Zambia’s Diseased Conscience: When Bereavement and Sickness Become Political Weapons

FLASHBACK: President Rupiah Banda, Tanzanian Jakaya Kikwete and UPND leader Hakainde Hichilema at the Lwiindi Gonde traditional ceremony in Monze.

By Elias Munshya wa Munshya

Of all politicians Hakainde Hichilema had handled himself very well and very maturely during the week of mourning President Frederick Jacob Titus Chiluba. In fact, I almost was going to pen an article highlighting how the so called “under-five politician” had handled himself most maturely in mourning President Chiluba. Indeed, HH had handled himself far much better than Michael Sata.

Hichilema had a great week, at least until yesterday. He paid glowing tribute to the late Chiluba. He donated a token from his vast wealth as a symbolic way of mourning. He earlier in the week, called a press conference where he received some defectors from the MMD and then suspended his campaigns to mourn Chiluba. I thought that was good for him.

I thought that is the way to go. But alas! just a day after burying Chiluba, HH became susceptible to a major weakness. He poked fun at Sata’s illness in criticizing his absence at Chiluba’s funeral and burial. According to Hakainde Hichilema, Michael Sata had failed to show up for the funeral because he was very sick.

In painting a contrast between himself and the sick Sata, Hakainde gave himself to serious vanity. And it is this vanity that is symptomatic of the illness of our nation. It is not just Sata who is sick in Zambia. It seems that going by what we are concentrating on, we are all sick. Beginning from newspapers up to the greatest politicians, we are very fast going bananas and what we need as a nation is to have serious reflection on who we are and what our values are.

[pullquote]Hichilema had a great week, at least until yesterday.[/pullquote]

The Patriotic Front, begun the week of mourning on a very silly note. It was Given Lubinda who announced so unashamedly that his Party President Michael Sata and indeed the entire PF party had resolved not to attend Chiluba’s funeral based on some threats they had received from the likes of William Banda. This did not make sense at all.

First, the PF as a party is so complex and comprises so sundry members that it is absurd to put a blanket ban on its members to mourn Chiluba. Did Lubinda need reminding that Chiluba had for several years under Mwanawasa been a member of the PF itself?

[pullquote]And then Sata announced on one of the online newspapers that he had not appeared in public during Chiluba’s funeral because he had gone on a spiritual retreat to intercede for Chiluba’s soul. Since when did Sata become the pope?[/pullquote]

Second, the announcement came too early in the week of mourning. You do not make such premature announcements before you see how the week was going to turn out. In contravention of this ban from Lubinda it was indeed quite embarrassing that Michael Sata went to Mulungushi Conference Center to view the body of Frederick Chiluba. What had happened to the ban that had been put just five days before? The PF had seriously miscalculated.

And then Sata announced on one of the online newspapers that he had not appeared in public during Chiluba’s funeral because he had gone on a spiritual retreat to intercede for Chiluba’s soul. Since when did Sata become the pope? In fact, does Sata need reminding that it is Zambian tradition not to go on a retreat when a friend is dead? Zambians do not hide from funerals; they show up to mourn their departed compatriots. The week was bad for Sata as it was bad for the Patriotic Front.

Rumours that Michael Sata is very sick have made rounds during the week of mourning. In fact, one online tabloid made it a point to show and prove that Michael Sata is sick and that this sickness makes him unsuitable for election as president. Reading from the tabloid it misquotes the constitution of the republic of Zambia by asserting bizarrely that a president must be not be a sick.

Our country is dangerously going bananas. After these allegations, Michael Sata came out strong denying the rumours. He came out forcefully against the allegations and even recorded several interviews denying that he had been sick. I find both the allegation and the denial of the allegation to be symptomatic of our nation’s sickness. Do some Zambians expect Michael Sata to be a superman who never gets sick? And should Sata so defend himself against these allegations almost as if being temporarily indisposed is a bad thing? If Michael is not feeling too well, how does that become a political issue? Do politicians lose the right to contract malaria or diarrhoea simply because we do not expect them to be ill?

[pullquote]The constitution does not say that a president may never be sick. It mentions that a president must be mentally fit, and of course physically capable of carrying out his duties.[/pullquote]

The constitution does not say that a president may never be sick. It mentions that a president must be mentally fit, and of course physically capable of carrying out his duties. But this requirement does not preclude a president having Cholera, AIDS, TB, Ulcers, Cancer or even Hypertension. Presidents are human, and they have a human right to be sick, and a human right to die! We must desist from this nonsense of trivialising the gift of life. It is God who gives us life, but if for some reason one among us is not feeling too well we should not treat them like lepers. Sata’s ability to rule Zambia should not be predicated on whether he has been put on bed rest for a week or a month. It should be predicated on issues affecting Zambians, issues like food, water and shelter,

[pullquote]Sata, who is a victim of political uses of his personal sickness, is using Mpezeni’s sickness as a political weapon against Rupiah.[/pullquote]

The idea that government owes famous people the right to Morningside evacuation has been used by politicians from both sides of the aisle. Opposition leaders use Morningside when it suits them and so does the ruling party. Michael Sata had been an ardent critic of Morningside at least until Mwanawasa evacuated him there. Morningside is responsible for turning two bitter enemies, Mwanawasa and Sata into good friends. Sata has continued to use the Morningside criticism to put pressure on governments. And in the latest effort, he is condemning the Rupiah government for failing to evacuate His Majesty Nkhosi Mpezeni who has been ill. If reports are correct, Sata has found the sickness of Mpezeni as a political opportunity to show that Banda does not care enough for his own paramount chief.

