Government happy with response to male circumcision

Share

Government has expressed happiness at the rising number of people going for male circumcision in the country.

Minister of Health Joseph Kasonde says there is need to put in place measures that would scale up interventions of people going for male circumcision in rural areas.
Dr. Kasonde said his Ministry would come up with sensitization programs that would encourage men to go male circumcision.

“So far, I think we are impressed with the increasing numbers in urban areas, we hope to sensitize those in rural areas also so that they are aware of the importance of this exercise, ” he said.

He was speaking at a stakeholders’ consultation meeting on joint strategy to scale up voluntary medical male circumcision for HIV prevention in East and Southern Africa in Lusaka today.

Dr. Kasonde explained that Zambians have so far started appreciating male circumcision because they now known its importance. And speaking earlier, World Health Organization (WHO) Country Representative Olusegan Babaniyi noted that male circumcision was not only important for prevention of HIV/AIDS but for cancer of the cervix in the females.

Dr. Babaniyi noted that men that have not under gone the exercise of male circumcision were at high risk of infecting their partners with cervical cancer.
He said this was because males that were not circumcised carried bacteria that could cause cervical cancer in women.

  1. “He said this was because males that were not circumcised carried bacteria that could cause cervical cancer in women”.LOL

  2. I regret going for circumcision, it now takes me a very long time to cum, very frustrating! I want my foreskin back!!

  3. THIS CAN BE A SOURCE OF OUR YOUTH IN NORTHWESTERN PROVINCE. JUST TRAIN THEM AFTER GOING TO ZNS FOR TRAINING.

LET US PARENTS AND PARENTS TO PLAN TO TAKE OUR CHILDREN EARLY SO THAT THEY DON’T GO THEIR WHEN THEY ARE OLD LIKE THAT ONE WHO WENT AT 70 YEARS. NO DISCRIMINATION ATTACHED.

THIS IS A WELCOME MOVE TO HELP REDUCE CERVICAL CANCER AND WHAT YOU KNOW.

  4. Circumcision is a dangerous distraction in the fight against AIDS.  There are six African countries where men are *more* likely to be HIV+ if they’ve been circumcised: Cameroon, Ghana, Lesotho, Malawi, Rwanda, and Swaziland.  Eg in Malawi, the HIV rate is 13.2% among circumcised men, but only 9.5% among intact men.  In Rwanda, the HIV rate is 3.5% among circumcised men, but only 2.1% among intact men.  If circumcision really worked against AIDS, this just wouldn’t happen.

The one randomized controlled trial into male-to-female transmission showed a 54% higher rate in the group where the men had been circumcised btw.
ABC (Abstinence, Being faithful, and especially Condoms) is the way forward.  Promoting genital surgery will cost African lives, not save them.

  5. We hope those circumcised men will not be deceiving themselves that they are immune to HIV, use your fore skin and you will be gone very soon. For now abstinence and condom are the winning alternatives.

  6. Abstinence is 100% proof. Why go for less than the best?
Only a weak man would say they cant leave without s e x.

  7. Africa is the victim of the compulsion of circumcised advocates to pass their painful loss on to others. Circumcision does not “prevent” anything except natural sexual enjoyment. Many professionals have criticized the studies making claims about HIV. Circumcision causes physical, sexual, and psychological harm. Other methods to prevent HIV transmission (e.g., condoms and sterilizing medical instruments) are much more effective, much cheaper, and much less invasive. Please see http://www.circumcision.org/hiv.htm for more information.

  8. I think circumcised men have hard work during the game. Exposed and hardened skin plus condom males one sweat to reach the peak. That is why they end up removing a layer of condom and go live and results are that you have more HIV positive circumcised men in the countries mentioned above.

