The Zambia Police service has recorded an increase in road traffic accidents during the first quarter of this year compared to last year.
Police have attributed the increase in the number of accidents to failure by motorists to obey traffic rules.
Spokesperson Ndandula Siamana says a total of 5 110 accidents were recorded this year in the first quarter.
This is over figures for last year which stand at 392 accidents.
Ms Siamana says Lusaka has recorded the highest number with 2 710, while Luapula recorded the lowest with 48 cases.
Ms Siamana has advised motorists to refrain from taking alcohol when driving or driving under the influence of beer.

I AGREE, POLICE OFFICERS IN ZAMBIA HAVE BECOME VERY CORRUPT AND NO ONE IS DOING ANYTHING ABOUT THIS.
WHAT THE POLICE ARE DOING NOW IS, WHEN THEY ARREST YOU, EVEN FOR A TRIVIAL MATTER. YOU WILL TAKEN TO CENTRAL POLICE STATION BEHIND WHERE THEY WILL GIVE YOU FAKE CHARGES ANDÂ THREATENÂ YOU THAT IF YOU GO INSIDE,YOU WILL PAY MORE. DRIVERS END UP NEGOTIATING WITH THEM AND PAY A FINE.

What is the legal limit for Driving under the influence in Zambia? Sweety you’re talking about the figures and not stating the measures that your disfunctional institution will take.People have died..people that. why sounding like an alarmist and not assuring the general public that your institution will get tough on DUI. Driving under the influence and re-inforce punishment with yanking the driving previlage from them. Those involved in accident under the influence should go to jail for a long time with atleast 10 years suspended driving privilede.