Sata, who is a victim of political uses of his personal sickness, is using Mpezeni’s sickness as a political weapon against Rupiah. Unless we reflect on who we truly are, I am afraid as a nation we are becoming gruesome by the day. And this sickness is shown not only by the behaviour of Hakainde Hichilema and Michael Sata but by all of us, including the media and bloggers as well!

  1. #1 better to MMD than with Sata…the man is a one man show and thats not the way you work..if Jesus himself needed disciples, who is Sata to go it alone and work alone?! The post has ill advised him on this one…they told him that he will make it alone…so lets see said the blind man.

    • And what about the comments HH made to the effect that he is UPND and UPND is him? That if he went then UPND would have gone under? Is that not being a selfish and ungrateful individual? Mazoka (MHSRIP) made UPND what it is and he never ever bragged about him being UPND and UPND being him. HH has totally trashed Mazoka’s vision. And now to crown it all, he starts using illness as a campign strategy, HH has lost it!!!

  2. Based on a 70% turnout, RB will get 43% (1572,000), Sata 32% (1,170,000), HH 21% (768,000) and the rest 4%. I leave it to you to tell who is rulling us the next five years, God giving him good health.

  3. if staying way was good for his securit i think there was no problem to that. the only problem i have noticed in Zambia is that we have leadership crisis and coming out of this might take quite some time. why should we be wishing each other to die or get sick? i now doubt the integrit of HH and Sata. why are they misleading us.

  4. HH WAS VERY CHILDISH FOR MAKING SILLY COMMENTS AIMED AT MR SATA BY SAYING SICK PEOPLE COULD NOT ATTEND CHILUBAS FUNERAL BUT SATA WAS THERE AT THE MULUNGUSHI CONFFRENCE CENTRE TO PAY HIS LAST RESPECT TO CHILUBA. THIS IS WHAT WE CALL CHEAP POLIITICKING OF THE WORST KIND .

  5. @Munshya … I completely disagree.. Your analysis and assumption is void of all reality and current political environment.. (1) You have not taken the hostility and lack restraint by the Cadres of the two parties who cannot be controlled by anyone when punches start .. not even by the police.. We’ve seen it over and over again.. most recent during the PF Lusaka Province Convention at Garden Motel.. SATA and PF were going to attract the cadres and there was going to be teargas and blood shed in Kabulonga (2) HH and MMD seem to be in a Pact of late with a common enemy, SATA/PF.. so are buddies.. MMD have no problem.. (3) Public viewing under the control of the Defence forces- Army is the best place in such situations and thats what SATA did.

  6. The writer of this article is very biased. I expected you to scruitnize all the leaders not just the opposition. Had you been equal in your analysis of the funeral events, you would have pointed out RB’s behaviour as well. This issue of a president keeping quiet when things are going bad is dangerous. The threats to Sata should have been rebuked immediately by our president but instead, he wanted to politicise it too. Condemn all our leader’s behaviour.

  7. Ye, HH handled himself better that the king cobra. Something different. listen to the following: Lusaka is a sprawling city that actually has little appeal for travelers. http://www.gettingaway.com/directory/africa/city.htm#LusakaWhat a shame that Lusaka has little to offer to travellers, yet we think we can have many tourists coming to Zed. why do most travellers except Chinese shun Lusaka and most of our cities? Is it because of the filt in our cities?

  8. WHEN MR CHILUBA WAS ALIVE HH WAS CALLING HIM A THIEF BUT AFTER HIS DEATH HH WAS SAYING GOOD ABOUT HIM.WHAT A HYPOCRACY

  9. Nice article. At least someone is able to analyse the sickness of our nation. In this article, only RB comes out unscathed.

  10. ”PF party had resolved not to attend Chiluba’s funeral. In contravention of this ban from Lubinda it was indeed quite embarrassing that Michael Sata went to Mulungushi Conference Center to view the body of Frederick Chiluba.”

And you want such inconsistent kaponyas to run GRZ sure?

    • What was embarrassing about going for body viewing? Don’t you think it is you embarrassing yourself with such a statement? How can you characterize such a gesture inconsistency? Sometimes it is prudent to stay quiet if you have nothing to contribute. What you just did is symptomatic of chakolwas.

  11. Hahaaaa….this article is soacking it in real hard. It reminds me of George Owel’s Animal Farm…a real satirical writing. It seems to rebuke the repagnant statement made by HH, but at the same time rubs the statement in, real hard….while sounding sympathetic and detested, but hitting the truth in an indirect way…..Ohhh….lovely writing, a master piece!

  12. The article is crisp clear, our politics is bad, truly speaking i did not expect HH to say what he said. I don’t aswell subscribe to Sata’s and RB’s ways of doing things…what a matrix of confused politicians and there sister profession journalism is so sick that it needs ethical ARVs. Personally i liked the way Elias, HH, Miyanda and Milupi handled themselves during the national mourning; whether it was politically simulated and stimulated i can’t dive into it because what ever they do is analysed politically. HH yesterday made a big miss!

