Zambia national soccer team coach Herve Renard talks to reporters after returning from Rwanda

Zambia National Soccer Team Coach Herve Renard has expressed his desire to lead one of Africa’s biggest football teams to the 2010 world cup tournament in South Africa.

Renard disclosed that he has received some offers from two African football national teams, one of which will be participating at the 2010 world cup tournament in South Africa.

He told a press briefing in Lusaka today that it could be difficult for him to refuse an offer as he has ambitions of being part of the world’s greatest soccer event.

Renard’s a coaching contract with the Football Association of Zambia (FAZ) until May this year. He said he is yet to meet FAZ officials to decide his future with the Chipolopolo boys.

Meanwhile, Renard has advised Zambian journalists to be professional in their work by reporting facts every time.

He added that he has no problems with journalists or a particular media organisation but with one particular journalist who he said has been writing fabricated stories about him.[quote]

And FAZ Communications Officer Erick Mwanza said the association has no problem with coach Renard’s ambitions to coach one of Africa top national teams.

Mwanza said if Renard decides to leave after the contract expires, FAZ will respect his decision.

Meanwhile, Mwanza revealed that striker Collins Mbesuma is now back at his South African club, Moroka Swallows after getting stranded in Angola when he missed the flight that was carrying the Chipolopolo boys from Angola.

He said circumstances that lead to the striker getting stranded in Angola would be disclosed once the team manager Solly Pandor presents his report to FAZ.

Mwanza has however thanked President Rupiah Banda for showing his commitment in supporting soccer in the country.

He said the President’s continued support to the national team has brought a new dimension to football in the country and has boosted the morale of players hence the good performance of the team at the just ended tournament.

  1. I really dont know what to make of this story. Is this not something our coach should keep to himself?I think i am one of those few that has stood by Renard during the recent past but this is completly out.You mean whichever team that is desperate for his services will be imressed with his attitude.Maybe he is using it as a bargaining tool.Surely he wont compete with Shehata for the Nigeria Job

  2. What does he mean big team? Is Zambia not a Big Team? You can’t use our National Team as a bargaining Chip! Jesus Christ! We get raw deals from everywhere!!

  3. The market decides. That is what it is Zambians: we are used to handouts. In a capitalistic world, it the market forces that dictates and decides: the invisible hand of Adam Smith. Ba Joninjo, baka ahamba, the guy is working hard to defend himself against recent allegations.

  4. We had one coach with such ambitions. But for him, not only did he take zambia to the finals of the AFCON against a very good Nigeria, but he was within a point of taking Zambia to US 94-but fo the poor officiating of one Diramba. This Coach had really made a name for himself and as expected, he was quickly snatched by the highest bidder.

Well, I m not sure how well he did but the flicker of news I got about him is that he was fired for celebrating a rare win for his new club. Therefore, to HR, the question I would pose to him, are you sure you are as good as you think you are?? You view the Angola outing as a success, what contribution did the player you worked with have to that success, or was it all about your imput???

    Good lucky

  5. Stop getting salty it’s not like the man is married to the country until death do part. Most of you wanted to fire him and yet are getting chikoto’s on your throat when he expresses ambition

  6. HR please take off as soon as posible, i expected you to tell the zambians today that you are stepping down. this is a big lesson to FAZ, this guy has just used zambia to improve his CV from just becoming a Physical tariner. which team the one he calls a bigger team has approached him. let remind you for the teams going toworld cup and see which one is going to take him. Ghana,Ivory Coast, Nigeria who are interested in shehata and believe Shehata is better that HR. the rest you know.

  7. Who in their right mind do not look forward to being elevated to higher notches?

HR, you know what you are looking for and you are open about it. If there is a chance, move on man! Thank you and blessings.

Chipolopolo boyz move too from semi final to finals next Africa Cup!

  8. In life they say when it is time to move on you move on, it’s not about what anybody else thinks. Renard, Wishing you all the best for the future!

  9. dont shout it loud , this guy was using zambia for his CV and he has got what he wanted, clever Renar. stop crying out Renard, it was going to be very doogif announced this morning that you are resigning, we would have been very happy. which African Team is getting him? that i doubt! he is just threatening the so called FAZ for them to get a better deal. PLEASE ZAMBIANS lets train our own coach and give him the same incetives that we have been giving Renard. Go well Renar you are actually wasting our time

  10. Iam more than happy that Renard is leaving. People this is good riddance. Look at our campaign to the world cup and Africa cup. It was pathetic…you celebrate quaterfinals when we have been to the finals before. Where on earth does a coach publicly announce that their mission is to go to quaterfinals then they are done. What impact does that have on the players’ morale. Lets learn to scrap wood when its dead

  11. This is total madness…renard now thinks he has grown wings, but can he fly? He is not evening a coach fit to take on kabwe woriors becoz he desn’t understand football at all. All what our boys did at the just ended african cup of nations was not even success at all after wining only one game and having draws and a lose….shame..if he was wise he would just humble himself and achieve a little, then leave as a big boy.My advice to FAZ is that let him go and he wil what the world of football can offer…he will realise that what he had was cool in this world full of thurnder. This is our team and we are proud of it.We have achieved a lot with our local coaches before and iam sure a llocal coach will the best for our team.

