Electoral Commission of Zambia (ECZ) chairperson Justice Irene Mambilima has maintained that the commission will not extend the voter verification exercise which came to an end June 12.

This follows calls by political stakeholders for an extension to allow more registered voters to have their details verified before the final register is compiled.

Speaking in Lusaka today during the ECZ/political parties’ liaison Committee meeting, Justice Mambilima said the commission has little time left before the forthcoming tripartite elections and that extending the verification exercise will have a negative impact on the commission’s preparatory works.

Justice Mambilima says the commission remains committed to ensuring that the country holds transparent, free and fair elections.

She says the ECZ has made headway in preparing for the coming general election and that all stakeholders will be kept updated on the progress regarding the elections.

Justice Mambilima has however said that in response to the concerns raised by stakeholders; the ECZ printed out hard copies of names of people, who registered as voters for every constituency and in all polling stations to ensure that no one is left out in the final register before certification which is expected by July, 31, 2011.

  1. Three quarters of the people who haven’t verified their particulars are from the copperbelt and all are PF not only cadres but even distinguished members.
It’s a party with members of the lowest IQ. If you get on a minibus in CB, you can cry .the other day i was left in stiches, one hoodlum after failing to raise a bus fair just yelled “awe ba sata bese bateke ulupiya luleke ukushupa mwe!” when asked how? Answer, “ha, muletwishika bakala purinta, ni donchi kubeba”. When asked further about inflation ati “inflation ifinshi, fyaba rupiah ifyo kuli ba sata ifyo fi inflation mulelanda takwakabe”. Kule lyapo fye

  2. What short time do you have remaining when no one knows the elections date! Bootlicker can you please announce the date for the tripite elections now!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  3. Iwe mambilima, this time we dont want masebela, No regging and tell your workmates that things have changed. Muzamenyewa mukapusa

  4. LOOOOOL !!!!! You People, PLEASE!!!! That is how she is. I know her. She looks angry here but it is simply a camera effect. Some people are not just photogenic…that is how she looks when she wants to look serious. She is actually a good person at heart but she is also a serious professional. Imwe bantu ! Yaba!!

  5. This year all parties will have copies of registered voters. If you lose there is nothing like rigging. So let us see what the bad losers will say this time! Muzanamizila che ba President ati ni ndoshi – why sa loser ma-elections! Please this time accept the results, because you will have the numbers of voters down to every polling station. Tiyeni – fair game! Ya gemuka manje!

  6. SHAME ON JUSTICE ………………..BETTER BE OPEN THAN PRETENDING THAT YOU ARE GOING TO HAVE FAIR  ELECTIONS…..NO RIGGING KA THIS TIME ITS GOING TO BE LIKE MUMBARAK……

  7. On this I support the ECZ as the exercise was available on cell phone text. No need to go to the verification centre

  8. Hit the nail on the nail people, she is very UGLY
. I am sick and tired of seing make-up less women in the office like that, who dont do themselves a service by looking as though they are going through a bereavement.

Also her position should have a term, you can not be having the same person in the same possition for 10 years plus. In the Interest of transparency, fairness, Intergrity and Impartialness, her term should be no more than 5 years. If she is corrupt how do you erradicate that? This is Insanity. I hope she is on as much money as £60 000 a year, because anything less I would refuse that job even at knife point.

    Thanks

  9. Jan, Feb, Mar, Apr, May, June……..July and no election date for 2011 elctions…nipa Zambia sure. The real third world country.

  10. She feels under pressure from the Hawks in bwinjimfumu road to extend. It is against her concious as it would be a costly publicity stunt without any benefit. She has decided to do the right thing and stick to her guns but is not sure how the reaction will be…..thus, the sad face.

  11. How can she say its too late to continue the verification exercise when the election date is not yet fixed? I smell a rat here as usual….it looks like some people like her have been told by our president R&B when the election takes place, while the rest of us are in the dark…..thats why we need a new constitution to clear simple things like this which in the end can and do turn a well intended election into a mockery of democracy.

  12. By not announcing the election date, MMD is hoping to throw people off. The date should be announced so that people can plan their schedules, travel etc to accommodate voting.

  13. Good evening

The ECZ should also consider ways to enable Zambian citizens in diaspora to register and cast their votes from abroad. This can be done either through the internet or even by the embassies, who may appoint an officer in charge of collecting votes from diasporans and forwarding them to the ECZ.

They may be absent from the political scene on the ground but their attachment and commitment is undeniable. As far as I can recall, UK, Canadian and American citizens are able to cast their votes away from home.

  14. @1, which normal person wouldn’t be angry when they have to deal with dimwits like pf? work is supposed to be enjoyable but dealing with pf is a nightmare for any sane person. just look at what #3 has said about a pf cadre, same as his leader. can you enjoy working with such people? this must be a mad man’s job, but she has to do it for mother zambia, i hope that we pay her well, very well to compensate her family in case she ends up in a nut house because of being made to work with pf.

  15. on a serious note, her look gives me the confidence that she will ably deal with known dimwits. even mr sata would have to think twice before opening his many mouths which give him the flip flop capability.

  16. Justice for What? Give us the date for elections. Win or loose the ball is in your court, Madam Justice. You are calling the shots for now, but whatever happens as a result of your incompetence as ECZ will haunt You For the rest of Your Life!

  17. How come we did not have such problems during the Kaunda era? Is it the computers or the people in office trying to screw up voters that only their perceived supporters have access to voting?

  18. MUSHOTA always looks for a fight and irritates people in the process. Once she was advised to jump in a lake of acid if she was bitter. She has issue and only she knows these issues. The quicker she gets help the better. It kills her inside so much that she feels better when she lets out her anger at LT bloggers which is rather misdirected. She’s erratic, inconsistent, paranoid, insecure and lonely. She makes up stories about being in a relationship, going on holidays and having a comfy life. All that is a hoax

  19. Since mmd you claim to be popular and almost all our tradition leaders have endorsed you this is the right time to announce the date for elections. The oppositions are not prepared, its when they are going for a convertion, come on mighty party hit them.Because from the convertion the COBRA will remove its SKIN and will be more VENOM take my advise.

  21. Its foolishness at its best. Surely we all know that elections will be held before October, and RB is still quite about the actual date! Dictators’ behaviour is the same world over. They literally own the people and the sundry! Maweeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee. Vote for change, vote bo SATA.