  13. There is nothing wrong with HH making that statement, he is mature and ready for plot 1. So PF WATCH OUT before u embarrass yourselves.Let us all make a correct decisions now as we vote.

  14. @VJ Rigger.. There is a difference between going to the house of mourning for the funeral and paying your last respects at a Public viewing place like everyone else manned and controlled by a Company of Zmabia army, ZNS and Zmabia Airforce troops.. So everyone would be safe… Soldiers dont play.. The funeral house was manned by MMD thugs and inept police..

  15. The extent to which is Munshya wa fimo fimo goes to try to make a point that just isn’t there deeply vexes all normal minds. And it amazes me too how he just does not write anything negative about Banda, for example, one would have thought Banda’s admission at the burial of Chiluba the stinking thief that he wanted to prevent him from further “persecution” would be an ideal topic than how an insignificant politician conducts himself over the funeral of an opponent he once called “a monkey manning a corn field”. Munshay is indeed a f.o.o.l of the worst order.

  16. Amazing how one wanted Sata to attend a funeral he was clearly going to be harrased.

Munshya did we get assurances from government that Sata was going to be safe?

And even if they did would you want to risk your life? Deary me! Can’t believe Africans still think

Giving pachililo is symbolic of mourning. For a person who blabs like you do, they should know

Know times have changed. I honestly won’t go to withdraw my last penny (ngwee) to give pachililo because Munshya has kicked a dirty bucket. No way!

Africans will never stop amusing. No pan intended Munshya but your articles are pathetic

  17. Grow up Munshya was Munshya. You dont judge a conduct of a politician just by attending the funeral. Sata paid respect in his own accord but unfortunately he was not invited to the burial. HH was. Cant you guys write without involving Sata?

  18. Abena CB -title ‘How Ironic that I ridicule others while churning out biased commentary in an attempt to discredit Sata.’ by E. M. Wa Munshya. I think that if media is going to forget Chiluba’s wrongs because he has passed on, they might as well reward his efforts to enable press freedom by using it with some dignity. All our politicians, Sata and President Banda included, have many faults that are reflective of our young democracy and lacking leadership, which I’d imagine should provide any serious analyst with plenty to unbiasedly and constructively and fairly criticize them on. That instead we have this nonsense in an election year is disappointing. It is ironic however that this manifests itself in the form of criticizing leadership for the exact immaturity Munshya shows.

  19. I don’t think the analysis on the PF was fair. What lubinda banned was going to the funeral house as PF. Individuals were encouraged to attend in their own capacity, which is what Sata did. And if PF had gone to the funeral house and chaos reigned, everyone would have blamed them for not heeding the cadres’ and police’s warnings. And RB was quiet during this entire episode. It really was quite a shameful week for the 3 major partiesk for the 3 major parties

  20. Nothing personal Munshya but is saying certain people did not attend Chiluba’s funeral because they are sick smart to you?

I have said this here before and I will say it again, if we are going to claim to be developing, it should be all round. Wlliam Banda and his comments which you have eve writen about? Hello!
Yet you’ve found Sata guilty. Sometimes you wonder why Africans easily compromise their intellegience.

  21. This article is nosense. All this sickness issues was started with Michael Sata. Sata used to mock his opponents wuth sickness. He is simply getting the same dose as well. The wrioter should have talked about the previous utterance of Sata on this article as well.Sata he is still sick.

  22. I’ve always thought that HH was a man of intergrity but alas! He is one of the st.upi.d id.io.ts like the ones in MMD. What is wrong with getting sick. As if himself is a sick proof. We will see if at all he’s never going to get sick in his life.

  23. Being inconsistent even on such an issue of a funeral. We were told that the PF’s NMC sat an Sata was in attendance and they unanimously agreed not to attend the funeral. What happened during the week was very different from what was agreed. Countrymen there are more serious issues in Government that need to be attended to and such inconsistence will surely cost us as a country. We need sober minded leadership which does not easily change goal posts.

  24. why is sata always the topic.no one can talk without the name of sata in the mouth.HH please stop talking about you fellow opposition parties.no matter how bad they are to you dont say anything about them.all oppostion is fighting the ruling party.why should you fight on your own.i think its true to say that next we will hear that HH has defected to the ruling party like mumba nevers.

  25. This aricle is point on. When you don’t want to see something, you can not. It calls a spade a spade. There is no element to the topic and related to the subject matter that has been left hanging, it is as clear as glass.

  26. Its over guys, no amount of bickery will bring the infamous thief back. Let him rest in HELL, PERIOD!!!!

  27. Yes HH handled himself better than Sata and His ka PF Bemba party. Ian glad HH is giving Sata the right injection dose he deserves . Sara made fun of mazoka and levy sickness. Sata is sick period.we don’t want another funeral nxt year

  28. #25 splaka, just a correction, what PF and Lubinda banned was ATTENDING the funeral of FJT. Sata and PF messed up big time and showed how evil they are, just admit it. You remind me of the PF cadres denials over Sata’s homosexual interview when everyone heard it for themselves. Other evidence of his stance later emerged which he did not deny.