  12. :)>-HR is a joker, he remained in Angola looking for a job and when he found none he comes back with a story that he has been offered jobs by countries he could not name because they do not exist. He wants to use that so that we could increase his salary and renew his non renewable contract. Does he know what an offer is? Reading between the lines one can see that Renard could not be here if he had any offer from any country in the world.HR must go! We make a man who wins 1 game out of 4 at Afcon so big headed that he even loses respect for the hand that has made him what he is. If Kalu and RB believe his story reward him with another contract, then we truly need a new Govt that should clean up the mess at Faz and State House.

  13. to me HR should have kept all these dreams to himself and not to braodcast this to the nation as he has done. by the way, what has this guy achieved in zambia? people help me. follow this record, CECAFA, NO COSAFA No, second round africa cup. is that success. ?????????????????????? HR

  14. He wants to ride on somebody else’s glory. Surely, it would be more of an achievement for him if he MADE Zambia one of the biggest teams in Africa. Just because he goes to a so called bigger team does not guarantee that that team will always be successful under his tutelage.

  15. Very welcome…Go go dear! Even in Europe are big teams worse than ours…damn.I totally agree with Bwezani ( Let us train our own coach). If we can do our own things better, I like it that way than…..you see now the talking.

  16. I think let him go. I just don’t see how he can motivate himslef and the team if he stayed. I would also add he was somehow the rigth type of coach for Zambia, ambitious and unknown trying to make a name for himslef by doing as well as he could….we need to find another like him not the Keshi’s of this world who believe they have been there, done that etc to an extent that if we don’t d well then its our fault not him to blame.

  17. Renard au revoir, merci beaucoup! Alebepa fye, there were no offers, it is just tricks to get better pay from FAZ. Anyway, let us wait and see.

  18. Let him go even tomorrow. He is a disgrace and has nothing to show for his association with the Zambia National Team. I personally feel, he has been a disaster and needed to be fired actually. Now that he has let the cat out of the bag, he has done us a favour as he has breached the terms of contract before it expired.

  19. Go Renard, send us a post card when you get there. No hard feelings, we will find talent amongst our own like we should have long before you came on the scene.

  20. renard this has been poorly managed by yourself. but again it’s nothing compared to the attitude and behaviour of your adversaries and critics . question is what do you achieve by sinking to their level? me thinks you have more to lose than they do. hope it’s not too late for you re apply your focus and complete the job you started

  21. Iyi picture ba Herve Renard balemoneka kwati nabanwa. Reporter ngalanda ati balinwa kukalipa. Bushe umuntu efyo amoneka amenso nenkanshi ifi kwati kabundi?

  22. so what?? wot does he want us to do?? start packing for him??? can he pliz follow the correct procedures of resigning and going for the so called “big team” he keeps talking about. we are not begging for him to stay are we??? am tired of hearing this man keep talking and talking about the same issue. the only reason why some one would behave like he is doing, is due to seeking attention or wanting people to plead with him to stay. as we can see it is not working! this man is a business man,he thinks zambia will offer him more money to stay. if only he knew zambians. he will continue talking like that. i would advice him to pack and go.we dont have money for him.

  23. Hahahaha ala ama jokes apa nayafula:d Anyway it would have been nice if Renhard had ambitions to take chipolopolo to greater heights than job seeking at Angola. If he goes well we move on.

  24. I can’t believe some of the comments here. For christ’s sake this is not a “till death do us apart” marriage, it’s a contract. And it’s coming to an end, so a coach can move on if he so wishes. No hard feelings. Each party to a contract honors their side and the rest is histrory. Nothing about who uses who, or not liking Zambia. A contract is business. There is no big game for Zambia between now and May and Renard can even opt to give notice and not wait for the end of his contract. An offer from a world cup participating team is any coach’s dream?
Some bloggers above are such cry babies or maybe they are just too naive or emotional junkies. Get over it and leave Renard alone.

  25. #9 I know it is just a picture but you need to have decency in what you portray about yourself. You may not mean the strangling depiction but someone may take it seriously. I do understand there all kinds of rights on this earth but I find your picture worrying, offensive, demeaning, no regard to women and life and I therefore readvise you

  26. #9 I know it is just a picture but you need to have decency in what you portray about yourself. You may not mean the strangling depiction but someone may take it seriously. Is that a cry of who you or want to be or admire? I do understand there all kinds of rights on this earth but I find your picture worrying, offensive, demeaning, no regard to women and life and I therefore advise you to change it.

