  7. Awe mwandi, team perfomed gud keep it up and also keep possession in the last mins to slow and frastate the opponent .Ba LT we meeting Nigeria not Egypt,GUYS u made my day i can breath a sigh of relief .CHIPOLOPOLO<:-p<:-p<:-p,am out.

  8. I hope Hervé’s critics have been silenced. He has delivered on exactly what he promised…
    1. Qualification to AFCON
    2. Reach the 2nd round
He was definitely right about Zambian soccer fans. Angola were more passionate towards our team than we were. All this negativity should stop.
For now I look forward to seeing Zambia put in a good showing for the remainder of their stay at the tournament. AFCON winners? I don’t think so, but they have enough skill to do it. Like some have mentioned, a little less fear and more confidence could be the deciding factor.
    Viva Chipolopolo!

  9. Zambia vs Nigeria is our next game!
Here is the issue. Since Zambia, Gabon and Cameroon have same points and same goal difference. The next thing is goals scored against each other, that is goals scored among Zambia, Gabon and Cameroon WITHOUT Tunisia. And if u add, Zambia will have 4 goals, Cameroon 3 and Gabon, 2! So, Zed is leading the group!

#1….. did you say winning????? my foot!!! Tulimakula! gabon will of course carry the day. Gabon :)>- Zambia

Katalina what do you say now?

  11. Yes good show, but we need more like our late KK11, plse Ba KK do wat yu where doing for the late team, if remember, yu used 2 start juggling the ball nd definately the wil win, but no one can do that, no one is interested like Mzee Kaunda, Bebeniko mwebali mpepi nabo, ala ndebafulwa ba mdala, long live chip’lo nd ZED pple.

  12. I THINK WE NEED A FRIENDLY WITH CAMEROUN, MORE OR LESS A REMARCH.. AS I THINK THEY CAN’T WIN AGAINST THIS TEAM WE HAVE, IT WAS JUST THOSE SILLY MISTAKES..

  13. Well done boys. Zambia is the best team in Africa. Egypt is next. Egypt should fall. We can do it again. We need to play the final now. We have reached the quarter final and final is the next step. GO ZAMBIA GO CHIPOLOPOLO. Zambia is number one team in Africa.:d/

  14. Nigeria has reorganized. I still remain a faithful Zedian and I know we can turn tables. Go Zambia. Do not worry of those big black guys. Think of a policewoman pa loodi blocko stopping a truck full of vincebele bound for manenekela.

  15. Imwe bantu where are all the critics, dont tell me they still disappointed .[-x Tuletasha lets give our team a chance.Association mobilize support into Angola 4the 4r final.

  16. I am very optimistic about our game in monday! For anyone interested, here is the Zambia v Nigeria Head to Head record:

    Played:14
    Won:5
    Drawn:4
    Lost:5
    GA:19
    GA:13
    GD:+6

I know these are just numbers, but they clearly show that even though we have yet to win the Africa Cup, we have not been walked over easily. Let go all the way!!!

  17. Yes, from here now, we can do anything- Remember- i have told you this year- Cup goes with the boys back Home- sweet Zambia. That country Zambia is just too sweet- we need such things like Africa Cup this year please- nilekaleka- GO ZAMBIA

  18. Way to go boys!

Shame that insulting Kalusha Bwalya and bring the trophy home, something he never did. I dont even know where the name Great Kalu comes from, more like puny Kalu if you ask me.

  19. Zambia will be playing Egypt on Monday. The big question is, Can Zambia beat Egypt? Yes the boys can. They need to believe in themselves. Egypt should be stopped by Zambia:d/

  20. #37
Thanx for the clarification.I had trouble with the statistics cos I was certain it was Nigeria. The Eagles will fall.

  21. I new they could do it. Woe to the useless unpatriotic Zambians who thought we could not make it. Yay Zambia. Yes WE CAN.

  22. b-(b-(b-(b-(:)):)):)):)):))**==:d:d=d>=d>=d>^:)^^:)^^:)^[-o<>:d<>:d<:d/:d/**==**==:-h:-h**==:)):)]:)]>:d<>:d<:-?? punch in the eye for the panthers...ha ha ha ha ! will chat b4 the quarters..come on egypt..we have some unfinished business from last year . lets settle the score..

  23. Psalm 108:13

With God’s help we will do mighty things!

    – Through and with God’s help you will overcome.
    – With God on our side we will win.
    – Knowing that God is with you allows you to be courageous and determined.
    – Don’t go it alone.

PRAYER: Lord, help us to not run on own our strength. Cause us to depend on You! Amen.

    Gnite Zambia

  24. I’m getting confused here. Who are we playing against in QF? Eurosport is saying Egypt whilst their tables are showing that Zambia is on top, which means Nigeria is next on our chopping board. BBC on the other hand is saying we have jumped from bottom to top of the group and hence Nigeria is being lined up for serious savage beating.
Whatever the case, come Monday some team will be up for some savage beating.

  25. We are playing Nigeria even LT has confirmed with their new post. Lets hope the boys keep the momentum going. I can’t believe even the arm chair critics are now celebrating. From being tail enders to the top. Chipolopolo iyeeeeeeeee !!!!!!!

  26. There is something we Zambians should know,a match with Nigeria isnt an easy game. The Nigerian team has picked their form and it will take an extra ordinary Zambian team to beat them. Our boys need to be focused and believe they can do it.I keep my fingers crossed.

