COMESA to relax migration laws

Share

Common Market for Eastern and Southern Africa -COMESA-member countries have stepped up efforts to relax migration regulations.

COMESA Secretary General SINDISO NGWENYA says there is political will at a very high level in the region, to ensure that there is free movement of people among member countries.

Mr. NGWENYA says free movement of goods in the region should be complimented with free movement of people.

He however has pointed out that relevant measures to combat human trafficking should be taken into account.

Mr. NGWENYA was speaking in Lusaka on Monday at a meeting for Chief Immigration Officers for Comesa countries.

And Southern Dimension International Center for Migration Policy Development Director LUKAS GREHRKE said issues concerning migration governance require concerted efforts from various stakeholders.

  1. This is good news so that people with high earning potential can easily move to countries where the are respected and we shall see how govt that take abuse of their intellectuals will get the tax from. Their tax base will shrink

  2. Yea so that loafing zambians with their degrees can at least go south to look fo jobs instead of just blogging on LT

  3. This will be a tough one with COMESA. I believe this can work well in the SADCC region because pipo have a common culture. COMESA has countries like EGYPT. Well good idea otherwise. By the way South Africa is not a COMESA member..

  4. What goes around comes around, unsless immigration is delt with, otherwise migration will promote illigal immigrants if checks and balances are not taken into conderation, and that will distabilize economic migration.

  5. We don’t want kenyans here in zambia they don’t play fair. Those people have flooded south sudan, have their companies all over the EAC and bring with them their own workers.Besides it is hard to separate kenyan somalis and those from somalia so that is an added security risk.

  6. You are right #5. I am unable to comment on Sata’s love for dirty cash. The system can’t take blogs there. But here is what I wanted to say on that article:
But for sure how can this man support gays and lesbians. I for one can never ever think that such people are normal. I mean gays and lesbians. These are the people that need help wherever they exist and here is a man who wants such marubbish to be given space in Zambia. To hell with “Yakumbuyo”. Your days are numbered. It is for this reason that Sata will never be president here in Zambia. Maybe kuDenmark kwamene uko!

  7. Yes, thumbs up ba MMD. So that, during elections you end up having more extra people voting for MMD. Ya ya ya awe fikali:)))

  10. Good morning

#14 You seem to have a big problem about a trivial matter. You and #3 must be one and the same because you’re the only ones around here who are concerned about the source of the news. The rest of us dont really care where the reports come from as long as we are kept informed.

While you worry and fret about your insignificant little problem, there is someone having a worse time than you. Whole communities were destroyed in minutes in a devastating earthquake in Japan and those that survived are now living in panic for fear of nuclear misenergy from the damaged atomic stations. Now that’s what I call REAL PROBLEMS!

  11. #14 youu are free to just read the post. LT never claimed they’d be producing their own stories. the aim was to put zambian news in one place.

  12. Edmund @ 14 – LT is just a news aggregator, meaning they get news from newspapers including the Post if you haven’t noticed.
Otherwise, this easing of migration idea is not good news. We’ll end up with all sorts of crooks from countries like Kenya and desperadoes from countries like Zimbabwe who will not add value to our country. We can do without such people.

  13. COMESA Secretary General SINDISO NGWENYA says there is political will at a very high level in the region, to ensure that there is free movement of people among member countries.
Why is it that our countries are committed to such proposals, which are likely to have far-reaching consequences, without any debate at community level or in parliament? This will simply fuel xenophobia….

  14. i dont know why zambia maintaining membership with comesa and saddc. i think saddc would be a much better deal
