Somalia: RB appeals to all capable individuals and corporate Zambia to help

President Rupiah Banda has appealed to all capable individuals and corporate bodies in the country to offer assistance to the drought-stricken country of Somalia.

President Banda says donations of high-protein food supplements, water or medical supplies would be most appreciated and would go a long way towards easing the crisis in which more than 12.4 million people are experiencing starvation and facing health hazards.

The Head of State says donations should be forwarded to the Disaster Management and Mitigation Unit (DMMU) under the Office of the Vice-President so that Zambia may render support to a fellow African state which is facing the worst drought in many decades.

Mr Banda says while Zambia is actively tackling development challenges, there is nonetheless a great need for Zambia to stand beside Somalia in this hour of immense suffering.

The President has also expressed his support for fundraising efforts by the African Union towards the Somali crisis.

  1. Sir your expenditure during your campaign doesn’t reconcile with your statemen. Its good to be realistic in expenditure and think of the others.

  2. God help us if he wins another election he will be flying all over the world eleven months in a year!

  3. mmmmmmmmmmmh if shoprite shares can disappear, what about this….??it will just be donations for campaigns…later uncle RB after elections maybe, not now or l would rather call somali myself and donate..thanks for the thought though…its tricky story l read..!

  4. Zambia also needs help, solve your sh.it in this country that your MMD has destroyed for 20 years then you can talk about helping other countries.

  5. Good Job RB, that is what is expected of a compassionate leader. To my fellow Zambians, lets Vote for either RB or HH….. HH& The real change team being the numeral uno choice. Please lets send Sata out of Politics for good. He will be a difficult man to deal with if we allow him in State house. You will not be able to say anything against Sata if, God forbid, he makes it to State House. Sata is dangerous. Mamma Kaseba should always remember to count her teeth after kissing Sata. Vote Wisely my friends.

  6. We are really middle income country,we have to help somalia!!! Oh,wait a minute,we still have starving village relatives, despite having rains every year….I feel pain when I see foreigners taking over this country,I feel pain when they are taking our jobs, look at MTN,look at Airtel, look at the banks,God forbid, every little good thing happening in this country is for the mwisas

  7. We did our part when we helped other countries get independence. No one even recalls our role. There are so many conutries between Zambia and Somalia.Let them first help. Our farmers produce crops at high cost only to sell at peanut prices. They cant even send their children to schools where the politician’s kids go not even at public schools.Who benefits from bumper harvests?Definately not the poor farmer. We can only sell that food to Somalia Government,if at all it exists.Talking of water, how many people in Zambia have access to safe water and sanitation?Governments in developing countries should be more responsible of their people’s wellfare.Who do we want to please by donations when street children and adults in almost all biger towns in Zambia go to sleep with an empty stomach?Hell

  8. Mr President, no we shall not offfer anything to Somalia.
Somalia destroyed their own country just the same as most zambian men cheat on their wives and their wives leaves them

Zambia is no much better than somalia in some ways anyway, atleast from my creative thinking if you ask me

You see there are very few of us that can help Somalia, with enough money like me and Nick. My suggestion is ask the Mr Cameron and Blair they have budgeted enormous amount of money for the wars that never end, and in engaging in these wars inocent people are dying who dont deserve to die more than these Somalians

I just finished having my dinner, and I did not finish, It just occured that if I was in zambia I could have given these left overs to some relatives in zambia, why be poor? its silly .Tks

    • Totally agree with you.Governments in third world countries must be more serious and responsible for the wellfare of their people.Birds never go hungry, why should humans with five senses starve? Its embarrasing.Africa must have shame

    • @Mushota, Get a hold of yourself you slut. Who cares what you and your wrinkled blowjob of a husband have? Just state your point and stop trying to prove things here. You disgusting little twat!

  9. # 7 mushota cameron and clegg already increased the amount of money going out to poorer countries. and to say that somalians destroyed their own country is simply not true. are you saying that people would deliberately choose to starve. have you ever worked for an NGO to see what really goes on in their country? ive travelled alot , ive seen many people in africa and some asian countries suffering. although i was born and grew up in england, my parents came to england in the 70s. my dad , who came from a poor family worked hard at school and qualified as a doctor, in birmingham and he was able to improve his life. the key to handling poverty in africa is to give more people opportunities through education rather than handouts. so you ask why be poor? its not there choice to be poor!