  29. I thought sata conducted himself more maturely that HH? He stayed away from the funeral house to avoid blood shed, he went for body viewing without caders. this waht we call maturity. HH was busy laughing at Sata for being sick,Is this maturity?

  30. Whatever we have known of politicians and other leaders sickness is told to us through the media. You guys in the media are the news transmitters of what others say on others. Surely when HH talked about people not attending FTJs funeral he also talked about many other issues of development but you journalist opted to quote only his reference to SATA. YOU ARE THE SICK

  31. I find HH to be childish stooping so low to vuvuzela about Sata’s absence at the burial site. We all know that mourning is not about who cries loudest but is felt deep down someone’s soul. People mourn so loudly at funerals, are they the ones who feel the most sorrow, oh NO. If one visits a funeral home or indeed attends body viewing it doesn’t necessarily mean he or she should attend all events. We all know that some people to funerals JUST TO SHOW OFF. Mourning is like faith, it’s personal because it touches your inner soul whether you go to church every Sat/Sun or not. So we should not be judgmental about Sata

  32. The country has not gone bananas. The politicians have gone bananas, we the sane people are watching the ‘zoo called the political scene’…………..! We the people are fine.

  33. Continued…..
The Zambian media is the crappiest, especially the public media to even publish such nonsense when they can report and inform and educate the public about pertinent issues. I even wonder what kind of caliber news editors have. This article should never have been printed, period.

  34. Im shocked to learn that the author wrote to say that HH stopped campigning as show of respect to Chiluba.
FACT: HH was in Luanshya campigning at ucz where he gave a BRIBE of K5million on Sunday.
Sinning on the Sabbath in other people’s church!

  35. It doesnt matter any more guys.FTJ is now history kwasila.HH plse Dont gain political mailege over SATA.It makes me wonder why you claim that you are an opposition party, just attacking fellow opposition parties sure?Is this what you call REAL CHANGE and THE NEW BLOOD?I would rather SATA or RB continue ruling.Know that as you lose these elections,Mutinta is warming up the seat for party take over as she becomes Pemba MP.HH has stood 2times plus this 2011 one.Just resign and forecast on ur biznesses

  36. It is very clear that in today’s Munshya article, he is seriously campaigning for HH. I hope HH has recognised a political advisor once in plot 1.

Number (2) comentor, I would avoid all those adjectives you have used against Sata if I were you as it is very obvious that you know nothing about the man you are describing. He is nothing near the picture you’ve painted of him.

  37. Sata was not invited, have you forgotten that there were cards at FTJ’S funeral did you want Sata to be gate crusher.Give Lubinda was given an invitation card as a member of parliament not as PF.I see how much you fear, dream and think about Sata, cant a day pass without commenting ill about Sata?Is this the reconciliation you are preaching by instructing you unethical journalists what to write.Obviously all zambians that are able to read between the lines know who is behind all these articles,TV documentaries to discredit Sata and magazines and newspapers.

  38. #4,

this is exactly the point of the author. It is NOT about HH or what would be good for him, but it is about Zambia! We all are sick, and need healing.

  39. Zambians Please Vote Wisely.

MP Masebo outlines hatred in her resignation letter

The resignation letter written by Chongwe MP Sylvia Masebo to MMD national secretary Richard Kachingwe. Masebo was suspended by the MMD two weeks ago.
“I write to inform you that I have decided to resign from the MMD with effect from 30th June 2011.
Since the death of president Mwanawasa in 2008, there have been evil schemes and fabrications, which have been printed in the government-controlled Times of Zambia, Zambia Daily Mail including ZNBC and the Internet.
All these schemes have been done with the full knowledge and direction of President Rupiah Banda.

  40. Vote Wisely There was a sustained abuse of the state machinery to try and show that Mr Magande and myself may have abused our offices as ministers hence the Zambian Airways saga and the importation of the 150 hearses. The stories were meant to prove that the late president Mwanawasa was fighting corruption selectively.
These stories from purportedly anonymous authors were posted on the internet just to be picked up by the state media in a very unprofessional manner. I have in the last three years kept quiet to all this with the hope that one day justice would prevail.
The defamatory stories against innocent citizens, political leaders, Church leaders particularly from the Catholic Church, civil society leaders, among others, by President Banda through Chanda Chimba’s TV programme

  41. MMD is now gone – with Chiluba vote wisely Since 2008, President Banda has shown corrosive hatred towards me simply because I supported Mr Magande.
In May 2011 at the MMD national convention in Kabwe, I decided to contest the position of women affairs chairperson.
I was shocked and disappointed that a President of a perceived democratic party could call me requesting that I should not contest any party position but wait to get a party nomination by the party president without any valid reason.
Obviously, it was clear to me that it was in bad faith since he had never spoken to me since 2008 and was only trying to block me from participating because of the hatred he had for me.
I decided to defy his wish because I knew it was in bad faith. And thanks to all the genuine MMD members who vo

  42. I think this is a fairly balanced analysis although something could be said about how RB/MMD handled the funeral as well! In my view Sata is not sincere about evacuations of sick/ill VIPs to SA! Do we have to evacuate people for every ailment? Dont the local Doctors have to recommend that a patient be refered to another clinic/hospital? Besides who presided over the MOH when they brought in reforms that fustrated so many of our doctors to look for greener pastures, ironically at Morningside and Garden park clinics? Sata’s name might appear somewhere! Just a few months ago Sata was mocking Geogre Kunda over his illness and because Laeders like him broke tradition to talk about these things, they should expect us to tallk about their health as well.

