  1. The welfare of the miners needs to be seriously looked into. As mining productions goes up to maximise profits, the risks to the miners also become greater. The government should not just focus on attracting investments especially in the mining sector without putting up policies that look into the interests of the miners favourably. Health and Safety legislature needs to be put in place so that deaths such as the story above should be minimised or even eliminated altogether. It should also be costly to the mine owners for each miner that dies on the job, that will compel the mining companies to make sure that the working conditions of the miners are excellent. Our miners also need to get paid top rates because the job is dangerous, they should be getting more money than what MPs get.

  2. When will our mines going to become safe? What has happened to the strict safety measures that ZCCM had in place?

On top of losing lives, we are getting very little out of them.

What is wrong with the monkey’s toilet govt?

  3. Why is it that in third world countries “Zambia” miners are paid peanuts, while in developed countries, say “Australia” miners are the highly paid when copper is sold at the same market. If the cost of production is very high in Zambia miners can still get paid at least half salary of a miner in Australia or New Zealand. Some mines in Australia are Chinese mines but miners are highly paid because the Govt cant allow peanut salaries.

  4. We need to get rid of Rupiah Banda. Sad that the Chinese can have the audacity first to be changing Company names every five years to continue evading tax and then have the audacity to give such stupid conditions to our employees. We need to change government come what may and bring sanity and dignity to our Zambian hardworking Miners. May the good Lord help us.

  5. Some of us with relatives working for the mines are always worried when are relatives report for work until when they knock off that’s when we are relived. its not safe to work in the mines in Zambia