  10. #7 mushota ALTHOUGH IAM NOT MARRIED TO A ZAMBIAN, NOT ALL ZAMBIAN MEN CHEAT.MY DAD WHO IS ZAMBIAN HAS MORE RESPECT THAN MOST MEN I MET FROM OTHER WESTERN COUNTRIES!

    • Please dont let Mushota get to you. She deliberately tries to irritate. She’s not worth serious attention, and logical debate with her is out of the question. She’s one of those.

  11. Now i know who Mushota is.He comes from a very poor famliy. His dad is a retiree and goes around begging for food when his son is showing off in the Uk of his achievements.Mushota please help your family back home.Your dad is in desparate need of financial assistance. As for your brother please tell him not to show off.We all know how he got there get a grip.

  12. .
We said and encouraging message. We are already doing it by donating thousands of $ Dollars to help our brothers and sisters in Somalia & South Sudan. We may have different skin tones and hair textures but deep inside we are all the same humans. Surely more needs to be done.

I ask all those Churches in Zambia that are very good at asking for 10% from the congregations to dig deeper. If we are good at asking and taking from others, then we must also be good at giving to the less fortunate.

    Cont..

  13. .
Bill Clinton ( Former US President) has written a very good book called “ GIVING “ He has also put his words to actions by helping the poor.

Some will say what’s the point because Zambia is a poor nation too?

However, Western developed nations give to poor nations at the outlay of leaving poor people in their rich nations. As of today, the USA has 46 Million People on Food Stamps. Buts still, it donates millions to developing poor nations.

  14. We must realize that if Zambia, did not have rains for 3 years, we would find ourselves in the same situation, especially in rural areas were subsistence farmers depend on their small farm produces to feed their stomachs, or even sending their kids to school from small farming outputs.

The reason why the people of Somalia have suffered for decades has been due to lack of rains. Some tiny wits on this blog need some schooling a lot.

  15. Mr president how do help other people when your government cant feed all its citizens? People in lambwechomba also need help

  16. Some bloggers, based on what they are saying, have short memory. It is less than ten years ago that zambia was on the verge of starvation when rains failed. We then rejected GM food donations and it made headlines over the world.Even the US had to accept help during Katrina and in the Bible Jesus lauded, not the rich who gave much, but the poor woman who gave all her 2 silver coins.Give without being judgemental because the next time disaster strikes zambia we won’t like it if we’ll be judged harshly by the world why we don’t deserve to be helped.

  17. It is more blessed to give than to receive.
He who gives to the poor, lends to God.
    God is no man’s debtor.
    God loves a hilarious giver.
Cast your wheat on the high seas and after sometime, ships will return to you with a good measure, preceded down and running over.
This is the giving that God desires and not giving a Benz to a Pastor who already has four jets!!!
Please give and Zambia will be blessed.

  18. #7Mushota, your writing style is very poor, and that should be the case with your spoken English. I am sure it is equally poor. For how long have you lived in Britain? From your writing, I can tell that you are very dull.

    • ala English is our second language Ba Ngosa, no need to look down on a fellow Zambian like that. May be we just argue issues.

  19. 14# INDEPENDENT OBSERVER, we have seen the charitable works that you have done both in the uk and zambia. you have given billions of kwachas in donations to the poor, ophanage centres and schools in zambia from your high profile investment banking job in london. you are a true son of zambia at your young age. keep doing it and god will give you more.

    • We need more Zambians like you my brother. Let us build each other up. Envy and jealous never gets anyone anywhere. Thanks.

  20. POST-President Banda who earlier in the morning on Saturday was in Kitwe to commission road works by Mopani Copper Mines Plc and toilets in Wusakile townships, later held a political rally in the afternoon.

BA BANDA,U are  fond of commissioning irrelevant things, and now you have commissioned TOILETS in Wuzakile, you have done it i knew you would do this, a job which can be done by a town clerk or city major.U an embarrassment to Mother Zambia and the Zambians.Learn to know your duties Sir.Anyway what about commissioning some in Chibolya and Kanyama compounds?

  21. Good message Mr. President. We must learn to share the little that we have. There is nothing wrong with Zambia making a contribution. Our brothers and sisters in Somalia are going through a rough time and it is good that we lend a helping hand in this time of need.

