President Rupiah Banda says MMD has deliberately adopted young candidates so that the young generation begins to prepare to take over the leadership of the nation.

Mr. Banda says there is need to groom the youths for leadership roles in the country.

The President said this when he introduced some MMD candidates to the people during the flagging off of the tarring of the KASAMA-MPOROKOSO road on today.

He has urged some youths to aspire for leadership roles other than waiting to impose themselves during elections. Mr. Banda has further urged citizens to elect the MMD based on its good performance record.

KASAMA central MMD candidate Chilekwa Munkonge says some youths are ready for leadership roles.

And President Rupiah Banda has officially flagged off the tarring of the four hundred and twenty billion kwacha Kasama-Mporokoso road. Mr. Banda has also commissioned the newly tarred Kasama-Luwingu road constructed by Sable construction at a cost of K190 billion. Speaking during the commissioning President Banda declared that time is now ripe to rebuild and transform the country.

The President pledged more development in all sectors of the economy once re-elected. The president was speaking at a joint ceremony held at Itamina road junction in Kasama on Wednesday. The president urged Zambians to reject politicians campaigning on tribal lines because all Zambians are one people.

And Road Development Agency-RDA chairperson Luambe Mondoloka, says Sable construction has been awarded the contract for the Kasama – Mporokoso road based on good performance.

And speaking at the same ceremony, Former Commerce Minister Felix Mutati, said that the new road will unlock the economic potential of the entire province once completed. Mr. Mutati has thanked President Banda for his dedication to Zambia’s development agenda.

The project involves the tarring of the one hundred and fifty kilometer stretch between Kasama and Mporokoso. Sable construction has already moved on site.

  1. And one of these young people is Humphrey Siulapwa!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  2. Alas!!!For once HERB has acknowledged that out with the old in with the young.HERB should be the last old man to run the country before 2016.So refreshing to hear that we are on the right track and no longer should we ever be taken for granted with the so called 90 days plans!!

  3. I think That should not be news

Is that meant to mean that other parties are not doing that? Was the president groomed as well. I think Mr Banda is trying too much, I am beggining to deslike him pationately. I hope he does not win, but then again Sata is worse than him .

These elections may be a farce. Thanks

    • “Mushota” – I have been waiting to ask you: is your real name Mary Mulenga of Matero near the Zesco sub-station? And is the photo you use that of your friend Lynda of Olympia? Please tell me “Mushota” because I know 9 Mary Mulengas and you’ll be my no. 10!

  4. mmd really acknowledge the fact that youths are tomorrows future leaders thats good….2016 a young person has to rule zambia we give rb thes 5years and a young leader in 2016

    • If they cant give up power to young people today, they WILL not do it in future. Are there no young people today for these old corrupt chaps like RB to say they are grooming young ones? Pathetic shameless liars.

    • K190 billion!!!!!and the whole project is likely to take so long to complete.I have never understood the criteria for costing road projects.Just doesnt make sense. What materials are sourced from outside the country? Those machinery how many are needed and would they realy cost so highly? This need serious consideration.

  5. That is good on the part of the republican president. That is what every progressive leader must think about. Continuity. Bembas say, “Imiti ikula epanga”.:)

  6. Jealousy down,jokes aside,the MMD has really performed.Viva RB,viva MMD.The opposition has nothing to talk about.Schools,Hospitals,Clinics,Roads,Agriculture,Tourism,Prisons,Courts, Airports,etc,etc

  7. Mr RB even if I support your party sometimes your mouth disappoints. You can’t make that claim now – only last week MMD adopted BYMwila as its candiate, Micheal Mabenga, and the list goes on. I know you are over 70 years old and to you anybody from 69 years and below is a ‘Youth’, but I think we request that you come down to earth and use conventional definitions. There are far younger guys you could have adopted for BY or Mabenga’s constituencies. In stead you actually instructed your NEC to strike younger guys off. Is that what you call grooming?? The only young guys are those who were already MPs even in the previous term…but look you have even refused to adopt the younger Angela Cifire and replaced her with a dinosaur!! Do as you say, Mr President – otherwise you are lying!!!

  8. Not so with Satan. He is grooming Bob Sichinga 65 years young, Guy Scott 77 years young, Willie Nsanda a youth at 60 and Kabimba another young man at 57.

  9. I told you RB is an all-rounder! Not the crap of one third of national budget on infrastructure, 90 days philosophy, breaking up provinces to employ more suckers, God forbid! HH should also think twice on his K5m minimum wage becoz its just not attainable;otherwise 2016 will elude him again if his members will be nice enough to allow him to stand.

  10. If Wynter Kabimba is trully 57 years old, then I under why he is so desparate! He is just about a decade before he retires from active public life. At that age, there isn’t enough energy left to start chasing new dreams, so hemust be worried that he has lived his life and not achieved his dream of being in government and ruling. It is also possible that he hasn’t achieved anything outside that dream. What a shame!! Maybe in sympathy we must just tolerate him as he struggles with his demons of a failed life….but not vote him into government, because he failed to achieve anything as a lawyer, he is still failing infact, so why should he be voted into power. He will just end up messing it up for everybody else so that we are all like him – total failures!!! Kuya bebele!!!

  11. This idea of the so called youths or the young taking over national leadership iz a fallacy. When the time comez, a 36 year old will become prezident with or without grooming, and not just becauze they are young.

