Former finance and national planning minister Ng’andu Magande says he was surprised that President Rupiah Banda left him out of his Cabinet after winning the 2008 presidential election.
Mr Magande who had challenged President Banda during the MMD national executive committee elections to elect the party’s presidential candidate ahead of the 2008 presidential election says he is to date still puzzled today at being left out by President Banda.
He questions why President Banda thought he would not work with him when he assumed the presidency.
Mr Magande says during the time he served in the government of late former President Levy Mwanawasa were President Banda was vice president he never quarreled with him hence was surprised at being left out.
Mr Magande who is National Movement for Progress President was responding to a caller on when appeared on QFM’s Monday Nite Live last evening who asked him why he should not consider working with president Banda to develop the country.

Some good comments on the blog so far and as others have already alluded to, RB was within his right to choose his cabinet. There is no automatic entry point, the President has the right to hire and he reserves the right to fire, that would have been a better answer. To start with, when Levy died, you teamed up with Fred Prophet M’membe, Maureen Mwanawasa, and Silver Masebo to undermine and oust RB. So now you are saying, while you were having private meeting with the above names, you still wanted RB to keep you in his Cabinet and ear from both corners.

We should ignore the fact that Sata expelled the so-called PF rebels and the fact that he has never had an election within pf. Mr Magande is a naive politician who thought that he was indispensable because he over rates himself. First and foremost in management do not allow anybody to believe that they are indispensable and that is exacly what RB did by not bringing Mr Magande in his cabinet. Secondly, the formation of his own party is another gross miscalculation by Peter due to his thinking that people of Zambia would give him all the credit for the turn around of the economy when infact that was due to team work and other factors. Lastly, Mr Magande should learn that there are no permanent enemies in politics. Mr. Magande ignored all tennets of intra-Party democracy by declaring that Mwanawasa anoointed him to take over the Republican Presidency. His stance then was an open insult to a sitting Vice Presidency. Naturally RB could not trust Magande who was hell-bent to humiliate the then Vice President.