  27. From here Sam, we can do anything, and will go with cup back Home Zambia. You guys have faith this time- boys are also tired going home without cup- Nigeria- Egypt or what will beat them-

  28. Congratulations Bane, you have done us proud.Nafuta nafilya naebele Mweene.
HR continue with the job , well done. Nigeria tabwela, uzu siyimapya kabili.

  29. Congrats boys! HR should stop this business of going defensive while leading – aint no way you can win a game by defending. The best form of defence is attack. It puts your opponents in disarray because they expect you to defend only.

  30. I would be happy if HR resigned after the tournament because Zambians are so ungrateful. The guy has completely changed how aba bachakolwa plays but he is ever showered with insults.

  31. There goes Chipolopolo, we are at it again. That was a well deserved win. Zambia is building up as the tournament progresses. Meeting Nigeria I am confident we shall rollover them. Go Go Go Chipolopolo.

  32. Well done to King Kalu and his charges….it takes a lot of hard work from the top down to achieve success. You have to give credit where credit is due. Well done Chipolopolo and well done FAZ, I knew all along Kalu was the right president for Zambian Football.

  33. Zambia scored 5 goals so did Cameroun and conceded the same number of goals.Cameroun beat Zambia so Cameroun tops the group and zambia plays Egypt

  34. Well done Zed. The next team Zambia will play is Nigeria. Zambia topped the group because of having scored more goals.

What has happened here is that the goals scored against Tunisia are not counted since Tunisia is already out of contention. So without the goals against Tunisia, the picture looks like this:

    Team Scored Conceded
    Zambia 4 4
    Cameroon 3 3
    Gabon 2 2

So the one goal Zambia Scored against Tunisia and the One goal Zambia Conceded are not counted; The two all draw result (in terms of goals scored) between cameroon and Tunisia has also been ignored.

    Lets go ZAMBIA! Beat Nigeria.

  35. All the ladies that critisize ba zed are not even on the blog today. Shame on them. i guess they are waiting for us to lose then they will be back with their monkey comments about zambian football. Well done mafela, please keep off the angolan beauties we need you intact for nigeria!

  36. BIG UP CHIPOLOPOLO BOYS IAM PROUD OF U. YOU MADE IT. WHO WOULD EXPECT U TO MAKE WONDERS. YOU CAME FROM THE BOTTOM AND TOPPED THE GROUP. WE HOPE U SHALL WIN AGAINST NIGERIAN SUPER EAGLE . THIS TIME U DONT NEED THE SECOND OR THIRD FACTOR. IT IS U AND NIGERIAN SUPER EAGLE FACE TO FACE.

  37. :d/ Congratulations Chipolopolo boyz. We are proud of you keep it up. we are behind you to see you beating nigeria 3 – 0

  38. I have read what every one has written but just want to ask those who were asking for the coach to be fired to tell us their postion now since the young men have managed to go to the second round ( The so called ANTS and all). Please stop writing nonsence whenever the team loses in a game you can not win all the time.

  39. BIG UP CHIPOLOPOLO!

I AM ONE OF THE GUYS THAT REALLY THOUGHT THE LADS WOULS NOT GO BEYOND THE 1ST ROUND. I HAD MY REASONS BASED ON THE PREVIOUS PERFORMANCES AND THE RATE OF IMPROVEMENT THE TEAM HAD SHOWN IN THE PAST TWO YEARS.NOT ONLY THAT BUT I AM SO CONCEREND ABOUT THE WAY SOCCER IS BEING ADMINISTERED IN THIS COUNTRY TO THE EXTENT WHERE IT APPEARS AS THOUGH THE HEAD OFFICE OF FAZ IS IN RSA.

THE MILESTONE ACHIEVED IN THIS AFCON ENCOUNTER ONLY BEARS TESTIMONY THAT OUR TEAM AT THE MOMENT DELIVERS WITH PRESSURE BEHIND THEM FROM THE FANS AND THATS THE PRESSURE I WANT TO ARGE ALL SOCCER FANS TO CONTINUE PRESSURING OUR TEAM SO THAT THE MOVE BEYOND THEIR EXPECTED LIMIT. THE PROOF TO WHAT I AM SAYING LIES IN THE WAY OUR TEAM RELAXED EVERYTIME THEY SCRED.

    ONE CHIPOLOPOLO

  40. I have been waiting for a comment from the FA President, Great Kalu regarding the encounter with Nigeria, the team he tipped to win the Tourney, but I haven’t heard anything. Has there been a media black out on him? What are his views, if any regarding Zambia facing Nigeria and what are his words to the boys? From me it’s Go Zambia Go! Anything can happen in a game of footbal! Just never say die!

  41. As usual doubters change whenever the result is positive!! I remember the numerous negative comments when we played Cameroun. Where are you now, you persimists?

  42. People why do you still mention kalusha Bwalya? Is never helped any of the boys to go play soccer in Europe,Maybe am wrong can anyone help me think if he has done that? and who? I was thinking that since we had and have him he would help so many of the boys and just to let soccer in zambia be on the world map like he did for his name. So, forget about him and let us move on and wish the boys good luck

  43. Unless you were born yesterday…you should know what Kalu has been through and achieved for our great nation. Were you there in 1993? did you spend the night at Independence stadium with our late Heroes…? Timothy Mwitwa being my favorite….remeber Kalu has been with us through it all. Remember the shot against the post in the 1994 final? If i have ever seen a player give it all.. he has done it.

Now…i dont understand inside politics..(not my style!)
BUT, please dont underestimate what the Great Kalu has done.

  44. Great submit, very informative. I’m wondering why the opposite specialists of this sector don’t notice this. You must proceed your writing.