  43. The question of HH being young dos not arise. It is better to have him as presdo than have sun1 with negative experience of beating pipo, stealing, insulting, divorcing, sick and mad and confused. The greatest chalenge we are facing as a nation is not lack of resources or education but we think with toes and as a result of this, we are NOT patriotic to our nation. The writings are clear on the wall that Sata is a mental patient and that his heart disease is incurable yet we even think of voting for him. This is a man whose death is predictable. As a nation, we do not care how much it will cost to bury him and having a presidential by election.Worse stil, in PF at present, no one can stand up and advise him to step down because PF is Sata and Sata is PF.

  44. HH is not only naive but dangerous to our society. The big question is how was he feeling when Mazoka was ill and paid for his evacuation. I am too sure the underfive was praying for his death. Its really good that the pact fail. Long live Sata because he is the voice of the voiceless!

  45. HH needs to take off his diapers and seek help! Sickness of the head is worse off than what Sata allegedly suffered from.

  46. BECOMING ZAMBIAN PRESIDENT IS NOT JUST BEING FIT AT LOOKING AFTER CATTLES OR BEING YOUNG LIKE COSMO, BUT BEING POLITICALLY INTELLIGENT…..WHICH HH MISSES.

  47. The article is indeed shallow and parochial devoid of a correct analysis of the situation intended to mislead the gullible! A look at some writers above simply shows that a large percentage of Zambians have poor memories even of most recent events and statements. Surely, Munshya, did you, that is if you think clearly, expect Sata to go to the funeral house given the threats by one William Banda and Co and the silence by govt leaders to assure his safety.
No wonder our country is in such a state!

  48. We all know what Lubinda did or didnt say about the funeral….polls in after the burial RB 50%, HH 30% , Sata 20%; Looks like FTJ drilled even in death…forecast it is expected HH will eat into Satas 20 given the trend and tide coming in to give him 32% leaving Sata trailing on account of the rumours on health, his political blunder to sneak into UTH and his conduct prior and after the demise of the Second Presido and memories are fresh on how Maureen chased him after he pretended to mourn the late LPM….

  49. Mushya, whatever you call yourself. This article is taken out of context. At no time did HH mention Sata`s name. Because you used deductive logic, you are in short telling us that Sata is sick. I wonder if you are a journalist because your articles are always not balanced. If you have studied a bit of journalism, you should politely go and claim a refund because you do not exhibit any traces of journalistic work in your writing. I said this and i will say it again, nothing personal, HH gave us a timely advise and we should yield. Let us not pretend some opposition leaders are sick and therefore do not deserve to be in office. KK had nothing against Mwanawasa. He warned us about Mwanawasa`s health and want happened, we drove him to kill himself by voting for him. Sick people not your time!

  50. maybe HH did not just know how t handle the whole Chiluba Death, it would appear that he played wait and see, and it paid out as being ‘mature behaviour’, he is underfive as far as i am concerned.

in Ten years, he will have mustered enough political wit and courage to fit into the likes of Sata’s shoes.

  51. Lusaka Times = Times of Zambia + RB Inc. I doubt this website so much, they are too biased towards Government. Are you agents of the MMD or RB. You have to be impartial all the time in your reporting because you need to realise that changes in Govt comes with repacations in the event that you are found wanting. Am not taking sides but my observation to your reports is that you are not impartial.

  52. I am not sure what Munshya is trying to say in his article about Sata and HH.
One intriging point is where Munshya says that Sata announced that he had not appeared in public during Chiluba’s funeral because he had gone on a spiritual retreat to intercede for Chiluba’s soul”

Well, Sata is a Christian and in particular a Catholic who from time to time needs to go in ‘Retreat’, a time of self recollection. What is done there is no body’s business unless like in this case one shares about it. If he prayed for a dead man’s soul, which is a duty for every Catholic who believe in this practice, so be it. That is the way Sata chose to mourn his friend.

  53. Until the nation and all politiacal parties go beyond party afflilation during National activities, we shall have continue having circus at every event, death of National figures included.

Let us urge our new Mps to look into this right from the start. So let the people on the grass root level put those lobbying to be MPs to this task.

Zambeziland, motherland, you can live up to this.

  54. Dear Mr.Munshya, Whats wrong with informing family members that one among them is not feeling well? HH is a concerned Zambian and it goes to show how he cares. He has done nothing wrong at all.

  55. Head Knowledge has always engaged in analysis like the one presented here, where is the space for revalation that grants spiritual knowledge coming from GOD in this Christain Nation?