  22. People you shouldn’t waste you thots and energy on this human flesh called mushota. What are friken piece of sh.it. i wonder why GOD ever spare crazy bustards like her. This Mushota must have slipped thro’ a condom. for sure wot kind of a human being is this?

  23. This is the problem of having a foreigner as a Zambian president in the name of Rupiah Banda. When Zambians were dying of POVERTY in Southern Province, RB donated MAIZE to Zimbabwe his relatives.

Only elections has made him to stay in Zambia, after the elections, he will TAKE OFF to his skill of SCAVENGING Airplanes to foreign TRIPS. What a SHAME!!

  24. Are we not doing enough by accomodating so many, no doubt at govt. expense. Take a walk around t Kamwala shopping area to see what I mean.

  25. the most powerful tool for personal and planetary transformation is one thing: giving.
Give and you’ll get. Give and you’ll prosper.Give and you’ll feel better.Give and you’ll live. “No matter what we give to life, we live it. Why not give more of what you wish to experience.” the president understands the power of giving.

  26. i think this is a very gud thought of thinking problems are made easier with a helping hand and things like drought can happen to anyone but i dnt think government at the moment is the right channel for such funds especially seeing the level of funds going into campaigns it would be better to use the church or we can come up with a group for such

  27. In this life, nothing is for free. Its illogical for a limpy Zambia to make donations before countries with higher reserves do so.That maize you want to dish out the poor farmer in Kaputa who cultivated the land hasnt even been payed by FRA.Briefcase buyers bought some at extremely low prices.Street children in Lusaka and other towns go hungry day in day out. This is hypocrisy.Somaly government should buy that maize because it is responsible for the well fare of its people.Governments in developing countries(Africa in particular) must be more responsible for their people.Otherwise whats the point of having a government?????And for Zambia those bumper harvests might not always be there. Are we ever ready for a drought?Tonnes of maize are reported to rot.Shame

  28. am pf but indeed this RB guy has a heart and its good he is thinking of other states in need,i wonder will my sata be like that

  29. There must be a bottomless pit from where MMD got its vast campaign materials. This source should help Somalia. Talking of lavish campaigns, remember Bishop Muzorewa’s carnivals and he lost miserably or BY’s 2001 campaign trail and lost so badly now he is an MMD parliamentary candidate? Well it could happen to MMD and there will be blue tears!

  30. If we say we have excess maize we might as well donate to them, instead of letting them go bad in the so called sheds.

These people are truly in need of our help.

  31. ZAMBIA = SOMALIA =POVERY =CHORELA= DIARRHOEA = MALARIA= STREET KIDS = DIRTY, how can you help when you havent helped your self RBISH

  32. If Zambians were as hard working as the Japanese or other foreigners like the Ndebeles, Zambia would have been a very prosperous country. For example, Luangwa Boma lies between two big rivers, Luangwa itself and the mighty Zambezi but what is amazing and hurting is that people there want to be given relief food year in year out. JICA had a rice farming project and put up all the necessary infrastructre there like canals, irrigation system and solar panels and gave the people skills. Immediately these guys left the scheme just started rotting, people started removing solar panels and the like yet the Ndebeles who are living in Chongwe, Mumbwa and Chibombo are the ones that are feeding Lusaka with agricultural products by simply using simple water pump pumping water the from dug up wells.

  33. Equally JICA had put up a youth centre at 15 miles which is now occupied by teachers and other people just because it could no longer be used after these guys left. So what I am saying is unless we change our mind set we shall continue to live in poverty even if someone put more money in our pockets if we don’t know how to use it poverty will still haunt us. I am even in other areas such infrastructure have been put but we cannot utilise them. In some places some are even failing to replace rotten grass on their houses, failing even to clean their surroundings, surely do we need a saviour to do this. Epo mpelele.

  34. Why assist Somalia when 85% of Zambians are also surviving on less US $1.00 per day. We all know that Zambia is no better than Somalia. We are one and the same. There is too much poverty in Zambia at the moment.

  35. Well said RB. This shows that we are a civilised and proud nation. Let us help our Somalian brothers and sisters.

May I add that it is not just the Somalians that have been affected by this drought. The Kenyans in the north are among those affected. The Kenyan government is doing its best but struggling not least because there is a shortfall of Unga in Kenya. They are having to import maize. The living conditions for the Somalians most of whom have crossed into North Kenya are deplorable. Their situation is not being helped by the presence of Al Shabbab who threaten their lives as they trek to Kenya and the same Al Shabbab attack the WFP and humanitarian NGOs staff.

