Electoral Commission of Zambia Director Priscilla Isaacs (L)

Electoral Commission of Zambia Director Priscilla Isaacs said political parties were free to conduct
their campaigns despite the ECZ not having given a go ahead to the exercise as long as they did not violet the Constitution and the Penal Code.

Mrs. Isaacs stated that this was an election year and that the Commission could not stop people from campaigning as long as they were cleared by the Zambia Police Service. Speaking during the ZNBC programme dubbed National Watch yesterday

She explained that people have the right of assembly under the Zambian constitution as long as their assembly did not cause conduct likely to breach the law.

Meanwhile, Mrs Isaacs has called on all registered voters in the country to turn up in large numbers and vote during this year’s elections.

Mrs. Isaacs said people should exercise their right to vote in order to choose a leader of their choice. ZANIS reports that she said people should not exhibit apathy in voting because doing so would not help the country in any way.

And Mrs. Isaacs said the electoral body would only allow two election agencies per polling station in this year’s elections.

She explained that only one election agency would be allowed inside the polling station on the polling day adding that the two agencies would carryout the work to reduce congestion.

Mrs. Isaacs explained that this would also apply to election monitors from various political parties contesting in this year’s elections.

  1. ECZ appear to be signalling a possible announcement for the election date. About bl**dy time!

  2. The commission could not stop people from campaining. What a contradictory!! Who stopped parties from doing so before? Any way, tell us also the election day.

  3. Whoever did not know that this is an election year and campaigns were in full swing is a joker, honestly. Voting date? September 29. You head it or read it here first.

  4. those asking is talkingo campaign just last month shikapwasha warned radio station carry out campaign materail in their program. when mmd is doing the same on govt media so this statement is contradictory to the one of the minister of information showing how mmd confused are about ds years elections.

  5. the only party which is ready for elections is mmd. they have held their convention and emerged unscathed and very strong, we still have to see what their closest rival party has to offer in terms of internal party elections. the election already belongs to mmd even if they did not campaign. mmd campaigns are only to ensure that the nearest rival gets less than 10% of the vote. they have no serious challenge and their campaign has been reduced to putting dots and commas in the answers. now please do not attack me, i did not mention any party, not even pf.

  6. Priscilla be honest. Just tell the nation the people involved in illegal campaigns are too powerful for ECZ to handle!

  7. ECZ seem to be the puppets here whilst the puppeteer RB seems to be dictating the order & pace of this election.

  8. ECZ is full of comedy. . . One Akufuna quoted some section which made campaigning before announcement of election date illegal. Shikapusha or such also said no campaigns on TV or radio. But what has changed to the sections which our brothers quoted. Ya Zed is full of comedy. . . .

  9. @9, as soon as ecz completes and certifies the electoral register by 31st July, but some parties are not yet ready, they still have conventions pending.

  10. #7 Ba PF Government! what world are you living in, Mars? Wake up! MMD are scared sh.i.t.less of non other than PF this year because PF’s support country-wide has and continues to grow. ‘Now please don’t attack me, I did not mention any party’ What a hypocrite! You do not need to mention any party because it is common knowledge. Stop dreaming my friend…

  11. infact you mention PF everytime you blog because thats your chosen blogger’s name. Did you not notice that?

  12. ‘as long as they did not violet the Constitution and th’ LT needs a proof reader. You always make spelling mistakes in your articles. It’s violate not violet,.
I CAN’T WAIT TO VOTE FOR THE FIRST TIME! AND I WON’T TELL ANYONE WHO I WILL VOTE FOR.

  13. Dear ladies and gentlemen, this year’s Tripatite elections where the MMD will suffer a humiliating defeat at the hands of the *************are slated for 29 SEPTEMBER 2011.Please dont say you were not told.Enjoy your violent free campaign period.

  14. The red nose clown from state house circus still believes this is the 20th century of UNIPian ideas. It’s difficult to imagine what’s so complicated about announcing the day of elections. The old f/art will die with the date still logged in his small brain. He’s a piece of ancient garbage c/rap this Rupiah Bozo clown. Filthy s/tinking maggot with m/onkey brains, st/upid ape

  15. Funny that after many years of holding elections in Zambia congestion at a polling station is now considered a threat to the election process. With all the tension in the country between political parties when it comes to this very important subject, can Mrs Isaacs really justify keeping any political party out of the polling station? ECZ does not sound like a body with the interests of the country at heart. Totally misguided if you ask me!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  16. We want to vote Sata and bring the whole Portugal back to Zambia! Pabwaaaaaaaaaaaaatoooooo!

  17. Mrs Priscilla Isaac are reading from the same Lt Gen Ronnie Shikapwasha reads? Only recently Shikapwasha was threatening private adio stations who accept campaign masseges from political parties!!!!! Or is that the powerful MMD yet with declining support had already started illegal campaigns because Rupiah Banda Had not announced the elections Date? Well what is important now after checking flaws in voters’ roll is the election date. TULE VOTA UNO MWAKA. ANSO NKAVOTELA KU LEFT. PYEEEEEEEEEEEEE!!!!!!!!!
