Share

MMD parliamentary candidate for Nangoma Constituency in Central Province Professor Luke Kanyomeka has died.

MMD Central Province vice-chairman George Kangwa said Prof Kanyomeka died in Namibia in the early hours of yesterday after a short illness.

Mr Kangwa said Prof Kanyomeka was preparing to come back home from Namibia, where he has been working.

He was expected to kick off his campaign.

“He got sick two days ago, and was yesterday (Thursday) rushed to hospital. Later, I was informed that his condition had become worse and to my surprise, I received a message around 05:00 hours today (Friday) that he had died in the early hours. He was just winding up in Namibia so that we can start the campaigns together,” he said.

Mr Kangwa described the death of Prof Kanyomeka as shocking and disturbing.

He said funeral arrangements will be announced after consultations with the family.

And the MMD has picked Daniel Mwila Mutimushi, a Mufulira-based engineer, to contest the Kantanshi parliamentary seat and Chilekwa Munkonge for Kasama Central, bringing the total number of candidates to 150.

Adoptions for the two seats were deferred on Tuesday, when 148 candidates were adopted.

  1. You knew the man was sick why did you even adopt him? He died after a long illness not short illness don’t tell us lies the man has been sick for some time.

  2. This is the problem picking people who not even in Zambian or dont stay in there areas of responsibility, they even fail to perform accondingly.

  3. Shouldn’t health matter when picking any candidate? Sadly; very few would decline being picked on grounds of ill health

  4. MHSRIP. Anyway PF campaigns will continue. PF is resolute about forming government this year. Sorry MMD. We cannot give you a pass because someone died.

  5. My friend you are gone without achieving your aspirations. For a long time you wanted to serve the people of Nangoma but unfortunately that chance never came. You were close to it. We shall miss you greatly.
You came from far but we remember the days of NRDC, UNZA etc. We pray for comfort on your family

  6. Death is unfair, it takes intelligent people and leaves behind useless ones such as Mulongoti, Mpombo, Mangani, Masebo and ofcourse bashi chilufya himself. Professor MYSRIP.

  7. The rate at which black African people, particularly in Sub-Saharan Africa, have been harvested off the face of the earth in past three decades is extremely alarming. I think African people do not or are not willing to know their true enemy. Surely there must be someone amongst the African people but not of their kind benefiting from the cold hand of death that has mercilessly and indiscriminately ravaged the black community.
Loosing any soul is very painful but it is even more painful if we loose such a soul as the Late Prof. Kanyemoka. Imagine the immense knowledge hermorrhage our society suffers when such a soul embarks on a journey of no returning while our enemy goes about dining and wining. RIP Prof.

    • Mr Willie Lynch you are the same people who like to accuse others of being a witch or satanist. How can you say there is someone benefiting from the cold hand of death. And you even use such insensitive language ati Harvesting. So you think there is one man who has been bewitching all the millions of people who have been dieing the last 30 years. Have you ever heard of the words HIV or AIDS?

  8. Willie your British Literature class was worth it. These are the real fruits of attending classes and not skip. You are a fool tho.

  9. Condolences. At this rate, we gona have at least 100 bye elections before 2016…expensive and unnecessary. I suggest that ALL SELECTED M CANDIDATES undergo comprehensive medical exams by a top notch medical institute and only those who are 100% medically and mentally fit are allowed to stand…All PLOT 1 suspects and pretenders should be flown to South Africa for testing and remain there for good if found unfit so that we dont keep flying them in and out at tax payers expense!

  10. Dearth is uncertain and it could happen to even the so called 100% fit persons. Therefore people should desist from commenting negatively on someone who has passed.M.H.S.R.I.P. but the Professor’s aspirations shall definately be carried on by us live on..

    • There is nothing negative about requiring those who seek to lead us to be fit to do so! Nobody is forcing them to be our leaders. Just compare our bye election statistics to other countries. Let those of us who are unfit stand aside…we are not short of people.