  56. I have vowed not to insult any party president whether i wish that person loses elections or not. We can differ politically which is ok, but if you want me to join your side, you need not to use crude language rather sell your party vision boldly and respectfully. Many bloggers here just vents their anger without explaining there party programs. LT help bring topics such as WHICH PRESIDENTIAL CANDIDATE HAS A HEART FOR LOCAL INVESTORS AND WHAT DOES HIS OR HER PARTY MANIFESTO SAY. 2. WHAT ARE THEY SAYING ABOUT THE ESTABLISHMENT OF A NEW CONSTITUTION WHEN VOTED INTO POWER. etc This is what we want to hear from politicians NOT who is sick proof. viva one Zambia

  57. Any one help me plz?is there any online publication were i can get nice, well articulated, balanced articles with proper contributions unlike what is happenning on ZWD and LT?Help im so tired of unproductive and blind blogging

  58. wen Sata coughs, Zambia is shaken… concentrate on yo political campaigns, we all kno that state funerals have become a campaign tool. viva pf.

  59. Munshya u forgot to say UPND was busy campaigning in Luanshya on Saturday and Sunday HH was in Luanshya busy cmpagning a day before Chiluba’s burial. The problem of HH is he thinks youth in him should make him more suitable irrespective of no experience and leading UPND a once formidable [party to be a Tongatribal party. I’m Not Tonga, I was in the inner circle in UPND when Anderson Kambela Maoka was it’s leader. Now, UPND reduced into a shell. HH is no match to the PF or MMD and he has chosen attack Pf instead of MMD.

  60. Those of us who dont wnat to be associated with losers and lack of focus we cant vote for PF.

I commend PF cadres for their strength in character, they have reached a point where changing goal posts no longer matters to them. They have learnt and built stamina for handling electoral losses. They have learnt how to swing like reeds when wind changes direction.
They have learnt to be content with loss and not knowing where they are going. Such courage is rear because it cannot duel with those who love logic because each time they try to gain the courage of PF they ‘fail’. I have put fail in quotes and when used in this manner it means ‘conciously avoiding’.

  61. Elias you have seriously lost activity in the functional capabilities of your brain cells! such nonsense you write above is not to be expected from someone of your calibre! U unless of course we have all along been misled about your intellectual abilities? shame on you and your article

  62. The writer is trying hard to come up with a topic and make sense of it. HH never insulted anyone. We need to think of the health of people we bring in power before another 4.6 billion k is sourced for the 3rd presido funeral in space of 5yrs.
We are not God to know who is going first but we can use our naked eyes for clues and make informed intelligent decisions with our vote. It’s sad that a lot of bloggers who I believe to be future leaders keep on asking us to vote for old old leaders who had there good years. We need leaders of our generation. These guys pa zed will not say it over for me let me leave for the camerons or obamas of Zambia.let us try to move with time you people.

  63. The funeral of Chiluba was the worst of its kind. Many people have claimed to be very close to Chiluba, but in fact not. The intentions of these people was not to mourn but take advantage and benefit from Chiluba’s death. In every event there are some people who benefits and others who loses. While the Chiluba’s family has lost, some people have benefited. Why should people who were not close to Chiluba when he was alive become so close to him in death? What are their interests for doing this? This is the worst prentence and mockery of the dead person. If Zambians take this kind of doing things as ‘the’ Way of showing respect to the dead, then I doubt very much the sincerity of the so called Zambian culture. Is this the confirmation of the Zambian culture of Chekelako, Bushe Ndelyamo?

  64. Munsha Wamunyelo wateva I thot walikwata amano kanshi tawakwata.
The funeral was by invitatn & goin 2the funeral hse is dffrnt 4rm body viewn at Mulungushi, u even knw the threats MMD was telln SATA if he visits the funeral.
Mwaiche iwe tautonta ukunya kanshi . . .
    The article is rubbish.

  65. Ka HH ni ka tribalist who deosn’t think properly. He came into politcs through trbalism when Mazoka died.Tongas said only a Tonga can lead UPND and this is what happened. Therefore UPND is a trible party full of Under fives and un der twos from the same province.we know u and HH means Haikaivotela Heka.soon he’ll be under two malukula.Under five sold our companies to enrich himself, hence nowdays donating bribing too much .let him bring the money he stole.we’ll get it but ni dunchi Kubepa ba Under two.Tongalism In UPND should stop coz UPND will never rule zed.

  66. Just who said that retreats are only a preserve for popes. Ba Munshya fit and proper analysis captures a bigger picture, yours is off line. Any person from any background may choose to go on retreat either for self reflection, submitting to God or dedicate one’s family, friends, or the community . On Sata’s absence at the burial site, here be mindful that burial was by invitation. Did you ever ask your self of what PF’s presence at the funeral house could have bred especially that there were strong threats by the MMD thru William Banda and his provincial secretary? Be objective in your infant analysis, taking personal swipes at people you seem not agree with is lunacy. That you have not known Sata to be prayer is an insult to your belief and principles.

  67. Munshya or whatever you call yourself. You should respect elders especially those who speak on behalf of poor people & other voiceless in society.Sata has opened up most politicians minds on how to campaign on real issues & has made Zambian politics interesting. You should know that Power belongs to the people.

