Share

Faz is said to be preparing a shortlist of coaches on Thursday for the Zambia job vacated by Dario Bonetti.

According to Football House officials, the shortlist will later be tabled on Friday at an executive committee meeting and a decision made.

Amongst the names so far include three local coaches namely ex-Simba and Zambia trainer Patrick Phiri, Fighton Simukonda of Nakambala Leopards and Konkola Blades coach Keagan Mumba.

Phiri has official said that he is willing to return to the fold if asked to.

The official says ex-Zambia assistant coach Patrice Beaumelle is also in the race for the job.

Faz is said to be looking for a coach who has a good knowledge of Zambian players and with experience in Africa giving Phiri and Beaumelle potential candidates to make the shortlist.

  1. Yayi nakana maningi Phiri should not be our coach. We dont want to go to the Nations cup and get another 5-0 bashing from Cameroon. Sorry Cameroon is not there but with Phiri in charge we will be inviting such cricket scorelines of defeat by any other team. We want to go there and win the cup not to PARTICIPATE. We have done enough of that!

  2. no no no no baumwele was known to be physical trainer, when did he graduate to be coach or do the two mean the same thing(physical trainer and coach) educate me.

  3. We need Roald Poulsen! He was a very good coach and he must be given chance to mould Zambia into a disciplined, purposeful and forceful team!

  4. I would have loved them to wait. There is no need to rush things or we will end up with another Burkhard Ziese. Just because the guy mentions a few players after using the search engine everyone gets flattered!

  5. Indeed we have very short memories sure, Patrick Phiri has no capacity to read the game at International level. This is the man who stood like a monument as our team was being bashed 5-0, he had no clue or plan B.
HR left for greener pastures, surely let him be. Respect must be mutual, nomba ninshi going back to Amalushi?

  6. Roald Poulsen?? seriously? looks like some people are still living in the past indeed, please lets move with time. forget about Poulsen, HR etc. I tortally agree that FAZ would hav jst taken their time, because however good/bad the new coach will be, I doubt if he will influence our perfomance at Fria cup, with barely 2 months to go.

  7. So long as you have a FAZ executive that laid back and doesn’t set targets. we’ll always be runners up at the Africa Cup and we’ll never set foot in a World Cup Final.
Why dig up dinosaurs like Roald Poulsen when there are lots of young managers in Europe, get a manager to work with a Zambian coach in fact bringing Poulsen is just a short term solution which is just recipe for disaster.
Learn to move on, damp Kalu as well whilst you are at it!!

  8. Imwe, We still have good Coaches in the country, Freddie Mwila and Col. Brightwll Banda, (no relationship with RB)….. they can help with the tech bench…… On Faz short list Beston Chambeshi is left out…. personally I prefer Beston to Fighton.

    • no room for a local coach in my opinion, just check through the qualifiers and see which local coach has qualified their teams to the AFCON, ask South Africa, Nigeria and the list is long……all we need is a coach with pedigree, not blind patriotism bane

  9. Zambians you never cease to amaze. 47 years after independence and you still think the National team winning is about a coach ! With the current crop of players you can bring in Ferguson from Man U Zambia would not win.

Talent is the issue withvour team. We need good organisation at grass roots and tap talent and develop ! With some luck some Drogba Essien , Gyan might come out. Right now Zambia is going no where .!!!!!!!!!!!

  10. History shows that the best thing is not to expect much from the National Team. They re perennial under-archivers. Look at the local ( Zambia ) league and tell me which team is worth watching. Our problems are rooted in the organisation of the game right from nursery to the premier league. I wish they had allowed Bonneti to take them to the CAN. With teams like Nigeria, Cameroon and Egypt not going, we stand a better chance of going further than we did last time.

  11. Just look for Paulsen and bring him back ba fikala imwe. These so called Zambia coaches are iliterates who can not function under tatical pressure. Most of them even look sick.

  12. I totally agree with # 1, Patrick is the last person we should think of coaching our national team. 1. Does he have the technical know how of modern football? 2. Can he deliver to our expectations? 3. What will happen to him if we get booted in the first round? My opinion on the questions l raised are 1. Patrick doesn’t have to technical know how of modern football as evidenced to the 5-1 bashing at the hands of the Lions of Yaounde (failing to read the game) Instead of giving the players some tactical instruction he just decided to sit on the bench and watch aimlessly. 2. The problem we have in this country is that we want try and error. Patrick failed us and chances of performing to our expectations are minimal. 3. Its better to bring back Renard as he understands the players better.

  13. ity was a wrong thing to fire the coach in the first place with only two months to go.now out of desparetion you end up picking up from the recycling bin.muuuh how about charles musonda as an asistant coach.if God answers sure prayers as praying for wisdom to choose the right coach then we need to pray for direction.come on guys the cup is really pointing at us.

  14. Paulsen is yet another Sata. We need him to build a strong team again because the Old Chaps are really tired Mbesuma, jacob, Katongo, Chamanga, Chintu, Chivuta. Comeone guys let us Paulsen back soonest

  15. FA in England changes managers like shirts but never want to accept that England national team fails because players are not good enough. They have cried for English coach, failed, cried for foreign coach, failed, now crying for local coach again. Will fail again.

Same with Zambia. End of ZCCM was end of quality investment in footballers in Zambia.

  16. I join the guys calling for paulsen he really is a tactitian with an eye to spot young talent. The Zambian coaches are failures just watch our league and see the type of talent they pick!!! Most of the players are fit for nyau dancing not football-thats why we cant have our players in major world leagues. The national team is GARBAGE IN-GARBAGE OUT arrangement. Take any world class coach to train our Nyau dancers you will still not will the africa cup all because of our local coaches picking wrong players in the local teams.

  17. for me Herve Renard is a good bet, despite the manner in which He left. with the little time left he’s the best in fact even for the World cup qualifiers. i see as making our very own ‘Mourihno’ if HR is hired.

  18. Brave  Rangers iz probably the best team you want to watch in the Zambian league. Forget all thoze coachez we have uzed before, bring in a trainer determined to make an impact(not to reap from an Afrikan country) in a short time with a view to establishing a lasting future relationship. Then involve abaleya Peter Kaumba, Wedson Nyirenda or indeed Bruce Mwape. And pliz leave His Excellencey Micheal Chilufya Sata, President of the Republic of Zambia, out of this national team coach issue.

  19. I think lest engae Beston Chambeshi,he is the best coach since power is leading the MTN league.
Wish Bamfuchile was around.Rest in peace

  20. Renard tok us as far as the quarter finals sumthn wich last hapnd 1996 wen o th big teamz wr present..But lukin @th current teamz @th forecomin AFCOM renard can tek us evn up2 th finals.