  12. Who is standing on MMD ticket in Chemwemwe ? Ronald a young man without brains. He has never worked in his life. He is a supplier in the mines and has a very bad language. Some few weeks ago he was a UPND Provincial Yourth Chairman and now standing on MMD ticket as MP. MMD there you have lost. Where are the well mannered young men?

    • That is another thing that kills us, you say he has never worked yet he is obviously capable of earning a living, this shows a level of intellect that shows resourcefulness and initiative. and the well mannered young men think politics is beneath them, too dirty. They are cowards, not leaders.

  13. @23, Please let’s try to be realistic and practical about our arguments or contributions.
Anyway, I feel this is a major stepping stone in ushering in a new era in development. For a nation to prosper of even begin to do so, pure and unadulterated innovation is needed. The older leaders as wise and respectable as they may be, ought to recognise this fact (as RB has done) to show that the future of the nation and continent as a whole is secured..At least to some extent.
That is why they educated us.

  14. I do not support MMD economic policies but I admire their relatively more functional internal democratic processes as well as the adoption of many youths among the candidates.

  15. THIS IS WHAT WE CALL TRASH NEWS,ZRBC ALWYS BEHIND.RB grooming corrupt, incompetent youth to continues the CORRUPT RUNNING OF ZAMBIA,THE ONLY COUNTRIES IN THE WORLD,WHERE CORRUPTION IS LEGAL.OWE..OWE ZAMBIA TWASEBANA.

  16. What is this buffoon RB on about empowering young people, if you chaps really wanted to empower younger people you would have done that years ago…the only young you’re empowering is that sweet 16 wife of yours in State House.

  17. 2011 fresh blood! RB had promised to leave office after 3yrs,but is still hanging on.. Old African leaders dont easily give in.Blood has to spill before they either flee or get arrested. Youths must press hard and unite to dislodge these old sick elephants. Afterall, it is the young people, women, children who become casualties during conflicts. Vote for real change for a peaceful takeover by the young generation.

  18. RB has won the hearts of many because he’s certainly more mature, more issue based and more humble than his competitor. Many are the traits he has exhibited that reflect the fact that he is indeed the President of All Zambians. The past two years have been phenomenal as regards, development of the Health and Education sectors, road and infrastructure, and the area of Fdi. The issue of food surplus is also a true noteworthy achiement. A foundation has certainly been set for Zambia to grow and for the youth to take over at an appropriate stage. Only a bunch of fools would allow for such development to be wrecked by the Wynter Kabimba, Given, and Namakando advise Sata. Running of Zambia should not be given to the incompetent to experiment with. Perhaps Sata’s time shall be in 2016!!!!

  19. In 2016 MMD will have a youthful presidential candidate but fp will have Cobra again and again ! Cant trust fp now and then. How many of us could drive cars, own colour t.v’s,travel outside the country and own houses before Mmd came to power.Lets face it the landscape of Zambia has changed for the better.Tell yourself,sister/brother,son,daughter or friend that they can run for President anytime, thanks to Mmd.ytime, thanks to Mmd.

  20. Empowering the youth is not about being cadres. It is Jobs. Not the Chinese jobs that are there today, tomorrow the chinaman says it is not there. You cannot empower people by attending your rallies and chanting slogans. You cannot empower people or prepare people from Zimbabwe by giving them access to maim and kill Zambians during elections and say you are preparing the youth for the future. Banda must just say that he is empowering his family by having Zimbabwe Republican Police come and protect his misdeeds and corruption. Banda must tell Zambians who is paying for these thugs to even come and do dry runs in our country like terrorists.

  21. And one of the young people is Bwezani himself, at is 74 years young! No wonder he married a girl much younger than his own children and started siring new babies indiscriminately at his advanced age because he is under a mistaken illusion that this ka sambamulopa Thandiwe of his has made him grow younger! With all his loose skin in the face and god knows where else hanging around, he ought to check himself in the mirror to realise the process of aging is strictly one way, down!

  22. The way Sata behaves is proof that growing old is mandatory & growing up is optional. As for Bwezani it is proof that when a man his age falls in love with a woman half his age,it is not her youth he is after but only longing for his own youth.

  23. Nonsense sikopo, whatever your pen name is!wa kulila munsele mambala!munganda banwa imbamba or katata!talk sense than insults.makani yabija coz no pact.

  24. Friends, most of us bloggers are in the diaspora. We may love the MMD but people in Zambia are backing PF. Is it not time for us to be humble enough and respect those who will vote?

  25. UPND fails to field some candidates
The United Party for National Development -UPND- has failed to field candidates in 12 parliamentary constituencies in three provinces.

Party Secretary General Winston Chibwe has confirmed the development to ZNBC News in an interview in Lusaka on Wednesday.

Mr Chibwe says the UPND has no candidates in one constituency in the Western Province, three in the Northern Province and eight constituencies in Luapula Province.

Mr. Chibwe says this is because of technical problems at the last minute.

I know u very well if you contenue i will expose you. just to prove to you that i know u, you are a son to the founder member of upnd and still national management commitee member. stop bringing shame to your hard working father. last time you insulted manenga on radio icengelo phone in program. If you want to be a good polititian try to be like your father. in chimwemwe the best you have done is mashabin and tuntemba.

  29. There is a young man standing for Kitwe`s Wusakile on MMD who is on court cases because he stole copper cathodes worth K2 billion. Is this the young generation he is talking about. Shame on you MMD.

  30. am not MMD but I’m happy to see Mpondela..he has never left MMD even when the party was at its lowest, these are the true patriots and not people who support diferent parties each election or just from one political party to another or form their own political parties!!!! such people are not to be trusted!!
