China to help Zambia rehabilitate the Tazara line and link it to Angola

Share

China says it will help Zambia rehabilitate the Tanzania-Zambia Railway line and link it to Angola.

This will enable Zambia to have a direct passage from the Atlantic Ocean to the Indian Ocean.

Chinese Minister of Commerce Chen De Ming says this will be done because china considers Zambia a favorable investment destination and wants to contribute its development.

Mr. Ming says being a landlocked country, Zambia’s development is highly dependent on the development of its transport infrastructure and logistics.

He says once completed the project will link the Eastern and Western parts of the continent and help accelerate Zambia’s industrialization process.

The Chinese Minister noted that the port of Dar-es-Salaam will also need to be overhauled as there will be an increase in Cargo going to Zambia.

Mr. Ming says China has already done a feasibility study on the project, which is yet to be submitted to President Hu Jintao.

He said this on Wednesday when he called on Zambia’s First Republican President Kenneth Kaunda at Diaoyutai State Guest House in Beijing.

And Dr. Kaunda assured the Chinese government of a good working relationship with President Michael Sata describing him as an honest and truthful person.

Dr. Kaunda says President Sata is going to work with China just he himself did when he was President of Zambia.

  1. k.k has been reduced to a cheap liar. i thought kavindele and company are the ones with a signed contract to link zambia and to angola. ba k.k, when did sata become honest?

  2. We are currently not utilising our railway system. This can be seen from the number of heavy duty trucks on our roads, damaging our poor raods

    • And people said PF had no foreign policy!!! apologies to Angola and next go to Beigin and get the Chinese on board!!! TRUELLY DONCH KUBEBA… i AM BEGINING TO HAVE SOME CONFIDENCE IN THIS ADMINISTRATION. UMUNWE PAKANWA!!

    • Lets invite them to open a China industrial park in Zed, maybe they can teach us the secret of cheap mass production so we can flood Africa with Zambian products!!!

    • @MR ABILITY:

I see you are not a politician, but one thing you should know is that in politics you should never have permanent enemies, nor permanent friends!!! If you do, you will be brutally disappointed—-KK is pragmatist, and that how “fathers” should act!!

  3. @ Mr Bean, #5, the railway line will pass through north western privince. The project could start as soon as may 2012. Zambiam governement will be given a loan of $2bn for the project, with Angola contributing $621m.

  4. And what are we giving the Chinese back…its like jail, dont just receive gifts…a stadium here and there, a pipeline…then at midnight Mama Zed will feal it in the ass…now shoot me guys!

    • It depends on how you look at it, Kansashi is closer to Angola hence exports through that route will be cheaper. We will also service the Lubumbashi mines as there is no link between Katanga and Kinshasa. They should also negotiate a deal for an oild Pipe line from Angola it’s cheaper for us to buy oil from Angola than from the middle east.

    • We should be extra careful when dealing with these Chinese otherwise we would be giving away the independence Zambia has.

  5. utuma choncholi, these chaps know how to chew. they were whinning and dinning with chi rb and mmd, and now its sata and pf. its just a case of knowing which side of bread is buttered.

  6. These negotiations started in RB’s time and there is nothing that has been started now.
It is important for those who take pride in ignorance to know that.
I hope they will not try and defend their ignorance so that they remain proud as ignorant people.
    I hope someone knows that.

    • What ever just like RB was commissioning everything LPM started, Am pretty sure Kavindele must have applied for Chines citizenship prior to this :”>

    • Ohhh and dont forget it took MMD 20 years to realise that we needed to use the Angolan port. But i guess they could not do that as their former defence minister BY Mwila was beasy selling arms to UNITA.

  7. MCS told the nation that he will use the Chinese to advance Zambia`s development when he called that reconciliation party with Chinese business people.

  8. A ball is the most undirectional object in the field.
The player kicks it in any direction and it will go.
It understands nothing about what is happening; such that even when a defender kicks it in his own goal it will go in.
This is how PF cadres are.
SATA can kick them in any direction he wants they will support.
He can tell them I will bring constitution in 90 days – they clap; I will not do that; they clap.
I will bring back the windfall tax; they clap. I will not bring it back; they clap.
I will scruitnise the Chinese investors; they clap. I will not do so; they clap.
SATA is seing the PF cadres as footballs and sees himself as footballer of the year. I think he will view himself as footballer of the year for the next five (5) years.

    • Ya right its coz MMD frastrated us too much such that we’re even ignoring Sata’s mistakes. Most of us who voted 4 PF are not even talkin about 90 days. Better being led by a clever lying President Sata than a stupid, misled, day light disrepectiful RB thief, who is even misled by an old sarvege william banda. DUMP ASS RB.