  27. Renard has not done anything wrong. He was a coach dedicated to taking Chipolopolo even higher. You bloggers, campaigned for Renard`s exit and now that his time to go has come, why are you complaining. You can`t please Zambian soccer fans. That`s why that coach from Germany,( Buchard Ziese,i don`t know if that`s the correct spelling) took off from the tournament in Bukina Fasso and never came back. That is the treatment you appreciate you bloggers. You don`t like people like Renard, who are civil and business minded. If i were Renard i would do the same. The guy is out there to make money and when is contract has expired or about to, he has every reason to leave. The best you can do if you still need him is to make a counter offer. Thanx Renard for helping us build the team,we wish you well

  28. If one is a good coach, they should take on the challenge of coaching lowly ranked team. Why would you want to take on a highly ranked and proven team to show how good you are? We all know this guy is a failure and we should actually fire him if we can. We won one game, I don’t think that is some thing to be bragging about. Go away already!

  29. In life we all look for greener pastures and good package/big companies. If he wants to go, let him go and you can always find another good coach. Its not the end of the world for our team when Renald goes, soccer and life will continue for our beloved chipolopolo boys. Meanwhile the govt should invest more in soccer so that more talented young ones can join and make our country proud.

  30. Negotiation tactics. What Renard is doing is meant to make FAZ begin negotiations with him for a new enhanced contract. He is simply selling himself and making the stakes high by saying a World Cup bound team is interested in him. That will show he is more expensive to hire than before meaning that if FAZ want to keep him, they have to offer an enhanced package. Watch my words.

  31. So HR had a 101 offerz for hiz signature? And now he must use that to scare our gret Kalu and RB into keeping him around! Even if Zambia had won the AFCON, HR should have been given marching orderz and this claim of other “big nationz” seeking hiz servicez must be the eazy way out for FAZ to get rid of the Frenchman.

  32. Air France che!! If he wants go let him go, its not as if he’s got relatives here. Ni ulendo, bashi mwana….let’s get a Maths teacher now – kaili bola yathu ni ya ma sum….

  33. Let this Frenchman with “Holywood movie star looks” go. Patrick Phiri or we can even get Kinnah Phiri. These guys would do the job!!!

  34. FAZ HAS MADE IT CLEAR THAT THEY WOULD LOVE TO EXTEND HIS TOUR IF HE WANTS. WE ARE NOT IN A DESPERATE POSITION THAT IF HE DEMANDS US$20 00 WE WILL AGREE. HE CAN GO IF HE WANTS. HE WILL NOT HOLD US AT RANSOM. THE PROBLEM WE HAVE WITH OUR LOCAL COACHES IS THAT THEY HAVE NOT FURTHERED THEIR EDUCATION. SO THEY MAY KNOW THE JOB BUT IF THEY HAVE NO PAPERS THERE IS NOTHING FAZ CAN DO. THATS WHY THE LATE BEN BAMFUCHILE HAD TO RESIGN AND GO TO DO HIS UEFA GRADE A CERTIFICATE. AS WE SPEAK THER ONLY 2 ZAMBIAN WITH THAT QUALIFICATION. THE FIRST IS NO OTHER THAN KING KALU HIMSELF AND JANZA THE U20 COACH. SO COACHES MUST WORK UP AND INVEST. GONE ARE THE DAYS OF EXPERIENCE BECAUSE WE ARE TALKING ABOUT MONEY NOW. THE MINIMUM FOR UEFA A SALARY IS US$10 000. KALU WAS THE FIRST TO TASTE THIS ARRANGEMENT.

  35. IN VIEW OF HIS ‘PRONOUNCEMENTS’ FAZ IS OBVIOUSLY LOOKING AT PLAN B. SUNGA UMUKOSHI UBULUNGU TABWASHUPA FAZ..

    **==**==

  36. Herve Renard is a business man for sure…he cares nothing about this team! He knows that the quarterfinal result in the Africa Cup is a nice bargaining chip to use. This man has taken the Zambian team as far as he can. The Zambian team need someone who has a different vision; someone who is fully committed to not only inspiring the players but also the country. My opinion is to find an Italian, Portuguese or even a Spanish coach. Get someone from one of those countries; someone who has deep passion for the game. Then you’ll see how far your boys can go!

  37. Good coach,Zambians must learn to appreciate and be patient. We only need wins and not losses, let RB coach the team and tell me the results, even king Cobra can not bring HR’s results.Good luck HR,u have shamed non appreciating and talkative Zambians.

  38. Thanks Renard for taking our team that far. Move on for greener pasters, who does’nt need it anyway! You’re clever though and i think thats what life is all about ‘TO BE CLEVER’! You did what you could. No hard feelings and good luck bro!! Hey Zambians whats wrong with you… life goes on!!!!!!