  11. All candidates from any party must undergo througher medicall check up before being adopted. UPND and PF must learn something from this tragedy. May his soul rest in peace.

  12. The choice of Chilekwa Munkonge to stand in Kasama Central has very interesting strategic undertones. Chilekwa is the son of Chief Munkonge, in whose chiefdom is Kasama Central. So it will be interesting how the electorate will react, especially given that the votes were split 50-50 in Kasama urban during the last parliamentary by-election and it was Munkonge’s village votes which tipped the balance in favour of the PF (GBM). Now with Chilekwa standing, let’s wait and see …

  13. Kalos2121@6; there you go again off tune. Look @ the comments by all the bloggers on this particular issue. You are the only one having issue with the dead. Shame on you! You seem to be the WILLIAM BANDA of the PF though you level of contribution is always backward and immature. Spokeswoman @ 17 you are off topic! Couldn’t you find a better story to make your analysis on? Your comment does not seem to relate to the story!

  14. Zambians must be very careful indeed on whom they let their parties adopt and elect. For example, George Kunda is sick and clearly marked for death, why has he been adopted? Sata is a heart patient, if he is elected and he dies in office, can we afford another state funeral? Well, be warned, this is how the USSR curved out its demise when between 10 November 1982 and 10 March 1985, presidents Leonid Brezhnev, Yuri Andropov and Konstantin Chernenko all died in office. This, more than Linyungandambo or anything else, poses the gravest danger to the disintegration of Zambia. Quit this dance with people clearly marked for death, they are a danger to national security and sovereignty if dying in office.

  15. Regarding the adoption of chilekwa munkonge for the kasama seat. Iam from kasama and let me tell you. The munkonge family is one but very large. You know chiefs used to marry two to four wives and whoever succeded was a relation. Chilekwa is the last bourne in Prof munkonges line. GBM was paying school fees for chilekwa when he was at kenneth kaunda secondary school but upon completion he moved to Lusaka. This boy is like GBM s son coz he brought him up though they are cousins in cizungu. In the past we used to say mwana ba tata mukalamba or mwaice and not cousin. The boy can’t match with GBM in kasama and a few know him. Just keep the money RB will give you chilekwa esp you are a loafer.

  16. # 19, Born with no identity, What are you talking about? Show me were I have an issue with the dead! Are you reading what everyone is reading? What are you on? What issue do you see in my statement that have anything to do with the late Prof? I know it is weekend, but please man, drink moderately. Over drinking is impairing your thought process.

  17. Number 11 you are the same people who like to accuse others of being a witch or satanist. How can you say there is someone benefiting from the cold hand of death. • #21 Kaulun’gombe. if only you allowed yourself to think out of the box for a while, may be you will begin to understand what I exactly meant in my earlier posting. You will notice that I never mentioned anything to do with bewitching or witchcraft. To perceive reality around you and understand the real message behind any written word is to be wise.

  18. Aids or not death stil comes in different colours, forms & shape.its very unfortunate that our learned professor is gone.M.H.S.R.I.P.

  19. What can Chilekwa Munkonge do for Kasama Central. The chap can not win the election. He has never been to Kasama apart fro asking for money from his brother GBM.This young man is noe finished. We call him Chilekwa wa Futi after that shoting of some woman in Kabwata.

  21. Its true death comes when least expected. But every job has minimum requirement. I totally agree with bloggers suggesting 100percent fitness for candidates seeking 2 be MPs /presidents. I hope MMD adopts a female candidate now.

  22. Can you please discribe is 100% fitness for me? As far as i am concerned no one is fit in relation to death. The more you think that you are imortal, the more you discriminate people who can contribute to the nation – eg bisabled( diferently abled). Let us embrace everyone coz you will be next also. Everyone’s effort is required coz we only live on God’s watch and not our own. Prof, RIP.

  23. I remember you from Chompi days. Sad that you have to go so early. But we do not know God’s timing. Pray for God’s comfort on your family.
