Vice President George Kunda has called for peaceful campaign in the 5th August Luena constituency parliamentary by election.

Mr. Kunda says government is interested in ensuring that the by-elections campaigns are held in a peaceful atmosphere.

He has since called on all participating political parties in the by – elections to conduct issue based and development oriented campaigns.

The Vice President was speaking at Nyayuma harbor in Limulunga this morning when he officiated at the Kufuluhela traditional ceremony of the Lozi speaking people of Western Province.

The bye- elections are set for August 5, 2010 for Luena following the resignation of area member of Parliament Charles Milupi.

While Mr. Mulipi s going to re-contest the seat on his newly formed Alliance for Development and Democracy (ADD), the ruling MMD has fielded a teacher, Mwangala Maopu, who has lived in the constituency for more than 30 years.

The United Party for National Development (UPND) has adopted former Zambia Consumer Association (ZACA) executive director Muyunda Ililonga as the party’s candidate for Luena.

  1. Of course, your Honour peace is very important in the nation. UPND is the only party in this Luena bye election which can disturb the peace (remember Mapatizya, Mufumbwe?) but they will not do so this time:
    1. after being taken to court for the Mufumbwe violence they dare not repeat. That petition is a real deterrent to UPND.
    2. they are no match for any of their opponents in Luena, even PF can do better (I don’t mean winning).
    3. they are busy licking their wounds in the Pact, too tired to campaign.
    4. Bo Muyunda is not a politician, he did not even have to stand in elections in his ZACA days, much like Sata’s PF.

  2. It is not enough for UPND to just get out of the pact. The alliance that the post has created with Sata should totally be defeated. Day in day out the castigation of MMD even on totally unfounded allegations has not taken us anywhere. I have just returned from one UPND stronghold and people are tired of the post ever predicting the death of opposition parties not in line with them. I have with me the editorials soon after the election of HH to UPND leadership. The post is willing to hate without facts. But people must not accept willful spread of this hatred. We are a peace loving country and we jointly must say NO to a hoodlum in statehouse. I ask UPND voters to do one more honorable thing in 2011

  3. UPND is winning this seat..come what may..Kunda is a patient and may be speaking out of overdose..viva Muyunda..

  4. I hope all these Lozi voters in Luena remember how one of their own, Sakwiba Sikota, was chased from the UPND by stinking Tonga tribal bigots who wanted the party to be a pure Tonga affair. Now that they are in trouble with the Pact, they come scamparing like fugitives to Barotseland saying “mbuya mbuya vote for me.” Zambia does not need such stinking tribalism and I do not care who the Luenese vote for, as long as its not Hakainde’s candidate.

  5. you disgruntled chap..mind your useless language..stop being an impostor..respect your fellow beings..you are the useless tribalists we don’t need in zambia..die from tehre ..am a full time Zambian and proud ..not you..chimutu ala!