  68. There so many funerals in Zambia to pick from. Ka funeral ka FTJ ako ba MMD balemekesha na kapita unless Dora dies soön MMD Have no further aces up their sleeve

  69. SATA IS THE BEST CANDIDATE OF THEM ALL…..HE DIDNT GO TO THE FUNERAL, THEY ARE TALKING, IF HE HAD GONE, THEY COULD HAVE SAID HE IS POLITICISING THE FUNERAL AND THAT COULD HAVE RESULTED IN VIOLENCE AND MAYBE DANGEROUS TO HIS HEALTH…..SATA YOU DID WELL NOT TO ATTEND…………WE ARE VOTING FOR YOU…IFYO TWAKUTEMENWA YEWE….PFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFF FOR G…DONCHI KUBEBA

  70. If PF is adopting Sata as its presidential candidate, then they are deliberately killing him, give the Old Man time to rest, please don’t pile alot of pressure on him.

  71. Munshya wa,,,kaya whatever they call u,HH did not mention any name whatsover n pliz dont put words in his mouth,,all is said was that some sick people could not attend the funerial as it was a tedious long one,,actually my uncle who was sick by that time did not attend despite being invited. Have seen most of this wa munshyas articles n they r a resemblance to most articles that r found in PF Magazine commonly known as the post.pliz leave HH alone after o Sata is the one who coined this type of disease of politics..no wonder in PF there r a lot of contradiction. lubinda attended the funeral n sata attended the body view despite them announcing tht thy wont attend..hee people lets get serious n vote wisely, wisely means MMD.

  72. I totally agree with all Those who noted that HH did not mention any names and even you learned lawyers can defend him in the courts of law.Why is that when Sata vomits every takes enjoys his vomit, yet when the so called under 5’s speaks the truth ,there is an uproar to the extent of insulting the innocent cool Tongas .The bottom line is, age is against Sata and his heart has already suffered a heart attack and the next one might be worse. If i were Sata i would push one Given Lubinda to challenge HH.

  73. Bafikala zoona, now if you do not donate anything to the funeral then you are not mourning? This is total bullshit. I like HH but I think we just need to give credit were it belongs and let us not use funerals for political mileage. Anyway i blame the author for trying to mislead the masses!

  74. the analysis on the period of mourning FTJ shows that zambia is in leadership vacuum, this is what i would have done if i was RB.1)i will call sata and arrange for security to him ,and with most of his senior party members.2)i will issue a decree stating NO party attire during the period of mourning as ftj was a president for all ,whether mmd,pf,catholics etc,3)organise a meeting for all political leaders and advise each other to stop campaigning or issuing political news.this what lpm did when sata and ftj got sick.healing the wounds, peace and stability.love and action.thats what real leadership entails us to do.think what u can do for zambia and not what zed can do for u.GOD SAVES PLEASE.

  75. The article cracked me to read that the satan went 4 a spiritual retreat to intercede 4 Dr Chiluba’s soul. Like Zed politics becoz the opposition parties are very gud jokers. never serious with winning an election. VIVA RB

  76. Where does this Munshya wa Munshya hail from. Hes lost and campaigning for Hichilema. I have told you before that your ka newspaper will just lose popularity. Munshya thats why, as per your name, you were left behind cos you are very slow in moving with the wind, “lobe” , this is very free advice.

  77. Munshya -wa fimo fimo, there is a saying, ” You could Educate someone, but you can never take the woods out of them!!” This aptly applies to you!

Yes tradition says you should mourn, thus doesn’t say YOU SHUD attend the funeral house. You even lack knowledge of your own traditions!!

It is rather low of you to insinuate that those betting on Sata maybe shortsighted or stupid by NOT TAKING ACCOUNT OF HIS AGE & POSSIBLE AILMENTS that go with reaching such an age. In medicine, NATURAL SELECTION is a reality, people who live beyond the populations average age of longevity, have self selected in their adaptability to survive, good example is KK !! So MCS is very fit for his age & ailments going with it!!

Another Plus 4, MCS is he’s consistent for the plight of the poor!!

  78. LT “s’t.u,pi,d” is NOT an Insult, rather a description of mind, WHICH INDEED YOU ARE, & POSSIBLY MUCH WORSE!!!!

  79. Munshya is Sata’s spin-doctor trained to twist stories in favour of his master. We all know that mocking the sick is a culture developed by Michael Sata. Sata thrived on a belief that FTJ had no relatives to lean on in times of need. After his death, we all learnt that FTJ had a large family & 100% supporters from Luapula & many admirers country-wide. Imfwa ilalondolola abene ba muyashi. Sata’s sickness is real. When he dies, Dr. Kaseba will come to know her true in-laws. When Sata dies his relatives will not emerge from Mpika, but the Makyusas will troupe out from Tanzania. Munshya need not dwell on HH’s comments because Sata is chief mocker of the sick who last mocked including Chief Mpezeni. Sata has now entered into state of hallucinations – a sign of his impending death.

  80. RB is a very good leader. He has been exposed his integrity through and through. Thanks to MMD

  81. NO ONE KNOWS WHEN THEY WILL BE SICK OR DIE. TELL HH TO BE CAREFUL WITH HIS WORDS. WE HAVE BURIED MANY WHO USED HH’S WORDS.

  82. I think its time for PF to face the reality. though the truth may pain. Hon. Micheal Chilufya SATA is currently not well, he has lost the vitality and the shapness that was synonmous with the cobra. He seem not to have the political vernon of the 2001. LETS FACE IT BA PF,There is need to work out a transission of power to young ones in the party. This issue of having only one dependable person was likely to work at odds with PF, shub Micheal fail to be strong enough by election date. God bless ZAMBIA!