  9. The Americans supported the PVT and even had RB step down quickly. Their reasoning? They discovered China had strong plans to link Dar and Luanda via Tazara and that would give them absolute control and access to natural resources. The bargain? Get the Chinese critic, MCS, with all his known weaknesses, into power to cut off Chinese penetration into the region. What happened next? MCS hosted the Chinese for a meal and sends KK to China. What then? The Americans have realised they made a huge mistake and now…..(fill in the spaces)

    • The American whant to derail Zambian progress?? baba let the Chinese come and open a 100 mines in Zambia as long as cities and loacl employment is built around those mines. Dont follow America and Europe let them fix their Sh%##$t first. look east Africa look east.

  10. Well done our lovely super Ken. No 1. Ulitole sana kapuli, Kavindele has no capacity to build a rail line. In the next 6 months an announcement will be made on the construction of the 1000MW power station on the Luapula river.

  11. Looking at the confusions that have rocked TAZARA,the plan of extending it should not be implemented. It should just be rehabilitated and up to Kapiri Mposhi.
Zambia should just have another line to the Atlantic Ocean with its headquarters in Zambia with a new management set up and nothing more or less.Enough is enough with what has been going on in TAZARA.
To make Zambian roads last long and reduce congestion on them, other rail lines should be constructed to the oceans.

    • You sound confused!!! No extention done, and then other rail lines??? this will link North Western and Western Provinces to the port at Luanda, and the Chinese have offered to rehabilitate the port and Dar Re Salaam. Can you try to see the bigger picture here, it’s not about TAZARA it’s about Zambian gaining a strategig position and a landlocked country. My guess is the Angola-Zambia line will be under a different administration.

  12. of course, the lines are intended at efficiently getting resources to China. Sooner or later, these guys will be establishing a Chinese flight with low fares charged to tight young girls.

  13. zambians are just like monkeys in a maize field, every little bit of good news excite them.@13 ORGASM what is the rate of the dollar today tombaaa norko? we want practicle issues not ecting news norko icchinyo

  14. I can see light at the end of the tunnel, thanks to the man of wisdom HE,we have now realised that you are not a tribalist. What a combination with KK,the sky is the limite.

  15. Lets note that the People of the Republic of China are indeed good at manufacturing fake things. Some tabloids have it that the had even at once gone as far as reprinting the US dollar. We need as as nation what we have to give in return and maybe have some qualified people to check on what will be constructed which should be at at nay cost up to standard. What Zambia will have to pay back is a vital point.

    • OK general Motors have a plant in China manufacturing those Hummers, Apple Does not have a plant in the USA all their gadgets are made in China, IBM, Chevrolotte etc and please TAZARA is there for you to inspect, even theough it has been abused with lack of maintenance it has still survived. Let us get the bigger picture here China needs this railway line, they need it for Zambia, and they need it for Angola Huambo region still has no roads so this line will be the life line of trade and commerce.

  16. I know I can trust KK but can we trust MCS. Has he changed for the better now. Thanks Super Ken for your effort. Yu are a real statesman. God bless you. I know China means well to our county lets support them. I can also see some tumajobs being created here. I am sure we have to give super ken a thunderous welcome when he arrives back paZed. KaMushota kambako where are you mfana. We are missing your ever off targets comments.  I end here!

  17. How do you say ‘Pardon my tail tucked humbly in between my legs. I did not realise how dependent we are on you.’ in Chinese?

  18. Good job Ba KK Sata keep this good work use the old man since you don’t have a minister for foreign affairs

  19. This how it should have been right from the beginning. Ka FTJ instead of using KK’s vast experience, he started fighting him. Good job to HE MCS. What he needs to do next is to put credible people to help him run govt. Chishimbwa Lukasu, Leopard whatever they call him is not minister material. Job well done

  20. The PF government should seriously consider ways of rehabilitating the Chililabombwe – Livingstone railway line which RSZ have dismally failed to bring to commercial use and serve the the nation in its economic development. The railways have become a relic and a white elephant, despite the potential for development. For Zambia to achieve desired growth, a sound transportation system is imperative. Presently the roads are over – used and therefore cost a fortune in maintenance and repair works.A good railway system will provide relief to the
road network. Besides a lot of goods are best transported by rail.

  21. K K will always remain a true states Man not matter what he says.
Sata is wise enough to send K K because his diplomatic skills are questionable. Good team you do not need to go China when K K can do a better Job at a Cheaper travelling Costs

  22. Good job super ken on Tazara but extension is not welcome.
MCS please do something on the Muchinji line to give mother Zambia more outlets to the oceans to decongest the roads, reduce accidents and make them last long.
More has been said about that line and it has been appearing in the International railway journal.

  23. Why the hell join TAZARA to Angola? Mother Zambia, please open your eyes and think of having investments that will entirely be Zambian. I say so cause I have been on the Tanzanian side and I have come to understand that our counterparts have taken Tazara as their line, while the whole idea was conceived by the Zambian government to enable passage of goods in and out of Zambia. Zambian government think about this on a more serious note before taking a step otherwise you will add problems to already existing ones and regret but by then it will be too late.
