Malawi promise to deliver an apology, Libya recognition awaits cabinet approval-Kambwili

Foreign Affairs Minister Chishimba Kambwili

MINISTER of Foreign Affairs Chishimba Kambwili says Zambia has held bilateral talks with the Malawian government, which has promised to send an envoy to Zambia to deliver a special message to President Sata and an apology over his deportation in 2007.

“When we were in Perth (Australia) we had bilateral talks with the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Malawi, who is His Excellency President Bingu wa Mutharika’s brother, and he has promised that he is coming to Zambia to deliver a special message and an apology to His Excellency President Michael Chilufya Sata,” Mr Kambwili said

And Mr Kambwili has said that Government is waiting for Cabinet approval to recognise the new Libyan government after the ousting and subsequent death of former leader Muammar Gaddafi. Mr Kambwili said in an interview on Thursday Government will reopen its embassy in Libya after Cabinet approval, which the MMD administration closed during the unrest that rocked the North African country.

“I can tell you that we are waiting for Cabinet approval on whether to recognise the new government of Libya. Zambia believes in the sovereignty of other states and will not interfere in their internal matters. If the people of Libya have agreed to change government then we will respect that,” Mr Kambwili said.

He said he does not see any reason for Cabinet to fail to approve the recognition of the new Libyan government because no-one has objected to it. Mr Kambwili said the previous administration completely closed the embassy in Libya and opened another in Turkey.

“As PF government, we are relooking at the whole issue. We would rather maintain the embassy in Libya and open the one in Turkey,” Mr Kambwili said.

  1. The PF is littered of ugly looking people, no wonder its full of comedy. How can we have Kambwili representing our faces to the outer world? And then, the world is yet to see his Boss! Now wonder alot of foreign investors r leaving.

    • What a shallow being you are. I take you’re one of those who spends too much time looking in the mirrow decieving yourself that you’re probably the best looking person in the world. If you have nothing better to contribute take your rubbish were it’s tolerated.

  2. # 1 respect other people for it is not their choice to look the way you presume them to be.it is GOD choice, more over average zambians look like that.ba LT you have to put a code of comments not the way this are ,we have to maintain our culture and values.iam a man of colour but iam proud of my dad been black or african.

  3. Definitely Kambwili is not a diplomatic material, he is to abrasive in personal appearance & speech. not fit in the position period.

  4. PF government must make a difference from the previous regime. embrace only those traits which are beneficial to the populace.

  5. A very typical Zambian trait (did we inherit even that from our colonialists??) of stereotyping. Instead of discussing the issue at hand we turn full throttle on looks, perceived abrasiveness, the lot. Pathetic! No wonder we tolerate swimming pools on our roads and call them potholes!

  6. @#1 and #5 Mufana and Zubera. Shall we have look at your fathers, mothers, sisters, yourselves and your ungly wives please?

  7. Mr. Kambwili, You went to Perth for serious talks not bring issues that happened in 2007, let’s move on and forget about what happened to SATA then. The bible Says Forgive and forget. Can’t we move on?
@ 2 Planzo: With regards to Appearances. As much as we don’t choose our looks, People can be SMART especially when they represent us internationally, as you know people judge you based on your looks. It is a fact of life.
Most PF Zambian Ministers are Very scruffy and dirty looking. We need a proper dress code for these Leaders (Kaunda was strict with his Ministers appearances).
They have Money and can afford Gym. Kambwili is Young he can control his weight. Shamenda can shelve his beard to lead by example to the youth, just to mention a Few.

  8. @ # 1 may your generations to come be as you have perceived others and that is “urgly looking”
your own word shall grow to your ruine..

  9. zambians are so pathetic it is unreal! having met mr kambwili he dresses better than any minister iv ever seen …. stop being jealous wehter u like it or not he is the foreign affairs minister so instead of critisim and support him!!! FU CK ING WAke up u silly people!!!!! look at what he is talkign about not what he is wearing

  10. That Satana and his minions in the likes of Chimbwi-li will bring war upon this nation with their petty little squabbles na ka Bingu wa Mutharika. Chimbwi-li and your boss Satana please grow up and discuss your personal theft-related problems with Malawi away from the public eye. We were not involved in your spat in 2007.

  11. Or may be Chizimba himself was drunk when talking to Peter Mtharika and misheard the man. It would be foolish of Malawi to apologise for a non issue which happened when someone was a private citizen.

  12. @#3 Kambwili is a grade three and worked all his life as a driver when he joined PF he started making noise and threatening the mines so they gave him a contract to deliver mahoyo. We are not against opportunity for all. We are against international embarrassment. The diplomatic community is of high caliber educated people who will easily swallow Mr Kambwili and treat him as a lesser person therefore from a lesser country. Foreign affairs is the first impression countries get about each other.

  13. ITS A SHAME THAT MOST ZAMBIANS CAN’T DISCUSS ISSUES. IS THE LOOK THE OF KAMBWILI AN ISSUE AT ALL. WHICH LOOKS DO YOU WANT HIM TO POSSESS?

