VETERAN rugby player, Musonda Kaminsa was on Sunday arrested in Ndola following two fatal accidents which claimed national sevens coach, Owen Busange and two other players on the Ndola-Kitwe Dual Carriageway.

And Busange who died in a road accident on Saturday will be buried in Chililabombwe today after a post-mortem which will be conducted in Ndola at 08.00 hours this morning.

Copperbelt police chief, Martin Malama said in an interview yesterday that Kaminsa, 33, was arrested for causing death by dangerous driving.

Malama said Ndola police also nabbed Andrew Chabilika, 34, whose BMW vehicle hit and killed Busange and Lusaka rugby player, Kapasa Bwalya after careering off the road, for causing death by dangerous driving.

Kaminsa has since been bonded to enable him seek medical attention for a deep cut he sustained during the road accident while Chabilika was still in police custody.

The duo is expected to appear in court soon.
On Saturday night, Kaminsa’s Toyota Hilux Twincab registration number ACM 6192, careered off the road near the junction to the Ndola Girls Technical High School, killing United Kingdom-based rugby player, Mwango Katema on the spot.

Chabilika’s BMW registration number ACL 9599, also swerved off the road at the same spot and hit Busange, Bwalya and other players.

Malama said Busange died on the spot after sustaining head injuries while Bwalya died later at Ndola Central Hospital. Eight other players sustained injuries.

Zambia Rugby Football Union (ZRFU) communications manager Martin Musunka, who announced Busange’s burial programme in a statement, said the procession will start from Ndola soon after the postmortem and burial will take place in Chililabombwe upon arrival of the body.

Musunka said the Lusaka Rugby Club executive committee has opened a book of condolences for all rugby stakeholders to sign and that all the players who were injured from the two accidents have all been treated and discharged from Ndola Central Hospital.

These are Kaminsa, Kaiko Lungu, Chancy Mulama, Isaan Munganga, Chipampa Mwila, Taona Kalunga and Julius Kalunga. Another player was from Kitwe who travelled with the late Busange, Fidelis Kachusha.

  1. MTSRIP. Its very sad.

It must also be me but I cant understand the Sequence or logical explanation in the story. I dont think its well written. Someone advise please who undertands it.

    Thanks

  2. I do not think I agree with the charge th police are rushing to im pose on these innocent surviving drivers. that spot is just a death trap which most of us drivers who use that road have survived on whether you are fast or not. if it rains like it did on saturday there was so much water that those drivers that used that part of the road had problems negotiating their cars. i was one of them who used that road same saturday night around 21hrs before the fatal accidents. what i am saying is that those drivers should be released unconditionally and RDA needs to just move in and repair that road to make it safe for motorists. they need to level that part of the road so that the pool of water is avoided everytime it rains heavily.

I do not think I agree with the charges the police are rushing to impose on these innocent surviving drivers. whilst i syphathise with the incident, that spot is just a death trap which most of us drivers who use that road have survived on whether you are fast or not. if it rains like it did on saturday there was so much water that those drivers that used that part of the road had problems negotiating their cars after going through it. I was one of them who used that road same saturday night around 21hrs before the fatal accidents. what I am saying is that those drivers should be released unconditionally and RDA needs to just move in and repair that road to make it safe for motorists. they need to level that part of the road so that the pool of water is avoided everytime it rains heavily

  4. I am wondering the same Ba Maureen #11. We are still in that state of mind where we talk democracy but practice monarchy… I earlier said whenever something happens in a certain way, the law statutes are invoked and applied with glee… aside from that, the systemic matters that should lead to a fair dispensation are always missing.

  5. Please help toughen the law on our roads. Drunken driving? Sign posts on dangerous areas? Dual roads on single dangerous roads? Rectifying areas where we get repeated accidents, etc.

  6. so you tell me in USA you have no potholes. the guys were drunk and driving at excessive speed. i feel for the loss of lives busange and katema the young man from uk. ba pf even in usa such accidents do happen but as usual pipo with small minds full of poop from tuma old white men they clean arses you gonna blame govt and say if sata or hh was president that accident could have been avoided

  7. Honestly, two cars carrer of the road at the same point and you blame it on “dangerous driving”. How about “dangerous roads”?

  8. As shimaini says, that spot is a real hazard when it rains and as usual it has to take a fatal accident to jolt people into action around these parts. I have seen several cars spun-off the road at this same spot even during broad day light after heavy rains and no one flagged it, including myself. I guess its a lesson for all of us, when you think the hazard does not concern you only for it to take your loved one, or someone you know or just someone, period. R.I.P guys.

  9. The roblem is that our so-called leaders dont travel on the roads we use. They fly and dont care about us. Those two drivers should infact sue RDA for failing to repair that stretch. period !

