Chipungu Calls for Probe on Feasting Athletes

Share

Sports minister Kenneth Chipungu has launched a commission of inquiry into the poor performance by Zambia’s feasting athletes at the Commonwealth Games in India.

Chipungu said today that it seems like the team focused more on banqueting in New Delhi than competing at the Commonwealth Games.

“I have constituted a committee to investigate why Zambia performed poorly and come up with recommendations,” Chipungu said.

“We cannot continue with this performance year in year out. We need to pull our socks and learn from other countries.

“I warned these guys. You know that if you concentrate too much on food you won’t perform and it is like that happened.”

Zambia finished medal-less in what was a mediocre performance by most of the 22-member team especially in the squash, athletics, boxing and swimming where the competitors all made early exists.

  1. Its sports facilities at grassroot level. Just invest into infrastracture, it will show. Has Kasama or Mpulungu got squash courts….

  2. I like this by Chipungu:”I warned these guys. You know that if you concentrate too much on food you won’t perform and it is like that happened.”
Awe kwenze kudya zoona.Iam sure others were eveb demanding for beer and brandy competing with HO.lol

  3. Chipungu stop with your backward thinking. These Athletes performed poorly because they lack adequate training facilities in Zambia. Learn to think Macro and act micro.

The poor athletes were feasting because they eat chisense everyday kumwabo so dear minister take care of this problem pa grassroot or shut the h.e.l.l. up.

  4. What can they do if no one is taking care f them- ukubutuka 30km or Matero to Woodlands Extension, you think that is enough training? them boys and girls can do so much well if only you guys in gov can help- not like that coach for national Team who is in Italy coaching Zambia on line-

  5. Ba minister dont be stupid – how can they not concentrate on food when they are hungry. Make athletics like any other job with a salary and benefits and see how performance will improve. I dont think these guys want to go and lose – pay them well so they are fed and see how they ran for their lives. :)>-

  6. Stop wasting money. Commission of Inquiry when reasons are obvious!!! On second thoughts, I’ll be happy to sit on this commission and have a share in the loot.

  7. All these inquiries are a sheer waste of time and money.Surely the minister should be aware of the poor sports training facilities, lack of adequate training, lack of training personnel, lack of competitions locally and abroad before such events and of course “lack of funds” because some kapokos have creamed it off.

  8. BWANA MINISTER, PLEASE THINK BEFORE YOU MAKE SUCH STATEMENTS. READING YOUR REACTION, JUST MAKES YOU LOOK VERY UNIFORMED OF THE RUNNING OF SPORT IN ZAMBIA. WORK ON PROPER SPORT INFRASTRUCTURE, THEN YOU CAN COMPALIN ABOUT UNDER-PERFORMANCE, NOT SAYING THAT I ENCOURAGE POOR PERFORMANCE. LOOK AT WELL ZAMBIAN USED TO PERFORM WELL IN THE TIMES OF ZCCM, WERE SPORT WAS ENCOURAGED AND SUPPORTED WITH PROPER SPORTING INFRASTRUCTURE.

  9. What unreasonable thinking by this minister.

The minister is surely not resident in Zed because if he was, he would not constitute a Commission of Inquiry when all it calls for is for him to visit the training facilities were these sportmen/women train from.

Facilities are dilapidated starting from the Independence Stadium, Nkana, Nchanga, Mufulira, etc and a brainless minister for sport does not know why Zambia failed at the olympics and has failed at all other international sporting events.

Bwana minister, it is better that you request to be moved to another ministry which needs a minister of your quality and calibre instead of wasting tax-payers money on a senseless Commission of Inquiry which you have set up to benefit yourself and some of your mates.

    Shame on You.

  10. #10 Mutombela Kulukungu
There is an outbreak of such names pa blog.Ya shani guys?Mutombela this….Mutombela that…..

  11. VJ Rigger – Yashani iyo..you can also change your name to mutombela mwanga or munganda. At least close to VJ M instead of rigger.

  12. I like the Sports Minister’z advice to the popularly elected FAZ executive; ” …. call for an emergency council meeting and seek a fresh mandate from the electorate, and becauze you are popular, you’ll re-elected eazily….”(Times of Zambia).
But this commission of inquiry iz a neither here nor there thing, just forget about it.

  13. Chipungu never seems to be short of nonsense to say, FOOD!!!!!!!!! he is talking about FOOD !!!!!! how petty minded can you get please. We expect a national leader to be talking about how he is going to get the athletics body in order and how his ministry is looking at serious workshops for the coaches and how he is going to bring in at least one expatriate to train just one discipline like long distance track. Thats what we want to hear but here is our national leader exposing how small his brain is. The best he could come up with is FOOD !! Chipungu one lesson you need to learn Mr. small brain, in silence even an ***** can pass for a wise man. Sometimes its just good to shut up.

  14. The Perfomance was predictable. Whilst medal hopefuls / high performers & record holders from other countries were busy withdrawing from the games due to health & safety fears, our over-rated under achievers were busy at the airport eager go get on the Jumbo jet to India. what do u expect Mr. Chipungu. We were amongst the 1st to arrive and the first NOT to win any medals. I think for this, they should have given us a medal. This is a RECORD for the Games.

  15. Hon. Minister, you’re not fit to occupy that office. Commission of Enquiry my @ss. Our athletes poor performance is due to poor facilities and lack of youth sports development. Why do our politicians want to reap where they didn’t sow? Charles Musonda’s boys have been part of Anderlecht’s youth development program since age 5! Manje ise, we don’t support our youngsters yet expect them to deliver miracles? Chipungu, you’re a clown…