  9. THERE IS NOTHING TO BE EXCITED ABOUT PEOPLE GOING FOR CIRCUMCISION FIRST WE NEED INCREASED NUMBER OF CLINICAL OFFICERS WHO CAN CONDUCT THE EXERCISE AT EVERY MEDICAL CENTRE. WE CAN SAVE ALOT OF RESOURCES IF THIS WAS DONE SEVEN DAYS AFTER BOYS ARE BORN. A GOOD EXAMPLE IN DR CONGO THAT IS HOW IT IS CONDUCTED. WE NEED ALOT OF DRUGS AND HEALTH PERSONNEL IN MEDICAL INSTITUTIONS UNLIKE WAHT IS OBTAINING AT THE MOMENT IN CASE DR. KASONDE HAS FORGEN SINCE HE SPEND MOST OF HIS TIME AROUND WORKING FOR UN. BAKALAMBA DONT CLOSE YOURSELF UP AT NDEKE HOUSE TAKE A COUNTRYWIDE TOUR AND SEE FOR YOURSELF. SEING IS BELIEVING.

  10. No arguments. Circumcised men are cleaner than those who are not. It is true that circumcision does reduce chances of getting the hiv virus by about 65%. This is because the foreskin is the virus major entry into the blood system because for in most men it gets cut during sexual intercourse. Those cuts are the window through which the virus enters the body. You do not need to be a doctor to know this.Just grow interest in reading widely. “pakadafunda panadwewestsa galu. Ati ukulowa kule ipaisha.” Leave those shapely bottoms alone.

    • Most uncircumcised men get cuts? Could you provide the peer-reviewed studies where you get this information?

65%? Does this mean that if 100 men get circumcised and have sex with HIV+ women 35% of them will get HIV and 65 will not? Can you tell me what “65%” really means?

I will tell you; there is not a single scientist who can tell you how having normal genitals increases your chances of getting HIV, and circumcision reduces it. The “cuts” are a hypothesis; there is not a single “study” you can name that tells you this is precisely what happens. Find it. I dare you.

“60%” was the difference of a subgroup of 137 uncircumcised men and 64 circumcised men who got HIV. When you consider 10,098 men were involved in the study, the real difference was 1.31%; hardly significant.

  11. Only fools believe that circumcision protects them from HIV infection and so on. Those who tell you to do that are not circumcised!! I hear that in Malawi, there are two districts where everybody is a muslim yet everybody is HIV positive. How can you believe what you are told by these neocolonialists. I’m sure that those of you who have been circumcised while adults, are regretting. This practice is not for rejucing the HIV infections but it is a cultural and religious obligation. Wake up!! I’ll not make my son be miserable becauce of my ignorant decision. I hear Malawians are as ignorant as Zambians on this issue… Stop it!!!!!!

  12. Actually i also doubt the benefits of circumcision. In Europe there are a lot of men without circumcision and HIV rate is very low compared to africa. The big problem of african men is to have sex when the woman is not ready.Try to play with the woman before having sex.Not only that use the condom on top of that, the chances of getting HIV is very low. African men want women to feel pain thinking he is doing the great job.oooops that’s nonsense can’t u wait thfor the woman to be ready ? circumcision is very dangerous,u can’t enjoy the woman.Ha ha ha i’m still fresh with my skin.I won’t waste my time going to the clinic to be circumcised.

    • how do you know that you can’t enjoy a woman because you are not circumcised, ask the ladies them selves they will tell you the difference

  13. am not sleeping with girls i dont know very well anymore and just trust a condom!!! i went out with my new female friend whom we had barely known each other for two days to a bar and after few bottle of singtao and some wine we got excited, damn the condon just burst ed, i was so scared i had to go to the hospital twice over the period of 6months just to make sure i was ok. i’m not cheating on my Chinese chick anymore………………..

  14. It’s nice to see that not everybody is buying the circumcision/HIV hype. Plenty of “studies,” that don’t reflect reality. Is there any reason why, according to USAID, HIV was prevalent among the *circumcised* in 10 out of 18 countries? Is there any reason why STD rates, including HIV, are higher in the US, where 80% of males are circumcised, than in Europe where circumcision is rare?

Additionally, Africans should beware the propaganda. Joseph Kasonde and other promoters boast this “rise in circumcision,” but is it even true? Other sources say that coordinators are having trouble getting their programs off the ground. Is Kasonde telling the truth, or is he trying to impress benefactors?

Hygiene does not require surgery. If one must still were a condom, circumcision is pointless.

  15. The problem is that you went for a hight cut which left you with not enought foreskin on the shaft for stimulation, tough luck.
