MMD Kafulafuta Member of Parliament George Mpombo has been suspended from Parliament for a period of seven days for calling George Kunda as the most stupid vice president in a story published in the Post newspapers edition of 5th July 2010.
This was after Mr Mpombo was found guilty by the Committee on Parliamentary Privileges and Support Services of breaching parliamentary privileges and etiquette.
Mr Mpombo was to have committed contempt of the house for attacking the vice president’s debate outside the House.
The Parliamentary committee recommended that he be suspended from the House for two months in accordance with the provisions of section 28(1) of the National Assembly powers and privileges Act.
Deputy Speaker of the National Assembly Mutale Nalumango in making the ruling however said that owing to the fact that parliament shall be prolonged after it adjourns sine die today, Mr Mpombo will only be suspended for a period of one week.
Mrs Nalumango further said that Mr Mpombo who was not in the House will in addition not take part in the business of the House or of its Committee.
She further said that the former defence minister will during the period of his suspension not receive any salary or allowance and will not be allowed to undertake any activity in his capacity as Member of Parliament in his constituency or anywhere else outside parliament.
She added that Mr Mpombo’s attacks on the vice president amounts to gross misconduct and was totally unwarranted.
Mwense Member of Parliament Jacob Chongo raised the point of order on 7th July 2010 on whether Mr Mpombo was in order to make derogatory remarks against the vice president who is the leader of government business in the House and insult him in the press on matters raised in the House.

RB has no chance in the following provinces: CB, Central, Lusaka, North (All PF strongholds); W (ADD stronghold as of now); NW (ADD or UPND) Southern (UPND). THE Ndola magistrate court this morning convicted former defence minister George Mpombo on one count of issuing a cheque on an insufficiently funded account.
Mr Mpombo may have the best motives in what he says or does, but in a democracy, he has only disgraced himself, his family and his children. The man should go away and disappear. His children must be wishing the world opened up and swallowed them every time he opens his mouth.

Mpombo has been convicted but he will be sentenced on monday. They just want to make sure that he feels the prison during the weekend just like what they did to Fred M’membe. Shame on you, one day God will surely redeem us.
Shame on who? Law is law and it doesn’t matter who is involved. If a former president has been going to court for ten years, army generals have been jailed, who is Mpombo to be above the law? Wake up and stop your cadre mentality. Mess the law and you will face the consequences, whether or not people are using it to get back at you.