  36. Yeah yeah yeah yeah yeah waba itol.e stanyooooooo.ko.
I also dont have food in my home, do u expect me to give it to my neighbour?
Rubbish Chitumbuwa Banda fight poverty first in Zambia then help othe countries wempofuwe!!!

  37. You block-heads, there is nothing wrong for a president to ask individuals and companies that can help a dire situation. This is all in the light of the African Union contributing something like 38 million dollars, and most of this money is raised this way. You are dull people who cant appreciate simple issues like this. In Zambia some individuals and companies are able to contribute, and if you can’t, shut up and leave it to those that can.

  38. ,,,and for you stupid Mushota, the President is asking able ZAMBIANS and to help save lives in Somalia, he did not ask bitches selling their bodies abroad to contribute, neither did he ask Scotts….I guess you are a second class Scott…stupit *****.

  39. Our President well spoken. The President is not asking failures in life to give he is asking from those who have more than enough like me and HH.So if u dont have just shut up and enjoy mundioli.VIVA RB.NAFUTI NAFUTI.

  40. Docni kubeebaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa………………!!! pa Bwaaatoooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo…………..!!!

  41. Mr President; we can help the Somalians by donating part of our maize stocks. Just a little will take them a long way. We have had two bumper harvests. You know Mr President, these rains we receive is just a blessing from God. If we give, then we will receive more. As we are proud of our good agricultural policies, we should all remember God first for the good free rains for past seasons.

  42. The young Patrick in today’s post says satana has a heart for the poor,I wonder who these are i want to guess its guys like MMEMBE,MULONGOTI,CHITALA,HIMSELF,MPOMBO,SEBASTIAN ZULU,CHABWERA the list goes on with the poorest of course being MMEMBE.MMEMBE just make your money useless chap dont use others we Zambians are very much awake now.Pay your debts and leave us to enjoy our peace. What u have acquired so far i guess is enough to make u shine in your home village mongu with your mother and siblings *****.

  43. Let him (RB & Sons Plc) donated part of the money he has stolen form our national coffers i.e. Zamtel saga, UPG election saucus etc. Zambia now known as Rupia Banda & Sons Plc.

  44. we can also donate atleast one mobile hospital while we are at it! ……best test for the technology and will also reduce GRZ expenditure on them.

  45. The president is asking able Zambians and coporate bodies, not peolpe that can’t even look after themselves. Somali’s are Africans, just like us and need help from those that are able to give…and I will.

  46. It is time Africans helped Africans. Everytime there is a disaster it is Europeans who are giving a K10,000 here and a K10,000 there. Imwe a Munthu, you just like to receive. Charity is unknown in Zambia. Africa has four dollar billionaires, of which three are South Africa and one in Nigeria but what do they do for charity? Ok, Nigerians are doing better, because TB Joshua’s and Victor (Hezekiah) Onukogu’s churches and others sent aid to Katrina victims. Zambians and South Africans… ndwiii!!!

  47. If only half the cost of those blue pickup truck can be donated to Somalia things might work out.

the MMD Govt must stop asking people to donate because they already have lots of money which they are currently using to buy bicycles, cars, trucks for campaign.

Don’t waste people’s time just give out to Somalia. money is there in the same coffer MMD is digging its dirty fingers in

  48. Thw Idea is good BUT the channel is wrong. I cant trust Kunda and RUPIA withany coin. They hae plundered the country through several fake and over charged contracts in the road sector to Buy campaigningmatterial. His corrupt behavoiur makes me doubt the credibility of any such action. I would defnatelt congrobute if it was through an NGO or privates sector initiative. Sorry mr Corruption, i cnt risk giving my money for the corrupt to celebrate

  49. It is important to note that the problem in Somalia is not due to drought or any natural cause but due to conflict among the moslem clans. Do we really need to involve ourselves in problems which that country has brought on to itself when we have enough problems at home. It would have been different if these problems were not man-made. I wish a quick solution be found for those innocent people there :-(

  50. Look at the poverty in Zambia. If your child was hungry would you neglect it to feed your next door neighbours child? Banda you are a f00l, You should be dealing with issues at home rather than being pretentious!!!! F00L