  14. #1 & #19 are both right. If Kabwili was educated, it could have covered his ugliness. People are simply scared of that thing, thats why it/he was offered a post. Its same with Tswangirai of Zim, they look thug-sh, which they are of course.

  15. And if Sata won’t fire Kabwili to bring “embarrassments” from the common-wealth meeting in Austria, by holding by trying to negotiate his private deportation, then Sata is no longer wise. And do you beg and demand apology? Kabwili, chikala chobe, demand apology from me, for that one.

  16. Mr Kambwili in international diplomacy, you don’t stand on a hill and start revealing other countries’s intended indication. Diplomacy is not so easy. Now we understand why you are busy recalling quality people with traceable records of perfomance to be replaced by PF thugs and UPND starving leaders. Please, this not KMB.

  17. This ‘apology’ issue has now become stale. How do you expect another country to apologize for how it treated a private citizen, since Sata was representing himself that time. On the issue of Libya, recognition of transitional council should have occurred many moons ago. I guess it will be a mere formality. In future the new govt should learn how to correctly forecast events.

  18. # 1, your thinking stinks, I can’t stand your sentiments. You seem to be a Kaponya in diaspora, sorry! The guys deserve all the respect because they are in leadership, trying to do their job. Shhhhhhhhh mambala.

  19. I understand looks are deceiving but a little effort helps.Remember even Gordon Brown had to go through a transformation.Going to fitness instructor might help put himback in shape and emprove his health.

  20. PF kaponyas from the presidency to the councillors, no quality thinking. Malawi govt can not apologise to an individual. The state is greater than any individual because they have a priviledge and right to what they did them. As long as they followed the law. Even here in Zambia, have you heard KK apologise to people tortured during his regime like General Miyanda, Christon tembo and many other who lost lives during one party dictatorship? No! ways all you can do is sue the state which Sata Zondwa correctly did. have you heard FTJ apologise publicly to Nakatindi and Dean Mung’omba for arresting them and torturing them, No! Everything is done is the name of the state whether good or bad! Sata can hang, he committed such offences? in his own capacity not as head of state.

  21. People, lets call a spade a spade. This guy Kambwili is not presentable. Furthermore he does not appear to have a good grip of what he is talking about. Is it proper for him to announce what discussions he had with his Malawian opposite number to the media so early? Why cant the two countries use diplomatic channels to resolve whatever issue may exist, instead of creating a media fest? Sorry I can not credit this guy for anything so far and therefore I am inclined to side with blogger # 1.

  22. I am trying to think about how Kambwili would conduct himself if he had a meeting with the likes of Hilary Clinton and William Hague. After all, these should be his counterparts from the USA and the UK respectively. The other people that come to mind are the likes of Colin Powell and Condoleeza Rice. All these people are very accomplished individuals and just their names command a lot of respect. The performance of MCS and our foreign minister simply shows that they are more suited for internal and domestic issues. Then again, I tell myself that they are doing job on training and may, with time, mature into their roles. Only time will tell.

  23. The position of President should not be used to settle old scores since the incident happened when MCS was in the opposition. Diplomacy in such positions is very important and decisions in politics are in most cases made as and when a situation arises. This is tantamount to settling old scores now that you are in a position of influence. Sometimes in life you need to learn to let bygones be bygones and move on. The next thing is that he is going to ask the girl(s) that turned him down to apologise for having done so.

  24. You touch an american private citizen and see how the entire USA will descend on Zed. In fact it was MMD who should have demanded for an apology from Malawi for mistreating one of its citizens. So what the PF is doing is what MMD failed to do. On the looks I won’t comment coz its a non issue.

  25. Does LT have a moderator for these blogs? Some bloggers use foul language on other bloggers and the president. Whether people like it or not Mr. Sata is the president of Zambia and needs to be respected. Next time Sata will be out and your favourite person will be president. Can you imagine Americans writing such rubbish about Obama? You are free to criticise, yes, but use good languange to convey your point. Please do not take freedom of the press for granted. As for the topic at hand, the PF government should not press Malawi for an apology. Mr. Sata was at the time a mere opposition leader and deserved what he got for dubiously courting the opposition of that country. Period.

  26. This Guy needs some grooming ,we have a right as Zambian
People to clean cut ,smartly dressed ppl to represent us
I would be embarrassed if I saw him CNN,BBC

  27. yba..these chaps..something that happened 4 years ago../why would you wait for an apology..we want development..!!if you ve failed..no 1 is right!!

  28. let sata check ottawa there are too many audit quarries from the accountant. accounts do not need to be in one place for more than three years like this lady here. she has possesed ottawa mission like heal. ans she has too many audit qaries. but the past government coulnt do anything at all. why. sata do something change this accountant under nevers mumba. recall her, she is a thief

  29. ugly faces go with urgly hearts.the whole PF team is fool of such fearful faces, why eeh you guys we gat to face facts