  83. To start with, me myself and my houshold we are not sick so this article excludes us. Zambia needs God more than change of Govt period.

  84. There is no such a thing as ” a human right to be sick” or ” a human right to die”. We do not make a claim to both.

  85. NO MATTER WHAT YOU CAN SAY, HH IS AND CAN NEVER BE A FACTOR IN THIS YERAS ELECTIONS. THE RACE IS BETWEEN RB AND SATA. BOTH ARE VERY OLD AND SICK-BUT NOT TOO SICK TO RUN THE COUNTRY. WAIT AND SEE.

  86. Charles @102, Its not good to just get blown by the wind, without knowing where you are going. Its important to be your own driver, make decisions for yourself. No one should make decisions for you unless you are a stooge or something. Voting is all about choosing those you feel are capable of delivering, not becouse your friend has voted for that person. If Munshya doesnt grt moved by the wind, he is like me.Iam my own driver! Be one too bro.

  87. Sata together with his friend Mmembe exposed Mpezeni’s illness to gain political mileage. Little did the man know that his scheme will be exposed. He has taken advantage of one’s sickness. Evil intentions will never prosper. Why parade a paramount chief ill in bed? All of us from eastern should be annoyed with that Satan. Shame on the cobra!!!!

  88. #113, why then do you call upnd spoilers? Is it not because of what has transpired between the day the pact died and now? Clinton chose to meet presidents of those parties that mater in the coming election and she met three, 25 minutes with Sata, 30 minutes with RB and 1.5hrs with HH.

  89. Dounchi Kufyona #61, your contributions always lack sustance coz your hate is seen in them.
HH is a rancher yes and to me that means he understands the agriculture sector better than those who doesnot own even a small farm. I have always read your blogs, they are full of hate towards HH who is very innocent. Sometimes you only appreciate others if you get close to them. Allow me to invite you to meet this man and listen to him face to face, I have met Sata before and I had the same perception like you untill I met HH. By the way I was PF like you. Our economy is in syambols and those that are experts in economics are better suited to sort out our problems.

  90. Rubbish, Sata is sick and thats it. Isnt he the one who call Veep ati” ka Red Lips Kunda?

So Sata has the right to attack others and no one should say anything about him? As long as he offers himself for public office, we shall scruitnise him.Mind you, he would not be president for bembas only, but for the whole nation.

  91. I pray that those die-hard bloggers and a host of unrully kaponyas who support Sata should start preparing their mental-state to the realities that Sata is politically dead and nerely awaiting an obvious impending physical death. This is because the Chiluba factor will deny him votes that strengthened PF in Luapula during the past elections. PF supporters must switch their hobbies to English football fixtures to avoid mental stresses that might arise from political matters that will NEVER earn their families a peice of bread. Sata will retire from polities with savings to serve his own close family alone.

  92. Ba Sata nabalwala ingulu. Luapula has rejected him outright. He now goes to small radio stations to lament on irrelevant issues like iCHIPUBA that has escaped from Chainama Hospital. PF is now a laughing stock

  93. PF has become a replica of UPP. KK had to ban a circular which stated that all organisations should be headed by bembas up to third in the rank. Other would start from fourth position in the rank. We are heading there. Thats what brought about one party state, ask KK. bEMBAS HAVE ALWAYS WANTED TO EXALT THEMSELVES over others, selfish indeed.

  94. We should just advocate for a federal state since bembas cant work with others, they feel more important. They have no sense of shame whatsoever! How do you compare HH to a dimwit Sata? NOSENSE. State house should never be for grade fives ever again, Chiluba was the kast uneducated president of this country.

  95. Southerners gave late FTJ a bemba 100% in 1991. Some provinces did not. Northern, Luapula and CB rejected Mazoka and now HH. Who is tribal here? Its us Bembas, we want others to acept our when we reject theirs inspite of having a brilliant candidate like HH. As long as us Bembas dont come to terms that others are also important, we shall continue suffering as a nation. Fellow Bembas please stop this tribalism nonsense, its killing our nation.

  96. Ba Muzo # 111, you are right. Continue educating these people who dont understand anything let alone insults.

  97. There is no such thing as “human right to be sick or to die”, thats why they will arrest you if you try to commit suicide. Its actually a human right to good health.

  98. I respect Mushya’s article and agree with most of bhis observations. As much as i sympathise with HH, i very much disagree with his behaviour of mocking PF leader, if SATA is sick so what? Let HH clarify that statement before his enemies gain political mileage.Even Mr Sata’s pictures about Mpenzeni’s sickness was a shame.Mushya nailed it so well.Keep it up.Zambia is sick with a disgusting behaviour

  99. Thanks  ba #120 I like the explanation hope the guys above will think with there heads  it’s shocking how some one can refer to death as human right when we all have rights to good health and life . I suggest people talk of things they have an idea of .

  100. I SIMPLY LIKE THIS: Siavonga is a wonderful place to take in the view of the lake but, be sure to view it from a distance as the crocodiles own the lake and do in about 30 people every year and seem to like tourists equally as well as locals.