  10. Each one of us has an appointment with our creator which cannot be postponed. As # 17 that maybe ZP need to think beyond the drivers and accept that maybe the spot needs to be looked at structurally. I understand last year another person had an accident and died at the same spot during a particularly wet day. Think a little better than that ZP guys. Those two guys are traumatised enough without heaping blame on them.

  11. Ba Shazza its not a pothole its just the road collects water and when drive on it, its like driving on a river and you loose control of the stearing, those drivers are not the only ones that loose control, expecialy when its just from raining, So someone has said let the RDA look into it,

  12. My heart goes out to the families of Mwango, Owen and Kapasa. Muzo, you are in our prayers God will see you through this trying time. What a great loss to the nation.

  13. What happened is after Kamisa careered off the road and hit into a tree, the other rugby players who were following behind in another vehicle stopped to help out their friends, thats when the BMW came and hit into them when it also careered off the road. I wonder if RDA and government have done anything about that spot yet or are we waiting for RB or Kunda to have an accident there thats when they gonna act?

  14. No 1 Dobo that person you are talking about doesn’t even think about the families of the bereaved! There are already ghosts creeping up from Western Province! More important MTSRIP!

  15. may the almighty GOD, comfort the families, as he is the only one who can and knows what they are going through!!! no amount of words can comfort the families but only divine intervention, so this moment i say a special pray to the families ‘O father in heaven, you have all the answers, please comfort them in anyway you know best, they are hurting beyond what we all can imagine.” thank you father for you have heard our prayers “AMEN”

  16. Police in Zambia treart everyone guilty until you prove otherwise. They dont even know how to investigate.
Busange and his brother have done a lot for rugby in the cvountry. MHSRIP. Commodore hope you will be ok. I am sure you are too heartbroken. Be strong Br we are all behind you

  17. The story is sad indeed … why should the so called police rush into slapping charges on the drivers? These unreasonable police officers should instead slap it on the government “Causing death by neglecting the road tax payers have paid for …”

  18. May their souls rest in peace.

Our problem as a country is that we wait for calamities to happen before we do what we should have done years ago. Who is in charge of ensuring that roads are safe to drive on? Where is our tax money going, where is the fuel levy going, if not to assist in reparing roads, schools and health facilities? Right now almost all roads are not safe to drive on, they are death traps and yet GRZ with whoever it has appointed to oversee the maintnenace of roads has gone to sleep!!

Maybe we should have several ministers die on these death traps for GRZ to move!! It is such a tragedy to lose so many young lives because of a bad stretch of road.

  19. As I mentioned before. Players should travel in one bus with a designated driver. Usually players get drunk after winning a game and then drive home on high speeds.

  20. My condolenses to the families. I don’t actually understand the sequence of events. however i wouldn’t rule out DUI(Driving under the influence here).

  21. Great loss to the rugby fratenity. Go well gentlemen we shall meet when our time comes. Great coach and great players you were. It’s so painful. I only knew you gentlemen through watching you play but it hurts like you were family. MYSRIP

  22. Better not use Kaminsa as a scapegoat. Investigate the accident. The state of the road could have been a factor too.

  23. Bad roads and nobody cares, I do not understand why all the MP’s move to Lusaka, we see them after 5 years?

  24. It might be a black spot but no doubt about it, these guys were flying! Its About time Buso realized life is more than money and fun. His arrogance is the cause of all these deaths. If he could listen to people about his over speeding this would not have happened. Besides, he just survived another two weeks prior when coming for the nchanga 10’s. True, guys..

  25. my heart goes out to the children who are too young and the wife who is expecting.may God give her the strenth.RIP oj my friend i wil surely miss u.

  26. Ba Dr. Malama please go through what the bloggers have commented. What needs to be done urgently is to warn motorists about that particula spot.
Its sad to lose great sportsmen in the likes of Busange ,Kapasa and Katema. Its a great loss to the nation.Rest in Him

  27. it is such a bizarre accident, I’ve been lot for words since I the day. Instead of trying to witch-hunt, Zambian authorities need to see that there is a need to improve our road safety, let alone infrastructure. Just a week before these deaths, another friend of mine got ran over in Kitwe and had to have her whole leg amputated. Our roads have no street lights whatsoever and the tarmac isn’t as robust as it should be. My family and I had a bad crash on the other side of Ndole (Ndola-Kapiri) and my mother has now lost use of her legs. Had the stationary vehicle in front been seen before hand, non of that would have happened. Rupiah and your compadres, people are dying unnecessary deaths, please wake up and smell the coffee.

  28. Can’t really say Mwango was my friend but he certainly had something about him…always had a smile on his face and was always very positive. He always encouraged me at the gym in Birmingham and told me to just push on. Awe surely he (and the others) have gone way too soon. I just pray for deeper strength and peace for Manenga, Mwango’s mom, sister and brother. MYSRIEP till we meet again.
